Will the TC support XBOX Live?

I am looking into purchasing the Time Capsule, but am curious if I will have to keep my existing router in order to support XBOX Live. Endstate I will have the IMac, (2) I Phones, (2) I-Pads, (2) XBOX's- WIFI, and a Wireless Printer. Can the TC support them all with a direct connection to my modem without using an additional router? Thanks for the help.

Xbox depends on upnp which is not used by Apple in the TC. You can manually port forward the required ports.. but you will have issues with 2xXbox.. if you want both to work on internet at the same time.. this requires a router that is vista upnp compatible as the ports cannot be used twice (ie you cannot forward the same port to two different IP addresses). upnp is designed to sort that out, but even then many routers do not work properly.
So as Bob suggested you may be forced to use the TC in bridge and keep using your existing router. Or even purchase a different modem/router to allow for full xbox access. This should be sorted out by IPv6 btw, when all the devices on the network can get a fully networked address instead of hidden behind a NAT.

  • When will the JRE support Intel 64EMT/Windows

I have an Intel dual pentium 4 processor that claims to support 64EMT. I was thinking about loading Windows 2003 Server 64 bit edition with JAVA to test our JAVA product we sell. I found out though that for Windows the current JRE only supports the AMD64 processor. Does anyone know when they will have a JRE that support the Intel 64EMT architecture on the Windows platform?

Apple currently doesn't support USB 3.0 so there is no advantage to getting a USB 3.0 hub. However the hub should work but at 2.0 speeds.

  • How do I change my NAT from "strict" so I can properly use Xbox LIVE?

I am able to connect to Xbox LIVE, but the Xbox (360) reports my NAT as "strict", which means I don't have a good connection and can't even participate in some things like tournaments on Project Gotham Racing 3.
I've spent hours researching this on the net. No luck yet, but here's what I've tried so far:
One post (http://forums.xbox.com/8109385/PrintPost.aspx) said there are three ways to fix my problem: (1) Use UPnp (universal plug 'n' play, the equivalent of which on the Airport Express seems to be NAT Port Mapping Protocol), (2) Set up a DMZ (demilitarized zone, which is called a Default Host by the Airport Express), and (3) Port Mapping.
First, turning on NAT Port Mapping Protocol doesn't have an effect on my Xbox-reported NAT rating of "strict".
Second, I tried setting up a Default Host at 10.0.1.253 then assigning my Xbox an IP of 10.0.1.253. I assigned this IP only through the Xbox's network settings. It seems like I was supposed to assign the IP to the Xbox using the Airport Admin Utility, but if there's a way of doing so, I don't see it. Also within the Xbox's network settings, I set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and the gateway to 10.0.1.1 (my Airport Expres). When I tested the connection to Xbox LIVE, I failed at the DNS stage. So I manually set the DNS info to the primary and secondary DNS specified by my ISP (and shown in the Internet tab of Airport Admin Utility). I retested my connection to Xbox LIVE. Now I passed the DNS test but failed the next test, called MTU. I looked up how to set the MTU and did so according to these instructions from the Apple Support pages: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303192. I tried MTU values of 1400, 1500, 1362 (recommended minimum specified on Xbox), and 3000 but was unable to pass the MTU test on the Xbox.
I tried port mapping as explained on the Microsoft Xbox forums (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874) and further explained here: http://www.jakeludington.com/xbox/20060103xbox_live_connectionproblems.html. I tried to do this with the Port Mapping tab in Airport Admin Utility, but I wasn't able to specify all of the information given in that last link, so I don't know if I did it right.
Hours of work and no success, but this ought to be possible, right? Help?
    20" iMac 1.25GHz G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I tried to do this with the Port Mapping tab in Airport Admin Utility, but I wasn't able to specify all of the information given in that last link, so I don't know if I did it right.
As you already know, XBox Live requires three ports to communicate: UDP 88, UDP 3074, & TCP 3074. The AirPort Express Base Station doesn't distinguish between UDP & TCP for port mapping, so you will only need to map one port for the UDP/TCP 3074 values.
    Try the following...
    Port Mapping tab
    - Click "Add"
    - Public Port: 88
    - Private Address: 10.0.1.253
    - Private Port: 88
    - Click "Ok"
    - Click "Add"
    - Public Port: 3074
    - Private Address: 10.0.1.253
    - Private Port: 3074
    - Click "Ok"

  • Trying to connect to xbox live using my home network, I need help.

