Will the imac g5 drop in price?

will the imac g5 drop in price?
If so when and how much of a drop?
  Windows XP

Typically, Apple does not drop prices. It discontinues old models and introduces new ones. Now the switch to Intel is a little different since they are selling PPC and Intel Macs side-by-side.
I assume that they dropped the price after the successful introduction of the Intel iMacs. It helps Apple "prove" that the Core Duos are faster since they are more expensive - flawed logic, I know, but you know people believe it.
Look for the refurbs for the best deals. You get the benefit of a system that has the full factory warrantee, plus the option to buy AppleCare to extend that warrantee and suport to three full years.

  • HT4621 can the imac 27" mid 2011 take this ram "Corsair 8GB DDR31600MHz" ? will the imac under clock it to the 1333mhz ?

can the imac 27" mid 2011 take this ram "Corsair 8GB DDR31600MHz" ? will the imac under clock it to the 1333mhz ?

As the others have said, this is a really chancey thing to do...there have been several users on here during the past few weeks with questions about using out-of-spec ram...most had trouble with it.  Macs will sometimes accept higher spec memory, sometimes they will not.  Corsair has been getting some very good comments lately but that is from those using in-spec memory.
Best solution is the correct memory.  And as noonday recommended, Crucial and OWC are very good and stock the correct ram.

  • When will the iMac be updated to a new version?

My 2006 iMac is showing its age. When will a new version of the iMac be coming out?

No one here knows exactly when and even if they did, it would go against the ASC Terms of Use to say.
It is however OK to look at > Mac Buyer's Guide: Know When to Buy Your Mac, iPod or iPhone

  • Will the iMac G5 2.0Ghz accept a 750GB SATA 3.0 HD?

Considering upgrading the internal HD from 500GB to a 750GB disk. Of course the interface (SATA 3.0) is the same but I wanted to know if for some reason the iMac couldn't accept it?
    Thanks

Hey guys, your info is awesome. Thanks. I just got a Seagate 500GB SATAII (3.0, 300, etc.) and thanks to your replies I see why I am having some issues. But I have two questions:
1 - it sounds like my drive will automatically adjust to the 1.5 on the iMac board. Do I need to change the jumper settings? Or is this dealt with by the mac and the drive?
2 - what are the symptoms of SSC issues? I am just assuming my drive has that turned ON. I havent confirmed this yet. If it is on, am I screwed without connecting to a Windows machine to run the utility?
2b - if I do manage to turn OFF the SSC, does that do anything to the data on the drive before I turned it off?
Thanks so much for your insight.

  • Will the iMac support a usb 3.0 hub

I would like to get a 4 + port hub and thought I'd go ahead anf get the USB 3.0 but I'm not sure my MAC can handle it.  I have all 2.0 devices now but am thinking about the future.  I have the iMAC Quad Core i7.

Apple currently doesn't support USB 3.0 so there is no advantage to getting a USB 3.0 hub. However the hub should work but at 2.0 speeds.

  • Will the iMac recognise more than 2 mics?

    Hi guys,
I'm thinking about updating my mixer (which my Mac only recognises 2 mics with) for something else, like the Firewire etc.
Does anyone have any recomendations for a good, affordable mixer/interface that I could use 3 or 4 mics with (at the same time)?
    Hope everyone's well,
    Tony xxx

Ta Hang, that is a piece of kit!
If anyone is interested, while looking for the same solutions, i found a 4 channel pocket sized version!

    also 8 track usb mixer
    http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/flypage/product_id/5407
    ($200)
    or 8 track firewire mixer
    http://www.jbsmusic.co.uk/view/1051/
    ($300)
    (plus read on....)
    But I have anoher question....
As the iMac has a stero mic, and 3 usb sockets....
....Can you buy 3 usb mics, a stereo splitter and simultaneously record five audio channels?
That would give me just enough for bass, guitar, vox and 2 drums.....
or if i had a firewire 4 channel mixer, could that give me nine?
How many audio tracks CAN Garageband record at the same time?

  • Will the iMac Intel up Convert to 64Bit when running a 64bit app?

I am running Avid Media Composer 5.5.1 (Latest Version with 64 bit) on iMac 24" Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz with 512 VRAM.
    I have OSX 10.6.7.
I read somewhere that OSX Snow Leopard would convert itself to 64 bit when you run a 64 bit app.
    Where do I check that?
Or how do I up convert to 64 bit?
    Please reply back soon
    Thanks,

Never heard of that. A 32bit Application would run in 32bit mode, and a 64bit App would run as 64bit.
You can check the with the Activity Monitor (Applications -> Utilities) by looking for the entry "Kind" after the Application Name.
The system itself can be checked by
Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info... -> Software -> "64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No/Yes"
The iMac here works as an 32bit machine, but running Applications in 64bit.

