Is it safe to use the USB port in my car to charge my iPhone 5s or do I need to buy a car charger?

Check car manual to see if it supports charging ,some do not
or use a USB 12 volt plug in for the "cigarrette lighter" socket and plug into that ,probably a better solution

  • Does anyone know how much energy is consumed for charging a iphone?

Hi, does anyone know how much energy is consumed for charging a iphone???
4W? how much does it cost??
Is there anyway I can test and check how much electricity I have been used for charging a iphone?
    Thanks a lot!

Thank you very much for all your replies.
I am wondering if there is any application for iphone which can alarm or help me to know how much energy I have been consuming while charging, or using different applications. or even, if there is possibility of designing one with that function?
I am currently working on a project which is about the energy consumption of iphone applications. I have been working on my iphone (a 2 years old iphone 3G) and tried to find out the top 100 applications which consume the most electricity. Any suggestions or ideas?

  • Why is the ios6 compatible for all the iphones but not all the phones got the all upgrades, for example the panorama camera??

why is the ios6 compatible for all the iphones but not all the phones got the all upgrades, for example the panorama camera?? this is another reason I am starting to dislike apple. An ipod is able to us an upgrade but not all the phones are? makes sense

"why is the ios6 compatible for all the iphones"
Ios 6 is not available for all iphones. Original Iphone and iphone 3 are not supported.
"but not all the phones got the all upgrades, "
This is common for most any device/computer.  Not all iphone/computer/device models can handle all of the new features.  Like any device, hardware is limited and cannot always support all new features and software.

  • Can Apple USB AC adapter be used to charge other things?

Sorry for the slightly odd question. I'm hoping someone who knows their electrical engineering can help me out.
I have an older Apple USB iPod AC Adapter (not the current compact one.)
Can it be used to charge a Nintendo DS Lite?
I'm traveling to Thailand soon, where outlets are 240V, but the supplied DS charger only goes up to 120V. Instead of buying and bringing along a whole other adapter, I'd rather use what I already have.
I do have a DS-to-USB cord to plug into the Apple adapter. The Apple AC Adapter's output specs are 5.0V, 1.0A. The specs on the charger that comes with the DS are 5.2V, 450mA.
However, the specs on other 3rd party adapters for the DS Lite that I looked at all seem to match the Apple adapter. Is there anything about the Apple adapter that would prevent it from doing the job or differentiates it from other adapters? Would I be damaging the DS by charging it a couple of times with this adapter?

    Isra--
The adapter will fit. The question is, the charging needs for the DS are close. It might not charge as fast. That's what I'd be checking, and since I don't have a DS, I can't look to see. You want to make sure the two devices have the same approximate charge needs.
You might try charging it at home to see.
Personally, I would think that the cost of the travel cable far outweighs the cost of a new DS.

  • I am going to France. Is there an adaptor for charging my iPhone in Europe?

Is there an adaptor so I can charge my iPhone in Europe?

If you are using the Apple supplied iPhone charger, you will simply need a plug adapter(s) for the AC power system in Europe

  • What is the safe voltage range for charging my iphone

I tested a USB Car charger that I had, and it was putting out 5.68V.  Is that safe to charge my iPhone 5 with?  I thought it was supposed to be 5V.  I don't want to screw anything up.
    Thanks!

    Joe Z in VA wrote:
All chargers are certified and regulated to hold a maximum output of 5V. Specific chargers modeled for higher power devices including iPads hold a maximum output of 10V but can take 5V instead.
A difference of 0.68 more won't hurt the device much, despite that you used a tester.
You are confusing your V with W
    Iphone uses 5V 1A ( 5w)
    iPad uses    5V  2A (10w)
Not all chargers are certified Branded ones may be most far east copies definately not
hence my reference to premium Brands

  • The USB Power Adapter NOT working for 3rd Gen iPod touch!?

