Will this extended desktop idea work?

I'm using a Dell VGA monitor with my 933 Quicksilver PowerMac G4, and I'd like some more screen area to work with. Since I don't want to spend much, I'm thinking of picking up a used Apple cinema display with an ADC connector to use as a second monitor. Can I just connect it via my Mac's ADC port to get an extended desktop running across both displays, or is there something else I'd need as well?
I'm also wondering about a post I saw on this forum suggesting that the Nvidia Force4 MX card loses the ability to support dual displays under OS X 10.5. Since I'm running Leopard, I'd love to know if that's true!
Many thanks for your help. Here's the rundown from my system profiler:

On my 2008 MacBook I am running 10.6.8 with Microsoft Office 10.1.  Will this version of Office work if  I upgrade to Mountain Lion?

No! Even Office 2004 will not run under Lion and newer. You can check out http://www.libreoffice.org/ and iWorks applications to replace Office.
Check your applications for Mavericks compatibility here:  http://roaringapps.com/
Note: a new version of Office for Mac is expected later this year or early next year. Buying Office 2011 now is buying old software. There will be no credits for older versions. The next version of Office will be subscription. This is the best option I know currently for subscription. This includes a free update to the new version when it's released.

I doubt if it would work- very few Mac products are designed to be compatible with PC devices.

will my apple desktop keyboard work on ipad 2 as well?

Hi, I think so, I connected an apple wireless/bluetooth keyboard to mine once, it worked, but it wasnt worth it. Once I connected it I used it for a little bit, when i was done, i had to go through the hustle of trying to reconnect it back to my mac. Does it work :Yes. Is it worth it : No.

  • Airplay display issues: "extend desktop" not working properly. Secondary display continues to mirror.

Whenever I turn my airplay display on and set it to "extend desktop," my secondary display (TV) continues mirroring my mac book pro (hereinafter MBP). It doesn't fully mirror my MBP, but my secondary display registers every time I switch between my desktop 1 and my full screen apps. Moreover, When I do switch to a fullscreen app on my MBP, I get a blank (blue-ish) screen on my TV.
    Any solutions!?!
Additionally, "extended desktop" for my Airplay display worked properly when Mavericks was first released.

    Try this:
Click on the Apple TV Icon on the top toolbar
Then, select "Mirror Built in Display" instead of extend desktop
In the same menu under "Match Desktop size to:" select "Apple TV" (or keep it on "built in display if that works"
This solved a similar problem for me.

  • When  will this cr*p IDe get fixed?? !!

    Hi Creator Team,
Even after all this time the IDE still performs absymally.
(I am writiing this after trying to run project and getting gery screen!!)
Still having to shut down via task manager about 10 times a day !!
Its such a pity the IDE takes away from a functionality rich app.
    Regards,
    LOTI

I haven't heard of the Visual Web Pack yet. Is it basically Creator embedded in NetBeans?
Yesterday I had to shutdown the task processes as the IDe has just hung. And that was only trying to run the porject. I have a top of the range dev pc with 2gb. I have adjusted all the xms settings in domain.xml,etc.
I have been going on about the IDE for over a year now. Whilst the latest releases are a massive improvement, there is still that sluggishness and unpredictablity of whether it will last one hour without giving me problems.
Still for all its faults, it is still a great tool.
    Regards,
    LOTI

Thanks in advance. If this is a grid control installation, are you aware of the licensing implications of installing an enterprise edition database on a 4 cpu system?
is it just enterprise manage? nevertheless there is still a license implication to consider. Will this be a production environment?

  • Apple tv patch 6.1.1 extended desktop not working

My apple tv just upgraded to patch 6.1.1(6698.99.19)  from 6.1(6698.99.19)
I have an Ipad Mini2 which I normally use to view movies on my tv.
I will select the apple tv, (with air play) and play the movie using Moliplayer on the Ipad mini2.
I was able to play from a mac pro I have in my office if I wanted to.
This used to work great as the apple remote controlled the movie and you could set the ipad mini2 down on the desktop.
After the patch, the above does not work. What happens, is the movie is not played.. however an audio icon pops up on the apple-tv
and you can hear the movie audio.
So after this patch, you can only view the movie with mirrored desktop selected after this latest update.
Both the apple mini2 and the mac pro produce the same result.
    Additional steps..
I have taken the apple tv and used Itunes to re-install the software with a USB cable. Unfortunately .the same result.
I assume I have a bug I am reporting that can be logged.
Additionally. is it possible to put back the older version of the software so the apple TV will work as before?
    Thanks

