Will this code to alter the find bar still work in FF29?

This support thread contains code to change the way the find bar looks in firefox 27: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/976166?esab=a&s=&r=3&as=s
Will this code, this method, still work in FF29? I don't really want to 'give it a try' without knowing, because I don't want to mess up my firefox.
Or, how can I get the old find bar back (I think circa FF26)?

I found the addon "GlobalFindBar" to do this.

  • When using Edit Find, I can only type 3 or 4 letters in the Find bar before the letters start disappearing. If I copy/paste a word into the Find bar all the letters will be there. Has anyone else had this problem?

The Find bar opens OK with Edit/Find. I start typing in a word there but it will only allow 3 letters before they disappear and my next keystroke appears. I can copy/paste a whole word or string of words into the Find bar and all the letters remain.

See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Whenever i open Firefox i cant type anything because the "find" bar at the bottom alwayse pops up. How can i remove that or fix this issue?

So like I said, Everytime I open firefox as soon as I open a tab the "find" bar automatically pops up and I cant type. It wont let me close it at all. Ive searched everywhere to see if I can disable it from automatically coming up but came up empty. Ive reset everything back to is "original" settings but that didn't work either.

Have you had this problem for some time or did it just start recently?
This occurs with an empty new tab (Ctrl+t) or with any new tab (e.g., including clicking a link)?
Is the bar labeled Find or Quick Find?
Find: This bar can be opened using Ctrl+f, but obviously you are not typing Ctrl+f.
Quick Find: The shortcut to open this bar is a / character. Firefox also has an option to open the Quick Find bar as soon as you type ''any'' character. (See: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/advanced-settings-browsing-network-updates-encryption#w_accessibility Accessibility options]) But this is turned off by default, and it doesn't sound as though you are typing a character when this happens.
Hmmm... by default, if the cursor is in either bar, it can be closed by pressing the Esc key. But I suppose that isn't working either (or it reopens very quickly).
If you view the Add-ons page, do you have any extensions?

I'm updating from my iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5 and have been 'restoring' for 2 hours now and the progress bar still states I hae 6 hours remaining. Will it really take this long? How long should a restore take? It's a 32gb device. Thanks.

I am having this problem.  At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2.  I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps.  I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them.  The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage.  It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup.  With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up.  The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete.  This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

  • The find bar in edit will no longer open

I'm not sure which Firefox I have, but I use it on my laptop (not an Apple). I frequently use the Find Bar under edit. Yesterday it stopped working...would not open.

Do you still see the Status Bar (View > Status Bar) ?
It is possible that the screen is too high and that the status bar and scroll bar fall off at the bottom.
Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.
If that works then close Firefox to save that setting.

  • I need the find bar to stop matching smart quotes for straight ones.

Some recent update of Firefox caused the find bar to match smart quotes (“ and ”) for the straight quote ("). Additionally, it now matches smart single quotes and apostrophes (‘ and ’) for the straight single quote (').
I need to disable this matching so that a search for a straight quote will only yield a straight quote result. Also, if any other character matching was added, I'd like to disable that too. I need exact results.

Hi Chuck, this could be coincident with the launch of the "per-tab" find bar with its new UI design. However, I didn't see a specific but for the change in the tracking system (Bugzilla).
If this is a major pain point for you, to help track it down, could you do a comparison between Firefox 24 and Firefox 25? You can download the Portable builds of old versions of Firefox and run them without disturbing your main installation of Firefox. (However, you might not be able to run more than one at a time.) Those two would be here:

Does it work the way you want in either of those?

  • As of Firefox 21,pressing Ctrl+F slides in the find bar into view. What should I change in about:config to revert it back and make it popup instantaneously?

The question pretty much sums up what I want to ask. Thank you very much for any and all help.
I know this is not the place to rant but I think this needs to be said - Why do you(firefox devs) guys keep on changing things that were perfectly fine in the first place? For example, making the find bar slide in and out of view may "look cool" but it consumes more system resources(albeit very very little) than making it appear instantaneously(the way it was previously).

  • How do you get the Find bar to not automatically close when a page is reloaded or when moving to another tab?

Not sure if this is a bug or a feature. Is there any way to get it to work like previous versions? I spend way too much time re-enabling the Find bar over and over.

    You don't.
Clicking on the player window will hide the controllers but clicking the arrow keys will make it appear again.
    Use QuickTime Player 7.6.6 instead.

  • How do you alter the bookmarks bar on an iMac?

How do you alter the bookmarks bar on an iMac?

