  • GPU not rendering output file at all, but mercury engine selected to work...?

    Hi There,
New proud owner of a PNY nVidia GTX 650 Ti, and after installing it Premiere gave me a "driver not supported" message.
I closed it, and edited the supported cards list, and restarted it. No error at all.
I made sure that the GPU rendering was selected, and tried to create a 720p youtube file using the same settings as my camera uses (29.97fps framerate, same resolution etc)
this file took a while to produce, and my CPU was 100% in use the entire time, both cores.
GPU-z showed a max 28% use but was rarely over 5%.
I restarted the render this time using software, and it gave me the SAME TIME TO RENDER.
So i am not using my GPU at all to render.
What am I doing wrong? Please help me out. I got this card because according to all over the entire internet, these are the best entry level cards.
So why support a 650m mobile i presume card, but not this one?
    thanks!

I will point out the document that John posted here, it clearly states that the CUDA cores are not for exporting.
Here is where my confusion from coming to a professional video editing suite come from:
    1. Powerdirector 11 literally went from taking 30-60 minutes to create and export an mp4 files to about three to six as soon as I put in the older HD 6570 card. It has terrible washed out colors, so after testing a 10 second clip via premiere pro i went with that.
    2. Sonyvegas is the same, just put in a video card that can actually use the GPU during the final exporting of a file and see a decrease in render time.
    3. the GPU is being used in premiere pro, i can see it going up/down during editing but not like the other applications. The other apps use about the same gpu/cpu ratio, they simply create the file much faster than premiere seems to.
powerdirector just seems to create the file much faster, whereas I am sure that PP produces a much better quality file.

  • Premiere cs5 mercury engine will it work without any graphic card?

HI there I have core 2quad 6600 processor of 2.4ghz, and intel classic series fb33 motherboard, with only onboard video ram shared with physical ram of 2gb.
I want to install cs5 on 64bit OS and upgrade total ram to 8 gb without buying any graphic cards(right now). Qn is will I be able to edit avchd videos? will the
mercury engine still be enabled? I know its kinda "no budget, want all qn" Right now I dont wanna buy a card as am plannin to buy new system later..
    Thanks
    Gigarigh

Yes, of course, you are correct, Harm.  I was over-simplifying.
I Took the OP's "enabled" to really mean "accelerated", and in that sense, it will not work as without the necessary graphics card there will be no acceleration.
I can certainly support your third paragraph, having just moved from a four-year-old system with a quad 3 GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM and a hacked 460 GTX graphics card, to a Sandy Bridge E system with a 3930 CPU, 32 GB of RAM but the same graphics card and HDD set up (for the moment). Your oft stated "molasses in winter" describes my old system pretty well from my present viewpoint!
The old system coped with the fairly gentle HDV, provided I kept the number of assets down, but threw a hissy fit if I tried 1920 HD, even with the Matrox (I know, I know!) I-frame codec.
    Gigarigh,
You would be better off upgrading along my path - motherboard and processor first, using as much as you can of your old system for now, as this allows much better scope for future upgrading.

  • Mercury Engine GPU bug/error/problem

    Hi there
Im experiencing a very strange phenomenon with the Mercury Engine in hardware mode. I recently upgraded my computer so I am running on new hardware. I ran Production Premium on my laptop and my older desktop, both working without problems.
My new configuration is a 2600k i7, 16gig Ram, GTX 570. The problem will be best described with screenshots:
The top image was taken in software mode. This is the correct result, displaying like it does on my laptop and old pc. The bottom pic shows the same frame in GPU acceleration mode.
    1. It looks like the Title texts' edge is shrunk by a pixel or so.
    2. The layer below the text, the strap, is an animated AE composition. It contains a drop shadow at 50%. In hardware mode it looks like its about 20%
    3. I have a 2 pixel 40% opacity black stroke applied to the strap. In hardware mode its almost completely invisible. I think the outline is shrunk as well.
To make it even wierder, if I click on the Title layer in the preview window in Premiere, ie, if I select it, it suddenly displays correctly. When I deselect it, its wrong. If I open the title editor, the text displays correctly. When I close the title editor, its wrong again in the playback window. The straps all display correctly when I work on them in AE.
This is forcing me to switch to software mode before I render, otherwise the rendered result is faulty. I'm 99% sure its a CUDA thing.
Im running the latest nvidia drivers. Any ideas?

