Will this program work for what I need?

I have a large number of 8mm & super 8 videos that I have captured on an external hard drive. As they are faded to one degree or another I would like to see if I can bring back the color and lighten etc. I talked with Adobe sales and was assured that this is the program to do just that but I thought a second opinion would be in order. The first sales person said that Permier elements in conjunction with Photoshop would work fine but when I called back with another question I was told no that that was really just a very basic program and that I would not be happy with the results. Please give some input and if there are other suggestions I would appreciate it as well.

PrPor can certainly do most of what you want/need. Some of this will depend on your Assets. I hope that when you did the telecine work, you got either DV-AVI Type II files, or AVI uncompressed. These will allow you the most correction with the least loss in quality. While there is some compression with DV-AVI, you'll likely never be able to find this. One big note: if you go with the trial version, it will not touch anything MPEG.
As for the correction techniques, you are not really limited. PrPro has almost every tool that you could ask for. I've use it to restore many very old, poorly stored VHS tapes, and some were even shot in LP and EP. For more extensive work, AfterEffects would be the go-to program. Still, I do not think you would need to go that far. If one of the suites, that includes AE fits your budget, that might be a good choice.
You might want to try the trial version of CS4. It's got a 30 day period, so you might want to have things ready to go. Create a Project to match the frame size of your Assets, and Import a few. The learning curve seems worse, than it is. Actually, I find PrPro easier to learn and use, than PE. Once you have your Project set up, people here can step you through most questions that you have. As what you do will be dependent on your Assets and their condition, it's not really something that one can give you a formula as to how you should correct.
I'd begin by looking at the Levels Effect (and maybe Highlight & Shadow), then one of the Color Correctors. These were common to my VHS restorations. Since you will be getting a fair preview on the Monitor Panel (for highly critical work one needs a calibrated broadcast monitor, but for something other than commercial TV broadcast the preview is good), so much will be by looking at your Effects and their result. It takes some time, but once you get into it a bit, the folk here will be glad to make suggestions.
Learn how to do screen-caps of your computer's monitor, and attach these to your posts. Seeing approximately what you're seeing will help them. If you already have this down, just be prepared to use that technique fairly often, until you develop a scheme.
Within 30 days, you should know for sure if PrPro can do it for you. I think that it can do all you want, and more. If you are restoring these for a large-screen theatrical presentation, then you will want to add AE, without a doubt. For almost anything less, you should be good to go.
If you do decide that this is the program for you, do read the entire Help file - if there is still a manual (lost art now), read it daily. These will help you pick up on the terms used in PrPro and help others to help you get the most out of your program and produce the best from your Project.
Another great resource is the PrPro-wiki. There are great tutorials and the FAQ section is not to be missed.
Others might have more input, so be a bit patient,
Hunt

  • Will this battery work for my laptop?

I have a laptop from like 2009. It's going to crap and I recently got a new one, but it still runs, albeit slowly on startup and everything, and I think it's because of the battery, as it says "Consider Replacing Battery" and when I unplug the charger it just shuts off, and it only charges to 51%. So what I want to know is will this battery work for my laptop? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007W1QBO4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AF7ENLFPN87DK
The battery right now says "Replace with HP Spare 593550-001 and says 2010/10. This battery says 593553-01, but it looks almost identical to my current battery. So will this get the job done?

    Hi,
What is the model of your computer ? (HP 2000 is a series, not a model). Please check the compatible list:
       http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=593553-001
By the way, slow booting up may not due to weak/faulty battery. Can it boot faster using AC ?
    Regards.

I brought a iPhone (A1429) unlocked, sent it as a gift to my mate in Arizona, she is on the Verizon Network which in CDMA Will this phone work for her or have I just wasted $900 :/ I have done all the research and to me it looks like it should work.
Can anyone give me a difintive answer please.

Yes but I have brought the A1429 where as the information you provided states that it's the A1428.
The unlocked iPhone 5 is model A1428. For details on LTE support see www.apple.com/iphone/LTE. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint. Learn more about the unlocked iPhone
And Apple websight also states that the A1429 is both CDMA and GSM here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939#iPhone5

  • Will this ram work for the original MBP?

    thanks

Yes, that RAM module will work, but the original 2006 Core Duo model has a maximum of 2 GBs of RAM. You would need a Core 2 Duo model in order to install 4 GBs. If you have the 2006 C2D model you can install 4 GBs, but only 3 GBs will be available for use.

