Will the Nikon D7000 make it into 3.3???

Any word on the D7000 support?
Hoping to shoot tethered with the D7000 soon (along with Nikon Camera Control Pro 2) but I understand BETA LR3.3 still doesn't include the D7000???

I have recently purchased the Nikon D7000 and was excited to see its new support in Lightroom 3.3 RC, but unfortunately, It still will not recognize the camera when trying to shoot tethered. Neither in LR or in Camera Control Pro. I am really disappointed and hope that this issue will be resolved with the final release.
If you have ever been able to shoot tethered with the D7000 in Lightroom or Camera Control Pro, please let me know how you figured it out.
Thanks!

How do I best integrate existing laptops for a new server?  Can I use the existing home folders on the laptops and make them into Network Users?

Yes it will work.  I've done it for a few users in my small office.  As with anything, there are quirks that you may or may not experience.  Most quirks are app-related, due to app developers hard-coding absolute paths into their apps for things like temp files (Photoshop).  Strategies for resolving these sorts of quirks can be found via google.  You would probably have seen these quirks already when using server-based home folders for your kids.  If you haven't noticed them, then you're probably fine.
The tech note you cited should be fine.  It doesn't explicitly say so, but you'll need to enable ssh on your server, at least temporarily, so you can upload your home folder to the server using scp, rsync, etc.  Don't try to copy the files up to the server via Finder.
Once all your files are transferred to the server and in the right place, make sure to chown them on the server, so they are owned by the userID you created for yourself on the server.
As with anything this involved, make a good backup of your laptop first.
Note I have one user that isn't too happy with the responsiveness of the periodic mobile home syncing.  She has about a decade of e-mail in her home folder, probably 50 to 100 emails per day, many with attachments.  Mobile home syncing takes a long time to check and sync this huge tree of itty-bitty files, eevn with server-side file tracking turned on.  The other users are happy.
The nice thing about mobile home syncing is that when a user "graduates" to an age where they've earned their own laptop, you can change them from a server home user to a mobile home user, with a minimum of fuss.  Also, if you lose or break a laptop, you can add a new replacement laptop to your network, and pull-down a replica of the home folder from the server, with almost no downtime.

  • When will the Nikon D810 raw files be able to import into lightroom please?

When will there be an update for Lightroom so I can use raw files from a Nikon D810?

The camera was just released for sale a week or so, ago, and the current LR 5.5 is older than that, so how would Adobe be able to support a camera that wasn't available, yet, unless they had a pre-release copy, several months in advance, in time for including in LR 5.5
Adobe Labs - http://labs.adobe.com has recently published a release candidate of the PS Plug-in ACR 8.6 RC that lists support for the D810.  There is a download for PS-CS6 and another for PS-CC/2014.
For Lightroom users, you can use the DNG Converter 8.6 RC available in the CS6 download set for ACR 8.6 RC.
Because this is pre-release software, keep in mind that something in the support for the D810 could change before final release, and thus your images might look slightly different.
There is one known issue with the D810 support in the ACR 8.5 RC release, and that is it doesn't know how to process the new 9 megapixel Small Raw format, but Adobe has said the final release, will.
I'd expect a final release within 4-6 weeks if it is the same as those in the past.

  • How can I import Nikon D7000 NEF files into Elements 9 on MAC Book Air ?

I have downloaded the DNG 6.5 converter as suggested, but the NEF files appear in Elements 9 as blank grey boxes.  These NEF files open in the same Elements 9 on my PC with Windows 7.

Thank you for your reply.  I have tried the update as suggested.   A complete failure.
Rebooted the computer many times and each attempt says that the update failed.
Checked my registration for multiple computers  -  all okay.
    This is completely frustrating...

  • Opening Nikon D7000 raw files in Elements 8

I am unable to open Nikon D7000 NEF files in Elements 8. I have been unsuccessfull in downloading the version 5.7 update from the web site. After downloading several times the files are still not recognized in Elements 8.

I am using Windows 7. I tried selecting the folder that contained the folder holding the pictures to be converted. I then single-clicked the folder holding the pictures and hit select. A message came up stating that the source folder did not contain any supported camera raw files.I have spoken with my Elements software supplier and this is his response:
"I've done some digging and it turns out the Nikon D7000 wasn't supported in elements until the release of version 6.4 Adobe Camera Reader. So to make sure you have the latest ACR update installed. You can check which one you have by going into elements and clicking Help>About Plug-In>Camera Raw. And if it's not 6.7 then Help>Updates will find it and let you install the latest version. You could also try saving your camera files as .RAW instead of .NEF, and then opening them in elements. Adobe lightroom 4 should already have these plugins available right outside the box, but if you can save the money and run updates instead that would work just fine." I have checked for Elements updates for the Camera Raw plug-in and the message appears stating no updates are available. The camer raw plug-in version is currently 6.1.0.250.

