Will the upgrade erase my apps?

I'm currently running OS X Lion, and I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion but I'm afraid that doing so will erase all my apps and programs such as CS6 and Microsoft Office.  Can anyone tell me if this is something I should be worried about or am I just being paranoid? Thanks!
- Mike -

no, everything will remain intact exactly how you have them now. (at least CS6) I've been running CS6 since the release and I've had no real issues doing graphics or photo editing with it. Both work without a hitch for me. I find they work even faster then their predecessors. I digress.
Having said that, it is always wise to back up your system in case.

You can only update to the latest iOS which currently is iOS 5.1.1.
Connect your iPad to your computer and follow the prompts. If iTunes is not the latest version then you will be prompted to update that first. The same will then apply to your iPad. It will automatically do a backup unless you tell it otherwise and y will be prompted to restore from that backp in the latter part of the process.

  • Will the upgrade to Photoshop

Will the upgrade to Photoshop and Lightroom CC align with the Apple MacBook release of Yosimite OS ?  Please advise.

Are you asking whether the current release of Photoshop will work on Yosemite?  Or whether there will be an update that coincides with the release date of Yosemite?
As a fellow user I can't speak for Adobe and I can only offer observations...
Adobe doesn't march to the beat of other companies' drums, but they've been known to acknowledge new operating system releases and put out updates to ensure their software works.  That's assuming it doesn't work right out of the box of course.  The one thing they really never do ahead of time is promise particular release contents or dates, though they do release updates through the Creative Cloud system fairly often.
Some folks have reported problems here on the forum with Photoshop on beta versions of Yosemite.  That may mean nothing because people don't often go to a forum to say "it works!" and there are people reporting problems with Photoshop on older versions of OSX as well.  But it's important to note that a failure of an application to work on a beta operating system necessarily needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
Here's a suggestion for a strategy (not necessarily aimed at you in particular, sailor dan):
Wait until Yosemite has actually been released, but don't install it.  Then come here and find out how well others are finding Photoshop to work with it.  Do the same with other major applications you need.  Nothing says you have to upgrade your operating system first THEN find out if your apps work.
You're right to be planning ahead.  Just don't be blinded by a desire to get the latest and greatest until you've confirmed the integration of all the software you need can work properly.

  • HT4972 will the info in my apps (Passwords, notes and records) be saved when I update to iOS5

will the info in my apps (Passwords, notes and records) be saved when I update to iOS5

Yes, as long as you back up the iPod first via iTunes before performing the update.  Use the instructions in this Apple support document to walk you through the upgrade process.

Can I use the same itunes for my ipad and iphone on my computer?  Will the computer erase my other device information?

The computer will not erase the information.  Each device will show up in iTunes as a separate device and you can control the information for each device through iTunes.

  • Will the Find My Phone app work on Iphone 3

Will the Find My Phone app work on the Iphone 3? If so, how do I activate it?

If you have MobileMe, you must use the Settings pane in your MobileMe email to activate the service that way.
If you have iOS 5 and an iCloud account, you can turn on Find my iPhone in that same manner (iCloud email address) without using the app.
The application itself just shows you where your iPhone is, so this could work with other iOS devices, etc.
Either way, you will still need to logon to me.com or icloud.com to track your phone (first two methods).

If I buy Final Cut Pro X now, will the new version, promised when the Mac Pro is released, be free to upgrade?
Having bought Logic Pro 9 last year and now having to upgrade to Logic Pro X at full cost, I don't want to make the mistake of paying for Final Cut Pro X now and then having to pay full for it again when new version is released.

  • Will the upgrade to APE12 work on APE8?

