Will the Thunderbolt Display work when I close the lid?

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro. I'm thinking about buying the Thunderbolt Display, but only if it can simulate a desktop and I can close the lid of my Macbook. I'm asking this because I know it goes to sleep when closed and was wondering if the Display makes it work differently. thanks.

Works great and how I do 90% of my computing.
I use a usb wireless keyboard with the receiver plugged in to the back of the TBD. When the laptop is asleep press the space key once or twice to wake up the display (be patient, doesn't work as fast as you think it should). I use a screenlock password, so enter it and we're working!
One note: if the computer is turned off you can not turn it on from the keyboard. You'll have to open the laptop, turn it on, and once you hear the chime you can close the laptop and you're gtg.

It seems my MacBook Pro retina has to be charging in order to use theThunderbolt display. When I close the Macbook lid and I remove the charger the display goes off. Is there anyway I do not have to be charging my laptop in order to use the display?

Also when I press a key to restart after it has been idle for a few minutes it often takes up to a minute to wake back up.

No external monitors or devices attached. When you mention that this function only works when devices are attached that is true when you set up your preferences that way. Up until my upgrade to Lion the computer would always go into sleep mode when I closed the lid. There also used to be an option to check in system preferences that allowed you to choose this option. My question for the discussion is what happened to that option and how do you get the computer to sleep or at least the display to sleep when you close the lid as we have been able to do in the past. TS1365 Battery is fully charged. When I first put on my Macbook, screen went blue and nothing happened. Now, there is no fire up when I depress the start button. When I close the lid, the sleep light comes on.

When I launch Firefox (both 3.6 and 4), I get the 'tab' on the task bar, but cannot open it! When I launch it a second time, it works fine, and continues to work when I close the first, non-working version!

I click on the firefox icon, a 'taskbar' tab appears, but nothing happens and I cannot open it. If I then click again on the icon or on the desktop icon, it works! Everything worked fine till this morning!

1a. Check that you have the current version of Pages (and of the other iWork applications) installed. All three applications' current version numbers end in .0.5
2. A common cause of malfunctioning applications is a corrupted preferences file (.plist file). Your Pages '09's plist is at yourname > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iWork.pages.plist
Quit Pages, locate the file and Drag it to the Desktop (or to the Trash).
Restart Pages and attempt to open one of the files.
If all is well, Trash the plist file and empty the Trash.
If there's no change, AND you've made changes to the Preferences that you wish to keep, drag the file back to its previous location, replacing any new one that has been created.

Why is the FaceTime HD camera on the thunderbolt display not as sharp as the iPad

I just hooked up the 27" Thunderbolt display. The "HD" camera is not very sharp (looks the same as my old iMac). By contrast, the iPad2 camera is clear and sharp? I've looked for settings or "About this Mac" info without success.

How do you get the personas to work when you scroll the pointer over it? i cant get this to work. i have to wear it just to see how it looks

Previewing a persona only works on sites that are white-listed via an allow exception.
You can see the permissions for the domain in the current tab in:

Since the last update the apple that lights up on the top (cover) of the computer stays lit when I close the computer. It used to go off, not it is always on unless I actually turn the computer completely off. How do I fix or change this?

Is there a setting to chage or a way to fix that? I don't want to use all of the power because the light won't go off now.

Yes. You'll need to create a Mavericks USB installer from the App Store download, and the App Store is only available with 10.6 and above, so that's a challenge for you to overcome, but that SSD will install just fine.

The ethernet port on the thunderbolt display is not working

The ethernet is working when the cable is connected directly to my mac laptop but when connected the thunderbolt display there is no connection. Is there some type of set up for the ethernet connection or can this port just be broken?

Afterthought on an older post: it isn't immediately clear that the Ethernet port on the Thunderbolt Display works through the "Display Ethernet" interface, rather than through the "Thunderbolt Ethernet" interface. The latter was already present in the list of network interfaces in Network Preferences, while the former had to be added via the + button --- at least that was the case when I installed the TB display to work with my 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina this week.
The AppleCare rep didn't know the difference either and agreed with me that it was puzzling that using the Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter on the Thunderbolt port of the display did work, wheras using the Ethernet port directly didn't (even though there were lights flashing on the Ethernet port of that other computer I tried to connect to in Internet Sharing mode). Close reading of the above posts made me go look for that mysterious "Display Ethernet" interface... thank you Clinton!

Screen wont shut off when I close the laptop after fresh install (L512)

So I recently replaced the hard drive in an lenovo L512 with an i3. I've updated windows completely and installed I believe most of the drivers. Everything seems to be functioning perfectly. The only thing is when I close the laptop. The display does not shut off. Is there a driver I am missing? I am running windows 7 professional x64. completely legitimate copy with the original key from the laptop. Thanks for any help!