What operating system are you using?
The most common cause is pointing the dng converter to the actual files and not just to the folder that the camera raw files are in.
There is an example of how on a windows system in this thread:

  • Nikon D7000 .NEF files are not opening

I am a new, lucky owner of the Nikon D7000 but, sadly, am unable to open my RAW (.NEF) files in iPhoto -- I am told that the files are an "Unreadable" format.
Now, while I may use the Nikon software provided, I would much rather use iPhoto for my editing.
Is there anything I might be able to do -- drivers, codecs (?) -- to get this opening?

I'm in the same boat here. What I've done so far is to use Adobe DNG Converter (free) to convert the NEF to DNG. Then drag the folder with the DNG files into iPhoto.
With another batch of files I converted to DNG, then did the sorting and editing in Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw. Then converted the whole bunch to jpg and imported them into iPhoto. I also imported only the highest rated DNG images. (Note that any Camera Raw processing will not be used by iPhoto, but it remains in the DNG file)

  • Does Elements 9 Support  New Nikon D7000?

Any News on whether the new Elements 9 software will support the new Nikon D7000?.  I see where it does support Nikon's NEF Raw Format but can find nothing about Supporting the Nikon D7000 due to be released to stores the middle of October.

    Help!
I have the new Nikon D7000 and don't want to have to use the Adobe DNG Converter program for every RAW ("NEF") file I shoot.
Q1:  If I buy Adobe PSElements9, and I download the 6.3 Camera Raw plug-in, will I be able to open PSEditor and, using the "Open As" choice on the file menu of the PSEditor, go directly to Camera Raw mode? Or, will I continue to be required to use this more recent CR plug-in-- 6.3-- outside of PSE, then re-open the converted files in Editor?
Q2:  Does PSE10 exist, and, if so, has it addressed this Nikon d7000- camera raw compatibiltity issue?
TIA a quick reply.  I'm going crazy here!

  • CS-4 Camera Raw for Nikon D7000

Using the Help -> Update my CS-4 saya there are no updates available at this time.  However, Photoshop and Bridge cannot show images for the Nikon D7000 or the Nikon D3100.  The latest Camera Raw update (for CS-5) will not install in CS-4.  Short of buying CS-5 is there a way to update Camera Raw for CS-4?

Cs4 doesn't support the needed 6.3 camera raw plugin, but
you could use the 6.3 dng converter to convert your camera raw files to
the dng format so cs4 and bridge can read the files.

  • Nikon D7000 FCP 7 settings

    Hi.
I am a professional photographer so can talk about f/stops and shutter speeds and ISO all day long but Video Codec and fps are all something very new. Please excuse my novice status but I would like help in preparing my first big video project shoot on a Nikon D7000.
I would like to use the camera's highest setting which is:
    Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 pixel 24p (23.976 fps)
How would I prepare my files before importing them into Final Cut?
I am having trouble deciphering the discussions. Some say just import the file right from my card reader and others say the file needs to be converted from the native H.264 to Apple ProRes (though which exact ProRes setting seems to be up for discussion too!)
In the Audio/Video Settings of FCP there is a list of "Sequence Preset", "Capture Preset", "Device Control Preset", ect. I suppose I really need advice on what to set these preferences to.
I'm on a Mac v10.6.7, FCP 7 and I really would like to keep the 1920x1080 HD size from my Nikon D7000. Any help would be MOST welcomed

I have watched the video tutorial which was very informative on log and transfer. Thanks for the tip.
Here are two sources of information I have found out tonight which have helped me greatly.
#1 After you convert the Nikon D7000 H.264 to Apple ProRes, you DO NOT need to use Log and Transfer. You can just import them into FCP.
#2 There is a short little video tutorial on how to import Nikon D7000 footage at this link:

  • Aperture Lightroom Nikon D7000...