A while back I bought Adobe Premiere Elements 8 because I needed something that was better with video editing than Windows Live Movie Maker and well I fount that on Windows 7 APE8 is rather unstable... So I was wondering if the upgrade to APE12 will work on my current AP8 or would I have to upgrade to 12 from 11?
    Thanks

    sddreancrtstal
I am not sure I understand your question. Please let allow me to respond to what I think you are asking and then you can correct me if I am way off target.
These different Premiere Elements versions are all standalone projects. When you move to a later version, it is a different version. The only significance of "upgrade" in the Premiere Elements world is a possible price break when you buy the later version if you can prove that you have an earlier version.
I have found that the Premiere Elements versions that you mention in your question (8.0/8.0.1, 11, and 12) run well on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit computer. The bonus is that versions 11 and 12 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit are then 64 bit applications and can then take advantage of the 64 bit resources. Means getting a larger project taken to successful conclusion with a greater frequency than if the program was a 32 bit application. Your version 8.0/8.0.1 is a 32 bit application even if you use it on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
I would suggest that whatever your decision go the tryout route before purchase. The interface change from 8.0/8.0.1 to 11 or 12 is dramatic.
Please review the above. After you do, please let me know if I have targeted your question. I will clarify further if requested.
    Thank you.

  • How, exactly, will the upgrade work?

I'd like to find out how, exactly the upgrade from Logic Studio 8 to Logic Studio 9.
I need to find out because I had a burglary and my installed version of Logic Studio 8 was stolen. I still have all the install DVDs, so, if the upgrade works on those, I have no problem. If the update works from the installed version, then I do.
If it does work from the installed version, is there a way of de-registering the computer that has been stolen? With iTunes there's a useful feature where you can de-authorise all your machines, including those you haven't got, then re-authorise just those that you do have. Is there some way of doing this with Logic?

It works either way. I've done both.
If logic is already installed on your machine, all you need to do is type in the logic 9 serial number.
If not as in your case, you will be asked for the new serial number and the old serial number from
logic 8. Hopefully you still have this number with your previous install disks.
Not sure about de-authorization. I know that you can only run 1 copy of logic at a time on the "same" network.
As eriksimon suggested, best to ask apple.

  • Will the upgrade script proceed if one did not run preupgrade.sql first ?

    Hi all,
    testing my upgrade from [windows 2003 32bit 10.2.0.5.0] to [windows server 2008r2 64bit 12.1.0.2.0]
it seem that if i did not run the preupgrade.sql on the source database,
    the upgrade script seem not able to proceed -> %ORACLE_HOME%/perl/bin/perl catctl.pl -l %ORACLE_HOME%/diagnostics catupgrd.sql
I was checking the log under -> %ORACLE_HOME%\diagnostics\catupgrd*.log
scrolled to the bottom, it mention the "preupgrade.sql has not being run" ERROR....
sorry i couldn't capture the exact error as i have overwritten the catupgrd*.log .
    My question is,
if i were to restore from rman tape(10.2.0.5.0 dataflies) to a new host (12.1.0.2.0),
what's the point of running the preupgrade.sql?
Cause i feel that it is not base on the 10.2.0.5.0 .
Or i just need to run it (preupgrade.sql) after i have restore from tape to the new host so that i can con't to proceed with my upgrade process?

Or i just need to run it (preupgrade.sql) after i have restore from tape to the new host so that i can con't to proceed with my upgrade process?
You will not be able to do this since you will not be able to open the 10.2.0.5 database files using the 12.1.0.2 binaries.

If I sync my new ipod to my existing backup will the settings for all of my games, etc. remain or will they need to be started over again?

Depending on what is in the back up and when the backup was taking, everything should be as is after you restore to an existing backup.

  • Will the "Track my phone" app still work even thought the service is off?

I lost my phone the other night, and tonight we turned off the service so whoever has it can't text/call. Will this effect the app "track my phone" so that it won't be able to track it?

Yes. It can't be tracked now unless it's connected to Wi-Fi.

  • Will the upgrade delete photo titles/labels?

Just got a new iMac (lucky me!), planning to migrate 150GB of pics & movies from an iMac G5 (iLife '05 I think) this weekend. Does anyone know if the labels I typed in for thousands of photos will be lost if I upgrade?
I once had kernel panics with a crappy router on my old G5. In this case an iPhoto rebuild with iPhotoLibraryManager did not retrieve the labels, just the photos, albums and folders.
All very disappointing news, having held off buying for the past two months until iLife '11 came out. Any rumours of imminent bug fixes to all these problems?
    cheers, Rossy

There are reports of an update being "imminent" but this is Apple and there's always something in the offing. If you can wait a couple of days then I would.
As always, make sure you have a back up.
