Will Tiger support a 3rd party CDRW internal drive?

Hi all-
First post here, but lurking for a while... My new Mini will arrive tomorrow and I'll be putting my G3 into helper service on the model railroad. The G3 currently has a DVD-ROM drive. According to System Profiler it supports burning, but I've never been able to get it burn CDs (keeps asking for media to be inserted). But my old Performa has a Yamaha CDRW drive that I'd like to put in the G3. My question is whether Tiger will recognize and burn to the drive (without other software). I have the original Yamaha software, but it's for OS 8.x. I have a disc with 10.4.3 and the updates for 10.4.4 and 10.4.5, so I can put any of those versions on the G3. As an alternate, if Tiger won't work, any idea if 9.2.2 will work??? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that - I'll give it a try. As an FYI, the link to download from the webpage you list doesn't work. I had to go to http://www.patchburn.de/ to download it. Looks like the current version is 4.0.0a5 (4.0.0a.4 listed on webpage you mention - maybe that's why it returns an error when trying to download)...

Using native Logic OSC support with 3rd party plug-ins & new touchOSC maps

Hi All.
Now that logic from 9.1.2 has native OSC support, I wandered if anyone has used it succesfully with their own customised touchOSC maps?
I'm not so interested in using touchsc as a transport/mixer for logic - which is what the default logic map that comes in touchosc s focused on, but more to control a few 3rd party plug-ins inside logic (FXPansion Geist & Strobe) - which would mean I need to create my own maps. It doesn't seem clear however if or how you can edit or use touchOSC maps which use the native OSC support bult into Logic
Anyone had any joy with this, or able top shed some light on possibilities & limitations?

For now they are OSCulator reliant, and that has some advantages: primarily that the user can easily remap anything that doesn't suit their needs. I've been using these for weeks and the combination has been rock solid so I wanted to go with it rather than wait for (and learn) the SDK.
The best part is that these bundles will include everything you need, including custom Kontakt multis, VSL matrix files and of course the OSCulator mappings - and building those may have caused carpal tunnel syndrome! Talk about a mammoth task... Anyway, the goal is for it to be an easy plug & play experience.
Trying to wrap up today or tomorrow - just waiting on some website reorganization...

Well I would argue that if you distrust the remote user so much that you should seriously reconsider letting them work on equipment on your network at all.. Actually in that case, "watching" them during a remote desktop sharing session is actually a more secure solution as you can validate the actions they are taken are limited to those necessary to perform the tasks at hand. When I have had to work on systems in environments that were required to be secure to meet regulatory requirements, I was required to provide a step-by-step list of activities before hand and my performance of only those activities and verification of the expected outcome was done by staff of the client I was supporting.
If you want a purely network-based solution then put a temporary access list on the server's default gateway for the period during which the remote maintenance is ongoing allowing it to communicate only to/from the remote access VPN gateway.
A more sustainable setup would be to host the server in a DMZ on a private VLAN with an access list (or default setting) on the DMZ interface of the firewall that prohibits the server from initiating communication to the inside network.

Well, I've used Paragon NTFS, but if you don't want to use 3rd party software, you should do this AT YOUR OWN RISK:
Open Terminal.app (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
Type "diskutil info /Volumes/volume_name" and copy the Volume UUID (bunch of numbers).
Backup /etc/fstab if you have it, shouldn't be there in a default install.
Type "sudo nano /etc/fstab".
Type in "UUID=paste_the_uuid_here none ntfs rw" or "LABEL=volume_name none ntfs rw" (if you don't have UUID for the disk).
Repeat for other NTFS partitions.
Save the file (ctrl-x then y) and restart your system.
After reboot, NTFS partitions should natively have read and write support. This works in both 32 and 64-bit kernels. Support is quite good and fast, it even recognizes file attributes such as hidden files.

This information would be dependent on which third party you are integrating with, they should provide details of settings needed for the same. For supporting third party SIP endpoints with Cisco there are numerous docs / posts , but in your case the scenario is reverse.

Will not charge with 3rd party chargers when asleep

My iphone 3g does not charge when plugged into a 3rd party charger and the phone is asleep. I can confirm that its not charging because the phone is still out of battery even after being plugged in overnight, and the griffin charger has a LED indicator that shows if its actively charging or not. I tired this with both a Griffin iphone charger and a Belkin charger.
When waking up the phone though, it of course shows that its charging. It took me a while to figure out that it wasnt chargin when it was asleep.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Do these chargers say that they are made to work with iphone?
The iphone 3g does not charge via firewire pins as the original did. This could be your problem.
There are many posts on charging issues due to firewire compatibility. You can do a forum search to find out more.

Hi Rajan,
The LabVIEW may be able to control the motor depends on the bus used for communication and what the C program does.
For example, if you connect to the motor using a simple bus, such as RS-232 (serial), then you could use LabVIEW to send the commands to the instrument. For this you need the motor's command set, which should be in the motor's documentation. You can also look into the C example program you were giving and determine if commands are being sent directly using the serial port.
Another way the manufacturer might provide conectivity is using a driver. In this case, the manufacturer provides you with a library of functions that reflect the functionality of the device. You don't need to worry about the specifics of the communication bu
s. You just call the functions from this library. In this case, you can use LabVIEW's Library Function Call Node, which allows you to call C functions in dlls.
If you can include more information on how the motor is connected to the instrument and what the C code does, I could probably provide more details.

