When it's released you will be able to install iOS 6 on your iPad 3 and you will get Siri : http://www.apple.com/ios/ios6/siri/ (though the features that you get might depend upon which country that you are in - see the bottom of that page)

    That is strange, sheltonrt.
    What kind of an error?

The fingerprint scanner will be a function of new hardware.

  • Will the current gen iMacs be enough, or should I wait?

    Hello,
My Mom wants to get a new computer, and she's been eyeing the iMac for sometime now. Since we're buying a MacBook for college, I thought I'd buy my Mom an iMac.
Personally, I would wait, because I want the lastest and greastest in my computer, but I'm not sure if my mom is the same way. She only goes on the computer once in a while to check Facebook, Youtube and do her banking. She is also big on music, so she'll most likely want to play it on her iMac.
My question is: Will the current gen iMac be good enough to last a minimum 5 years?
My mom will be doing the following:
    YouTube (HD video streaming)
    Facebook
    Online Banking
    Music downloads (legally of course)
And Music streaming (Playing it on her iMac, so she can hear it in the living room, kitchener, where ever she is)
And she will be putting music on her MP3 player, which is a Coby 8GB I believe
    These are her requirments:
She will not spend any money on repairs for atleast 3 years. It must stand up to everything the dust can throw at it.
She needs it to be quick. Her current laptop (HP Pavilion 17 Inch) actually takes 15 mintues to open a simple email client! She wants a machine that will be quick today, and quick tomorrow, and the next day until I buy her a new computer (more then likely in 2015 when my schooling is finished).
She needs it to have good speakers! She judges the quality of the computer by the speakers.
I want to tell her to wait until October for the new iMacs, but I can't! I know she won't buy the new ones because they won't be discounted $100! (I get $100 off every computer as a student in Future Shop). She will buy one now, because she's already buying my Macbook and my sister's PC, so shes motovated to fork over another $1099 because she knows she needs a new computer, but if she waits, the motovation will be gone!
Will the current gen base model iMac be able to handle her needs?
    Thank you

Your asking a tall order for people to give you a recommendation.
    Here's my take.
The baseline iMac, from a computing standpoint will meet your mother's needs.
My advice, you'll need to install more than the baseline 4 GBs of RAM.
Plan on spending extra to buy third party RAM. Install, at least another 4 GBs of RAM for a total of 8 GBs.
The current OS X version will run better and run additional applications better with more RAM added after purchase.
Purchase this RAM from either of these two sources.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac
    OR
    http://www.crucial.com
With this addiitional RAM installed, you'll already be ready when newer OS X updates happen.
The iMac's internal speakers were never the greatest.
They are a little better than laptop speakers, but not by much.
Judging the quality of a computer by its speakers is like judging the quality of a car by its hubcaps.
Tell your Mom that Macs are not PCs. There are a lot less issues with Macs than with Windows PCs.
Macs are more than the some of their individual components. And Apple Macs have much better computer components that what is found in a typical PC.
I doubt they will be strong enough, by themselves to play and hear music from all over the home.
My advice, by a seperate set of powered external speakers that an be plugged into the iMac, or by a portable speaker system that works over wireless Bluetooth/AirPlay that can be easily moved from room to room or is big or strong/loud enough to be put in a central location in your house so that your iMac can stay where it is and transmit signals to a wireless speaker system that is able to play music louder from around the home.

  • Will the current plugins for Sigma DP1/2 RAW files work with files from the DP1/2 Merrill cameras? A

Will the current plugins for Sigma DP1/2 RAW files work with files from the DP1/2 Merrill cameras? And if not, is Adobe developing plugins for these cameras?

Not sure what plugins you mean, Hornet - Lr doesn't rely on plugins to read new cameras.
If you mean the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plugin - that's for Photoshop, not Lightroom. Lr has the same functionality as ACR, but it's hard-coded into the program, so if you're looking for support for a new camera, you need to wait for a new version of Lr.
And nobody here can say when Lr support for a given camera will happen.
Hopefully someone with a Merrill will be able to chime in about whether its files work with the current Lr.