    Hi Apple dudes
    Well.. Look here:
    http://store.apple.com/dk/product/MB051ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA4NA&mco=MTEyNjA0NTg
As you can see, the iPod Touch 3rd Gen (I got 32 GB, 3rd Gen) isn't listed as a compitable device.. So now I don't know whether to believe the text or the compitable list.. I really don't wanna wasted an already outrageous price on a simple thing like a adapter - And really, what's up with you NOT being able to charge your iPod from a regular USB power adaptar - NOOOOO, it HAS to be the APPLE-MADE one, cause it's soooo white.. Yes, I'm frustrated, 'cause my first time with an Apple product hasn't just been as your slogan says: "It just works!".. Nop.. Problems, confusing software, and you wouldn't even let me now that my username was already taken when I creted this account. Come on... Took me several "Create now" and Browser-switching to figure it out..
Sorry for this aggresive ending, I hope you can help me with my problem after all
    Regards

    Alex:
    Welcome to the  forums!
I can't help you with things like user names. Apple handles that; I'm an Mac/iPod user, not an Apple employee.
Tech specs for the unit you have can be found here: http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/specs.html. And, based on the back view (4th image) on the page you listed, I'd say you could use it for your iPod, because you should have the USB charge-cable that came with the iPod. (The one that plugs into the computer, and hence, into the back of the charger.)
However, I'm not an expert in European iPods, being American.
As for software...Apple software, if you're used to using Windows, takes time to get used to. I'm still finding things out, and I switched a year ago. It takes a little time.
    Best of luck--

  • Will USB power adapter work overseas?

The Apple Store says it works in US, Canada and Japan, etc., where they use two prong plugs. Will it work along with an Apple travel adapter in places like New Zealand where they use 3 prongs and 220 V?

The wall charger works on 110 or 220 VAC. However, depending upon where you are you may need an adopter to match the plug configuration in a particular location. Apple sells this. Note it has six adopters but also includes the wall charger and other things.

  • Does USB Power Adapter heat up when charging Touch?

Anyone out there using this to charge their Touch? I read some scary reviews that said the cable heats up and even started a fire for one user. Seems that Apple would be on top of this. Curious....

I have never had an overheating problem with it.

  • Any good chargers or dual-use cables for charging an iPhone 4S (30-pin) and iPad 4 (lightning)?

    Here is the situation:
A sick friend lies in bed most of the time and has her iPhone 4S (30-pin) charging cable connector within reach. She now also has an iPad 4 (lightning connector).
We are looking for a good charging solution which doesn't require multiple chargers or getting up and replacing the cable in the adapter.
We know we can use the same adapter for the iPad 4 and iPhone 4S, but the cable/connector is different.
Is there a good single cable with both kinds of connectors on the end?
Or would a connector adapter be easiest?
Or is there some cool charging unit which can do both at the same time?
    Thanks,
    Doug

Your only two choices, that I can think of, is to use an adapter. I have a third party one that I got at Office Depot that has micro USB on the end, with a lightning or 30 pin that I can swap out. And there are cables that are dual ended...as in the adapter is attached and can be plugged/unplugged but are still part of the cable.
For third party I'd suggest to stick to well known names, Targus, Zagg, Kensington, Belkin etc for your shopping. THose companies have most likely, gotten permission from Apple to make accessories.
The only other option I can think of is to use a longer extension cord to put the power block near your friend's bed, which will then allow her to plug in the appropriate cable to charge the appropriate device.

  • Is there some type of solution for charging multiple iphone 4s at once?

Is there a gadget or charging station for a home with multiple iphone 4 users and ipod touch that helps eliminate all the chargers on the kitchen counters?

  • When will Apple support a sync feature for itunes and iphone?

Anyone know when Apple will support a sync feature for iTunes 11.1.1 and iOS 7.0.2? Its been a few weeks since iOS 7 was released and I still can't sync between my phone and computer.
I'm curious if the lack of communication means they aren't interested in bringing this function back.

Not sure what the sync problem is, but see Restore podcasts deleted by iTunes 11.1... for some advice on that issue.

  • Will apple offer split screen multitasking for ipad and iphone 6 plus?

I Have a 4s and want to upgrade.  Currently thinking I will go with note 4 because of the splitscreen multitasking that they offer, however I would like to stay with apple as I have several iPads.  Can anyone advise whether this will be available on the 6 plus with a near future release or if there is something I can do to make this work without affecting warranty etc.
Thank you so much for your assistance!

Nobody here has any inside information of what Apple might or might not do in the future. We are users like you. If you decide to hack or modify your device in any way you will void your warranty.
Apple does not panticipate in this forum and they do not monitor it. If you wan to give Apple feedback about possible future features, you can do it here:
