Will this fit our needs?

We are a local startup hospice in Arizona.
We currently need about 9 Macs networked together. Services that must be supported: file sharing, internet, email, calendar, iChat, and printing.
We are looking at 6 iMac's, 2 MacBook's, 1 Mac Pro, 1 Airport. Does 1 Mac Pro have the ability to handle this load? In the future we would like to add more desktops, how many can a Mac Pro handle by itself? What's the best configuration for the Mac Pro? Is there a better choice for a server than a Mac Pro? Budget is not much of an issue.
Thanks,
Michael

You will need to setup Open Directory to use the iCal Server. Your Mac Pro would be the Open Directory master. From what I have read, it is a very good idea to have a 2nd OS X Server to act as an Open Directory backup. I have not used Open Directory yet, but I thought it would be worth mentioning this.

I had a 640GB HDD in my Early 2008 Macbook and it was just too much it would always freeze up the computer a bit for only a few seconds but ya. Then I realized that it was the size of the HDD that was causing it since the Early 2008 Macbook models can only handle a MAX od 500GB while the Early 2008 Macbook Pros could have a MAX of 640GB (Lucked out there!) lol But ya the Early 2008 Mocbooks can only handle a MAX HDD size of 500GB and that's it!! lol

  • Can someone confirm if this will work for our needs?

I downloaded and installed the Acrobat 9 'free 30-day trial' version to confirm whether this software will do what we need for a given requirement before purchasing it but the functions that I need to test are inactive in the trial version.
We need to be able to:
Distribute blank or partially completed forms to external contacts who can open the files without needing to purchase software. (no problem)
External contacts must be able to add attachments or paste screen-shots and photos into the form, fill-in fields and submit the form back to our e-mail address. (not sure)
We must be able to distribute the (partially-completed) returned forms internally for mark-ups and/or approvals and be able to track their progress. (not sure)
Some completed forms will need to be returned to the external contacts, where they must be able to open and print the forms. (I think so)
We need to be able to collect and sort and filter the forms based upon form field inputs. (not sure)
The information in these forms is security-sensitive, so we would like to manage the information locally, not on Adobe.com.
It looks like we can add attachments to the files, but I can not test how it works because this function is disabled for the trial version.
I am also not able to test the sorting/filtering/tracking of forms. I believe this is done using the ‘Distribute’ and ‘Collect’ functions where returned files are ‘collected’ in a master file. The trial version does not allow me to distribute the form, so I can not create the master file to see what it does.
I called customer support to ask about how it works but he would not answer my questions unless we purchase the software.
The descriptions of the software on the website sound like it is possible to do what we need, but I can’t tell for sure, and I don't want to buy it unless all of our requirements can be met somehow.
Can anyone explain to me how this works and let me know if it will do what I need?  Is there another product we should be looking at?

Since no one has given a go at an answer, I will try some. I am surprised that things are grayed out in Acrobat. If you create the form in Designer (the FORMS menu), then you can no longer modify it in Acrobat. That may be one issue you have. The modification can still be done if you do the form in Acrobat using the form tools uner the TOOLS menu.
For your questions: We need to be able to:

    1. Yes, that is not an issue.
    2. This is an advanced feature that requires current versions of Reader. At least I think photo clip capability has been added -- you will have to wait for others for a confirmation. The form can be filled in and sent back to you. There are 2 aspects to be aware of. If you submit the form, not just the data, then you are limited by the license agreement in quantity based on seciont 15 of the license (available online at Adobe.com). Also, you mention sensitive data. That would normally eliminate e-mail submission right up front due to the lack of security for sensitive data in e-mail. E-mail submission also has problems on many machines due to the client e-mail configuration. You are best to use a web script for submission of the data only (eliminates the license issue that requires saving the form).
    3. I am not sure of an answer on this one. I think the answer is at least partially yes.
    4. Once you get the form data back, you can import it into the form and save the form with the data for sending it back.
    5. Collecting the data is the best manner for the collection on the web with the capability of adding the data to a database or other manipulation. I think the FDF toolbox can send the data directly to a database.
My answers are not complete, but at least they give you a start on your thoughts. There are many here who are form experts and should have no problem answering the questions, once they have time. Just wait a bit.

  • If we switch from Time Warner to AT&T, our e-mail address(es) will also change. How will this affect our use of Firefox? Will we have to re-register?

We intend to rid ourselves of anything TimeWarner. AT&T will probably be our next stop.
If our e-mail addresses change, do we have to re-register with all things "Firefox"?
What changes should we prepare to handle?

If you have e-mail thru Time Warner servers, they may be shut down if you
cancel them. Check with them to be sure.<BR><BR>
If your e-mail changes, you should go to '''every site''' that has your profile and
change the e-mail they have on record.<BR><BR>
While using the e-mail service of a provider is good to have, what happens
when you no longer use that provider? A good thing to do is to check out
and of the '''free e-mail providers''' that are around. With them, you don't have
to worry about keeping a provider just for the mail box.

  • Will this fit my Mac

I will upgrade my Harddrive but I don't know if this one Seagate Momentus SpinPoint ST1000LM024 1 TB will work?
    I got a Macbook Pro 13" medio 2009 150 GB.

No, capacity will have no effect on your MBP with the only exception that you will be able to store more data.
The only consideration you should contemplate is your backup strategy.  If you use Time Machine, you really need a HDD that is at least the same size as the internal HDD in your MBP.   This may require that you order a HDD for that application.
    Ciao.

  • Will this destroy our passwordless SSH setup?

