Will these work on a Sawtooth G4?

Would a 733 Mhz G4 processor pulled from a Power Mac G4 (Digital Audio) work on a sawtooth? My only concern was the bus speed. I know the 733 Mhz G4s have a 133 Mhz system bus and my sawtooth only has a 100 Mhz frontside bus. Would it matter?

Hi! If it were to work, you are looking at only 550mhz. Given the fact that your machine is a sawtooth, I highly doubt its possible to install successfully that large CPU in there. You would have to get rid of the IDE controller by desoldering it in order to make it fit..
You have two options though.. I would goto www.otherworldcomputing.com and get yourself a nice dual processor, or you could put the sawtooth on ebay and use the money from that(older computers, esp mac hold value nicely) and put it towards a nice Mirror Drive Door dual 1.25 or dual 1.42 system for less than what it would cost for the upgrade processor.
With the mirror drive door models, make sure you get one that has a quiet power supply and if you plan to use classic OS, one that boots directly into OS 9.2.2 - Also, make sure the seller has the actual restore/install cd package, as without this, there is no other way to install OS 9.2.2 successfully.
If you don't use classic, nor have a use for OS 9.2.2, then get a FW800 mirror drive door, or if you need more power for pro apps, a low end G5.

Yes the Mac can read that drive but you would need to Copy the data off of it to the Mac as apposed to Move, which implies Deleting them from the drive as they were transferred from the external to the Mac. Since the Mac can Not Write to NTFS drives it can't Delete anything as that is really a Write operation, IE Making changes to the NTFS formatted drive.
Once you have that Data on Both your New Mac and you Older Windows PC you can format that drive to work on both system.
If you want to and plan on doing that post back and I'll explane how, it is simple but should be done on a Windows PC.
If you only plan on using it on the Mac from now on that is fairly simple also and is done on the Mac, Once you have the files from it stored on the Mac.
Yes you could burn those photos to DVD but that is just a waste of DVDs, you don't need to.

  • Will these work?

I'm looking for cheap parts for my Mac mini to speed it up a bit, so of course I had to check out eBay. I was just wondering though, will this RAM work? ---> http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310019437912
    Thanks.

You might want to look at your activity monitor to see if you'd benefit from more memory, based on what you run. It's on your hard drive in applications/utilities. Look at the system memory tab and specifically at page ins / outs. If page out's are 10%-15%, or greater, of page ins, you can benefit from additional memory. A page out is where the system writes a portion of memory to the hard drive to make room for something else, and it can impact performance if excessive.

  • 366SEclamshell and graphite airport base,will these work w/airport in os10?

Just installed original airport card in a graphite 366se clamshell which is recognized by os10 and 0s9. Hooked up an original graphite airport base station which is not recognized in airport setup assistant. Base powers up and am using new cat5 cable. Do i need to set up with older version of mac os? Would appreciate any help! Thanks

What setup are you using for TCP/IP for the Airport interface on the clam (as in the Network system preference.) Are you using manual setup or using dhcp? If you are using dhcp what ip address is being assigned?
Do you know what the ip address of the graphite is? Could be that your clam and the graphite are on different subnets (ip address-wise) and so the Airport Setup Assistant and Admin Utility might not see it.
The usual default ip address for an Airport is 10.0.1.1 so what you could do is assign your clam an ip address of something like 10.0.1.225 (mask 255.255.255.0, router 10.0.1.1) and see whether you can see it then. Another possibility is to use the Admin Utility, select "Other" and then enter what you think might be the address of teh graphite (try 10.0.1.1) and see if it sees it.
Could be helpful to do a reset of the graphite so that it is set back to known settings. Can't remember directly how to do that but it shouldn't be too hard to find the details under Apple Support.

  • Will a Quicksilver cpu work in a Sawtooth?

I have a chance to get a Quicksilver processor (733) with heatsink and all for pretty cheap, but I don't know if it will even work in my Sawtooth.
Also, what about a cpu from a MDD G4?
    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

    Hi Matt
A CPU from a MDD won't work due to the architectural differences (DDR RAM etc). A CPU from a QuickSilver can be made to work although I believe there are a number of issues. I expect Hussein could provide much more information, but the CPU daughter card from a QuickSilver requires a 12 volt feed to one of the securing screws. Also the bus multipler for the QuickSilver 733MHz processor will be set to 5.5 (5.5 x 133MHz = 733MHz). On a Sawtooth with a 100MHz bus, this would presumably cause the processor to run at only 550MHz. You could change the bus multiplier, but this involves adding and/or removing resistors. I believe there may also be issues with the larger QuickSilver heatsink not fitting properly, although I'm sure Hussein could provide you with more details.
I hope this helps a little.

  • USB to FireWire converter cable, will it work?

There are a number of sellers on auction sites selling USB to FireWire (4-pin) converter cables. Will these work with iMovie in respect of connecting my Samsung MiniDV Digital (tape) camcorder? The seller claims they will, but I am skeptical based on what I've read on the internet - so I thought I'd ask the discussions for their advice/experience...?
FYI I'm using a 13 inch Alu MacBook prior to the inclusion of a FW port...

