Will using Myriad Pro help keep filled files small?

I am a newbie as far as LiveCycle goes and have a problem with a form I created growing to 10 times the intial size because I used our company standard font Century Gothic throughout the document. If I change all the fields to Myriad Pro (the default), will I run into the same problem? I have some users with Acrobat Pro X, but more who would just be using the latest version of Reader to fill and save their forms. Any/all guidance welcomed.

Fonts should have nothing to do with file size.  But, try it and tell us if it still happens w/Myriad Pro.

  • A question regarding using Myriad Pro as a web font...

Okay so this is a pretty straight forward question (I think)...
I've been using sIFR to replace many of the typical web fonts on the sites I build since much like everyone else I'm sick of being restricted to using only certain fonts.
Myriad Pro is one of the many fonts I really like for building websites. I discovered recently by accident that Myriad Pro (and a few other variants in the Myriad Pro family) are part of Adobe Reader. This means that ANYONE who downloads Adobe Reader has Myriad Pro installed on their system and probably doesn't even realize it.
Having discovered this it has come to my attention that there is a decent possibility I could use CSS and have Myriad Pro as a web font without even having to render it using sIFR. The problem is that anyone who doesn't have Adobe Reader installed wouldn't see the nice Myriad font.
So my question is what do all of you guys think about this? Does anyone have any actual numbers in regards to how many people actually have Adobe Reader? If it was a higher percentage like 90% then I think this would be a safe solution.

I don't know how many people use Adobe Reader, although I would think it's a fairly high proportion. Perhaps not as high as 90%, though. However, there's nothing stopping you from using Myriad Pro as the first choice in a font-family declaration. Browsers use the first available font. You could use something like this:
    body {
      font-family:"Myriad Pro", "Gill Sans", "Lucida Sans", Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;

  • Will Photo Library Manager help without library file

I recently upgraded to Leopard and added ilife to upgrade my iphoto from a reeaaally old version. I imported photos from the old version and Iphoto was working fine a couple weeks ago. Today, however, when I tried to open it, I got the Choose Your Library message. There is no library listed, nor can I find one. I have not done anything to iphoto or the library file since it was last opened and working fine. Will Photo Library Manager help if there is no library file? Is the albumdata.xml file in the iphoto database or is it somewhere else in my computer? Surely the files are there somewhere! What else can I do? I have a back-up but it has run since I last opened iphoto and I can't find a library file in there either. What is the library file called? Maybe I'm not looking for the write thing...
Thanks for your help. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Did you use Spotlight to try to find your library. If the library was inadvertantly moved to certain areas of the HD Spotlight will not find it. Download and run Find File to search for "Library6.iPhoto". If you get a hit it's a good chance it's the library. Good Luck.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Using episode pro to do flash file

I am using episode pro in compressor to do a flash file, but on the lower third of a name banner with a red lower third, with a name caption on top, the name caption has shifted up and off the red background and now is not in line. ( its mpved the text up 1 cm from where it should be )
any ideas why? the sequence on fcp is all looking correct.

Yes it is. I have the HC1's bigger brother the prosumer HVR-A1U and I just received my universal final cut studio yesterday and just played a little, but yes it can. I have the 17" MBP and have both played high def. H.264 quicktime movies on it and have also imported some HDV content and that too plays fine. The only problem I have is that I went with the 7200 RPM drive so that I can edit on the go with just my laptop, but between the system software, and my document from my current machine, I was down to barely any space available. What I'm gonna do now is keep my old machine and the documents on that, and so I can keep the majority of my HDD open for video editing.

  • Using QT Pro to strip .mov files

I've connected my eMac to my pc via ethernet, so that I can send uncompressed .mov files to my pc, which has a huge HDD and a dual-layer burner, and burn them to dual-layer Disk there.
I've been told that QT Pro can remove the "packaging" from a .mov file, leaving a pure dv video file, which can then be edited and/or burned to disk.
Before I send away for QT Pro, can anyone tell me how to do this? Is it 100% effective? Does it result in full dv- quality burns?
    Thanks,
    Kurt

Maybe "stripped" isn't the right word. KS pointed out that iMovie places video files in a "container" called .mov. Which is simply to say that they have the extension "mov".
What he means, I guess, is that QT Pro can Save .mov files as pure DV files.
If that's the case, then I don't need an answer to this question. I guess...

  • Will i be able to keep my files on my mac if i upgrade to leopard?

Can anyone help because the information on the internet is confusing. Should I backup before I transfer and if so, what is the best and cheapest option? Thanks everyone.

Yes. If you use the Upgrade install on Leopard your files will not be touched.
Also, if you do an Archive and Install and preserve user settings, your files will remain in place.
I would purchase an inexpensive external HD and backup everything before installing Leopard.

  • Will using a microphone help my ICD-AX412 in this occasion?

So I understand that using a lavalier microphone helps improve the quality of the sound, mostly because you can attach it to your collar to better capture the voice. However, would it improve the quality of my voice recording if both the recorder and the microphone are together in an enclosed space?
I ask this because I need to record while having my recorder in my backpack, for reasons. It works decently enough but I am wondering if a microphone in there would improve the quality or not.

Just take note of these general guidelines in order to get audio quality recordings from the IC Recorder:
Verify that nothing is rubbing up against the microphone when recording.
Verify that the unit is not placed near an AC power source, fluorescent lamp or a cellular telephone when recording.
    Ensure fresh batteries are installed.
Use a can of compressed air to blow into the built-in microphone to remove any built up dust or dirt.
If an external microphone is being used, verify that the microphone is clean by wiping it with a dry, lint free cloth.
Reset the unit by removing the batteries for at least 1 minute.

