Will the iMac support a usb 3.0 hub

I would like to get a 4 + port hub and thought I'd go ahead anf get the USB 3.0 but I'm not sure my MAC can handle it.  I have all 2.0 devices now but am thinking about the future.  I have the iMAC Quad Core i7.

Apple currently doesn't support USB 3.0 so there is no advantage to getting a USB 3.0 hub. However the hub should work but at 2.0 speeds.

  • Does the iMac support a USB-5.1 sound card?

I have a new Intel iMac connected though USB to a "Sound Blaster Live 24 bit" sound card connected via mini-jacks to a logitech 5400, but I am not getting 5.1.
In the Audio MIDI pref pane, I can only select "multichannel," not "5.1".
Is there any way to fix this? If not, I need an optical to mini jack... any idea if there is such a thing?
    Matthew

    Hi Matthew,
I don't know about the SBlive 24bit device.
However, the Intel iMac's all have built in 5.1 optical output from the normal headphone jack (it is optical and electrical). There exist TOSLink to 3.5mm optical cables, and some can even be converted to either.
There are also some optical to coax SPDIF converters available if your speakers only take SPDIF coax and not SPDIF optical.

  • Can the iMac G5 supports TWO USB 7-port Hubs??

Hi all, call me greedy but belive it or not, I am running out of USB ports!!
I have a Belkin 7-port USB 2.0 Powered Hub (with 2 ports pointing upbright) which serves me very well, but I am running out of ports, now that I am considering getting the new iPod nano.
Anyway, there are 3 ports behind the screen, now I have my Mighty Mouse, the Hub's USB cable and a HK Soundsticks attached.
I am thinking of getting another similar 7-port Hub, they are actually stackable, but of course I won't use all 7 ports fully on the 2nd new one.
Can the iMac supports and substain 2 USB hubs?? I have actually never seen anyone with more than 1 hub??
    Thanks and cheers

I have two USB hubs attached to my iMac G5 - they are both self-powered (their own power supply); one is a USB 2 with 6 ports and a multi card reader built in and the other my old USB 1 with 4 ports. They are plugged into the rear of my iMac along with the printer. Everything else, including keyboard and mouse, are plugged into the hubs and I am using a total of 8 ports - and everything works. I don't know if that would change if they weren't self powered.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT4621 can the imac 27" mid 2011 take this ram "Corsair 8GB DDR31600MHz" ? will the imac under clock it to the 1333mhz ?

can the imac 27" mid 2011 take this ram "Corsair 8GB DDR31600MHz" ? will the imac under clock it to the 1333mhz ?

As the others have said, this is a really chancey thing to do...there have been several users on here during the past few weeks with questions about using out-of-spec ram...most had trouble with it.  Macs will sometimes accept higher spec memory, sometimes they will not.  Corsair has been getting some very good comments lately but that is from those using in-spec memory.
Best solution is the correct memory.  And as noonday recommended, Crucial and OWC are very good and stock the correct ram.

  • Will the imac g5 drop in price?

will the imac g5 drop in price?
If so when and how much of a drop?
      Windows XP

Typically, Apple does not drop prices. It discontinues old models and introduces new ones. Now the switch to Intel is a little different since they are selling PPC and Intel Macs side-by-side.
I assume that they dropped the price after the successful introduction of the Intel iMacs. It helps Apple "prove" that the Core Duos are faster since they are more expensive - flawed logic, I know, but you know people believe it.
Look for the refurbs for the best deals. You get the benefit of a system that has the full factory warrantee, plus the option to buy AppleCare to extend that warrantee and suport to three full years.

  • When will the bluetooth support audio alerts for email and text messages?

When will the bluetooth support audio alerts for email and text messages? It works when I get a phone call, but I'd like it to work when getting a text message (I do this a lot in noisier areas and would rather not have to look at the phone every few minutes)
Or is there a configuration option I'm missing?

  • Do the Imac support Corel graphics software?  Or does Apple make its own graphics software?

Does the Apple Imac support Corel Draw for graphics design?  Or does Apple provide its own graphics software package when making an Imac purchase?

There are thousands of graphics apps available for OS X. A very quick look on Corel's web site showed Corel Draw is not available for OS X, probably another reason Corel is in sad financial shape. Apple does not include any graphics creation software when you buy an iMac what is included is OS X and the iLife suite of products.
If you are interested in a substitute for Corel Draw then I'd recommend using Google to search for OS X alternatives, I'm sure you will not have a problem finding many suitable alternatives.

  • Will the TC support XBOX Live?

I am looking into purchasing the Time Capsule, but am curious if I will have to keep my existing router in order to support XBOX Live. Endstate I will have the IMac, (2) I Phones, (2) I-Pads, (2) XBOX's- WIFI, and a Wireless Printer. Can the TC support them all with a direct connection to my modem without using an additional router? Thanks for the help.