  • Will this configuration work for CS5.5?

Will this Dell work? Intel i7-2600? 16 GB dual channel DDRS SDRAM at 1333Mhz, nvidea geforce gt530? Want to buy Production Premium but have limited budget, don't need top of line computer performance, just workable ... All advice greatly appreciated. (I couldn't find in tech specs which video cards are supported.) Am also looking at Canon XF 100, which i think is supported by CS5.5, right?

    John,
The GT 530 is very slow. It has only 96 cores, crummy DDR3 video RAM, only 128-bit memory bus. Basically a GT 430 with a new OEM-only name on it.
The Quadro 4000 is a ripoff as far as Premiere Pro CS5.5 performance is concerned: It is basically similar in performance to the GTX 460 SE (not the regular GTX 460): Only 256 cores on the Quadro 4000 versus 288 cores on the GTX 460 SE. Worse, the Quadro 4000 costs five times more money than the GTX 460 SE.

ok, that's better.   while non-ECC memory supposedly works in the S10, i believe it's set up to normally accept ECC memory.   also keep in mind that if combining memory, you can't use non-ECC with ECC as the S10 won't boot past POST.
part of the benefits of having a proper workstation is error checking.   in my opinion ECC memory is the best way to go, even if non-ECC memory works.

  • Will Flash programming work for this...

    Hello,
We have a website (www.sportsoutfit.com) and we offer custom stringing for lacrosse heads. I want to create a program that a customer opens up, they can pick what lacrosse head they want, the stringing style and colors. I want them to be able to see the head as they build it and have the colors and stringing style change as they change their options. Is this something flash can do? I am open for suggestions! Thanks.
    Bob

Additional considerations you might have are:
Is this just for the website visitor to see, but do nothing else with after they "build" the item? This is fairly achievable with the skills that most modestly experienced Flash developers have.
This application would need to contain (or load in) all images of the various categories (multiple heads, multiple strings/colors, etc.). Then you need to determine what kind of interaction you want the visitor to experience in order to build their custom product. For example, something that goes along with "Click a head from below, and then choose a string style and color".
Then, do you want the customer to be able to save this designed product, for purposes of creating an actual product order, that your shop would actually get the details from and build from? This increases the technical specifications & needs of the entire project, and requires lots of skill beyond just Flash.
Flash is GREAT for the presentation part of this experience, but you'd need to discuss with your web development/IT team to figure out how to handle the transmission of data.

  • Will this setup work for extending my network?

I want to be able to control which piece of hardware I connect to. I have and airport extreme currently being extended by a airport express so we can get a signal in the far part of our backyard. The problem is when going through the airport express the bandwidth drops by 50%, and since I can't specify what to connect to I need another solution, so will the following work?
    1) airport extreme connects to Internet
    2) airport express connect wirelessly to airport extreme but doesn't allow wireless clients.
    3) airport express connects via Ethernet to another router which I setup as a different wireless network (different ip range etc)
    4) then in backyard we can use the second wireless network
    5) when inside we can connect directly to the airport express
    is this possible?
    Thanks

Experiment a bit with the placement of the AirPort Express.
It's natural that the signal strength (and speed) will fall off with distance from the wireless router, so the trick is to place the AirPort Express at a position where it will:
    1) Receive as strong a signal as possible (because it can only extend what it receives).
    2) Extend the signal strength to the area you want to cover
If there were no obstructions between the main router and the area you want to extend to, the ideal position for the Express would be half way between them. That way, the Express gets as strong a signal as possible to extend the signal.
Depending on your layout, the Express may need to be even closer to the main router....or, more than half the distance, maybe up to 2/3.
If you power down the Express and take some measurements with the laptop, you will see how the wireless signal strength and speed fall off with distance. If you locate the Express too far away from the main router, it won't have enough signal to work with for best performance.
It's all a series of compromises. You never gain something without giving up something else in return. It's possible that the 50% loss in bandwidth in the remote areas is the best that can be attained at your location. Extending using wireless only always brings some loss of performance.
Finally, if you really want the "best" bandwidth performance from a wireless network, the only way to do it is connect the Express to the AirPort Extreme using ethernet. This preserves the bandwidth on the network much more effectively than any other method of extending.