  • Help keeping .zip files

When I double-click on a zipped file, it unzips okay but something is deleting the .zip file.  I recall a recent update to Apple's Archiver but I cannot find it to be able to check the Preferences.  Somthing tells me this app or whatever is the problem child.
Where can I change the preference so it unzips but retains the zipped file.

    >robably the easiest thing to do is to select a .zip archive, get info (Cmd-I), unlock if necessary, then under "Open with" select StuffIt Expander and click Change All. From then on, StuffIt Expander will be the default app to open all .zip archives.
Worked perfect.  Thanks.  The Apple OS X Finder Development Team did us no favor by forcing the unzipped file to trash without a user Preference file
Your tip is a good workaround until the design defect is corrected.

  • Will using iTunes "Erase & Sync" erase disk files too, or just songs?

Basically had to reinstall windows, backed my songs up back onto my computer, and put them back in iTunes library. Was going to "Erase & Sync" since they have the same songs in them anyway, but I just want the songs replaced so that my iPod and new iTunes are synced again.
I have important files backed up onto my iPod disk space, and I dont want them to be erased as well.

  • How to keep project files small

I'm a veteran Windows and Adobe Premiere user, so I come to iMovie with that frame of reference. One thing that Premiere does that it doesn't seem that iMovie does is keep the video files separate from the project file. I captured 2 hours of a 8 mm video into iMovie. It was 24 GB. I want to create a DVD out of the entire 2 hours, but to practice, I wanted to work with only about 10 minutes of it. So I put a clip on the timeline, cut it down to 10 minutes, deleted all the clips from the clip window and saved it. The file size is 24 GB.
In Premiere, all source videos are in the format they were captured in. Within a project file, you point to the source video but it doesn't get saved with the project file. Therefore you can have lots of project files (all of which are small) but only one source video file.
Is there any way to have a second iMovie project point to another project and use it as a source? Or do you always have to save the source video file with the project file?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Hi Mike, welcome to the discussion!
do you always have to save the source video file with the project file?
Your observations are spot on. iMovie HD does not "share" source files. Each project has its own files that it stores in the Media folder inside the project. As video/audio is imported to the project -- from a camera or elsewhere -- it is copied directly to the project.
(The project is not a file. It is actually a package, a special kind of folder. To look inside the package, Control-click on the project icon and choose "Show Package Contents" from the popUp menu that appears. The source files are in the Media folder.)
iMovie HD does non-destructive editing -- Media files are never modified -- so projects tend to stay large. Emptying the iMovie trash may discard clips, but not necessarily reduce the size of the project.
It helps to know how things work. Understanding the iMovie trash is important.
Media files that support the clips are never modified. In your project, you have a single 120 minute Media file. If you discard 110 minutes of your project, emptying the trash does not reduce the size of the project because of non-destructive editing. iMovie ALWAYS lets you restore that 10 minute clip back to 2 hours -- even if you Copy and Paste the clip into a different project.
The Media file itself is discarded only when the LAST clip using that Media file is discarded. If no clip uses the file when you empty the trash, it is discarded.
(In an extreme situation like yours, one option is to export the 10-minute clip to its own file, then import that file back into the project. Now you can discard the 2 hour clip.)
Note that for a project like yours, iMovie 6 has a feature that helps minimize the impact of this feature. Instead of importing the video as a single 2 hour clip, there's an iMovie 6 preference to tell iMovie to break up the video in 1 minute scenes (or whatever duration you want.) In your case, discarding 110 1-minute clips would, in fact, remove them from the project. Each clip would be the sole clip using its Media file, so discarding a clip would discard its Media file too.
This scene preference can be useful for projects like yours where scene changes aren't automatically detected as the video is imported. On modern camcorders, iMovie optionally starts a new Media file -- a new clip -- at each scene break. Later, when you discard that clip, its Media file goes out with it.
As you Copy and Paste clips from one project to another, iMovie applies the same rules as importing. Copying a clip and Pasting it into another project copies its entire Media file to the project.
That happens each time you Copy and Paste a clip. It's important, therefore, to Copy and Paste all the clips you want at the same time. Then iMovie figures out which Media files need to be copied and copies each one just one time. Otherwise, if you Copy and Paste clips separately, iMovie may copy that Media file again.
Note that the Pasted clip inherits all the non-destructive features it has in the original project.
There's pros and cons to this whole approach, of course. One important pro is that you don't have to worry about accidentally discarding a video file in a central cache that the project relies on. Non-destructive editing also helps avoid corruption problems that plagued earlier versions of iMovie as Media files were modified.
Fortunately, as FireWire drives have become cheap the problem isn't so much of a problem when you think about it.

  • How does I resize a pdf file page using Acrobat Pro?

In Acrobat Pro, how can one resize a pdf file page (21.38'' x 26.75'') into one measuring 6'' x 9'', to be submitted as the trim size? Is there a feature that allows this to be done? How does one set all print options from the Application print dialog box to enable one to adjust the dimensions of any customized file page?

I want to scale the 21.4'' by 26.8'' content down to one that can be fitted inside a 6'' by 9'' book.
I have this pdf that was created from the InkFlow app, and I'm using Acrobat Pro to merge three files into one (about 300MB), which I needed to submit to Amazon's CreateSpace, but they needed the trim size of 6'' by 9'', while the pdf is 21.4''' by 26.8'', and I can't amend the source file size of the InkFlow files.
I tried fiddling with the Crop and Print options, but I'm unable to resize the pdf to match the trim size. The problem on my side isn't so much on printing but to resize the pdf file page to 6'' by 9'' to satisfy Amazon's requirement for their trim size. Could this be done with Acrobat Pro? The message that appears is: Full print options of Acrobat Pro, set all print options from the Application print dialog box. Thank for the help.