Actually this is how hardware mode works. I know it's wierd but its due to what is called "Linear color/ light processing" Basically it will cause the issue your seeing. Hardware mode handles video this way. Currently you can't do anything about it, sadly. I always just have to make things darker to compensate. The reason it looks correct in titler is because the titler displays the still in software mode, or at least this is what I have noticed so I assumed this a long time ago.
Basically though if you export your video in software mode then check max render quality when you export it cause the same issue that having MPE+GPU enabled does.  That's because enabling max render quality causes even software mode to use 32-bit linear color processing. So most likely I think this is what is causing the issue you're seeing. You can verify it, by setting your sequence to software mode. Then exporting and checking max render quality when you export, then looking at the end result and you'll see the opacity differences.

  • MSI Z87-G65 adding PCIe cards, how will the GPU PCIe remain?

    Hi,
I'm about to to buy a MSI Z87-G65, but currently having issues with Realtek 1150, while its really much better than past sound cards, i have issues with drivers, since MSI also run the same sound card, i want to run a HT | OMEGA eClaro 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Express x1 Interface Sound Card and im also not too keen of the choice of MSI on the network card, i had issues on my GT70 on my lan and wifi, that has been worked out but i hate the Killer software/panel, this PC will also transfer a lot on gigabit so don't want to deal with poor performance, so im planning on a good trusty Intel EXPI9301CT Desktop Adapter Gigabit CT 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI-Express 1 x RJ45.
I know when you run SLI on PCIe 16x, the first goes to 8x and the second to 8x, when 3sli is ran it goes 8x4x4, but im using the layout like the following, wondering what speed will the first 16x PCIe slot will run with the configuration below, 16x or 8x or 4x?

You can't run nVidia graphics at 8x 4X 4X. Tri-SLI is not possible. Crossfire is though. Download the pdf English manual at an MSI Website. It gives all the information of the lane assignments.
To answer the question, if other PCI-E 16X33 slots are used other than the primary for graphics, the primary will indeed drop to 8X.

  • Will the EVGA GeForce GTX 760 SC work on my h8-1360t with Formosa motherboard?

perhaps a silly question but will the EVGA GeForce GTX 76 SC work on a FORMOSA motherboard?
    This question was solved.

    Sticknrudder, welcome to the forum.
Not a silly question at all.  It is difficult to know which video cards work in which computers these days.  I had to do a lot of research, including phone calls to EVGA and XFX'es Tech Support.
In this instance, the video card will not work in your computer.  All of the EVGA video cards from the GT 640 to present require a full UEFI BIOS in the motherboard.  HP didn't begin using a full UEFI BIOS until mid-October, 2012.  Your computer was released in July, 2011.
Also, most of the newer cards will require a power supply unit (PSU) upgrade.  Unless, that is, you chose the 460W or 600W PSU when you bought the computer.  Even the 460W may not have enough wattage for some of the cards.
MSI makes a video card with a hybrid VBIOS that has a switch to choose a Legacy or UEFI BIOS.  There is a video in the link that I provided just below the picture of the card.  Paul from Newegg does a good job of explining the card.  I suggest contacting their Tech Support to assure that it will work in your computer.  It is 9.84" in length.  I suggest making a template the size of the card to assure that it will fit into the space provided if they say that it will work.

  • Will the new IPad display PDFs quicker?

I use my IPad 1 to follow musical scores that I have downloaded (legally) in PDF. Some complex scores with a large number of instruments can take several seconds to refresh the screen after changing pages. I have compared this against an IPad 2 and it was slightly quicker but not enough to warrant an upgrade. The question is will the increased graphics power of the new IPad offer quicker page loading than an IPad 2 or is the page updating down to the CPU? If the latter the new IPad does not offer any advantages.

Ralph thanks for the reply. I tried Goddreader and it was faster but not fast enough.
From what I've read the iPad3 has a faster GPU but has the same processor so my question really revolves on whether the slow page update is caused by the page re-drawing which is more GPU dependent. I would have thought it was and so a new iPad may be worth a try.

  • Will the new iMac's be able to play encrypted HD content or not?...