    OS version: Solaris 5.10
We have a 2 node Production RAC environment on Machines A and B . Everyday we want to move some files from A to a backup server called C. Our FTP ports are disabled due to a security policy. Only SCP will work.
SCP doesn't work with passwords. I need to set up passwordless SSH between A and C. So, I need to create a new authorized_keys file in C? What should i do in Machine A side? It already has a file called
authorized_keysfile which contains 'keys' from nodes A and B. Should i create a new authorized_keys file with a different file name like
    authorized_keys2 in both machines (A and C) ?

No need to wipe the existing configuration - simply append the public key from node A to the authorized keys file on node C. You should already have an id_rsa.pub on the A node in the user's .ssh directory. Just copy that to node C, and append the contents to the authorized_keys on node C for the user you're connecting as (don't replace the contents). Just be sure that you use the existing key and do NOT re-generate keys using ssh-keygen, as that will wipe out your existing keys and break the ssh between Node A and Node B.
That assumes the user will be the same across servers - if it's not (i.e., using "oracle" on node A and "backupguy" on node C), then you'll just need to put oracle's id_rsa.pub file from node A in the authorized_keys of backupguy on node C. In addition, with different users across nodes, you'll need to specify a user:
    scp filename backupguy@nodec:/path/to/backup/files
    Should be that simple!

  • What version of Adobe Media Server would fit our needs?

Hello. We are considering doing HTTP video streaming on our intranet. We have approximately 500 employees and would want to be able to stream approximately 10 - 50 one-way connections at one time. What version of Adobe Media Server would you recommend to support this?
After reading more about streaming, we would probably want to support the progressive download method.

But it can't create PDF files...

  • Will this fit in my white poly macbook?

Hi i am upgrading my white poly 2.1 GHz MacBook. I have a 120gb hdd, and want to make it a 500GB.
Will the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500 GB fit in my MacBook?
    Thanks

As long as it's a 2.5" SATA notebook drive that is not higher than 9.5 mm it will fit in your computer.

  • Will this fit on a 2011 MBP 13inch ?

500GB 2.5" Western Digital 'Scorpio BLACK' 7200RPM SATA 9.5mm Notebook HD 16MB Cache.
Is it possible to replace the stock hard drive with this hard drive in a MBP 13inch.

I originally purchased a WD Scorpio Black 7200750GB (WD7500BPKT) and the vibrations were very noticeable. I had to exchange it for a Hitachi. I can't stress how noticeable the vibration of this drive were as ompare to the original stock 5400 RPM drive.
I ended up with a Hitachi 7k500 7200RPM 500GB (HD20500 IDK/7K) drive and have been very happy with it so far. Vibration is consistent with the original stock 5400 RPM drive (which is virtually non-existent) and the speed increase was very noticeable. Battery-life does not appear to be affected.
Another contender was the Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid 7300RPM 75-GB, which I would have tried next if I wasn't satisfied with the Hitachi.

Second. Will my old hard drive fit in some sort of box so I can use it as an external hard drive?

    Your G5 is 8x AGP.

  • Some  games ask for our apple ID and password. Will it compromise our apple password?

To play some games installed from the app store, they ask for our apple ID and password. Will this compromised our appleID and password?

There is no featured tab in my iTunes store. . . and everywhere it shows me signed in. I had downloaded an app for my mother on HER ipad, and that is the only app I have done for her. It shows up on my phone, and now I cannot update any of my apps. I uninstalled that app on my phone, but when I want to update ones I have installed on my phone with my appleid, she keeps showing up.

  • Will Captivate 3 meet our needs?

I work within a training and development department, and have
been asked to research Captivate 3. We do a variety of training
including soft skills (leadership, communication, presentation
skills, etc.) and some "harder" skills. We want to create online
supplements to our instructor led courses. We rarely train on
systems (e.g., how to use a learning management system, a
time-keeping system, etc). We're Adobe fans, and recently attended
a session on Captivate given by a trainer in a different division.
That individual was using an older version of Captivate, and it was
suggested that if we wanted to do training that focused on
non-system skills, perhaps another Adobe product would do a better
    job.
I thought I present my question to the Captivate 3 pros (you
:-) and get your input. If we want to have supplemental training on
topics such as giving presentations, diversity, leadership, etc.,
will Captivate 3 best suit our needs? What specific experiences in
this arena have you had? Are there other Adobe products better
    suited to our needs?
    Thanks so much,
    Ed

    Hi Ed,
I'd certainly recommend considering Captivate if you are
developing e-learning materials in which you'd like to include
examples of applications, movies, audio instructions, etc.
However, I think Captivate is a little restrictive if you
want to use your developed materials like you'd use PowerPoint to
develop and show presentations. There are many reasons... The
materials in Captivate do not scale "full screen" (well) without
changing your resolution (PowerPoint tends to handle this nicely).
It is also rather expensive to develop using the tools vs.
something that presumably most people have on their computers
already (PowerPoint). There is a bit of a learning curve with
Captivate (as there is with PowerPoint with some of the more
advanced functions). Adobe does sell an plugin/addon for PowerPoint
(Presenter) that may be nice for you too, though I think it is now
packaged with other software. You can read about it
    here.
Captivate presentations also do not work as well with
"remotes" you'd commonly use for presenting. There are some
workarounds with Captivate, but PowerPoint makes this very easy.
My recommendation would be to look at what you are going to
be creating and using the presentations for. It really depends on
what you'll be using them for.
Do a little research - try downloading the demo of Captivate
and see how it works for you...
    Good luck,
    David