  • Will the current iMac with two Thunderbolt ports support up to 12 devices (6 per port) or just 6 total?

Will the current iMac with two Thunderbolt ports support up to 12 devices (6 per port) or just 6 total?

If will handle 7 devices total, you will use one thunderbolt port as an upstream and the other as a downstream.

  • Will an ipad air with cellular purchased in the USA work in the UK?

If I buy an iPad air with cellular whilst on vacation in the USA will I be able to use a UK cellular provider when back in the UK?

This is tagged as answer but it's confusing me.
From experience, Apple will honour warranty regardless where you purchased the item. As long it has warranty life and the purchase was legit and registered.
Why would u say iPad with US cellular would not be covered abroad? Is it because the cellular provider initially selected during the purchase?
I'm seeing contradicting answers in this thread and you did not bother to explain your answer so I feel confused at the moment.
Another important question, you said it will never connect to 4G and LTE... Why do you make such claim? I have checked the LTE range from iPad specs section and LTE wiki page for UK..it seams that the US iPad does cover the LTE range of the UK. Not sure about other connection types though.
So please do explain your answer.

  • Will the current iPad 2 upgrade to iOS 5?

Hi, I wanted to know if the current version of iPad 2 will be upgraded to the iOS 5 (scheduled for release this fall)?
SHould I buy the iPad 2 right now or wait for the iOS 5 to hit the market?

If you mean how do you get iOS 5 then you need to wait until it's available, which will be sometime in the Autumn. If you enter your email address on this page then you will be notified when it's available : http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/notify-me/
When it is out you'll be able to update to it by connecting your iPad to your computer's iTunes and clicking the Check For Updates button on the Summary tab.

  • Starcraft 2: Will the current Mac Mini run it?

hi all, i'm going to be picking up a Mac Mini in a couple days and wanted to know if starcraft 2 would run on it. i did a lot of searching it seems that all the posts were from 2011 and 2010 and a lot of them were running SC2 in Windows on the mac mini. i want to run the Mac Mini in OSX and i heard it doesn't run quite as well as it does in Windows and blizzard aren't great with fixing bugs in the Mac version. i'll be buying the current low end mac mini, i can get more RAM on it and i believe the CPU is more than enough, but the graphics card does worry me. i don't want to play on high settings, i just want to get great performance even if it runs on the lowest detail settings.
    thanks

    anyone?

  • HT4972 I need to update my iPad 1 to ioS5 how do I get this update?

How do I update my iPad 1 to ioS5 or later?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

They show up in my iTunes on my computer, but they're absent from my 'purchases' in the iTunes store. This angers me greatly. I do not want to buy them again, that's ridiculous. How do I get them to show up again on my iPod?? Thanks in advance.
Oh wait nevermind I got it. Carry on.

    - Do you have to right boxes checked in the Tones pane of iTunes for the iPod to get them synced to the iPod:
    - Were the tones purchased with the same account as all the other media on the iPod?

  • Will the current Apple TV play files from a UpNP/DLAN equipped NAS unit?

Even if it will, I know to expect it to only play Apple-blessed formats, but I cannot find any info as to whether it will play from a UpNP or DLNA device such as a NAS.  I know it will play from an open iTunes application, but that requires a computer to be turned on and that is not really an option in this case.  I do have a NAS unit that would be great for it to read from.

i recently moved my iTunes library to a NAS from a directly attached firewire 800 drive. Apple TV works just the same.
i'm using FileBrowser on my iPad to access the files stored on the NAS when my Mac is shut down. once a movies starts playing, i can select my Apple TV via AirPlay and continue to watch the movie there.
i haven't experimented with non-iTunes friendly formats (.mkv etc.) but the developers say:
FileBrowser supports all the formats that the iPad natively plays, and for other file formats the "Open In" feature can pass files such as AVI to apps like CineXPlayer.