    My first post!
I, like most people, am very impressed by the new iMac's, especially the 24" model. I would buy one today if it wasn't for one unanswered question: will the new iMac's be able to play encrypted HD content or not?...
    See the following text:
"Interestingly though, neither Apple nor Nvidia would comment on whether either of the graphics chip options for the 24-inch iMac come with HDCP support enabled, which would make the iMac a viable link in HD video's copy-protected chain. HDCP support is an option for those GPUs, which makes the fact that we couldn't get an answer intriguing."
This worries me. The screen resolution is sufficient for 1080p, but it seems that I may not be able to play encrypted HD content... An upgrade to the GPU at a later date seems difficult (impossible?) too...
    Any comments?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
This is new to me. Where have you heard HD Encrypted content will be provided from? You can buy an Elgato EyeTV Hybrid that will allow you to watch HDTV content (i.e. Freeview HD) when it comes out properly. I thought HDCP was aimed at preventing copying of content from a HD-DVD or Blu-ray disk (I may be mistaken) - and at £550 for the cheapest desktop size drives we are still a long way off seeing one of those drives in Apple's consumer line-up.
The iMac 24" is unique in that it does have a removable graphics card. Whether any replacements ever hit the market is yet to be seen.

  • Nvidia Geforce 670 and the Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration for Adobe Premiere Pro

Will Adobe test and certify the Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 for use with the mercury playback engine GPU acceleration feature of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 in the near future? Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks in advance for any help.

Adobe only certifies after extensive testing... For many others, with at least 1Gig of video ram, use the nVidia Hack http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629557 - which is a simple entry in a "supported cards" file - and Mac http://www.vidmuze.com/how-to-enable-gpu-cuda-in-adobe-cs6-for-mac/

  • Will the optional i7 dual-core do 4-core "hyperthreading"?

Will the i7 dual-core -- that's available as an option on the 2011 Mini -- utilize "hyperthreading" and look like a 4-core CPU to OS X ? That's one of the big advantages of a latest-edition i7 over an i5, and for some software it can mean quite a speedup, and well worth the extra bucks, if it works on the new Mini

John, thanks for your helpful insight. For reasons of portability (and ports!!!), I need to use the Mini for some heavy-duty but not cutting-edge things -- like running FCPro (7, eventually X when they get it together acceptably), Quark, PShop, etc. The need for speed is important, but portability is the big factor here, since this Mac will get moved to new locations at least once each day and must to be up and running quickly and reliably.
The Mini plus a big screen (27" Samsung) and everything else it needs to roar will fit into a slim, surprisingly light case. The Mini needs a nearby AC plug since it doesn't have a battery, but even that can be dealt with in rare circumstances. I have two good friends who are happily running Snow Leopard on their 2011 Minis with no problems, so I know that OS X 10.6 is a "go."
My main need is to get reasonable results out of Final Cut Pro and good results out of Photoshop. The 2011 Mini's small form factor, very high portability, its (optional) acceptably capable CPU and GPU, combined with the ability to run sizeable display screens and the easier (and fuller) port choices including Firewire and ThunderBolt external drives and access to my audio and video peripherals -- vs. the MacBook Pro's more limited choice of ports (the 17" Pro is not an option because size is a constraint, here) makes the Mini look interesting, even attractive!
Also, the built-in screen for the MacBook Pro is not much of an advantage for me; I would seldom use it.
This all leaves me thinking a heretical thought:  the new 2011 Mini, with Snow Leopard installed and 8 Gigs or (soon) 16 Gigs of RAM, looks like it could let me slip through the keyhole and have a howler if not a screamer -- if I accept a few compromises! I'd love to have the 4-core i7 and the Radeon graphics,  but, as you know, that combo isn't an available option in the Build-to-Order options for the Mini. The full-size Pro desktop box is totally unmanageable because of bulk and weight.
So, I said all of that to ask you:  can you add any thoughts or hot hints regarding what I just said -- downsides, upsides, etc.?? Anyone else?

    Hi there bananas321,
You may want to try force closing all open apps and resetting the device as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

  • When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder, what happens if I delete the photo in Iphoto ? Will the original file in the folder be deleted too?

When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder to iphoto, what happens if:
    1. I delete that photo in iphoto? will the original file in the folder be deleted too ?
    2.  when importing, does the hard disk store 2 versions of the photo, hence occupying additional space in the harddisk?

1 - no  --  iPhoto only manages fiel within the iPhoto library - it does not ever do anything with files outside the library
2 - No idea what you are asking - by default (and strongly recommended) iPhoto copies the original to the iPhoto library and you delete the source file outside the iPhoto library - iPhoto alwasy has at least two versions of every photo and some times three - it always have the original, a thumbnail and once a photo is modified a preview - this is not optional - if it is not what you want then iPhoto is not the correct progrtam to be using for phopto management