Hi have just upgraded my iMac and as my Nikon D7000 is not compatible with  Lightroom 2 which I had before I now need to either get Lightroom 3 or perhaps switch to Aperture.
2 questions - does the latest version of Aperture work well with the Nikon D7000. Seemless RAW conversion etc
And the obvious question Aperture vs Lightroom . I am not hugely techie but maange to understand and use LR well enough but Aperture seems to get good reviews and comments.
I should add that when my data was transferred to my new computer by a so called computer expert ALL my photos ended up n iphoto and there is nothing showing in Lightroom 2

    Hi Adele,
I've got the D5100, so the same sensor - and I use Aperture for pretty much everything.  If you're coming from Lightroom to Aperture, there are a few things that are a little different.  The items that immediately come to mind are:
Aperture can do on-screen soft-proofing, which is really useful for working out the effect of using different papers when printing your photos
Aperture doesn't do gradients, which is something that would be really nice
Aperture's terminology is a little different to Lightroom's - be prepared to read and think about it before diving in.
Unlike Lightroom, Aperture manages your images either in their current locations on the hard disk, or by importing them into a managed library - but in both cases, Aperture is the method by which you subsequently manage and organise the images - not Finder.  When you look at the images in Aperture, you are looking at a logical representation of your collection, not how they are stored on the disk. (to take this to a logical absurdity, every image could live in a single folder on the hard disk but in Aperture you could have organised them into 100 different Projects...).
Aperture has some quite cool brushes, which are more powerful than initially appreciated.  You can, for example, brush in curves...
On the downside, Aperture lacks an adjustment history for the image and "undo" works for the last adjustment only.  This isn't as bad as it sounds, as the sequence of adjustments should be from top to bottom of the list in any case...
Aperture is non-modal - processing and organising all happen in the one interface.
That's it for now - I'm sure there are other things, but be prepared to "think different"...

  • Aperture 2 and Nikon D7000 RAW files. Do I need to upgrade to Aperture 3?

I currently have a Nikon D70 with a Nikon D7000 on its way. I want to know if Aperture 2 will process Nikon D7000 RAW files. I searched Apple support and these discussions. I only could find confirmation that Aperture 3 now handles it. But I have not found anything that confirms that Aperture 2 indeed did NOT get an update to handle the D7000 RAW files.
    Can someone confirm this?
    Thanks.

For future reference, all the cameras listed on the Aperture RAW Support web page that have the double asterisk "**" require Aperture 3.

  • Camera raw Nikon D7000

Hi, I am in the UK. Will my Nikon D7000 raw files be opened in PSE 9 without having to downolad a plug-in or an upgrade? I have PSE 8 and it won't open the files. Thanks, ot

You need to update to PSE9 as your camera model is not supported in earlier versions
N.B. If you are not wishing to upgrade to PSE9 - you can use the freely available DNG converter 6.3 and then use Elements to open and edit the DNG files. It’s recommended you keep your original raw files as back-up as they can always be read by your camera software.
    DNG Converter 6.3for Windows.
    DNG Converter 6.3 for MAC.

  • PSE8/ACR won't show Nikon D7000 NEF files

Just got my Nikon D7000, but now it turns out, that PSE8/
ACR can't show the NEF files from the camera! What to do?

The Nikon D7000 will be supported by ACR 6.3, which should be released soon.  It is already available in Adobe Labs as RC, which will probably only work with Photoshop CS.

I can't not transfer files in 'log and transfer' of Final Cut Pro. I recorded it in SD card using Nikon D7000 and JVC GY-HM100U.
I think I need plug-in.  Please let me know.  Thank you.

Well, the Nikon D7000 footage cannot be logged and transferred.  There is no plugin for that like there is for the Canon cameras. Nikon never developed one.  So the footage from that camera will need to be converted with Compressor or MPEG STREAMCLIP.
The JVC should work...what version of FCP are you on?

  • Excessive re-rendering using Nikon D7000 clips

I just started using the Nikon D7000 clips in my final cut project and now every single edit requires rerendering. Why? And what can I do to avoid all this extra rerending time? I've been using Final Cut Express for a couple of years with footage off a Canon Vixia and I could do 90% of my editing without the need for rerendering. My workflow now includes syncing seperate audio files with the mov files using Dual Eyes. If I can't fix this outrageous rendering time I'm gonna have to ditch the DRSL idea and go back to the Canon. Is there anybody out there that knows what I'm talking about?

Thank you so much for this tip! I just downloaded MPEG Sreamclip and brought in a clip from the Nikon. I used the "Export to QuickTime" option and then chose the "Apple Intermediate Codec." I hope those were the correct steps. I brought the newly exported clip into Final Cut and I see that I can move it around the timeline and shorten it and such and it doesn't require rerendering. I'm doing a happy dance!
