Will Tiger drop in price after Leopard?

Can I still buy Tiger after Leopard is released, and will Tiger go down in price then?

Not directly from Apple. Apple will simply stop
selling it. You'll then have to look for it from
third-party vendors. Since this is a third-party
matter we can't really tell you what will happen.
Thanks. Just wondered what had happened in the past. I figure if it drops a lot, it might be nice to have an OS closer to what everyone is designing for. But if it's still gonna be over $100 or close to that, I'm happy with Panther.

  • Kernel Panic Installing Tiger 10.4.10 after Leopard

    I have tried out Leopard for a while on our iMac but want to go back to Tiger.
    Unfortunately when I run the Tiger install disk that came with the machine I get a Kernel panic saying the disk isn't for PowerPC 6,3.
    This looks like the sort of error people get when using disks not shipped with the machine, but these really are the original disks.
    Now it is possible that I did a firmware update at some point, could this be causing my problem? Is there a way to rollback to the original firmware that shipped with the machine?
    I'm clutching at straws really.
    Would really appreciate any pointers.
    Thanks,
    Adam

    Thanks for the response Dale.
    This happens whenever booting from the Tiger disk.

  • Will the imac g5 drop in price?

    will the imac g5 drop in price?
    If so when and how much of a drop?
      Windows XP

    Typically, Apple does not drop prices. It discontinues old models and introduces new ones. Now the switch to Intel is a little different since they are selling PPC and Intel Macs side-by-side.
    I assume that they dropped the price after the successful introduction of the Intel iMacs. It helps Apple "prove" that the Core Duos are faster since they are more expensive - flawed logic, I know, but you know people believe it.
    Look for the refurbs for the best deals. You get the benefit of a system that has the full factory warrantee, plus the option to buy AppleCare to extend that warrantee and suport to three full years.

  • Will not auto-login to Airport Network after Leopard Install

    Since I have upgraded to Leopard my G5Quad will no longer automatically log in to my existing Airport Network. I have to MANUALLY select my network name from the Airport Menu Bar drop down.
    After waking from sleep, the computer remains connected to my network with no problems. Only after a full startup does it exhibit this behavior.
    VERY ANNOYING!!!
    Please help!

    When you go to System Preferences, choose Network, and click on Airport in the left pane, what do the settings look like in the right pane?

  • When Leopard comes out, will Tiger still be available?

    I'm a nincompoop with computers, when Leopard comes out, will Tiger still be available to purchase? I would rather have OS X Leopard, but I don't know if my powerbook will satisfy the requirements to run it. Have they published the requirements for Leopard? I want to make an informed decision but I'm not sure if time will permit.

    Here you can buy previous versions off OSX:
    http://www.macsales.com/
    MacSales does still sell OSX Panther (version before Tiger). So if Leopard is available for sail you can still buy Tiger there. There are also a lott other store's which do sell previous versions off OSX.
    I don't know what model powerbook you have?
    If it is a G4 then you can definitely run Leopard on it. Leopard will probably not support any off the Mac's with a G3 processor.
    Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem.

  • Imac screen will dim after leopard install

    Since installing leopard on my imac the screen will dim a small amount after awhile and then when I star to use the mouse it will brighten up again. Is this normal with leopard?
    My Mac pro dors not do this.
    Thank you
    Dcik

    Ever since I installed Leopard on my iMac G5, periodically the screen will dim. This seems to be random, and not related to any specific program I might be running. The screen dims to the pre-sleep level, and doesn't brighten in response to anything I do other than sleep the computer and wake it again--no keystrokes or mouse clicks have any effect. I've tried everything in the Energy Saver prefs, and nothing seems to make any difference. Fortunately it doesn't happen all the time, or it'd be a real nuisance, but for that reason it would also be difficult to reproduce the effect for a repair person, in the event that it's a hardware problem. Has anyone else encountered this?

    I have just received my second MacBook Air 11" the Wifi connection keeps dropping. Also, after 3 meters away from the rooter it keeps searching for network! It is the second try and the same issues. Will Apple ever come up with a solution? There is a program pack for the connection issue but I cannot believe that this computer wifi keeps connected only while nearby the rooter!

    Applied this update?

    If the update is installed aready, you may have to wait until OS X 10.8.5
    update if and when it is relased.
    Best.

  • PL/SQL to create a temp table that will be dropped after session ends

    Is it possible in PL/SQL to create a temp table that will be dropped after the session ends? Please provide example if possible. I can create a global temp table in PL/SQL but I am not sure how (if possible) to have it 'drop' once the session ends.
    DB: 10g
    OS: Wiindoze 2003 Server
    :-)

