Will the Quicktime installation error ever be solved?

Like many others, when trying to update to Itune 5.01, something happens that fouls up Quicktime and will not allow installation of QT7, standalone or not. It's this 1402 error of course which seems to be the root of all evil.
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\QuickTime
I cannot erase this registry key, I cannot change the permissions, and yes I am administrator. I have tried every solution offered, nothing works. There seems to be no deffinitive solution for this issue yet, not that I can tell. The only saving grace for me has been a workaround, and I don't like workarounds. It involved download a program called "Quicktime alternative", available here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4100.html
Once installed, Itunes works, but whose to say it will work with the next Itunes upgrade, or that there are issues with this workaround that I and others haven't run into yet. I wish Apple would solve this one!!

Well, before I go on, I have to say that I threw my hands up in the air and reinstalled windows. Took me hours...and hours. Just downloading and installing all those windows updates and patches alone ate up a whole evening, thank God for high speed. Anyhow, I'm finally back to normal, all my important programs reinstalled, and if there is a bright side to this, I may have been due as everything runs smoother now. The first program I installed was Itunes 6.0. I said a little prayer first. It's running smoothly so far I have to say (fingers crossed). As for the Norton, I wasn't running it. I was running AVG free version, however I did try shutting it down and every other unnecesssary backround program as well, and that never helped. I also tested other keys to see if I had permissions, and I did, so this might solve the issue for some, but I don't think it would have solved it for me however. I will now be running version 6.0 for as long as I can get away with, unless following versions get s reputation for not having any problems. Thanks for all your effort and concern, I appreciate it.

  • Premiere has the most enoying error ever in history

Hello people, I'm working at a project that involves a lot of Premiere and after I've progressed with it, it gives me the most killer error ever. How can I solve this? I can't recover my work, so everytime I have to start over from some point it auto-saved. Please help me with this!
I'll be waiting for your suggestions.
    Thanks!

So... this isn't actually any help, but I would have to say the most annoying error message ever is FCP's "General Error". Which would then be followed by your system crashing. Has to set a record for least informative error ever, and it used to come up fairly often.
I'd follow Steven's advice, and import either you project or sequence into a new project.

  • How can I embed the Quicktime installer into a projector

    Hi
I'm in the proccess of completing a large multimedia project in Director that has a good deal of Quicktime content.
Many of the people who will be making use of the end result don't have quicktime on their computers.
I was hoping to find a way of embedding the quicktime installer into the application so that the proccess can be as idiot proof as possible.
I don't have a great deal of experience with embedding things in Director, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

You can't (readily) "embed" an un-supported file type, like an executable, into a Director file. Instead, you ship the installer alongside your projector, or in some other known relative location, and then run it if you need to. Buddy API is a useful xtra in this situation because it will help you determine whether QT is installed, and which version, and also run the installer if/when required

  • Will the iPod Tiuch 4G ever get Siri?

It has enough power to run it, as other people have said. So will the iPod Touch 4G ever get Siri?

I included "make it work well."
Without the noise reduction hardware it does not work that well.

  • Here's the  FIX for one quicktime installation error

Can't believe this isn't mentioned in here anywhere or in any of the threads on the Web. I got help from the Ubergeeks on the Well, where I should have started in the first place.
If you can't install because Quicktime won't install (error -3, error 1402 etc.) and you can't get permissions to enter the registry keys...
    Run: regedit
navigate to the folder mentioned in the error message. For me it was HKEYLocalMachine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Quicktime
This seems to be the most often-cited culprit.
Right-click on the Quicktime folder. Select Permissions. Hit Advanced. Click the "Owner" tab. Click on yourself in the lower window. Hit OK.
    Install your software and enjoy.
This may not fix everyone's problems, but I bet it fixes the vast majority of those that are similar to the one I had, which I spend hours and hours trying to fix before I simply asked someone who knew what they were doing.
Maybe if the folks at Apple see this, they can, you know, add it to their troubleshooting guide. It's a very common problem.

In case anyone is reading this thread, I found a fix for this problem. In another discussion thread, a nice person referenced an article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93865 that explains what to do with these kinds of permission errors (1402 and 1406). I followed the instructions and also made the changes to the specific line item I had a problem with. Installation ran successfully although there were a couple of error messages about not being able to unregister a couple of .dlls, which apparently is not fatal to the installation.

  • Itune\quicktime installation error invalid G drive on Windows

    Hi,
I am trying to install Itunes 9 on a Thinkpad T61. When it gets to the quicktime phase, it says invalid G drive. I have tried going to the cmd prompt and performing Subst G: C:\, but after doing so it goes a little further, then says "the specified path is too long G:\lib". My only option is to cancel out. I have tried starting in my dock with external drive plugged in and thumb drive too to avoid having to use the SUBST command. When I do it this way, I get a different error, 2869.
I have tried just installing quicktime separately, but does not work either. I etiher get Error 2869 or that the G drive does not have enough space? I have a different laptop (older T41) that it worked just fine. Why not just use that one? The USB ports will not operate at 2.0! (known but separate problem). Sorry for the long question, but could not find anyother similar post!

