Will time capsule bacukup windows partition?

Will Time Capsule backup the whole disk to include any Windows software installed via Boot Camp?

You may be able to use the WinClone app to back up the BootCamp partition.  I don't do Windoze, though, so there may be other apps as well.
If you decide to do that, your best bet may be to limit the size of the TM backups, or create a disk image on the Time Capsule, to "reserve" enough space on it for the BootCamp backups, as mixing Time Machine backups and other data on the TC's internal HD can cause conflicts.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for details.

  • Time Capsule Erased Window Partition

    Good Morning,
I recently purchased and set up a time capsule with my macbook pro. All worked well, or so i thought until this morning when i went to start my macbook up in the Windows partition. I created this partition about a month or two before i installed the time capsule. Luckily there wasnt much saved on there as the windows partition was not there when i pressed the alt key on start up... Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if so, where did it go? and how can i get it back? Can i simply just run boot camp again or will that wipe my time capsule?
    Thanks in Advance!

    Nope, still not making sense.
    First of all..
(although i have been told by apple that you can partition time capsule)
Where did you hear this, a Genius or AppleCare advisor? Because I suspect there is some communication here. You CAN NOT partition a TC.... well... at least not officialy (not going to say any more on that). However, what you CAN DO, is partition an ext drive, and the use Time Machine to backup to one of the partitions on that EXT drive.
When you "installed" the time capsule, I still can't think of any possible way that it woud have DEPLETED your windows partition. The TC is just a physical backup device.
Are you sure you are using the term Time Capsule to represent something else here?

  • Will Time Capsule work if I partition my new Seagate Plus 1 TB drive?

I have a Macbook with OS 10.6.8, and I just purchased a new Seagate Plus 1 TB drive. My macbook's 120GB memory is nearly full, so I would like to partition the new hard drive into 2 sections--one for Time Capsule and one to offload oodles of pictures, video clips, songs, etc. I began reading discussion forums to get directions and have read some people saying that partitioned drives support Time Capsule fine, and others saying that on a partitioned drive Time Capsule will not reboot from a crashed hard drive. Is this true? (I hope not!) Can someone offer me the truth on this topic, as well as accutate instructions about how to partition? Thank you very much!

If you purchased a standalone external drive, you're using Time Machine, not a Time Capsule, and can partition the drive normally.
All the copies of a file you want to keep shouldn't be on a single drive, as it can fail at any time.

  • Time machine and Windows Partition

Will Time Machine backup my windows/Boot Camp partition?

    kenjf wrote:
i am using time machine and vm fusion. If time machine backs up my entire mac HD, is it backing up my windows data saved on the windows/fusion partition?
    Welcome to the Apple forum.
Fusion is something quite different from BootCamp. Naturally fusion or VPC or any other virtual system will be backed up along with Leopard, We are talking about a separate OS in its own partition, and the answer as already noted is no, TM will not backup the Windows partition.

  • Time capsule in windows XP

How do you set up the time capsule in windows XP as a network drive, I tried to map it using \\10.0.1.1\name but i cant see the drive

Did you load bonjour for windows onto the PC.. ?? That helps alot.
The full windows version of the airport utility includes bonjour I believe.
Did you set the TC in the right workgroup.. on the disk file sharing page of the manual setup in airport utility?
Did you turn on guest access with read and write permissions.
Also just use the IP and see what resources are available.. if you misspell the name it will already fail. And use SMB compatible names.. ie short no spaces.. no apostrophe in particular.. as Apple setup loves to do.. pure alphanumeric.

  • Does restoring a computer back to a certain date in time remove the Windows partition created by Boot Camp?

If I'm wanting to restore my computer back to a certain date in time using a TM backup, will it remove my Windows partition? For example, say I choose to restore back to a date when I did not have the Windows partition on the computer, does it remove the partition, or does it keep it on the computer since it's a separate partition?

I didn't say TM could use an MS-DOS partition. I just said "You can't really state that "Windows partition is invisible to TM", since a Windows XP partition could be formatted MS-DOS, and thus is not invisible to TM." I am right. You shouldn't make blanket statements that are not true.

  • HT1175 will time capsule backup programs?

    Will Time Capsule backup Programs?

Great!  That answers one question.  Some of the "programs" are Mac and some are Windows but they are all in the Applications folder on my computer so I guess it will back them up.
Next question...I'm asking this because Apple is giving me a new hard drive because they have determined that my Seagate HD may have some issues so mine is being included in a voluntary fix.  I am performing a full backup and hope (and assume) that once I get the new HD installed, I will just be able to update my computer form the backup on the external HD and that my computer will be back to normal.  Is that right? OR, am I also going to have to reinstall all those programs on my new HD?

