Will the newest version of Safari Mavericks work properly with Snow Leopard?

Are you asking if you can install Mavericks on a machine running Snow Leopard?
Upgrade to Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
Application Compatibility
You can also check which applications are PowerPC by going to the  menu, select About this Mac, click on More info…, then click System Report and select Software/Applications.
If you do decide to upgrade, make sure you do a backup before installing.

  • IWork is all white and doesn't work properly with Snow Leopard

Whenever I open Pages or Numbers 09, everything is displayed as white. The text colour is black but I can't see the blinking text mouse icon (which looks like I). I can open templates and can only see the text when I highlight it otherwise the screen is white and I cant even type in a blank document. It all worked fine until I installed Snow Leopard.
I had similar problems with iMovie and iDVD 09 with transparencies not working. Could this be a problem with the graphics driver for my Nvidia 8800 GT? Or is there another way to fix it?

    Apple's instructions are:
*Transferring files from one account to another on the same Mac*
*You can use your Shared folder:*
    1) Log in to the account you wish to copy files from.
    2) In the Finder, navigate to the Shared folder. It is located in the Users folder.
Copy any files or folders you wish to the Shared folder, such as items on your desktop, in your Documents folder, in your Music folder, and so forth. You may be asked to enter an administrator password when copying certain items. Note: To ensure that you copy items (as opposed to moving items), hold the Option key as you drag files to the Shared folder. Depending on item permissions, some files or folders will copy by default, some may move by default.
    3) Log out of the current account.
    4) Log in to the new account (that you are transferring files to).
    5) In the Finder, navigate to the Shared folder. It is located in the Users folder.
Copy any files or folders you wish from the Shared folder to the desired locations, such as desktop, Documents folder, Music folder, and so forth. You may be asked to enter an administrator password when copying certain items.
And I'll add an additional step and a warning:
    6) Having copied the files to the new account, Get Info, and change the ownership of them to your new account name. The easiest way to do this is to select each folder inside the user folder (ie Documents, Pictures etc). These should have the permission set properly to the new account owner. Click on the gear icon and select Apply to Enclosed Items
    The Warning
It is safe to copy the contents of your Documents, Pictures, Music, Movies and Sites folders but since the problem is likely to be inside the user Library folder it isn't a good idea to copy it. You can probably safely copy your Safari bookmarks (not the entire Safari folder), Calendars, and Mail (but open the folder and delete the Bundles folder inside because it contains Mail plug-ins which might be the problem). I'd be very leery of copying any more than this since doing so might copy the problem into the new user folder. I often copy a one or two items from the Library folder at a time, restart, and then if all seems okay, copy a couple more. But I never copy the Preferences which means re-serializing a lot of programs and one or two programs might need to be reinstalled. The Applications Support folder is another one that may not be safe to copy over, but then again may be. It is one that I move into my new Library folder a couple folders at a time.
In short, moving items into the new account via the Public folder is, itself quite easy though you do need to be sure to that the ownership gets changed to the new account. As I said, the data is easy and safe. The Library is where the problems tend to be.
Incidentally it might seem easier to keep the old account and just moving the user Library elsewhere since that's where the problem is living. I've found that it isn't such a good idea for a number of reasons. Copying to the new account may be more time consuming but safer and in the long run better.

  • IBM Infoprint 1145 not working properly with Snow Leopard 10.6.4 (Network)

Since the last OS update to 10.6.4, IBM Infoprint 1145 printer doesn't work properly. We have the printer working as a network printer with all the protocols enabled and now it takes almost 5 minutes to print a page.
No problem with the rest of network printers.
I have reinstalled the drivers again and it behaves the same.
With 10.6.3 and older versions the printer worked perfectly.
    Any ideas?

Solved... The problem was due to the use of an external DNS. Using the DNS servers of my organization within the network configuration solved the issue.

How do I download the newest version of Safari software?

If what you indicated is correct, you are using Mac OS X 10.7.5, so the most recent Safari version for Lion is Safari 6.
Safari 6.1 is available for OS X Mountain Lion, and Safari 7 is only available for OS X Mavericks, so if you want to upgrade Safari, you will have to upgrade OS X. See > http://www.apple.com/osx

Hello, elizl1597,  You are going to want to open the safari app, bring your cursor to the top of the screen to make the menu bar appear, then go over to history.  After you click on history on the menu bar, you are going to want to go to the bottom of the dropdown to where it says clear history.  Once you click clear history, your history on the safari app should be cleared.
This theory should work on all versions of an Apple Mac.
When you hit clear history, you won't be able to undo this action.

Downloaded Safari 6.0.4 and my software is not up to date to run it. I can not get the old version of Safari to work again.

Open  > About this Mac, and tell us what OS X version you have. If it's 10.8, reinstall OS X 10.8.3 > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1640
If, after reinstalling the update, you still can't use Safari, hold Command and R keys while your computer is starting and reinstall Lion or Mountain Lion

  • I uploaded the newest version and itunes stopped working!

I uploaded the newest version and itunes stopped working!  This on my windows computer at home, can anyone help?  Sorry,  by not working I mean I click on the icon and itunes starts up - shows me the library screen with all my music on it, says accessing account and then pops up a message saying it has encountered a problem and needs to close.  When I say ok, it closes and goes away!