Safari bookmark bar is viewed by clicking on the book icon on the far left side of the bar, and selecting the Bookmarks Bar Collection.
Drag bookmarks and folders into the Bookmarks bar Collection or directly into the bookmarks Bar if you want them to appear there.   You can edit them right on the spot by clicking on them once.
If you mean the Dock, the translucent bar that starts at the bottom of the screen (which you can put on the side of the screen), just drag items to the left side of the Dock's divider that are applications you wish to keep a shortcut to.  Folders to the right side.   When you minimize a window with the yellow control, it minimizes to the same side of the divider as the folders and documents you might drag to the Dock.   Note, the Dock is only a shortcut.  Many mistake it for a folder.  It is not.     If you want your application to be dragged out of a DMG you just double clicked, drag it to your Hard drive -> Applications folder.  Dragging it to the Dock will only make it inaccessible when you dismount the image.  And when you trash the image, the application is gone.  Only if you store it in your Hard drive -> Applications folder is it safe.
If you mean the Finder window left sidebar just drag items into it between the icons already there. Your Finder menu's Preferences allows you to select default folders and devices to show there.

  • What is the hotkey to close the Find bar?

After I use Find (Control-F) and move the text cursor to elsewhere, the only direct way I know to get rid of the Find bar that pops up at the bottom is to click the "x" on it. I would prefer to use a hotkey; but I cannot find one for that. ESC works if the text input cursor is still in the Find window. Thus you can do it when the cursor is not there to start with by hitting Control-F first; but that is non-intuitive and slightly more cumbersome than a direct hotkey. There are hotkeys for lots of things (including many redundant ones), so this would appear to be an oversight. Hopefully, it is myself who is doing the overlooking.
(Why doesn't the spell-checker like "hotkey", a word that occurs frequently on the Mozilla Web pages? Surely it has made its way into the vernacular by now.)

You write, "For a single hot key Esc is actually a single key. " That's true, but it does not work '''unless''' the cursor is in the Find text field. I was explicitly seeking a hotkey that would work when the cursor was not there. Based on what else you have said, there is not one. My question admits no answer - aside from the 2-key sequence I mentioned. I must confess that it is no big deal. I would click the "Solved It" button if there were one beside the last message '''I''' posted. If you want to echo that 'solution' back, I will click the button.

  • How to put the find bar (Ctrl+F) at the top of Firefox instead of the bottom

My search function or find function bar or whatever it's called (Ctrl+F) to find words in a document has always been at the top of the page of Firefox, always. But ever since I let them update me to the most recent one, FIrefox 25 or something, it is now at the bottom and I am really saddened by this.
I don't mind that they changed the design, but for heaven sakes all I'm asking is you move it back to the top or tell me how. I'm not looking for added nifty doodads or add-ons or large segments of code to try to fix this, I just want you to move it to the top instead of bottom.

I know it's at the top are you sure when you say "always" at the bottom? Are you talking in terms of 2009? 2008? Previous years? I know it's always been at the top and I'm not one for addons, I have stylish and imagezoom for the past 4 years, and have recently added adblock plus and 'grab and drab' to the mix this year. Of course find bar was still at the top then.
It was at the top and the actual place where you type the word was to the top right, god I wish I'd screencapped it because now it's been 3 weeks since this has happened and I'm doubting myself what it originally looked like...
EDIT: Never mind there was a user styles type formula to put the find bar to the top
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/975514
I'll try it out for a few days and if it's working fine I'll consider the problem a-ok.

  • How can I get around the find bar no longer being shared between tabs in the latest version of Firefox?

Previously, one could open a new tab and the find bar would remain at the bottom of the page from the previously opened tab. So, for example, I could search for something in a tab I open, open a new tab and the same find bar would be at the bottom so I could search the new website for the same thing. Any way around this?

    Hi,
This function is no longer officially in Firefox, however this addon replaces it: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/find-in-tabs
    Hope this helps!

I purchased the newest software update for my ipod touch 1st generation and it is saying it is it will now begin download but the status bar doesn't even appear? How can I start the download?

Well first off you shouldn't have had to pay for a download (just an assumption from the word "purchased".
If you are trying to install iOS 5 on your iPod touch, it won't work they arent compatible. I suggest checking what version of software you are trying to install and posting it in this forum so people can have a better understanding.

  • How to see number of matching results in the find bar?

Hi, can I configure Firefox to include the number of matching results on the page in the find bar? It's one of the things I appreciate in other browsers (helps give context / get a feel for relevance / make quick decisions)
Or is there a lightweight add-on to do the same?
    Thanks :)

I haven't tried this, but the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/findbar-tweak/ FindBar Tweak] extension advertises "Total hits and current hit counter in the findbar".
