Will upgrading from 10.5.8 to 10.6 erase stuff like Safari 5 and revert it

I'm finally ready to make the jump from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard now that's it's been well worked-over, but I'm trying to assess how much down-time I'll have afterwards.
Is the 10.6 upgrade DVD smart enough to not overwrite my Safari 5.x install with Safari 4.x that's on the DVD? Or, if not, is there some way to now make it do that with a custom install or something?

It overwrote my later copy of Safari 5.x with Safari 4.x, but as I applied the combo updater from 10.6 to 10.6.6 it brought it back up to Safari 5.x, plus I ran Software update so maybe that got it up to snuff after combo update, I’m not sure.
So, it turns out it will overwrite your more recent install which is kind of a waste of time, but on the good news it brought my extensions back into 5.x without me having to reinstall them, so at least that time was saved.
Thanks everyone for your help.

  • Will upgrading from Tiger 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard delete programs?

Sorry if this is a stupid question or answered a million times before, but will upgrading from Tiger 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard stop my existing programs (PhotoShop, Office etc) from running? I've got an Intel MacBook but I've never installed a new OS myself, so any tips gratefully received! Thank you.

You will lose the ability to work in any Classic OS applications that ran under system 9.
If I were you, before upgrading do yourself a favor and purchase an external hard drive that you can "clone" your Mac to. If possible, a large enough drive that you can have 2 partitions. In one you would clone your current system and apps. Then after the upgrade, clone again your updated system to the other partition as a emergency backup.
With the clone of your current set up, if need be you can rebbot to it so that you can use any of your "old" applications.

  • Will upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion create problems within Premiere projects?

I'm looking at the probability of upgrading from Mac OSX 10.6 to 10.8 (Mountain Lion).  I have to if I want to install or upgrade just about anything at this point.
I was hoping to wait until the latest Premiere project was finished to avoid creating possible discrepancies between how the project plays back before and after the upgrade.  I'll skip the details and just say that it might be best if I do the upgrade now and install a new GPU to help with the massive amounts of rendering/playback needed.  Will upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion cause any likely problems?  No other Adobe apps are involved with this project.
I'm running a Mac Pro 5,1 and Adobe CS6.  I have two separate clone drives of my current boot disk as well as a Time Machine back up.  So I can go back if I really need to.  I'll also make sure the project is saved manually elsewhere.
    Thanks for any input!

  • Upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.7. What are the steps and do I also need to pay for 10.5 and 10.6 along the way?

Hi. I wannt to upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.7.
What are the steps and do I also need to pay for 10.5 and 10.6 along the way?
According to the 10.7 lion page on 'store' it says that you need 10.6 to use it does this mean I'm going to have to do 3 upgrades?
    Thanks

    Why do yoy want Lion/10.7???
Anyway, if your Mac meets the requirements you can skip 10.5.x, and even 10.6.x if you can afford to erase all your data.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

    If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
    Lion/101.7 System requirements
        •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
        •    At least 2GB of memory[14]
        •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
        •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading[14]
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

  • Will upgrading from MAC 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion, 10.8, cause any conflicts or problems?

I have MAC OS 10.6.8 and would like to use some applications that require me to upgrad to 10.8.--.  Should I expect to experience any problems?

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Model Numbers                  Computer Compatibility - Apple
If your computer isn't compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.        Computer Compatibility - Lion
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported.        Application Compatibility
You can also check which applications are PowerPC by going to the  menu, select About this Mac, click on More info…, then click System Report and select Software/Applications.
If you have applications that you want to use that aren’t compatible, you can retain Snow Leopard and create a new partition to install Mountain Lion on or you can run Snow Leopard  server in a virtual mode.
    Do a backup before installing.
Boot using the disks that came with your computer, the Snow Leopard DVD (if installed) or the Recovery volume (command -R) if upgrading from Lion. Use Disk Utility to Verify/Repair  the disk and run Repair Permissions. Restart normally.
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.  You can make a bootable DVD/USB stick to install using this free program.

  • Will upgrading from Snow Leopard "break" CS4 or Lightwave 10, etc. on my Macbook Pro?

I'm still relativlly unfamiliar with Macs and had a fairly simple question: If I upgrade from OSX 10.6.8 (MacBookPro5,2) to Mountain Lion, will any of my already installed programs (Adobe CS4 programs, Lightwave 10, Corel Painter 11, etc.) be affected or have issues with the newer OS? Should I be asking the individual software makers or perhaps a different Apple forum?
    Thanks,

  • How will upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5 Server work?

I need to order a new XServe to run as a Gateway Server now but am unsure when 10.5 comes out what the upgrade process will be from 10.4.
Will it be a simple upgrade, saving all of the settings? Or will it be a clean install, resulting in me having to reconfigure everything?
XServer Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Since 10.5 isn't yet available, no one can say for sure.
However, historically speaking, most upgrdes have been fairly seamless, with the most problems coming from configuration tweaks that you've made outside of Apple's tools.
For example, if you've customized your base apache or postfix configuration by hand those changes my not transpire, so a backup is always a good idea.

  • Will upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion delete my Windows partition (bootcamp)?