I am looking to purchase an Apple G4/500 to submit graphics etc. across the internet for an independent newspaper. Will this tower suit my needs to start ?

Thank you for helping me consider all of this. I am a novice at this newspaper project so I am unsure of what all I need to consider. I will find out and go from there. I do not have a lot of revenue to start with so when I found a deal, I thought it may be a consideration to start with.

  • Will this enclosure work for the hard drive on my G4 laptop.

I am looking for an enclosure that will all me to connect my G4 Laptop Hard drive...will this work?
    http://www.sourcingmap.com/brown-usb-sata-hdd-aluminum-external-hard-drive-enclo sure-case-p-18880.html

Pre-September 2003 Powerbook G4s without a PCMCIA slot will be limited to USB 1.1 speeds with this enclosure.
PCMCIA and Post September 2003 Powerbooks can use the hard drive with reasonable speed as USB 2 if there are no other USB 1.1 devices connected to the USB port. PCMCIA powered USB adapters exist that can be used for those Powerbooks with PCMCIA.
Neither series Powerbook will be able to boot Mac OS X from that enclosure. A Firewire enclosure would be needed to boot the the drive as an external drive, and know you have a reliable clone, if your purpose is to make a clone backup.
Note, you posted this question in the iBook G4 forum, yet your profile indicates you have a Powerbook G4. We can ask a moderator move your thread if your question is regarding Powerbooks. No iBook has PCMCIA slots. Look beneath your screen on the screen's frame, but above the keyboard to determine which machine you have. Powerbooks can be identified here:

  • Will this setup work for Color Calibration / Matrox / Enzio Monitor

Hi, I'm getting conflicting answers from Matrox forum and DVinfo.
I'm wondering if this setup will work for editing wedding films as well as doing color correction...
I'm using FCP 7 / FCS 3. I have a DVI input as well as a DisplayPort input on my Mac Tower which is about year old.
    Monitor: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/687611-REG/Eizo_CG223W_BK_ColorEdge_CG223W _22_Widescreen.html
Converter/Capture Card: (This is where I'm confused.) I'd also like to keep it under $800 if possible and be compatible with FCP X
    http://www.sharbor.com/products/MTXN5010167.html
Can I also use a displayport to HDMI to connect my Mac tower to the Matrox as well as a HDMI to DisplayPort to connect the Matrox to the monitor or will this ruin or downgrade the signal?
Or is there another card that I could use that is simple to install?
    Thanks for you help!

    >Can I also use a displayport to HDMI to connect my Mac tower to the Matrox as well as a HDMI to DisplayPort to connect the Matrox to the monitor or will this ruin or downgrade the signal?
No.  The Matrox MXO2 line connects one of three ways: PCIe slot in MacPro, Express34 for MacBook Pro, and Thunderbolt (additional cost for the adapter).  If you have a MacPro..you put the MXO2 adapter card into one of the PCIe slots, then connect that to the MXO2 box.

  • I have a 2009 Macbook Pro and the charger stopped working. Will this charger work for it, or do i have to find an old 1 online?

I've looked into the replacement program and i don't qualify.

Wil this work for an older macbook pro?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That charger is perfect for your MacBook Pro, so you can buy it and use it with your computer. If you want, you can buy the 85W one, that provides more power and makes the battery charge faster, at least for the 15 and 17-inch MacBook Pro

Will this Desktop be able to play Battlefield 4 atleast on high settings. Because for the system specs for BF4 it says i need the Radeon 7000 series graphics card, and it looks like this desktop has it. '
So would all i need to buy is a 500 Watt power supply? Or would i need to buy a 660Ti graphics card with it?
    Please help. Thanks
    Solved!

    Hello Thunderbolt1096,
I'd say the processor will be fine, but you'll definitely want to get the 660 ti you mentioned. The site just mentions the 7000 series as a minimum requirement. Even on a  low to medium resolution at medium settings the 7450 will only produce around 25 FPS with plenty of dropping during high action moments.

  • Will this setup work for a wireless backup?

I'm trying to determine what I need for what I want to do. I have a Macbook on an existing wireless network. I have an external drive that I connect to via hardwire. No. The AirPort Express (AX) does not support USB hard drives.