This is CoconutDonuts solution and it worked for me

Just fixed this issue for iTunes for Windows with minimal damage, try:
    1. Browse to "C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming" in Windows Explorer.
    2. Rename the "Apple Computer" folder to "Apple Computer-old".
    3. Start iTunes
    4. Close iTunes
    5. Copy the file "iTunesPrefs.xml" from "C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer-old\iTunes"
    6. Paste the old "iTunesPrefs.xml" into the new "Apple Computer\iTunes" folder iTunes just created (not the one you renamed) under "C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer-old\iTunes"
    7. Overwrite the new iTunesPrefs.xml with your old copy of the file.
If you don't care about losing your iTunes preferences then you can just do step 2. You can always go back and grab things from the old folder later if you realize you wanted to have your EQ settings, individual track gains, etc...
    THIS WORKED FOR ME

I have a MacBook White, early 2009 model, just downloaded/installed OS X Lion.  Everything worked well with Snow Leopard - Mathematica, pogo.com games. Now, with Lion, I am getting a box that states I need J/Link, and/or java runtime.  Software update feature states all software is up to date.  Help.

What about the incredable lag time from clicking on a program to the time it opens (or the time till the loading screen starts)? I wish I could record it and play it so I could see if thats normal from other members... the icon just sitting there for over 35 second (I just counted 36 till the loading screen popped up) at first I thought it was me not clicking hard enought cuz the mouse button I have is real stiff (any ideas on that?) but no it takes that long just to get to the app loading screen... this happens every time same amount of time with the 3 programs I use the most, prolly more but I know for a fact world of warcraft, uTorrent, and Google Chrome. I would just chalk it up to slow hardware but they load real quick in windows 7 and once this bad spot is loaded the program runs so fast and nice afterword. Maybe some tweeks? I wonder if this would happen in Snow?
The coment "few outdated programs" Ive seen alot its not just a few its a lot and since games are not Apple's strong point I would think they would want to keep as many as they could...
An example of the rants you will see from a lot here. Don't be put off as these problems are generally user specific, and these same old comments come out after the release of every OSX I can remember. When Lion is upgraded  to the next OSX you can gaurentee these forums will be full of people screaming about how great Lion was. Happened with Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard.
So come to think of it you may be better off Googling sites that give you unbiased views on Lion, rather than expect any positive comments here. For every one complaint there are probably 100,000 people with no issues.
    Cheers

  • Please help Apple??? It worked fine with Snow Leopard??

I recently upgraded to Lion and now cant see my Windows 7 laptop in network? Or see my macbook Air 2010 on my win7 laptop. Please help Apple??? It worked fine with Snow Leopard??

You're not addressing Apple here, you are addressing a user based community.  An Apple employee may read your post but he/she will not officially respond to it.
You didn't say if your networking is Wi-Fi or USB Dongle based so I'm assuming Wi-Fi in this response. If you do a search of the forums you will find that quite a few are having Wi-Fi issues with Lion--things that worked fine with Snow Leopard are flakey or don't work at all with Lion so your problem may be another instance of the Wi-Fi issues in Lion.  If not, then perhaps someone with knowledge of your specific issue will post.  I see my other Macs (MBP, 24" iMac, 27" iMac all running Lion) fine but I don't have a PC to test.

  • HT201250 My 10.7.3 Time Machine won't work with external disks. Worked fine with Snow Leopard, and even Lion 10.7.1

My 10.7.3 Time Machine won't work with external disks. Worked fine with Snow Leopard, and even Lion 10.7.1
I have tried everything, even buy new external disk from different manufacture.
If I cant get a fix soon, I am downgrading back to SnowL.

Still no luck. I tried all the tricks, reconfiguring TM (remove selected disk option, and re-setting it, and trying different disks). Tried new combo updater, and the newer TM update after that. Tired two different disks too (one is my older firewire WD MyBook 1TB, and my brand new 3tb Seagate GoFlex USB... either one plugged into back of computer - no intermediary devices). I did get the TM buddy wiget and it produced the following log, from the last attempt, where I setup lots of exclusions so that backup quantity was small (under 10gb). Still it failed to complete. Here is that log, for what it is worth:
    Starting standard backup
    Backing up to: /Volumes/TM-Disk/Backups.backupdb
9.56 GB required (including padding), 911.15 GB available
Waiting for index to be ready (101)
Copied 0 files (0 bytes) from volume Mac HD.
    Backup canceled.
To prove a point, I will take these disks are run them on my other Tiger and Snow Leopard laptops to prove TM works fine on those with these disks. But I fear the only options are to either have my tech re-install LION... or just have him reinstall SL instead. Im at wits end.

Mac OS X Lion has dropped support for Rosetta, the feature that allowed you to run PowerPC apps on previous OS X systems. Check if you can find a newer version of the app you are trying to run that supports Intel processors.
What application are you trying to run? Maybe I can help you find a version that runs on Lion.

  • FF 3.15 worked perfect with Snow Leopard. But everything after that, till FF 8, crashes left and right. On Facebook. And on ALL different language websites. Should I stop using FF? Heard Chrome is good.

[Edit: It should be FF 3.5. I mistyped FF 3.15]
I have MAC OSX Snow Leopard. 10.6.8.
FF 3.5 [apologies; I mistyped 3.15] worked perfect with Snow Leopard. NO problems.
But '''everything''' after that, till FF 8, crashes left and right.
Facebook crashes the most within few short seconds.
And NO different language websites even open.