  • Will the iMac G3's CRT work just as a CRT?

I notice there's an industry standard VGA plug between the CRT section of an iMac G3, and the logic board/hard drive section.
Could I tear out the logic board/hard drive section completely, and simply use the iMac as a CRT display and drive it with a VGA signal? Would the power supply be able to power the CRT alone, or would it freak out because of the missing CPU board?

It's one of the 5-color models with a tray.
Between the "logic board/module" and the rest of the iMac is a standard VGA connector. I assume it has standard VGA signals on it??? That's what I'm asking. I don't care about the G3 logic board since it is obsolete. I want the display to work. I want to drive it with another computer.
    Possibly a Mac Mini.

  • Will the iMac (Mid 2007) run OS X Server?

I'm wondering the the new Aluminum iMac (Mid 2007) will run 10.4 Server. I found the procedure in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305537 to upgrade from 10.4.10 Client but I want to verify that the newest machines are supported.

    Hi
Should add that I work for an Apple Specialist/AASP
    So do I.
I’m also aware of the link supplied by jaydisc. I think there may be a problem with installing OSX Server on the newest iMacs. I don’t base this on any inside knowledge, just a gut feeling. I’ve not heard anything decisive coming from Apple either officially or unofficially either. Hopefully someone out there has had a go already and may post something useful soon. Of course you could try it yourself and let us know. What’s the worse that could happen?

  • When will the imac 27" be released?

everytime i ring up asking i get told its not released yet?
is it out yet or does anyone have a date?
been a month now and dying to get my new imac into my house to play on!!

Apple's online store was updated on recently to reflect shipping times of between three and four weeks for new orders of its redesigned 27-inch iMacs. Previously, orders were advertised to ship "in January" — a change that was made last month to let customers know their orders would not ship before Christmas.
With three-and-a-half weeks left in the month of January, the change in estimated shipping times may not represent an outright delay, but the continued wait is yet another sign that Apple is unable to produce enough iMac units to meet customer demand.
Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook signaled in October that his company would face a "significant shortage" of iMacs in the December quarter. And analyst Ming-chi Kuo of KGI Securities said in August that the new screen lamination process used in building the new iMacs is particularly difficult with the larger 27-inch model.
Last week, Apple began offering its new hybrid Fusion Drive on entry-level 21.5-inch iMac orders. Previously, that option was limited to the 27-inch model and high-end versions of the 21.5-inch model.

  • Will the iMac recognize copyright?

Hello! I am planning to buy the Dazzle-Video Capture in order to transfer my home movies onto DVD. I was wondering whether the computer would prevent me from copying my other VHS to DVD? I know that I could not copy my mix CD's that were originally copied from copyrighted CDs. Will this occur with my VHS?
    Thanks for the notice!

You clearly realize that you're breaking the law by asking whether or not you can evade copyright protection, and that FBI warning applies to you whether you sell them or not.
I don't think he's 'breaking the law' by asking about what's possible, though it might go against Apple's terms of use for these forums. Additionally, though the original question wasn't very specific, it sounded to me like it was about format shifting, which is probably still being argued in the courts. Sure, the record and film industry would like you to buy a new copy of everything every time they change media types, like LP->CD, VHS->DVD, but they may not really be able to make that happen.
If I had a collection of paid-for VHS movies, (I don't), I'd certainly be interested in getting them onto something more durable.

  • For audio/video, is the iMac enough?  Or is MacPro the way to go?

I do most of my work in ProTools as a recording artist, but am starting to do video editing, specifically concerts with multiple HD cameras set up.  I will always be mainly working on the audio side, but I'd like to become proficient in video editing as well since it would help out in the studios I work with for various projects.  I'm not going to be making massive movies or anything, but i will be sifting through various camera angles of concerts to make promotional videos and the like.
Is a new iMac the way to go, or MacPro?
I'm leaning towards the iMac on account of price, though I'd likely top it up with all the bells and whistles... so it'll be likely close to the base price of the MacPros if not more.  Also, they'll be coming out with another iMac soon I hear, though nobody knows when.  So I'm ready to wait for the latest iMac.  Should I?
    Thanks!

I'm not that big on tweaking my computer so much... i only recently upgraded the RAM on my 2006 MacBookPro!  So while I can appreciate the value of customizing my computer, I doubt I'll be fiddling with it too much.
I suppose my question is, can the iMac do the job?  And are it's shortcomings such that I'd be foolish not to spend the extra couple thousand bucks and get a MacPro?  Is it worth the extra dough, for someone who won't be regularly upgrading this and that?  And should I wait for the supposedly upcoming new iMac?
Sorry, I should have said questions up there.
