2007ish IMAC upgraded to Snow Leopard, almost not functioning at all...
I have an Imac 2006/7 I upgraded to snow leopard and it has been froze up ever since. Called Apple, they said buy RAM I did, installed it. Still freezes. After trying to click around I eventually get a message "Your Mac OS x disk has no more space available for application memory" To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using. Closing windows and removing files from your start up disk, will also help" Any thoughts?

Recently attended excellent workshop about the Fine Art of Printing with R Mac Holbert and John Paul Caponigro. They indicated printing using iMac computers was difficult. I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now print output quality is so poor that the results are totally usable.
A call to Epson support on December 9th was of no help.
Is there a workaround for this problem? Thanks so much.Re

calibrate your screen and use icc profile from printer / scanner manufacturer

I upgraded rhe OS and noticed the wireles connectivity gets dropped frequently. I initially suspected that the router was bad and replaced it.

Mavericks upgrade from Snow Leopard broke boot camp. Help!
Since Apple made the newest version of OS X free, I decided to upgrade my 2010 MacBookPro from Snow Leopard. The installation seemed to go fine, but after the installation, I can't boot into my Bootcamp / Windows partition. From what I have read so far, others have experienced this issue upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion because the recovery partition apparently messes up something fragile between the MBR (Master Boot Record) and the GPT (GUID Partition Table). I'm not sure if that's what's going wrong here or not.
When I attempt to repair /dev/disk0s4 via the GUI Disk Utility, I get the following details:
Verify and Repair volume “disk0s4”

Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: 6e0020
Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.

Well, I can't mount the partition to copy off my files, and I just want to be able to go back to using my windows partition normally. So I started Googling and found several different threads, but so far I'm a few hours into trying to get my system back, without a clue as to what the right fix is.
Upgrading the OS on one partition of a HDD shouldn't completely break another partition. Is my case just a freak accident, or is this a serious flaw in the upgrade process? Sifting through 250GB of data (1/2 my laptop drive) is going to take some of these tools a while... I'm not a happy customer today.
Aside from spending upwards of 12 hours reinstalling Windows and the dozens of other applications and data files from backups and recovering all the files that I can, does anyone know of any tools that can recover the lost partition should I find it? I'm going to leave testdisk running over the disk while I sleep to try and find filesystems.I had Windows 7 64-bit installed, but the version is irrelevant. The problem here is that *something* Apple's installer did damaged my working computer. The fact that it damaged others as well and apparently hasn't been fixed since the release of Mountain Lion is very disappointing. Boot camp is a supported Apple product, and we pay a premium for Apple's computers so we should expect better than for an upgrade to blithely destroy our data and tools leaving us to spend days restoring. That's no upgrade. It's a minefield. I'm happy if some good comes from my sharing and it helps others make better decisions than to trust the installer not to screw up their week. Make sure you back up your whole disk image before installing. The upgrade is only free if your time is worthless.
I'm still looking for an easy fix to this problem. The disk scanning software I'm running now is taking a long time to search through the 500GB HDD for information. I fear that the addition of the recovery partition wiped out my NTFS partition's file system entirely. It's inevitable that I haven't backed up all my stuff and that I have lost some amount of data in addition to my time. -
No synching after upgrade to Snow Leopard
Just had my iMac upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and now neither my iPhone4, iPod Touch or iPad won't appear in the devices list. iPhoto downloaded a pic I'd taken using my iPhone so it seems the USB port works, but it seems to be a one-way connection.

I want to upgrade to Lightroom 5, but I'm concerned about compatibility with my 2008 intel Core 2 Duo iMac with only 4G of Ram. Will I be able to run Lightroom 5 okay if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion? What will happen to the applications that aren't 64-bit compatible? Also the Eye-one Display 2 colorimeter to calibrate the monitor will not run on Lion, so that will be an expensive upgrade to an i1DisplayPro. Is the upgrade important enough to offset the expense? I have an Epson R2000 printer. Will there be problems with the drivers if I upgrade to Lion? It would be great to hear from other mac users who are also photographers and who print their own photos.

Looking at http://www.everymac.com/ even the earliest 2008 iMac was fully 64 bit, even though Boot Camp doesn't support 64 bit Windows on that machine. -

You have entirely too little free space on the boot drive, for best performance it's best to have hard drives only 50% filled max and never more than 80% filled.

Why is my computer slow?
If you upgrade and it doesn't go right or slows the machine down you might need to erase and install, which all your programs will have to be reinstalled from original sources and files from backup.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
If you can't do this, then hire a local PC/Mac specialist.
Do not upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 on that older machine, it will slow down and you will lose all your PPC based programs.
Leave the Lions for a brand new machine with a SSD drive. -

When downloading yosemite to upgrade from snow leopard (10.6.8) the download stops partway through and appears to have overloaded the internet, causing me to have to restart the modem.I have an Imac 8,i with 4gb of ram, which is supposed to support yosemite. Anyone else having this problem?
I am not sure it is the modem, but I use a Webstar by scientific atlanta provided by the local dsl.

Hi I am using OSX 10.4.1 Tiger on my IMAC and I am wanting to upgrade to Snow Leopard but I am concerned if my existing software will still work on Snow Leopard as when I upgraded my laptop from snow leopard to Lion so that I could upgrade to ICloud none of my software works as it says it is 'powerpc' version and Lion does not support - is this the same in Snow Leopard.
Packages I am concerned about are Illustrator CS2, Indesign CS2, Quark Xpress 6.5 and Photoshop CS 2 and 7Lion/101.7 System requirements

You can upgrade direct from 10.6.8 to 10.8 Mountain Lion without going through 10.7 Lion with the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody. The Model 5,1 will probably run 10.9 Mavricks when it comes out.
10.8 Mountain Lion is a download from the App Store, the price is $19.99.
Mountain Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.

Also Mountain Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mountain Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications. -

here are some nice 'Myths and Facts' about Intel Macs and BootCamp http://refit.sourceforge.net/myths/
Bottom line: while not exactly needed for installing Windows on an Intel-based Mac, the BootCamp Assistant 'streamlines' the process with a nice GUI (no need for 'cryptic' Terminal commands).
Mac OSX as of now (10.5 Leopard and above) plus the uptodate firmware for Intel-Macs already include everything needed to install and boot Windows.
Deleting or reformating an OSX partition does not affect the Windows partition.
However a repartitioning of course does, if the Windows partition is on the same harddisk.
But even a repartitioning of any other harddisk (ones that not have the Windows partition on them) does not affect the Windows partition.
Did that myself when adding/upgrading the harddisks in my Mac Pro.
Nonetheless, when 'fumbling' with harddisks and partition structure I always have backups of my important files at hand.