Doublechecking Jim. Have you tried the procedure I describe in the following post? (In your case you'd be looking to change the drive letter to G rather than F.)

  • Quicktime Installation error message

I have been trying to install iTunes and keep getting the error message "The older version of Quicktime cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group".
I followed some of the instruction from previous posts. I've deleted any file with "quicktime" or "qt" in the name, restarted and tried installing just QT w/o iTunes. Still keep getting this error message. When I tried just installing QT, during the installation I got an error message saying it could not locate the ".msi" file, so I cancelled then got the "older version" message. Any ideas?

download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, then use it to remove any existing QuickTime installation configuration information:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll make sure we've manually removed all leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

  • Including the QuickTime Installer on a CD

Am I allowed to bundle the QuickTime stand alone installer with a product CD? If so, where can I find more information about this?
I just want to make sure my users with very slow Internet or no Internet connections can properly view these videos. I'm using the QT7 codec and most users will be using Windows machines.
(Omg a PC.)   Other OS   It's black and blue?

Thanks for the green "star" but I may have left out some "gotchas".
QuickTime 7 can't be installed on older Windows OS's (like 98) and even on a Mac OS it requires 10.3.9.
Some content (high data rate files mostly) will play poorly on older machines and the really big "gotcha" is the new H.264 Video codec.
I can play some HD files that use H.264 on my Mac mini (no larger than 480) but the same file drop frames on my XP machine and barely play half of the frames on my older G3 machine.
If you can create content that avoids H.264 Video encoding you'll reach a more complete audience with fewer playback issues.
MPEG-4 Video codec is a great option for these older machines as it puts more work on the graphics card and less on the CPU.
It will also play with QuickTime version 6.

  • SQL Server 2008 is the worst installation experience ever

Sorry but you guys have really messed up with SQL Server 2008 installation.
I've been using SQL server since 6.5, so I would classify as a fan.  We were looking at upgrading from 2005, which I was quite pleased with.
The installation experience is the worst I've ever experienced.  I am a computer expert, and I couldn't figure out how to install it properly.  Why is it that when I downloaded SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008, it seems as though it wants
to install the full database?  Why is it when I was asked if I wanted to install a new version of SQL Server 2008 or use a previous install, when I chose previous install, it said that an instance ID was missing, but there was no way to specify anything
    else?  It drove me crazy.
Why are there so many requirements and restrictions for the installation, when all I want to do is install Management Studio?  It's intolerable and makes me never want to upgrade to 2008.  Why is the process so terrible when Microsoft is supposed
to have the best UE people in the business?
You guys did a really terrible job on this one.

We have not tried to cluster 2012.  We used to cluster; however, we were not prepared to manage the added complications.  The result was that our non-clustered servers had better uptime.  We used to joke about how many 8s we were
getting with our cluster.  (To be fair, it did not help that we had a 7x24 SLA with only 8-5 staff.  When the cluster fails to failover, it can be a long time before it is fixed.  We eventually got the kinks worked out.)
I understand the frustration.  Excellence and stability can be achieved, but product lifecycles can punish those who seek such qualities.  Product changes and shorter support lifecycles produce revenue for MS, so I don't see this getting better.
There will be a new OS, new SQL, and a new set of problems the next time around.
I expect things to get worse until we get pushed into the cloud.  A stable environment in the cloud is profitable for MS and clients.  I do not think this is the case now outside the cloud.  Upgrading applications to remain
on supported products is very costly.  And about the only business benefit of the upgrade is that the product remains on a supported platform and gets security updates.  Sort of sound like that blackmail virus?  I'd rather pay to have a
patch for new features and focus on application upgrades that improve business processes.  Now bug fixes can require a major version change - which will have new bugs.  I'm ranting because of some head pounding
I've done this week due to a hard coded limitation introduced in SQL 2012 by design.  I'll replace the process, but I wonder how long it will work as my SQL related PSH often breaks with a new version of something.  I'll
stop now. Where'd my Prozac go?  Next week is new week, life is good, everything will work,....
PS I actually enjoy the work and think MS products are decent; however, our environment does seem to be more frail and less stable due to MS product changes - even if the products are getting better.  Better is worse - what an odd thought.

  • Can't install the CC installer - error 201.

I'm trying to download a trial of Indesign and failing on this first step!
    Any suggestions?
    running on Win7 Ultimate x64
    -Ian.

