Will updates do anything?
Hi guys this is my 1st post, about my 1st ipod. I got the 160 classic in October, and its been ok so far but that's just the problem. Its just 'ok'. For instance, random crashes and jerky playback, the click wheel is very clunky, poor sound quality and to get it to play on a TV, ive got to pay crazy money for a special cable/dock (who knows?) to make it happen. But you all know about these things so I guess my question is...will these things be fixed by various updates or is this the finished article? Because 'Ok' doesnt really cut it.
Apple have not told us what was 'fixed' in previous releases never mind what if anything will be fixed in future releases.
We all hope that 1.0.3 comes soon and that it is a substantial set of fixes.
Even better if they call it 1.1 because that should indicate a significant step forward.
Heck, call it 1.a.1.87 release 1 version 5 for all I really care, just fix it and make it the great product that it should be!!!

I tried updating to iso 8.0.2 and now my iPad is stuck in recovery mode and will not do anything. it will not reset.
RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary. -
I updated my iPhone 5S to iOS 7.0.2 and iBooks will not load anything from the Store- I cannot search or even view my purchases.
Also Safari keeps crashing. I have shut down the phone and restarted it twice and that hasn't helped. Any ideas?Libellen wrote:

First try a Reset ( No Data will be Lost )

my airport time capsule will no longer allow our iPhones or vizio smart tvs to connect to it, though my iPad air mac mini and mac air connect fine. Why is this? does a recent software update have anything to do with it?
What model is your TC? What is the firmware?
I recommend you do a factory reset and use short names.. not apple recommended names.
Short.. 2-20 characters .. less than 10 even better.
No spaces.
Pure alphanumeric.
Set fixed channels for 2.4ghz wireless.. test with 11, 6, 1 at least.
That often helps.. if not and is old, ie Gen1-4 go back to 7.6.1 firmware which is far more solid. -
I accidently disconnected to cord in the middle of updating software on my iphone4. it now has apple logo and blank loading line below. it will not do anything else. can't even switch off please help

I use Apple TV's screen saver with a file in my photo library. I believe it is first generation or second Apple TV - not the newest one.
If I install newest update - will that change anything with my using this, my favorite feature? I have just under 4000 photos in that file.
And, what is the total # of photos it can utilize? If I keep adding photos - is there a limit to the # it will utilize?Thank you Alan and know you are right. I may treat myself to the Ipad for the color, touchpad and fun to use but it is very expensive considering how little it will do for me no more than the things I want it for. It woudl be and expensive luxuray, I can do without. I actually need t learn how to use more of the function avaiable first. Maybe I should take up playing games and learning to take digital pictures so I can at least load them. If I could learn to do that and take a decent picture, I could start selling back all the "stuff" I have purchased on ebay. haha - I do have a nice doll collection, I would like to sell. I just do not have room for anything else. That was the primary purpose for the Kindle Ereader I bought and enjoy so much,
But, I will hold onto the thought for a while and see how it goes and what other comments I get, If I think I cannot live without it, then I will have to rethink which one to buy, I coud get the 32 g if I did not have to pay for the 4g wireless. And, if I knew I could get help to teach me how to use and enjoy all the functions, I would give it more serious consideration. My granddaugther got one for Christmas and that was what got me interested in it. I love the size of the screen and it had good color and was fast. She even had an application where she could write her notes and it would convert into typed words. That was a neat feature, If you could print it?

my ipad 2 did its own update as usual ( 7.0 to 7.1) except this time it will not load anything to do with game center even its own app............is there anything I can do?
Try closing all of the apps on your iPad and then reset the device.
To close an app, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it. Close every app this way.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -

That's not normal, Giorgia - as Jim suggests, a "point release" upgrade (like 3.3 - 3.6) should be essentially invisible to the user.
But the risk of a problem is enough to motivate many of us to ensure we've got pretty robust catalogue back-up arrangements. -
Every time I try to download anything firefox stops responding and will not do anything until I restart it. Can I revert back to a previous version, or is there a fix for it? When I restart firefox, then the download continues and all is well until I try to download something new (which I do quite often).

You won't lose anything, however all purchases are permanently tied to the ID used to purchase them originally so future updates of your existing apps will still require the password for your old ID (whether you are still using it for purchasing or not.

What program will update the current temperature in Mavericks 10.9.1?
We have tried YoWindow3 and Weather.com with no success. So what can we use to display the current weather/temperature on the Desktop? Both of those programs do display the temperature, but they do not automatically update it as they did on our Windows system. If we start at 50 degrees, it will stay 50 degrees all day and night until we open the weather program itself, at which time it will update the temperature to the current temperature one time ... until we again manually refresh it. Is there any weather program that will actually refresh the temperature display on its own?
No, not Dashboard, as that requires bringing up the dashboard. Nor Safari as that means having Safari open to view it. But on the Menu bar at the top of the screen, the programs we have tried display the current temperature on that top bar, but do not upgrade it. We would like to see it when doing whatever without having to open or switch to a specific screen or program. When creating a document or spreadsheet, or when listening to music or viewing pictures, or doing anything else that does not necessarily leave the Dashboard nor Safari open. We are new to Macs, so pardon me if I am using the wrong terminology. In Windows, this would have been called the Title Bar, Menu Bar, or even Toolbar.

Adobe has the absolute worst software on the planet. I’ve already banned it from one computer due to the complete inability to prevent Adobe from performing updates, including attempting to prevent this by altering the registry settings. The problem I am having now makes it appear I’ll have to find another program in order to merely print PDF files as I can’t even do that with my Adobe product.
I have Adobe X Standard installed on my laptop and just tried to print an already saved PDF file. Adobe doesn’t want to print the file and automatically opens a menu that tries to force me to save the file I already have saved as a PDF. Seriously? For starters, you can’t overwrite an open document so I’d have to save with a new file name, a clearly ludicrous concept.
In short, Adobe will not print anything on my computer regardless of whether it was saved previously, or is just a document I found on the internet and want to print without saving. What a total waste of money.My HP printer is set as 'default', both in my printer settings as well as the program I am trying to print from (CAD program and you have to specify printer).
Adobe fooled me once and got me to open up my wallet; it won't happen again. Absolute worst software I have had in my 25 years of using computers. -

What profile? It will upgrade your system software, nothing more. Before proceeding see the following:
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update. While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
E. If updating:
Download and install update(s)
Use Software Update, or
Download standalone updater(s).
