Will upgrading to mountain lion mess up my both camp partition?

I was just getting ready to update to mountain lion and I was wondering if it would delete my windows partition?

It shouldn't. But we are taking about computers and anything can happen.

  • Will upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion make my Lion Time Machine Backups unusable?

I had a situation where when I upraded to Lion from Snow Leopard, my Time Machine Backups became unusable. It says that the Backups were not compatible and it was really frustrating because I had to delete my backups from Snow Leopard and re-backup from my Mac with the newly installed Lion.
Will this happen if I upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion? Has anyone had trouble from this upgrade to Mountain Lion. Has your Time Machine backups been working fine with the new operating system?
    Thanks!!

Will upgrading to Mountain Lion erase all my files? And can't I only backup my home folder from Time Machine anyways? As long as I don't use Migration Assistant to restore the System files.
But yeah, will upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion erase all my files and accounts?
    Thanks!!

  • Will upgrading to mountain lion format my mac

Hi, Mountain Lion has finally been released, I need to know will upgrading to mountain lion format my hard drive, or will it ask me if I want to format or just replace mounatin lion with Snow Leopard, thanks.

It will replace Snow Leopard with Mountain Lion.  You won't be asked about erasing.
However, you should make sure your backups are updated, just in case something goes wrong.

  • Will upgrading to Mountain Lion delete MS Office?

I have MS Office installed on Lion OSX and I am really worried about what will happen once I upgrade to Mountain Lion. Will I lose the installation? Will I have to reinstall from the disc? Or will office survive the upgrade and appear in Mountain Lion?  I lost my disc a long time ago. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro.

Yes it is compatible so with will not delete it or render it unusable.
See this article to make sure you have 2008 or later.

  • I have a macbook, 2Ghz 10.5.8 which is running out of room. Should I add all memory I can and will upgrading to mountain Lion use that all up before i even begin?

I have a macbook using 10.5.8, 2 Gb memory which is running out of room. I use it mostly for photos/videos. How much memory can i add and when i upgrade through snow leopard to mountain lion what will it cost andwill that use up all the newly added memory?

You can put in any 2.5" form factor SATA drive that is 9.5mm or less in height. For RAM we need to know whether you have the 2.0 Ghz or 2.13 Ghz processor model 5.2 MacBook. The model 5,2 (Early 2009, 2.0GHz Model Only) can use 6gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM. The model 5,2 (Mid 2009, 2.13GHz Model Only) can use 6gb of 200 pin 800mhz PC2-6400 RAM.

To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application SuperDuper. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html  You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.

If you don’t have the tools to open up the MacBook OWC has a set for $5

  • Safari has stopped working properly since upgrading to Mountain Lion.  Have parental controls in place and it will not add websites.  Also short cuts at top of tabs now all messed up!

Since upgrading to mountain lion the other day (from lion) safari has not been working properly.  I have parental controls in place but seem unable to add new web pages to allowed list - wasn't expecting to have to anyway - these are webpages that were working perfectly well on safari prior to upgrade.  Also the shortcuts above the tabs on safari are all now messed up.
Any advice on how to fix - I am not a computer expert so keep it simple please!
In the meantime I am having to use Firefox.
    Thanks

  • I need to upgrade Snow Leopard to get icloud before my mobileme expires at the end of June.  If I buy Lion, will I be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion free when it comes out?  When is MLion going to be released in UK?

I am running Snow Leopard and have a Mobile Me account.  My Mobile Me account expires at the end of June.  I have been told that I will need to buy the Lion upgrade to run icloud on my imac, but I am aware that Lion is due to be replaced by Mountain Lion this summer.  I don't want to have to buy two up grades!  Will Mountain Lion be released before my mobile me account expires?  If not and I buy the Lion upgrade, will I be able to upgrade it to Mountain Lion, free, in view of the fact that I will only have had Lion for a very short time and could not avoid this purchase??????

    HI...
We have no way of knowing exactly when Mountain Lion will be released. Most likely, if you upgrade to Lion now you'll be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but the actual minimum requirements are unknown at this time.
Lion is only $29.99 plus any applicable taxes and fees and available from the App Store, or you can purchase the thumb drive > OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive - Apple Store
Make sure your Mac meets Lion's requirements.
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space

If I upgrade to Mountain Lion on the computer that will install it, will my WIFI still work on the computer that cannot be upgraded? I know this is a very basic question. Trying to hold out as long as I can, but purchasing an iPhone for Christmas and new iMac next year when warrently expires.

Thank U very much for the quick reply, I wanted to upgrade this weekend, but still on the fence. I can live with the software that is not compatible, they are on another compuetr, just didn't want the obvious stuff to stop working.

  • If I upgrade to Mountain Lion on my iMac will I be able to open my Photoshop CS4 in order to resize

If I upgrade to Mountain Lion on my iMac will I be able to opwn my Photoshop CS4 in order to resize and adjust RGB of photos of my artwork? I use the Photoshop for very little else at this point in time.
    Thank you

    Hi Veraforvictory,
There are no known issues affecting compatability with OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and Photoshop CS4. As always, make sure you back up your hard drive before you update your operating system, but there should be no problem using Photoshop CS4 when you upgrade!

  • Will Photoshop CS6 work with Snow Leopard or must I upgrade to Mountain Lion on the Mac Book Pro?

I will be purchasing PhotoShop CS6 & installing on my Mac Book Pro. Adobe tells me that I should upgrade to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard in order for it to work best. Any thoughts on this? Thank you, Paul

You can use it on Snow Leopard without any problem. However, Apple updates graphic drivers and more things, so it could run better on Mountain Lion, but as I said, if you don't want to upgrade, keep on Snow Leopard because it will run properly.
Probably, Adobe is referring to the fact that Photoshop could be working in 32-bit because the kernel on Snow Leopard starts into 32-bit by default, and Mountain Lion is a 64-bit operating system. In this case, you will see an improvement

  • MacBook7,1 Will not boot after upgrading to mountain lion

I have a MacBook7,1 with 2GB of memory and the NVIDIA GeForce 320M with 256 MB.  I just upgraded to Mountain Lion.  However, when it tries to boot it comes up, shows the apple and then restarts.  It does this continuously.  Every once in a while I can login but shortly there after it reboots.
I booted from a DVD and ran the Disk Utility.  I am able to verify disk permissions and verify disk with no reported issues.
From what I can tell my MacBook is a supported model but it sure does not seem like it.
Any suggestions of anything else I could try and/or check would be greatly appreciated.

    I suggest:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • I upgraded to mountain lion from snow leopard, now my photo studio software is no longer supported by powerpc. Does anyone know of a fix so my photostudio will work?

I upgraded to mountain lion from snow leopard, but now some of my applications do not work, most specifically I would like to use my photo studio, but now it tells me that powerpc is no longer supported.  Does anyone have any fixes to this problem? I would really like to continue to use software that I already have! Thank you for your help!

PPC software will not work in Mountain Lion because there is no longer any Rosetta emulator. You will only be able to run your older software by creating another partition on your hard drive on which you can install Snow Leopard. It need not be a large partition since you can still keep your files and programs on the main partition. You could also install Snow Leopard on an external drive from which to boot the computer.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
After you create the new partition boot the computer from your Snow Leopard DVD and install Snow Leopard onto the new partition.
