Will the1TB SATA Hard Disk Drive Kit for Mac Pro now in the Mac Store work with my Mac Pro1,1?

Will the 1TB SATA Hard Disk Drive Kit for Mac Pro now in the Mac Store work with my Mac Pro1,1? My details of my Mac Pro is as follows:
Model Name:          Mac Pro
  Model Identifier:          MacPro1,1
  Processor Name:          Dual-Core Intel Xeon
  Processor Speed:          2.66 GHz
  Number Of Processors:          2
  Total Number Of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per processor):          4 MB
  Memory:          6 GB
  Bus Speed:          1.33 GHz
  Boot ROM Version:          MP11.005C.B08
  SMC Version (system):          1.7f10
  Hardware UUID:          00000000-0000-1000-8000-0017F2059956

It will say "green" and use less power, park its head probably, and while early units had some trouble they have evolved. Variable rpm or slower rpm also. They can be much less expenisve way to add storage.
WD Caviar Green
WD Green 2TB
For the system, 640GB is a nice size. Look for 64MB cache to help insure your drive is the latest models which will also say "6G SATA 3" which is fine.
WD Caviar Black 1TB 6Gb
WD Black Caviar 2TB
larger means higher density platter, I find the 1TB and larger Blacks to run hotter/warmer and companys want drives to be able to run warmer or with less cooling. - but for really cold drives other than SSD I have found all my WD 10K VRs to have the absolute coldest temps.
Just noticed Amazon having better prices than Newegg on 1TB - and WD and Hitachi.
Green for your external backup, for media libraries that are not high volume access, to run cool and less power. Enterprise for system and performance.  TimeMachine sometimes makes a poor backup method with some green cases.

I am trying to connect my JVC Hard Disk Drive Camcorder to my IPAD 2 via the Apple camera kit. I am able to download photos, but video files not showing. Camera shows Mass Stoarge. How can I download videos please?

The file name only has 6 characters and I'm not sure what the .mod format is. So that's why they are not seen by the iPad.
Another way to transfer. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

There's iOS apps for iOS which is what iPods, iPads, and iPhones use.  Then there are Mac Apps (which is a different store) which is what run on a computer with OSX.

  • SATA hard disk driver

    hi
i got a SATA1 hard disk from toshiba model mk2555gsx and when i try to install any operating system it says it cant find any disk installed, my laptop is gateway model m-6804, i´ve donwloaded SATA drivers for my laptop ad it doest work, and i dont find hard disk driver from toshiba, please a dont know what else to do. thak you

First go into the bios and verify that the hard drive is recognized by the bios.  If it isn't, then you either have a defective hard drive or a defective motherboard controller. According to the specs on that Gateway model it uses the same chipset that a lot of Toshiba Laptops use so it should support that hard drive.  Please note that while Vista and Windows 7 have built in support for SATA hard drives, XP and Windows 2000 do not and will require integrating the SATA drivers into the XP install disk.  ME, 98, and all previous versions of Windows do NOT have ANY support for SATA and will NOT work with SATA period.
Next, Toshiba's Hard Drive Support is located at http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=ServicesSupport/TechnicalSupport  This forum is ONLY for Toshiba Laptops and Projectors.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Serial number for Logic Pro purchased in the App Store?

I just digitally downloaded Logic Pro 9 through the App Store, but I can't open it because it requires a serial number on login which wasn't provided. Any ideas? Shouldn't it be associated with my appleid and not need to be registered?

Yes, it is. This happens when you have an old version of Logic Pro 9 somewhere on the hard drive. Delete old versions and re-download from the Mac App Store. That will fix it.

