Will there be upgrades to leopard for those who own a recent MAC?

just want to know

Usually only for people who purchase a Mac around the time of the Leopard release but don't get it bundled with the computer.

  • Snow Leopard for those who bought Mac's in late August

I just bought a Macbook Pro in August and it arrived the same day Snow Leopard came out. What I want to know is there some promotion where people who bought their systems right before SL came out can get the upgrade for free? If so, how?
    Thanks!

You should be eligible for the Snow Leopard up-to-date program, which will get you a Snow Leopard disc for $9.95.

  • For those who own FCP....

Hi I know this is the iMac board, but my question is if you have Final Cut Pro, and use the iMac 2.1 Ghz (isight) how much RAM did you upgrade to? And if you did upgrade how does it run. Right now I have 512 MB and I was thinking about upgrading to 1.5 GB or 2.5 GB.
So I guess if you use FCP and use the iMac what is your current RAM amount?

FCP will run with 512MB of ram. Just be a tad slow. I would get at least 1GB. So the upgrading configuration you're looking at will suit you fine.
I use FCP on my Rev A iMac. I have 1GB of memory in there and it works pretty well.
    Hope that helps a little,

  • For Those Who Can't Boot After Upgrading To 10.5.6

For Those Who Can't Boot After Upgrading To 10.5.6
(and i am one of those)
how is Apple supposed to make them able to install future fixes and updates
once they finally acknowledge and address this horrible bug?
will they send free bootable CDs with the updates to 10.5.6?

What "Boot ROM version" do you have (check in the system profiler under "Hardware")? If it's not MBP31.0070.B07 or MBP21.00A5.B08, then you will need to update your MacBook Pro's firmware. To do this, you might need to connect an external display and mouse/keyboard, and then run the computer with the lid closed to bypass the laptop's monitor. Then apply the firmware patch and reboot the system. This might also be doable via "Screen Sharing" if you have that enabled and have another mac handy.
The firmware update is here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/macbookproefifirmw areupdate151.html

I foolishly downloaded OS8 on my iPhone 4S. It not only greyed out my wifi button making it impossiblr to use wifi, but bluetooth connection doesn't work either. I reset the phone to factory settings but that did nothing apart from loose all my photos and contacts. OS 8 was still on after too. Apple say it is a problem but the download only brought the fact the hardware was faulty to the fore, but not being under warranty , the repair would cost £166 that I would have to pay. Totally unacceptable. If the problem was known and they knew it would cause problems on older models, why have it bob up on iTUNES for download.
Don;t download it guys, APPLE aren't admitting culpability and it will cost you a fortune to put right!!

  • My iPod touch is a model MB528LL running version 4.2.1.  I would like to download the At Bat 12 App (the $14.99 version) so I can listen to professional baseball games this year.  Will there be an app. available for my iPod?

I went to the link you posted and followed all the steps.  I was thrilled to see that it worked!  I don't recall whether my PC still recognized my iPod Touch as a camera or not, but DEVICES did show up in iTunes and it recognized the name of my iPod Touch.
Now, though, everything is back the way it was.  The PC tells me I have a camera connected via USB and iTunes doesn't even have DEVICES listed in the left-hand column.
I'm wondering if this is the problem:  I had the iPod on until the battery was so "low" that it stopped.  I didn't press and hold the button on top.  In fact, until I read the article you linked to, I didn't even know you could turn the iPod on and off that way.  I would only press it once until the screen turned blank and simply pressed the Home buttom to turn it back on.  Until I read that article, I thought the Home button was the On button.
So now my question is this:  Should I ALWAYS turn the iPod off by pressing and holding the button on top until I see the red slider on the screen?
    Thanks!

  • Some dvi questions for those who really know there stuff!

Hi all, haven't lurked these forums in a few weeks but just had a quick question for those who wanna build up some "points". I'm trying to connect my MBP 15" (1.83ghz) to my Dell LCD 26" T.V. via DVI. Anyhoo, the DVI port on an MBP is a DVI-I (Dual link 24 + 5 pin) fenmale port while my Dell LCD sports a DVI-D (Dual link 24 + 1 pin) female port. Anyhoo, I went to my local Circuit City store and picked up a 6.6ft DVI-D (Single link 18 + 1 pin) male cable to hook both devices up. Should this work? If those have no idea what I'm talking about, I've included a link with a picture of allt he different DVI ports:
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/59/Dvitypes.png/180px-Dvitypes.png
If I haven't explained myself well, please post and I'll do my best to clarify.