    As others have mentioned (but probably not clearly explained), Oracle treats temporary tables differently to SQL Server.
    In SQL Server you create a temporary table and it gets dropped (automatically I assume, I dont do SQL Server) after the session finishes. This will obviously allow each session to "request" a temporary table to use, then use it, and not have to worry about cleaning up the database after the session has finished.
    Oracle takes a different approach...
    On the assumption that each session is likely to be creating a temporary table for the same purposes, with the same structure, Oracle let's you create a Global Temporary Table a.k.a. GTT (which you've already come across). You only have to create this table once and you leave it on the database. This then means that any code written to use that table doesn't have to be dynamic code and can be verified and checked at compile time, just like code written for any other table. The difference of a GTT from a regular table is that any data you put into that table can only be seen by that session and will not interfere with any data of other sessions and, when you either commit, or end the session (depending on the "on commit delete rows" or "on commit preserve rows" option used when creating the GTT), that data from your own session will automatically be removed and hence the table is cleaned up that way, whilst the actual table itself remains.
    Some people from SQL Server backgrounds try and create and drop tables dynamically in their PL/SQL code, but this leads to problems...
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  begin
      2    execute immediate 'create table my_temp (x number)';
      3    insert into my_temp values (1);
      4    execute immediate 'drop table my_temp';
      5* end;
    SQL> /
      insert into my_temp values (1);
    ERROR at line 3:
    ORA-06550: line 3, column 15:
    PL/SQL: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    ORA-06550: line 3, column 3:
    PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignoredi.e. the code will not compile for direct DML statements trying to use that table.
    They then try and get around this issue by making their DML statements dynamic too...
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  create or replace procedure my_proc is
      2  begin
      3    execute immediate 'create table my_temp (x number)';
      4    execute immediate 'insert into my_temp values (''A'')';
      5    execute immediate 'drop table my_temp';
      6* end;
    SQL> /
    Procedure created.... which looks great and it compiles ok... but... when they try and run it...
    SQL> exec my_proc;
    BEGIN my_proc; END;
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01722: invalid number
    ORA-06512: at "SCOTT.MY_PROC", line 4
    ORA-06512: at line 1... oops the code has a bug in it. Our DML statement was invalid.
    This is really something that would have been caught at compile time, if the statement had been a direct DML statement rather than dynamic. And thus we see the problem with people trying to write all their code as dynamic SQL... it's more likely to contain bugs that won't be detected at compile time and only come to light at run time... sometimes only under certain conditions and sometimes once it's got into a production environment. Bad Idea!!!! ;)
    Far better to never create tables (or most other database objects) at run time. Just create them once as part of the database design/implementation and use them as required, allowing you to catch the most common coding errors up front before they get anywhere near a test environment or worse still, a production environment.

  • Cursor will not drop item after attempting to drag item to new location.

    I have been having issues with my mouse not dropping an item after i try to drag it to a new location. This happened soon after some updates but i have done too much work to go back and restore without losing alot of work. I have done an SMC reset as well as a PRAM reset. I have totally wiped the computer and restored from time machine. The apple store has checked and all the hardware is fine so it is definitely a software glitch. All software is up to date. Only thing I think it may could be would be stuff needed for Blackboard online classroom. How can I find this or perhaps fix this?!?

    Thanks Linc! I actually had this thought last night since Air Display is the only third party software I have running and that was about the time the apple started messing up. As soon as I deleted the software the computer started working perfectly again!!!

    whats the easiest way of back ing up your itunes?
    thanks hope i dont seen to dim in asking these questions
    thanks jay

    Anytime you perform a major change to your computer you should first make a backup.  Do this as follows:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your Tiger Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    Next, have an empty external hard drive large enough to store all the files on your internal hard drive.
    Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    2. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    3. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    Beyond this you have stated you will be installing software including Snow Leopard that has been lent to you by a friend.  Since installing single-user software on more than one CPU at a time is illegal we cannot help you further.

  • Getting Tiger functionality back in the Leopard Dock

    Is there any way to get back some of the functionality that Tiger's Dock offered in Leopard? Specifically I want to be able to right click and get a list of folders within folders, so I can access those applications without having to open Finder windows.
    To explain: in my Applications folder, I have subfolders to organise apps by type. I kept the Applications folder in the Dock. In Tiger, I would right click on this, and navigate to subfolders (eg "Media apps") and move the mouse across to the specific app, let go, and it would open.
    With Leopard I can only get to the subfolder, then I have to open it as a Finder window, then click on my app. I know it seems a minor thing, but it annoys me to have to keep opening windows all the time. The only workaround I can see is to have every Applications subfolder in the Dock, but I don't want to do this because my Dock is already crammed full of stuff.
    I hope this makes sense and I hope there is a solution.

    At this time, Leopard just dropped that feature, maybe a future release will bring it back. I used to use the same method to organize regulary used servers.
    The only thing I can think of, is use an alternative solution like DragThing (http://www.dragthing.com/)
    Do you know you can launch any application by opening Spotlight menu (Command-Space or Control-Space) and type application name ? This is even quicker than using submenus.

  • Mail will randomly drop letters from messages

    I have been noticing this phenomena for the last several months. Mail will will randomly drop letters & numbers from outgoing messages. They are not being dropped upon receipt of the message, it will drop letters & numbers from sent messages. I maintain several machines and I have noticed this from each of my users machines. They are all running some version of 10.4 (10.4 - 10.4.6). I did not notice this behavior under 10.3. It is a minor annoyance if it is personal mail that is being sent, but when it is professional correspondence it makes you look like an idiot. I have had it drop letters from a URL so that the recipient could not get to the page I sent.
    I get no error messages or any pattern of behavior that I can identify. It does not happen to all messages only a few.
    Anyone else notice this happening? If so, have you been able to correct it?
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    HI,
    That is where the Pics are. Each App keeps a record of it's Recent Pic.
    It pulls the one from the Contacts List (Address Book)
    What it does not do is tell where you can turn the pic Off.
    I checked Preferences and Menus and could not see a Setting.