Will Tiger support iMovie 4, iDVD 4, and iPhoto 4?

My daughter's new iPod nano will force me to upgrade from OS 10.3 to 10.4 (not yet ready to gamble on 10.5). Can anyone please tell me if iMovie 4, iPhoto 4, and iDVD 4 are supported in Tiger? I really depend upon these for my workflow and can't take any chances... Thanks!

External 3rd party USB DVD drive will not show up on my 2008 Macbook pro

I have a the new Macbook pro, when I connect my Liteon USB DVD drive it does not show up my Macbook pro. The only DVD drive showing up is the one on my Macbook pro. How do I make the 2nd DVD drive show up. I just need to 2nd drive to tranfers data from dvd to the external drive.

Hi, ipodtrip1. Nothing will appear on your MBP's desktop unless there is a disc in the drive. Does a disc in the drive not appear either?
If not, does System Profiler detect the drive as a connected device?
If you have another USB device you can connect to your computer, disconnect the optical drive and connect the other device. Does System Profiler detect that device?
If not, reset the System Management Controller, and see whether doing so reactivates your USB port.

IPod 30GB will not work with 3rd party USB 2.0 PCI card

I've had an IOGear PCI USB 2.0 card (GIC220U-BIO) in my Sawtooth for some time now, and have been using it flawlessly with my Canon i860 printer, and Canon LiDE 30 Scanner.
Just recently I received a Video iPod (30GB) and wanted to take advantage the high speed USB bus offered on that card to sync my iPod. The problem is, when I plug in the iPod to the USB port on that card, I get the transparent gray box telling me that I need to restart my mac by pushing the reset switch, or holding the power button for several seconds (in other words, freezes).
The iPod works fine with the built-in USB ports (albeit slow), as well as the high speed port on my iBook G4. Why am I getting this error? There are no drivers or firmware updates for this PCI card available.
Is there a solution?

Yes, use a different USB 2.0 PCI card, like from Sonnet. I use a Sonnet in a G5 and it works great. There are (at least) 2 USB chipsets and I find the TI ones are great and the other not so great.
The fact it works on 1.1 and the 2.0 on the G4 at least tells you it is not the iPod and a USB 2 card is $20 or $30 at the most.

Will time machine back up a second "internal" drive?

I have a Macbook Pro "late 2008" unibody.
I'd like to eventually buy an SSD drive to use as my "boot up / programs" drive and then use my much larger conventional drive as a "data" drive which will reside where my superdrive was. Will time machine back up this second drive or is it limited to the drive it's installed on?
If it's not possible, I'd appreciate any recommendations / tips on how I would back up the second drive or an alternate back up solution to back up both drives more efficiently.

I use my iMac to backup all our iOS devices, but I don't have a back up for the iMac. I have a 500MB harddrive but am only using about 200MB. Do I have to buy a Time Capsule or is there a smaller external hard drive that I could use instead? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Some drive-combos seem to be more troublesome. Western Digital "comination units" (the cases that come as a drive in a case that has its own interface card. WD is reported by forum users to choose interface cards that go bad and tank your backups as they die. Then you need to extract the drive and put it in your own enclosure and reformat.
LaCie seems to make good product.
You can also buy external enclousres at macsales.com (type "enclosures" in the search box) to get a good Firewire enclosure and then buy a WD "Black" drive to put in it.
Make sure your backup is self-powered and not USB-powered ... nothing worse during a disaster recovery than your Mac being unable to power the recovery disk,

Exchange Server 2010 Edge Transport Subscription Issue while moving Internal CA Certificate to 3rd Party Certificate

My Client have a Exchange 2010 Organization with Single Domain Single Forest.
They were using Internal CA Certificate and a TLS Cert.
As a POC we are doing a POC for Exchange 2010 Hybrid Office 365 Environment.
For this 3rd Party CA is Mandatory and they have bought a Geo Trust Certificate.
Now when they have installed cert on both HUB as well as EDGE servers, he was prompted to do edge subscription again.
HUB and CAS are combined on the server at both Main and DR Site.
When they try to do edge subscription again they are getting the following error.

1-Certificate will import on both EDGE and HUB Servers.
2-Edge Sync will use Self-Sign Certificate (but I an unable to find how do I configure this)
3-some communication between Edge and Hub will be encrypted via 3rd party Certificate.
Could anyone suggest, which services on HUB must based in this 3rd party cert.
All the external communication must be encrypted via 3rd party CA and communication between HUB-EDGE will set on self-sign Cert. How do I do this.

Please run Get-ExchangeCertificate | fl to check your Exchange certificate settings. Also confirm if the 5E470560626E313646730C177FCA66728E2BAFF7 certificate is your trusted 3rd party cert.
Please use Enable-ExchangeCertificate cmdlet to assign SMTP service to your self-signed certificate in your Edge server.