I have the exact same problem aswell. Did the update from 6.1 to 6.1.1 on my Apple TV 3rd gen. When using my iPhone 5 showing pictures och videos from my camera roll it works just fine over Airplay. So the problem is not the transmission. When playing a video from my Synology NAS using VLC for iOS nothing happens on my Apple TV like it did before the update!  Annoying
    Thanks

  • Will this Time Capsule setup work?

I am considering purchasing a Time Capsule, but I have a unique situation and I want to make sure it will work as I expect.
Currently I have AT&T DSL, and use a Linksys wireless router for my minimal home network (one laptop). Right now everything works with no problems, but I am looking for more functionality.
I have an old three story house, office on the third floor, but bad phone line to the office. The problem is in the wall so it would be expensive to fix, OK for voice. DSL comes in on the first floor where my main stereo is located.
I want the Time Capsule for extra storage, back-up, but also wireless printing to the office.
I am thinking of getting an Airport Express for the first floor and hooking it up to the DSL Modem as the primary wireless point and to the stereo w/ AirTunes. The Time Capsule would be placed in the office connected to the printer and extra hard drive, but it will be serving as a wireless bridge(?), not connected directly to the DSL modem. Will I still get the full functionality from the Time Capsule, or will something be missing?
Also I have to run a long wire from the phone jack on the first floor to the stereo, would it be better for the long wire to be the phone line, ethernet cable, or the audio connection?

In principle it should work, but ...
    • I am not sure if you can extend the WLAN between a LinkSys and the APE; maybe you want to borrow one and test this first!
    • if it is not working, you might want to consider replacing the LinkSys with either an AP express or extreme (depending on the wall construction - wood or stone)
    • remember that the extra disc at the AP extreme that you are describing, is likely not to show up in time machine !
If you can, I would go for 1 AP extreme and 2 AP express, so in each floor you have a connectino - this is probably still cheaper than ripping up walls.
    Good luck
    Martin

  • Will this ViewSonic LCD Monitor work w/G4 MDD?

I don't know enough about screen resolution to know whether this particular ViewSonic LCD monitor will work with my G4 MDD. The G4's video card has an ADC connector and a DVI connector. The monitor I'd like to get, which uses a DVI cable, is the ViewSonic VX1932wm-LED 19-Inch WLED-Backlit Energy Efficient LCD Monitor. I read an earlier post here that ViewSonic monitors will work with Macs. The specs for this monitor are at:
    http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX1932wm-LED-19-Inch-WLED-Backlit-Efficient/dp/t ech-data/B002R0JJY4/ref=deasmtd
    I appreciate any help. Thanks!

I have the slightly larger VX2235wm which is 22 inches, and the same video card as you on my MDD. I am satisfied with its performance.
The monitor has separate VGA and DVI input ports. The max widescreen res on my MDD is 1680x1050. I usually run at 1440x900 because my eyes aren't what they once were.
I've gotten higher resolution on the same monitor by connecting it to my MacBook Pro via DVI. Can't remember what the numbers are exactly but I know it's larger than the 1680x1050 on my MDD. The notebook has a newer graphics chipset and 128MB VRAM, so that's not a surprise.
As an aside, I played with both the VGA and the DVI sides of the monitor. I found I have more options for smaller resolutions if I use the DVI-to-VGA adaptor that came with the MDD and connect to the VGA side of the Viewsonic.. I keep the DVI cable attached but tangling over the back of the desk so I don't have to rummage so much when I need to connect the MacBook Pro. It works fine on the DVI cable. As long as I turn off the MDD before connecting the cable, leaving both lines running to the monitor has caused no problems.