  • Hard disk drive replacements for MacBookPro

    Good morning.
I own a MBP, 2.16 Intel Duo Core.
110G (original) hard disk at about 80%; running OS 10.4.11; need to upgrade to 10.5.6 to run iLife 9 for a class at school.
    1) Have received disk error -- "Volume Header Needs Minor Repair" Error: underlying task reported failure on exit.
    2) Repair from install disk does not correct the problem.
    3) Machine is still operational although it has not been shut down either.
    4) Since I need additional disk space, why not just upgrade the disk and the OS?
    5) Will either of these disk work? and well? why or why not?
    -Model ST904304N3; SATA NCQ interface 16MB cache, 320 G
    -Model ST3500641AS-RK; 500 G bare bones (?)
    6) Any one on the deep south side of chicago (Cal City/Hammond area) work such things?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Any 2.5" serial ATA (SATA) drive will work. Buying a new hard drive is an option, since the other repair you could try would be to buy Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro, both which cost a little more than a new hard drive.
I usually get my hard drives from Newegg.com, with good prices and good user comments. Here are SATA drives they carry: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010150380%201035915 133&name=SATA%203.0Gb%2fs . OWC is another source, and here are their drives: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/SATA .
If you want to buy your own drive and have someone else install it, you might consider an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The closest one can be located at http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/ . Note Apple stores won't install a drive you bring in, however, generally the authorized service providers will.

  • Can you a second Sata Hard Disk Drive in M Series?

    Hello,
Can I install a second hard drive in M Series?
In particular I would like to install a Seagate Barracuda SATA 1TB drive.
I know it only has one bay, but I can house the disk in a separate case.
    Thank you
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I believe it depends on the version of the m series you have.
on the m72e series (small form factor); there is only one 3.5" sata bay.
on the motherboard, there are 3 sata headers (cd drive/ hard drive + 1 other).
the way i did it was to order a silverstone dual 2.5 => 3.5" drive adapter that screwed into the drive slot (you have to be careful; not all drive adapters have bottom screw mounts).
This allowed me to put a 2.5" ssd and a 2.5" hard drive in the case.
otherwise, it would be pretty tight/impossible to squeeze in 2 full size 3.5" hard drives in the m72e

  • I needed a 2tb hard drive for my new iMac whats the best to work with time machine for around £100

Any suggestions about the best 2 tb hard drive to work with my imac, compatible with time machine for around £100

There is no such thing as "best" and "inexpensive", you either want one or the other but you cannot get both. IMHO I'd recommend OWC's Mercury Elite Pro (www.macsales.com) however because  you are on the other side of the pond you may want to consider a Lacie product. High quality, not cheap but good stuff for the most part.

  • I had a problem with the hard disk on a 2010 macbook pro. Replaced the hard disk with an Hitachi 1TB and when I tried to erase and format It fails with input/output error. Any help much appreciated!

I had a problem with the hard disk on a 13" 2010 macbook pro. Replaced the hard disk with an Hitachi 1TB disk but when I tried to erase and format, it fails with input/output error and at other times saying unable to allocate memory. Any help much appreciated!

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

  • SATA Hard Disk Drives?

Apologizes if this has been asked. Is the 40GB HDD in the latest AppleTV SATA or is it still ATA/IDE? I'm thinking about buying the 40GB version and upgrading it with a 320GB SATA HDD I already have.
    Thanks,
    Kyle

As far as I know the AppleTV hardware hasn`t been changed since they were first released, so it`s still a 2.5" drive on a IDE interface.

If so, Erase it and format it as "Mac OS Extended" (assuming you don't want to use it with a PC ever).

    YES.
Depending on your video card, if you feel like it, you might want to get a dvi-->HDMI adapter
other than that, you should be okay......

  • How to make web pages easier to read?  If I increase the font size web pages look distorted and unusable.  The same goes for mail.  I love the ease of use with a MAC but at 55 I need better sized fonts without distorting the web sites?  Any suggestions?

As you can see I am new to MAC;s so please be  patient with me.

Yes, that made the fonts larger, but I lose viewing the full windows of Safari and Mail, the edges are cut off aand I cannot restore them by click and dragging them fully open again.   I appreciate the quick response, but I still have the same issue of ddistorted webpages and mail.

  • Adding a Old PC hard disk drive as a external drive to my MBP

So around 5 years ago i got the WD-160JB hard disk drive. I want to see all the things i did back then.
I want to be able to connect this WD-160JB drive as a external hard drive to my mac.
What i am wondering is if you can somehow have a cable or something which links the USB from the MBP to the hard disk.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks. Matt

You need a disk enclosure or a docking station.  Consider the Thermaltake Docking Station that fits both laptop (2.5") and desktop drives (3.5").  This is great for upgrading your harddrive and moving everything over easily with the Disk Utilities.
Best Buy has them if you need it soon.  And Best Buy will now price match Amazon!  They don't advertise it, but Amazon is taking too much business away so they had to do something.  You have to ask.  Amazon is already programmed into their registers for price matching.