  • Will time capsule backup my pc?

Will Time Capsule backup my pc?  Do I need a separate external hard drive and genie pro?

Time capsule is a router with a hard disk inside. .it offers SMB access.
There is no backup software in the TC.. it is Time Machine in the Mac that does the work.
For PC you can use any backup package you like that can deal with network drive.. vast majority do so.. even the crappy windows one.
But the warning is there when you mix TM and data on a mixed network you can get into trouble from the TM side.. the file storage from PC is fine.

  • We have 3 macs and one pc in our house. will time capsule work for backup?

we have 3 macs and one pc. will time capsule be suitable

If you intend to backup automatically using Time Machine, the Time Capsule will work just fine with your Macs if they are running the Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion operating systems..
But Time Machine does not exist for PCs, so you will need to look around for a similar application for Windows. I haven't used it, but a neighbor of mine who has both Macs and PCs reports that he has had good luck with Genie Timeline.
A Google search will provide links for the application if you are interested.

  • Will time capsule back up an external hard drive

Will time capsule back up an external hard drive?

Time Machine will backup the drive to the Time Capsule if it is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and it is connected directly to your Mac by USB or FireWire....and it is not "excluded" from backups in Time Machine Options.

    1. Will Time Capsule work with this and how?
    2. Can my printer USB be plugged in and then shared between the devices?
    3. Can I create a network and how?
    4.  What happend when a visitor logs onto my existing wireless router?
I'm new to Macs (well a returning user having started with Mac Plus!!) and not very technical.  Any help / advice will be much appreciated.

The key to what you seem to want to do is to be able to get Apple's Time Capsule router to "join" the network that your Conceptronic router.  I believe that works with some third-party routers, but I've never seen a list of those that work in such a configuration and I have no experience with Conceptronic equipment.
You might be better off with a Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device instead of a Time Capsule.

  • Firmware 7.4.1 Time Capsule and Windows

    Hi
I know that firmware 7.4.1 has caused problems for people using Time Capsules with Windows PCs:
    http://theappleblog.com/2009/03/06/a...ate-available/
I know that this problem affects the original TCs as I actually have an original TC and I had the problem with firmware 7.4.1 (fixed by downgrading to 7.3.2).
Does anyone know if the problem with 7.4.1 only affects the older TCs or does it affect the new updated TCs (released earlier this year) as well?
I want to buy another TC, but not if it has the 7.4.1 problem and not if it can't be downgraded to 7.3.2.
    Thanks

i have been using an AEB w/ an attached USB drive to backup wirelessly using Time Machine for several months. I've had no problems restoring several files wirelessly from the TM backup. No problems at all so far. I have a 2nd hard drive attached to the AEB which serves iTunes and movies wirelessly. No problems there either.
The only issue is that accessing these drives is slow even when the mac is connected to the AEB via ethernet (the TC exhibits the same issue). If you aren't upset by that speed, or don't mind jacking the drive straight into you mac when you need to make big transfers, it's a perfectly livable system. I was certainly hoping that the new AEB and TC would feature upgraded server ability and loosen up that bottleneck but they apparently have not. c'est la vie
As far as an official comment from apple is concerned, it's doubtful that you'll ever get that. And if you did get it, what good would it do? Do you think they'd pay you a huge settlement if they 'officially supported' this backup method and you wound up with a corrupted backup that caused data loss? It either works or it doesn't and personally I give more credence to the experience of other users and my own cautious trial than I do to any official statement Apple makes on the subject.

  • I have OS X 10.6.8 and want to get a backup device such as time capsule.  Will time capsule recognise my OS version?

Will the latest time capsule be the most suitable device for backup from my desktop OS X 10.6.8.  Will Time Capsule connect with Snow Leopard?

As The hatter says, a directly-connected external HD (USB or FireWire) is the fastest and most reliable way to back up a desktop Mac.
A Time Capsule will work, of course, but is mainly intended for wireless backups of laptops.
You might want to review the Time Machine Tutorial, and perhaps browse Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Will time capsule also back up external hard drives?

will time capsule also back up external hard drives?

Yes. If you're using Time Machine, open its preferences and ensure the drives aren't excluded; Time Machine can't back up drives in some formats, such as FAT32.