  • Will this usb/firewire card work under OSX jaguar?

here is the link to it. I know it says windows but could it possibly work on mac?
    http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3995178

    Vstream,
When you hear the startup chime, two things can happen that might give the appearance the 'book has shut off.
    1. After the chime, the Wallstreet goes through a memory test and nothing appears to be happening. This test can take up to 45 seconds with a lot of RAM. After the self-test, the display lights up and the OS begins to load. This test does NOT run through a restart, only a cold start. If you hear the startup chime, let the 'book sit for a few minutes and see if anything happens. Also listen for the spinning of the HD below the 'delete' key; if it is still running, the 'book is still ON.
    2. When running OSX, the Wallstreet has a peculiarity where if the power manager has lost all power, the 'book will start up to a dark display and/or wake to a dark display. The only fix for this condition is to boot to a pre-OSX CD (any will do); this will correct a problem with the power manager. The power manager can lose power if you have no working main battery plus the power adapter is unplugged...then the internal rechargeable PRAM battery runs down.
I would try this: Make sure the 'book is OFF by unplugging the power adapter and removing the main battery. Open the CD tray by pushing an opened paperclip into the little hole next to the button and load your pre-OSX Classic CD. Connect the power adapter, then press the power button and hold down the 'c' key; if no startup chime, reset the power manager, then press the power button again while pressing the 'c' key.
If it starts to the CD, open the Startup Disk in Control Panels under the Apple menu, select OSX, save it by closing the control panel, then click restart in the Special menu and see if it will boot to OSX.
Edit: Make sure all peripherals and PC cards are removed.

  • Will this SATA hard drive work in my PB?

My PB is the 1.67Ghz model. Last one made before MacBook Pro came into being.
I see it has an ATA Ultra drive...wondering if a SATA will work in it, like the one below?
    HITACHI HTS723225L9A360 / 0A57546 Travelstar 5K320 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5 inch internal notebook hard drive

No, no SATA drive can be used in any Powerbook. You need an ATA/IDE drive.

  • I have a macpro tower 1,1 which I want to give to a friend in France where the current is 220. Will this US purchases computer work on 220?

I have a macpro tower 1,1 which I want to give to a friend in France where the current is 220. Will it work on 200?

Right idea, but wrong name for it.
Older power supplies took the raw AC as it came out of the wall and ran that through a transformer -- but the transformer had to be really big and heavy. Then pull Voltages off that and rectify and filter them for the various output Volatges.
A switching power supply is one that uses a very high power transistor to "chop up" or "switch" the input power into a lower Voltage AC wave inside, then steps that up or down through a more modest transformer and rectify and filter it to provide the outputs. It weighs quite a bit less, and is more efficient as well.

  • Question about XPe, will this version of embedded work with SCCM 2012 R2

I was hoping someone has deployed XPe using 2012 R2 OSD. We have a image that is created by a vendor, they build our POS systems using ghosting (.gho) I have now been tasked to build a imaging process using their image and deploy using SCCM. Reading through
various blogs and looking at this a bit myself it doesnt look fun using any version prior to WES 2009. Does anyone have any ideas for me to get started. I havent worked with XPe....
    Thank you

    1. Create a task sequence which installs and captures an image of a standard WES client
    2. Deploy the captured image using a task sequence which also configures it and installs additional software
    3. Enable the write filter (FBWF in our case) after installation and configuration completes
Anyway, some SCCM steps should not be supported in WES, you need to test first.

  • Will this ram or memory work with my "Specific" Imac G5 powerpc 2.0 ghz?

Once again in a quick need to get some ram I let the idiot at fry's talk me into getting this particular ram for my Imac model# M9845LL/A G5 20 inch powerpc model the 2nd model. I bought this ram its the "Corsair" model# VS1GB400C3 Here is a link to a photo of it. Will it be compatible with my imac I didnt put it in yet as I was fearful of it causing a problem. I swear I tried everything to tell the sales guy it was for a IMac and that its picky. So any out there can tell me if this memory is okay for my actual "Model#" of my imac?
    http://www.buy.com/search/q/querytype/home/qxt/home/dclksa/1/VS1GB400C3.html
I really appreciate anyones help that really knows for sure the compatibility with my actual specific imac model above. Thanks.

Here is a link to the specs on the corsair memory I got sold by the salesman. I probably should have not listened to him. But I sort of did because I called the apple store and they Geniuse guy told me he has stuck all kinds or types of ram in my type of imac and they work.. But now I am starting to wonder because of some posts I have seen.