    Hi Ian,
I've been having the same problem and have scoured the internet for the last 4 hours. Tried to Customer Service Chat but had to wait too long, all the forum answers by staff say things like "refer to here about your internet connection" which did not help me at all and in my opinion, quite lousy customer service. Finally, I found a solution.
Try the direct download links here:
Adobe CC 2014 Direct Download Links – Creative Cloud 2014 Release | ProDesignTools
You bypass the need for the CC installer. It makes things maybe a little less simple in the future and you need a few extra steps, but it works.
Follow the instructions carefully. I disabled all my firewall programs. You'll need to install the 7-zip extractor. Download the links, extract the files using the 7-zip program, and run the .exe file that you've extracted.
I'm also running Win7 x64, had to download Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign tonight for my job tomorrow. CC installer never worked no matter what I did.
Let me know if it works for you! Fingers crossed.

  • Quicktime installation error

I have just downloaded the new iTunes release 6.0.1.3 with Quicktime 7.0.3. However, I keep getting a QuickTime failed message - Error Code -3.
There is nothing in the "support" FAQ about this, and I now cannot open iTunes as it says I need 7.0.3 (not 7.0.2 as installed)
I have uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime and re-installed, but still get the same message.
I am on Windows XP 5.1.
    Any ideas??

    I went to
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-u
    s;290301
and downloaded the Cleanup utility near the bottom of
that page. When it installs on your machine it will
scan your computer for every installer every ran on
you're machine. Only select iTunes and Qtime and
delete those 2 installers. Then I think I went to
add/remove programs and removed iTunes and Qtime.
Prior to this Qtime would not unistall but now it
did. Funny thing was there was no prompting by
windows once I hit "remove/repair" in the
    "add/remove programs" functions.
Then rerun the iTunes 6.0.1 update. That had been
failing to install Qtime prior to this but now it
installed and I see all my music again and iTunes
works. Let me know if this does the trick, I hope so.
Thank you for this post -- I also couldn't run iTunes after the update, and was very concerned that I would be unable to access my music (and audiobook) library. Your troubleshooting info did the trick, and I'm up and running.
I guess the smart question would be: what is the best way to backup my iTunes library (files)? It's about 50GB and is monopolizing our hard drive. Thanks for the tip and any help offered.

  • ITunes + Quicktime installation error

Originally, I attempted to upgrade my old version of iTunes to version 7.2.3, and at the end of the installation I receive an error saying:
+An error occurred while attempting to create the directory: C:\Program Files\Common Files+
I then uninstalled iTunes, and tried to reinstall it to see if it'd fix the problem. But I keep getting the same error message, and the installation will not continue.
Does anyone know what's wrong with it? And what can I do to fix this? Please help, I'd really appreciate it.

Given that it's idiosyncratic, let's try seeing if the *General Instalation Troubleshooting* section from the following document is of any help:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime software in Windows
... but if no joy there, let's try getting an installer log to the Apple Engineers for a look.
    1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
    2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
    3. Type in a space, then the following line:
    /l*v C:\log.txt
    4. Hit return.
    5. The installer will create a log file:
    C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address: [email protected]
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

  • QuickTime installation error message....PLZ HELP

The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\ProgramFiles\QuickTime. Installation cannot continue. Log in as an administrator.  This is the message i get when installing QuickTime.  I am logged in as admin.  and ive also tried changing the file name and it wont let me do that either.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Got the answer to the identity installation error 80003 blackberry app world

***hi guys I have found the resolution for the error "Blackberry identity installation failed 80003" here's the answer: Go on your blackberry menu and select "Options" Select "Advanved Options" then select "TCP/IP" then tick the fi...rst box that says "APN Settings Enabled" Then on the second row next to APN type 'internet'. Exit and save the settings and try to open the App world again. You have to reboot your phone. After that your App world will work again :-)

Not sure if this will help, but a lot of people having problems with the BB ID update manage to get it working by doing the update when your wi-fi is on and connected. Give that a go and see if it works, otherwise you might be able to use an older version of AppWorld - you can get one (browse on your phone) at http://santo.asia/repository/bb-file/BlackBerryAppWorld.3.0.1.29.OS5/AppWorld.jad

  • QuickTime Installation Error: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWA

    Hello,
I am trying for the millionth time to install itunes and QuickTime. If I install from the ipod disk, I get error message -3.
If I do it from the QT website, I get error message "Could not open key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion|Uninstall\QuickTime. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel"
    Plese help!!
    Thanks

The path your showing is for the registry, and permissions related, from before QT7 probably QT6 is my guess. You might want to try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us and remove any old QT installer configuration. Or if you can, use whatever administrator user account that originally installed QT. Or go into the registry and find who owns the key and take ownership and full control