I have a xbox 360 that I want to connect to xbox live with, using my home network. Every time I try to connect to xbox live the only part that fails is the connecting to xbox live part. This is how my network is set up. I have Cox Cable as my ISP, a Linksys WCG200 gateway(v2), and WRT54GS(v7). The cable wire is connected to the WCG200 gateway, then an Ethernet cable connects the gateway to the WRT54GS router, and finally an Ethernet cable connects the router to my xbox 360. I have contacted Cox, Linksys, and Microsoft about the situation and they all say the problem is the version of the router. Someone told me that I may just need to change the firmware, but I don't know how to do that. If anyone could tell me what the problem is and hopefully how to fix it, it would be much appreciated.

u might to open port numbers 88 and 234 on your router
    here's how to open ports
1: open IE and on the address bar, type in 192.168.1.1 and hit enter
USERNAME: ( leave it blank )
PASSWORD: admin ( all in lowercases )
2: click on the tab " applications and gaming "  then click on the SUBTAB port triggering.
3: you can just name the application like, box or whatever and fill in 88 for each of the boxes in the first line
4: same goes to application number 2 but you have to put 2304 for each of the boxes and pls do not forget to enable it, then save settings
5: Teset the xbox if it's now working.
6: if still not working, go to the SECURITY tab and uncheck the bock that says, " block anonymous internet requests and save settings.
7: teset xboox agan and if it still won't work
8: go to the SET UP tab and look for MTU.
9: set it to manual and lower down the size by 10.( by default, it's 1500. )→ save settings.
              Hope it will help. goodluck!

  • Airport express, Bt Homehub, Xbox Live

Ok, a quick brief, i have the following hardware
    -Bt Homehub
    -Airport Express
-D-Link router (not in use, not a wireless either)
    -Xbox 360
    -iBook g4
    -Belkin 54g Wireless Network Adapter
ok excuse my ignorance as i am not the biggest techie in the world.
i am looking to connect my xbox360 to the internet for xbox live, not a problem if i can keep it next to my Homehub (i can connect via ethernet)
The problem i have is, my xbox is to be moved into my bedroom, it is not feasable to trail ethernet cable through the house.
I have a wireless network running through the BT Homehub, currently the Airport Express is laying dormant.
I will have my iBook next to my xbox360 on my desk.
Does anyone have any idea's if at all possible that i can connect my xbox360 using my current hardware to my wireless network.
I have tried various things but have not succeded.
I look forward to any criticism's, suggestions etc.

Your issue was double NAT.. and the lack of upnp in the airport time capsule products to open ports to those devices. With the TC in bridge you now have a single router the BT home hub in your case, which is fully upnp aware. This is so important when trying to run multiple game consoles as you cannot manually port forward in that situation.
Let me add, with some of the latest games like black ops or mw3 you may still have issues. It depends which home hub you have as there are several with latest ones now sourced from manufacturers other than Thomson. All the Thomson based devices have issues with full CONE nat and forwarding of udp packets. There are special cone bind commands.
    See this post for details.
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1739702
Port forwarding is a plague on the internet and the sooner we move to ipv6 the better although I have no doubt the process will be extremely painful. NAT is a kludge that results in all sorts of errors and issues.

  • NAT Open? For Xbox Live? Where is NAT?

Yes, I recently have got Xbox Live with my Xbox 360, however some of my friends can't connect to me because it says my NAT is not "Open" it's "Limited"
I went in my router settings, and couldn't find anything that said NAT Open or NAT Limited, all i saw was NAT One - to - One.
Which i didn't understand so i didn't mess with it.
Linksy's didn't help either, they said they'd patch me through to another guy, an Hour and a half later i hung up.