Despite Niel's great suggestion, the bottleneck is the USB connection into the Mac; even though it's possible to plug a FireWire adaptor into that USB/ExpressCard socket, the ultimate connection (..or combination..) has a USB specification.
USB delivers burst of high speed data, not continuous hi-speed data, which is what FireWire offers, and what miniDV camcorders send out. The camcorder won't be able to make proper contact with the Mac at the far end of the chain, so the computer won't "see" the camcorder, and nor will the camcorder be able to tell the computer "here I am, sending you a digital video-&-audio stream".
The connectors will all physically fit together ..just as you can physically pour paraffin (kerosene) into a car's petrol (gasoline) tank ..but that doesn't mean that the car will actually run with a tank full of kerosene ..or diesel fuel, for that matter.

    Hello, no ice.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
As long as you purchase the GSM model and acquire a Nano-SIM card, you should be able to use your iPad abroad.  Here is some information about this process that you may find helpful.

I am purchasing a laptop with a 4k screen (3200x1800) resolution, will Lightroom work at these levels? what is the highest resolution LR will support?

As Rob has pointed out there is no maximum resolution that LR supports, but performance decreases as resolution increases. I'm using an i7-860 quad core system with a 1920 x1080 (2.1 Megapixel) monitor and LR runs well. A 3200 x1800 (5.8 Megapixel) monitor will require ~2.75 x more processing to render the real-time loupe image in the Develop module. Some people have reported sluggish screen updating when making adjustments in the Develop module with even lower resolution monitors such as 2560x1440. Here's a post that discusses the issue:

After loading Maverick iTunes will not launch.  I get an error code: -45054.  I am the administrator and have no groups or guests.  Sharing options don't fix this.  Also Fetch will not launch, I get error code: SSL error 9807.  These worked perfectly before installing Maverick.  Also everything that loads, all programs, take twice as long to load.  I have MacKeeper and have cleaned and discarded all the garbage.

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows. First, back up all data.
"MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.

  • Will these printers & scanners work?

I've several friends who praise Leopard and urge me to upgrade, but reading the many complaints about non-functioning printers & MFPs worries me since I have a home business, and if I can't print, copy and scan, I'm out of business. So my question is, will these printer work with a dual Mac G5 2.3 silver tower:
HP Laserjet 5025 MFP ( print and scan to email )
    HP Laserjet 1200 ( print )
Epson Stylus Photo R200 ( print both paper and CDs )
    All input gratefully appreciated!

If not fully, they should be supported at least on some basic level. The CUPS printer drivers that come with OS X have drivers for the laserjet 1200 and stylus photo R200. They dont have specific drivers for the 5025 scanner, but those should be available from HP, with leopard support soon if they're not already out with it.

Sorry, NO these will not working your computer. Even if you found a compatible MXM HP graphics card, you would still need to replace the CPU heatsink/fan assembly to one designed for use with the additional GPU.

  • I bought Keurig K cups from BB and my machine says "oops these cups will not work in this machine"

ok so I saw a wonderful deal by Best Buy to get K cups on sale so ordered the amount to get free shipping but when I tried to use them I get a error message on my machine and they will not work in it. I have the newest keurig and wanted to use it for the peach flavored ice tea. I know that BB will not take them back because they are opened. I never saw one thing on the website where it would not work in the Keurig 2.0. Is there any recourse for me? Why is there not something mentioned in the ad that says which ones they will work in? I have no idea what ones of the order will work and if I open them all I cannot return any of them. Can anyone offer any advice?

    Hello gmaof3,
The Keurig 2.0 looks pretty fantastic! As I understand it, Keurig made some changes to what pods will work in the Keurig 2.0. To ensure you have the correct pods that will work in your brewer check for these identifiers:
    ·         K-Cup pods  with Keurig 2.0 Brewing Technology feature a white, gray, or lavender outer ring
    ·         K-Carafe pods with Keurig 2.0 Brewing Technology feature a green dot
If you happen to have received K-Cups that don’t have the Keurig 2.0 Brewing Technology, please feel welcome to visit your local Best Buy to see what options we may have for you under our Return & Exchange Promise. Alternatively, you may also contact Keurig regarding this at 1-866-901-2739. If you should have any questions, please let us know!

  • VM Fusion: will these XP disks work?

I have two Windows XP Home SP1a disks. Only of them says" "Only for distribution with an HP or Campaq PC The other says, "Microsoft Windows XP Critical Security Updates. Each has a barcode with 9 digits. A third disk is the Windows XP pro upgrade with its product key. All disks were used on a compaq laptop I purchased in 2004 and which was recently stolen. Will these disks work with VMFusion on a new Powerbook Pro 2.4 GHz? Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks all for your responses. it turns out I have 3 different PC OS's
    1) a Windows 98 install disk (I think from a Dell I bought several years ago)
    2) XP SP 1a that came with the Compaq plus security updates
    3) XP Pro Upgrade (on the box it says for users of Windows 98, XP Home and others.
Do you think I should start with using the Windows 98, then use the upgrade to XP Pro?