On my other computer I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, and the windows vista partition was completely deleted.  I was wondering if I upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion on my other mac with Windows 7 will it be affected, or in other words, is Mountain Lion Bootcamp compatable with WIndows 7. Should I save it to an external hard drive?
    Thanks!

No OS X installer deletes a Windows partition automatically. There is no reason for a Mountain Lion installer to do so when upgrading from Lion.
Nevertheless, having backups is always a good idea no matter what. If you don't have them, then this is a good time for them.

  • Will upgrading from OSX Snow Lepoard to OSX Yosemite remove my Windows Bootcamp Partition?

Hello guys, so i have a question.
I am currently running OSX Snow Leopard, and i want to upgrade to OSX Yosemite, but i'm scared that upgrading to Yosemite will erase my Bootcamp partition.
so, Will upgrading to Yosemite kill the partition? or will it save it, so that after Yosemite is installed, i can still dual boot into Windows 7?
    Thanks

Also backup your OS X volume.
Windows has built-in backup software. You could also try WinClone X.

How to upgrade from LMS 3.0 December 2007 update to LMS 3.1 or LMS 3.2. The problem is the large number of C2960S-24TS-L  switches that my organization has and cannot managed them..
I tried to upgrade devices through Software Center but always Ciscoworks informs me with the following message.

Also i can not run EOL/EOS inventory report. The message is
" INVREP0102: Cisco.com user credentials are invalid. Enter correct credentials." I check my credentials and is right.
The server  has access to www through proxy without any restrictions.
In the past I've already updated devices through the software center. Also in the past i ve run EOS/EOL inventory reports.

Has anyone knows what can be the problem??.
    Thanks

    Hi,
the problem to access cisco.com is because of a "bug". Its ID is CSCto46927.
    http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCto46927
    Symptom:
After the 16th of June 2011 LMS will no longer  be able to download Software and Device Package updates, or PSIRT and  End of Sale/Life information from CCO
    Conditions:
Hosted  services in Cisco.com that are being leveraged by LMS, for downloading  the latest Software and Device Package updates, as well as the PSIRT and  End of Sale/Life information are being migrated to a new framework and  the old services will be retired.
This will affect all LMS 3.x and 4.x versions.
Refer to https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-16806 for more information
    Workaround:
Users of LMS 3.2.1 , 4.0 should install the patch that can be downloaded from cisco.com
Users of earlier version will need to upgrade to LMS 3.2 and then install the LMS 3.2 SP1 patch set before installing the patch"
Because of that it is necessary to upgrade not only to 3.1 or 3.2, you need 3.2.1 to get the patch and then access to cisco.com again.
The question about the better way for updating I can't answer. I did a update to 3.1 and then to 3.2. But I think you will find the requirements for the updates in the notes for them.
But I can't find LMS 3.1 in the cisco download center. There is only 3.2 and 3.2.1 available for me.

  • Is it still possible to upgrade from cs5 web premium to cs5.5 ?? If so, where and how?

I can't find any reference regarding upgrading from cs5 to cs5.5
My reason is so i can install the DMXzone Bootstrap extension which requires Dreamweaver cs5.5 (11.5)
    Can anyone help please?

CS5.5 is no longer sold by Adobe so you can no longer upgrade to it.  You can upgrade to CS6 since that is still being sold.

  • Just upgraded from OSX 10.7.3 to 10.7.5. Safari no longer works

I just upgraded lion OSX 10.7.3 to 10.7.5 using the Software Update. All is fine except for Safari. When I try to use Safari, it crashes.  The Safari app in Applications shows that is is dimmed out with a bar through it. Clicking on it I get the messge:
You can't use this version of the aaplication Safari.app with this version of Mac OS x
You have Mac OS X 10.7.5. The application requires Mac OS X 10.8 or later.
It is impossible to remove the Safari app, and so it does not allow reinstalling any other version of Safari.
How can I fix this problem?

Download and install OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo). This should fix your problem.
Your copy of Safari did not get updated which is the reason for the problem.

  • Will HP provide a BIOS with integrated Touch Keyboard for Tablets like Split x2 and Spectre x2?

I'm wondering how useful a tablet may be, if you like to encrypt the drive but the BIOS has no integrated touch keyboard.
Will the ODM Wistron provide an update for that problem or did we have to wait for HP?
Any other solutions available? NFC-like authorization?
I do not want to attach the keyboard each time to enter the PIN for Bitlocker.

I remember a message, where someone said that if you use the UEFI mode with the HP Split 11 tablet together with Win8.1 / Bitlocker and the latest BIOS upgrade from HP, that Windows will display a pre-boot on-screen keyboard. I thought that this will also work with the Elitepad or that this tablet has a special HW-Encryption feature.

question, is it best to restore a backup from my 5s or, set up as a new phone. I have all my stuff in the cloud and also subscribe to iTunes match.

I have to agree with Alfred above. I had an iPhone 4 and set up my 6 as a new one. I did it in steps, getting the basic stuff like email and iCloud set up first, then adding apps, and finally loading all of my music. I feel it was worth the investment in time as I did not end up not migrating quite a few apps from the 4 to the 6.
Thinking about it, I'm not sure I could have done it from a backup since the 4 wasn't running (and can't run) iOS 8. In any case, it was never on my radar.