If you are in the Xbox 360 dashboard, go to the rightmost tab (it's purple) and scroll down to "Network Settings."  When you go there, one of the options will be to "Test Xbox Live Connection" (or something like that.)  Run that test, and the current NAT status will show at the bottom.
The other router setting I have seen mentioned is setting Upnp to enabled.
(What kind of router are you using?)

  • Two questions about the E1000 and Xbox 360

Okay this is going to be a two part questions. ( both my friend and I have the E1000 )
    1st
My friend and his brother are having issues with their Xbox 360's. My friend has his xbox set to dmz mode and his brother is just using I guess we'll say the default way. And when my friend is playing any game his brother tries to play call of duty black ops and the nat says strict or moderate. Now I was reading about port range triggering and how to set it up but there are different ways some people are doing it. I've seen a few videos that the people had different settings. Whats the correct way that my friend and his brother can both play xbox 360 and not have any nat issues?
    ( BTW their both hook-up wired )
    2nd
I'm currently using dmz settings as-well ( wireless ) My home users only uses a few devices like laptops, ipods, kindle, and just one Xbox. Now I want the optimal performance I can get. I'm currently downloading mass effect ( games on demand xbox 360 ) The game size is 6.83gb and taking awhile to download. I say I've been downloading it for over 40 minutes and I'm currently at 77%, is this normal speed? Or can I boost my speed a bit? My Internet Provider is Cablevision in NJ "Optimum Online" download is 15mbps download is 5mbps.

Xbox live will only let you connect 1 xbox for every WAN IP address. Your ISP gives you only 1 dynamic public IP which will be pass down from the modem to the router. The router gives your other devices private ip addresses.
Strictly speaking, only 1 xbox will be allowed by xbox live to connect because of the reason you only have 1 public ip. You will be lucky if you can connect two.
Anyway, you can try the steps below:
Access the page of your router
    Click Admin Tab, disable UpNP.
    Then trigger ports: 3074/53/88/22728/33233
    2869/10280-10284/1900/1024
Click Applications and Gaming Center Tab
    Click Port Range Trigger
    Ex:
    Application name: xbox1, xbox2
xbox1--enter port 3074 on all 4 boxes and click enable
xbox2--enter 10280 on start box and 10284 on end box, same for the other 2 boxes and click enable.
Enter all number and on the applications boxes and save

  • Will Radeon x800xt support  30" ACD plus a 23"ACD

I have a dual 2ghz G5 tower with an ATI Radeon x800xt graphics card. Will the system support two Apple Cinema Displays simultaneously: a 30" plus a 23""?

According to ATI, the X800XT has one dual link DVI port (for the 30" ACD) and one ADC port (for legacy Apple displays). If your 23" display is the newer aluminum version, you'll need an adapter.
    Hope this helps!

  • Firewall/Xbox Live

    Hi there,
I haven't been able to find a solution to my problem so I thought I'd post here. I have Mac OS X Server 10.4.11 running my home network as a gateway. I've managed to get most things working that I needed through the firewall but Xbox Live is killing me. For some reason I keep getting the same "MTU test failed" every time I try testing the Xbox Live connection. I have been through probably 10 or more documents explaining all the required settings. I have forwarded ports according to Microsoft's web site as well as verified that I am in fact getting the required MTU throughput. Apparently this MTU error is also a generic catch-all error message so I thought I'd post here and see if anyone could make some suggestions.
    Thanks for your help!

I just picked up a Xbox 360 over the holiday and also had issues getting it to coonect to Live through my Xserve(10.4.11 server)that I use as a gateway. When I opened the ports Live needed I also received MTU errors. Removing those port permissions caused the MTU issue to clear but then the Live login would fail. I attempted to run 'TheNATural' application but I still continued to fail at login.
After several days of trying different things I was finally able to connect to Live by doing the following. First in 'TheNATural', I set the Xbox's ip address in the space for a DMZ address. Then under Firewall in the Server Admin app, I selected 'allow all' for the 'any' ip address range. After doing this, my Xbox cleared the connection test.
Doing this isn't a final solution since this leaves your network wide open. I plan on working with this some more to see if I can lock down things more and still have a connection to Live. I would say just use my method if you want to test your connection.