Am I missing something? Do you actually have a problem making this work? If the plugs you chose are mechanically compatible (and both are DVI D, dual-link), then there should not be a problem.
Ah. I see the concern. The extra four pins. I believe they make the connector able to supply hybrid DVI-A and DVI-D. The Mac output is hybrid so it can easily be adapted drive a VGA monitor, too.
I think you should be fine.
I have a ViewSonic 1600x1200 LCD monitor with a DVI (single) and it works superbly with the Mac.

  • Will there be an ios update for ipod 2 gen ?

will there be an ios update for ipod 2 gen ?

I doubt it since it has been over a year since Apple released an update for the 2G iPod. A 2G can only go to iOS 4.2.1
    A 1G to iOS 3.1.3.

  • Will there be an X-Fi for PCIe

Well, will there be a X-Fi for PCIe x?
I've got the Shuttle Barebone SN25P and would REALLY like to buy a X-Fi, but there are none with this port. Only the normal PCI port is supported. Please, someone of Creative, tell me if there ever will be a sound card with PCIex support. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
    I WANT THIS SOUNDCARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Excuse bad grammar, I'm from Germany and the English language is sometimes kind of challenging )

@ bratboy: no I don't mean the graphic port PCIe x6, I mean the "new", small PCI port, which is about a quarter of the lenght of the graphic port (PCI express), something like 2 to 3 cm. I thought, this would be the successor of the old PCI port, and thus should not have any problems like Shingo-Y was describing.
't think that creative would hurt themself, because there is a market. Lots of the new mainboards with PCI Express graphic have at least some of the new PCIe x slots, like my Shuttle barebone. And lots of people already have these new mainboards, and I think, lots of people bought this Shuttle SN25P and want a nice sound card, too. And it's not likely, that creative would sell less sound cards, if the only difference is the port you put them into. I know, it would have been a suicidal idea to bring out the X-Fi for PCIex only, they wouldn't have sold that much (as with AGP). There are just not the same circumstances as with the big graphic card suppliers. But there are no other sound cards from any supplier out there with PCIex! There is a market!!! Creative still would sell their sound cards, just not only for the old PCI, but for the new PCIe, too. I mean, if someone wants to buy a sound card from Creative, he doesn't care if its for the old or the new PCIe, he's going to buy this sound card from Creative anyway.
So Creative doesn't lose one customer, but is winning customers who are limited in their choice of sound cards.
It might be an idea to do a collection of signatures to prove, that there are people willing to buy such a sound card. Or at least a survey.
Other thought: Some graphic cards had a so called bridge chip, to convert them from AGP to PCIe and the other way around (Like in the new 7800GS from Nvidia). This shouldn't be hard to implement in a sound card, too. It's just converting the electrical signals. They can just go to Nvidia and ask them how it works. I would actullay be willing to pay a little more for this kind of "customer pleasantness" (sorry about the bad language). If it's a fair price that is. Let's say ten or 5 bucks. (If it's sold in Europe it's going to be doubled anyway, but that's OK)
THERE'S GOT TO BE A WAY!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Will there ever be an update for retina display on InDesign CS6?

I know I'm a little late in the game guys...Didn't know all the details of this retina display business, but I figured it was the way of the future and I should just bite the bullet and get one. I've read everything I could find about InDesign and retina display (of course this was after I bought EVERYTHING...) will there EVER be an update for CS6, or do I have to go get the creative cloud?

    On behalf of Adobe …
Confirming that there will absolutely not be any hi DPI updates for InDesign 8 (CS6) either for Mac or Windows. As Peter indicated, this support was part of a massive code rewrite that went into InDesign 9 (CC) to support 64-bit versions of InDesign and the transition from the so-called Carbon to Cocoa programming frameworks on MacOS.

    No, afraid not.

  • Will there be support in CS4 for the JVC GY-HM700 files?

will there be support in CS4 for the JVC GY-HM700 files? Of course without rendering neccessary?

I own a HM100, which uses the same EX1 codec.  The difference is the HM100 allows you to choose between a MOV and MP4 wrapper.  The MP4 wrapper works great in Premiere CS3 and CS4.(just like the EX1)
The HM700 in stock configuration, only saves in the MOV wrapper, which does not work with CS4.  You have to buy the Available with optional SxS Media Recorder to have the HM700 save in .MP4.
Now there is a codec you can buy - it is not free- that allows you to view the MOV files.  I am not sure that will make it work with CS4.