Xbox depends on upnp which is not used by Apple in the TC. You can manually port forward the required ports.. but you will have issues with 2xXbox.. if you want both to work on internet at the same time.. this requires a router that is vista upnp compatible as the ports cannot be used twice (ie you cannot forward the same port to two different IP addresses). upnp is designed to sort that out, but even then many routers do not work properly.
So as Bob suggested you may be forced to use the TC in bridge and keep using your existing router. Or even purchase a different modem/router to allow for full xbox access. This should be sorted out by IPv6 btw, when all the devices on the network can get a fully networked address instead of hidden behind a NAT.

  • Will new iMac support an additional Thunderbolt 27" display?

I'm thinking about getting a new iMac 27", but would like to have dual monitors.  Will the new iMac support an additional 27" Thunderbolt monitor?

The additional TBD is thinner and a different hight. I believe the stand alone display will reflect more background light and look different than the iMac.
I am weighting for the stand alone displays to match the 27' iMac in both height and reflectiveness

  • Does the imac support blu ray playback

    ????

The iMac along with other Mac do not support bluray playback....THAT BEING SAID,
You can play Bluray on the mac using an external bluray player and a piece of software known as Mac Blu-Ray Player.
I have it running on my MacBook Pro. I also do Blu-ray Authoring so I have a 12x BluRay drive in a OWC case.

  • When will the RAW support for Nikon DF be release?

Anyone know when they will release the RAW support for Nikon DF?

Anyone who knows that, would not be allowed to post this information here. Only the Apple developers could tell you, and they never announce this kind of information in advance, sorry.

  • When will the iMac be updated to a new version?

My 2006 iMac is showing its age. When will a new version of the iMac be coming out?

No one here knows exactly when and even if they did, it would go against the ASC Terms of Use to say.
It is however OK to look at > Mac Buyer's Guide: Know When to Buy Your Mac, iPod or iPhone

  • Will the iMac recognise more than 2 mics?

    Hi guys,
I'm thinking about updating my mixer (which my Mac only recognises 2 mics with) for something else, like the Firewire etc.
Does anyone have any recomendations for a good, affordable mixer/interface that I could use 3 or 4 mics with (at the same time)?
    Hope everyone's well,
    Tony xxx

Ta Hang, that is a piece of kit!
If anyone is interested, while looking for the same solutions, i found a 4 channel pocket sized version!
    http://www.amazon.com/Presonus-INSPIRE-1394/dp/B000BQN8I4/ref=sr11/103-1484173-6052643?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1179299293&sr=1-1
    also 8 track usb mixer
    http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/flypage/product_id/5407
    ($200)
    or 8 track firewire mixer
    http://www.jbsmusic.co.uk/view/1051/
    ($300)
    (plus read on....)
    But I have anoher question....
As the iMac has a stero mic, and 3 usb sockets....
....Can you buy 3 usb mics, a stereo splitter and simultaneously record five audio channels?
That would give me just enough for bass, guitar, vox and 2 drums.....
or if i had a firewire 4 channel mixer, could that give me nine?
How many audio tracks CAN Garageband record at the same time?

  • Will the iMac G5 2.0Ghz accept a 750GB SATA 3.0 HD?

Considering upgrading the internal HD from 500GB to a 750GB disk. Of course the interface (SATA 3.0) is the same but I wanted to know if for some reason the iMac couldn't accept it?
    Thanks

Hey guys, your info is awesome. Thanks. I just got a Seagate 500GB SATAII (3.0, 300, etc.) and thanks to your replies I see why I am having some issues. But I have two questions:
1 - it sounds like my drive will automatically adjust to the 1.5 on the iMac board. Do I need to change the jumper settings? Or is this dealt with by the mac and the drive?
2 - what are the symptoms of SSC issues? I am just assuming my drive has that turned ON. I havent confirmed this yet. If it is on, am I screwed without connecting to a Windows machine to run the utility?
2b - if I do manage to turn OFF the SSC, does that do anything to the data on the drive before I turned it off?
Thanks so much for your insight.

  • NAC and OSX 10.7 Lion - when will the agent support it?

OSX 10.7 aka Lion was release on July 21st.  Cisco NAC Agent does not support it.  When will it be supported and under what version?

We are using 4.8.0 CAM/CAS and these versions
    Current Windows NAC Agent Version:
    4.8.2.1
    Current Macintosh Clean Access Agent:
    4.8.2.590
Current Cisco NAC Web Agent Version:
    4.8.1.4
    Current Windows Compliance Module Version:
    3.4.21.1
I want to believe you about 4.8.2 supportin OSX Lion but I can't find any documentation on Cisco's site stating that.  The compatibility matrix only goes upto Snow Leopard 10.6
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/nac/appliance/support_guide/agntsprt.html#wp68131 - can you show me where that is documented?
