Will updating my ipod on a different computer delete my current music i have stored on my ipod touch?

my current itunes library will not update, therefore to update my ipod touch i must use a different, more current computer. will that delete the music ive downloaded onto it? some of it isnt purchased from the itunes library. my brother also said that you cant sync you updated itouch will lower updated itunes. suggestions?

You brother is right.  If have OSX 10.4.11 and update on another computer then you can't connect to iTunes on the 10.4.11 computer anymore.
- As you probably know, you can transfer iTunes purchases to another computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
- Or redownload most iTunes purchases via iCloud if in the USA by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
- You can transfer non-iTunes purchased music to a computer by using a third-party program lke one of those discussed here:

  • Will updating the ipod touch with the latest version delete everything?

Well, my ipod hasn't been updated in a while, mostly because I have a ton of podcasts that I don't want to get rid of. Now I know that itunes doesn't really like podcasts coming from the touch itself. So I can't upload my podcasts to my computer, so I was wondering if that updating my ipod from 2.2.1 to the current version would erase all of those. I don't really care about anything else because I have those backed up, but I can't get those podcasts back.
If I can't update it it's fine, I can still put music on it and stuff, but it is kind of annoying not being able to watch any youtube videos or look at podcasts anymore.

The first part of update is making a backup. However, a backup does not include items like podcast, music since they are synced to the iPod. Therefore, unless the podcast are on the computer they will be lost when updating.
Are you also saying that when you click on transfer purchases, the podcast you purchased on the iPod itself do not copy/transfer to the computer? If not, the following discussion tell how to move stuff off your iPod to a computer:

  • Will updating my ipod touch with the new update erase all my pictures/music/apps?

I want to get the new update, but I have music on my ipod from other people's computers. Is updating my ipod going to erase everything on it and start all over?

The update itself will not affect your music. However, anytime you do a major update like this one there is a risk that there could be other issues that would require you to restore your device (not likely, but possible). Therefore, you should back up your device before you do the upgrade.
Back it up to iTunes on a computer, or to iCloud. Then do the upgrade to iOS 7.
That way, if you do have an issue that requires a restore, you can restore it to the backup you created.

  • HT4436 Can I get my Outlook Calendar to update to ICloud so it will update my IPod Touch

I joined Icloud on my IPod touch and my home computer but my calendar does not sync,.  I do not know if I need to do something or if it just will not work because it is in Microsoft Outlook.

It should sync if you are using Outlook 2007 or 2010 (earlier versions are not supported), and you checked to sync Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Tasks with Outlook on the iCloud control panel for withdows.

My iTunes Library is on my computer, I have done a backup manually, and all of my music is on an external hard drive (as well as my iTunes library).

Thanks a lot Recycle bin is empty, I will move some files from the C drive to an external hard drive, then do the update, and then move the files back. Any files you recommend not moving to the external hard drive at all?

  • I updated an iPod touch, an iPad 2, and an iPhone 4 to iOS 6, and all of them now will not connect to WiFi. They all give this wierd 404 error page from Apple and insist that I need to login to the network. Bad job testing the software Apple.

I updated an iPod touch, an iPad 2, and an iPhone 4 to iOS 6, and all of them now will not connect to WiFi. They all give this wierd 404 error page from Apple and insist that I need to login to the network. What's the fix? None of the recommended fixes work in any of these devices. Reset device, reset network, renew lease, etc. None of them work.

    Does the iPod work OK?
Does it charge when connect to the computer?
Does it appear in My Computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Compare with the iPod that does work/connect.
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1

    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

  • Can I update a iPod Touch from a different PC and not lose my media files?

OK. Here is the question, can you update a iPod touch which is on iOS 4.x to iOS 6.0 using a different computer that it was originally synced to, but not lose any of the media files on it?

Only if all your synced media like apps and music are in the iTunes library of that computer.

  • I just updated my ipod touch, and it will not work now.

I just updated my ipod touch... i think its 3g... to the newest thing, and now i reset my ipod and it just goes to a bluish green screen and won't turn off, or do anything but reset. when i reset it it goes to the apple logo and then right back to the blue screen. What can i do?! also, it won't connect to my computer.

You can not update an iPod Touch 3rd Generation to iOS 6.
Only iPod Touch 4th generation can update to iOS 6.
iPod Touch 5th Generation will come with iOS 6 already installed.
    Check this page out:
http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new scroll to bottom of page to "iOS 6 is compatible with."
You will have to place your device into recovery mode and set up as new.

  • HT1329 Can I update my iPOD touch from a new computer?

I was wondering if it's possible to update my IPOD touch from a different computer, the one I was using crashed and now I can't update my ipod and it's difficult because I can't download current games.
Also, How do I download my music from my ipod to the new computer

Copy or move the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer, then you can sync and update the device.
If for some silly reason you have failed to backup, shame on you.
That being said you should be able to do the following:
Connect the device to the computer but do not sync.
Right click on the device and select Transfer Purchases.
Once complete, right click on the device and select Backup Device.
Doing this should change the device association to the new computer allowing you to sync and update the device and apps.
