Will we see a retina display on iPad?

The next iPad will no doubt have a gyroscope, and probably a camera and facetime. But will we see a retina display on iPad in the next or even third or fourth gen? By my calculation, you'd need something like 23xx by 17xx resolution to get 300 dpi on the same screen size. It's probably prohibitively expensive with current tech.
As nice as the iPad screen is, I picked up a real magazine today and realize wow the iPad is still very far away from print quality, if Steve jobs can put a retina display in the next iPad, THAT would be revolutionary.

I don't think you even need to speculate on this to see it's very very very unlikely.
So the iPad display is 1024x768 and is 9.7" diagonal, right? So... what... you think Apple is going to be able to incorporate a 3072x2302 9.7" display panel AND bump up the CPU power enough to push all those pixels around? Guess what... Mac Pros ten times the volume and weight of an iPad would have trouble with that, and each of those superdense panels (assuming one can even be built) would cost thousands of dollars. Not to mention that even if you could physically fit all that in an iPad sized form factor, you'd still have to dissipate all the heat the processing would generate.
Oh... and even if you got past ALL those obstacles... today's batteries would last maybe an hour powering the mythica CPU/GPUs.
So I would say... not likely anytime soon.

  • IPad Air is Awesome - But how will i afford it ? Need an exchange offer for iPad with Retina Display to iPad Air in India

I have a iPad with retina display with me. We require an exchange offer for the new iPad Air in india.

Sell your iPad retina and use that money to offset the cost of a new iPad air.
And if your iPad retina works fine for your uses now, why not just wait - odds are there will be an iPad Air II or something new within a year or less anyway - any consumer electronic device gets replaced with a newer model in very short order anyway.  If you try to always have the very latest and greatest, you'll go broke (or nuts, or both).

  • Use 15 in. Retina Display with iPad

Is it possible to use an iPad as a second monitor with a 15 inch MacBook Pro with retina display?

I'm wondering if any of these Apps will work with the MacBook Pro. Looks like they should.
Since they work over Wireless, I doubt you would want to use them for fast action gaming, but as a second disply for regular things it might be handy (pallets, calendars, documents, web pages...)

  • Will the mini iPad Logitech keyboard fit the new retinal display mini iPad?

Will the new mini iPad fit the original mini iPad keyboard cover by Logitech.

There's a fraction of a millimeter between them. So if the case is hard molded plastic, probably not. But if it's a more forgiving case, like  a leather slip in case or the such, you should be ok.

  • Will my macbook pro retina display have problems later on?

Okay so I was eating salmon and had a small lemon wedge. I was putting the lemon on the salmon and some of the lemon juice got on the key board. I immediately cleaned it afterwards. I used cotton balls and q tips. I even look up on to remove the keys and cleaned it that way too. also the next day I got a alcohol wipe and wiped the key board too. The lemon juice had only a few droplets and mostly on the gray part of the computer. Maybe like 1-2 drops we in between the keys but right after i cleaned it with a absorbent cloth. Pleaseeee let me know if my macbook will have corrosion or something even worst! I am freaking out!

You're asking a question that nobody can answer.
    Keep a good thought!
    Good luck!

  • Has apple named the the new ipad(3rd gen ipad) ipad with retina display

Has apple named the 3 rd gen ipad ipad with retina display.

The iPad 3rd generation has a retina display, but it was sold for only a few months.  The iPad 4th generation also has a retina display and some of Apple pages refer to it as iPad with retian display. However, most of us in these forums refer to the various iPads as iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 3 or iPad 4.

  • Standard vs Retina Display?

    Which is better and why?

I had the same problem. I needed a new computer and had no retina screen nearby nor had an Apple store near.  LowLuster's advice is best if you are close to an Apple Store, and I really suggest checking out the retina display. It does add to the cost.
If you need a super powerful laptop, then the 15" retina with its separate graphics processor is worth the money.
But if you need a computer for applications that are simpler than working with Final Cut Pro X, maybe just for email and internet and iMovie...I have a friend who absolutely loves her non-retina macbook air.
My bottom line was my eye worked better with the retina, and I knew, after seeing the retina display do its magic with text, I would always feel disappointed in a new non retina screen, so  I saved my bucks and got the retina and never looked back.
We are not allowed to speculate here, but I think it is ok to point out that Apple will inevitably update more of its computers to the Haswell intel chip soon, and perhaps will add retina to more of its computers.
But as Lowluster pointed out, only your eye will be able to tell which is better for you.
Me, I will never own a non-retina computer again, as now all text looks fuzzy on a non-retina screen. It is like going back to non-hd tv. So for me, retina is perfect. And if you decide to go retina, don't forget that Apple sells refurbished computers that are warranteed like new.

  • Embedding Fonts in Epub - some don't display on IPad

I know that there are certain fonts that will not display on an epub file displayed on an Ipad. The InDesign file the fonts came from substituted the 2 missing fonts OK except one. If I look in the fonts folder from the epub the font is there it's also in the encryption.xml but I do not see the font displayed on IPad
    btw the font is

Sounds like you'll need to manually substitute a compatible iPad font...

I don't know anyone who has achieved a decent-looking MS Office display using a rMBP. Other apps use Apple's text rendering engine while MS uses its own, apparently (which is why the other 'office' apps look so good).
Give one of them a shot - from what I understand, both render wonderful looking text and menus/icons while MS Office has fuzzy toolbars and text.

  • Retina Display Resolution Settings & Limitations

Are there only five settings that will work for the Retina display?   Display > Resolution > Scaled options only include five clickable icons from "Larger Text" to "More Space"
Also, is there a way to change the choices from five cute pictures of text snippets to a list of actual pixel dimensions (e.g. 1920x1080, etc.)?
    MBPro mid 2012, OSX 10.8.5.

Check out Eye-Friendly Display Resolution Switcher in the App Store. It'll give you actual pixel dimensions as well as more resolutions to choose from, including native (if your eyes are sharp enough).

  • MBP's Retina display & Thunderbolt display?

I plan to upgrade from my MacBook to a MacBook pro and a Thunderbolt Display, need the large screen display and the portability.  Will the Thunderbolt display reflect the quality of the MBP’s Retina display?

I have that exact setup with a new MBP Retina and a Thunderbolt 27" Display. I love the setup. But, no, the Thunderbolt is not a Retina display. However, the size of the screen makes up for it with me. I'm sure that Apple will produce a Thunderbolt Retina display within the next year. Probably kinda pricey since the TD is already $1,000, thereabouts.
One thing I did have go wrong on the display was the "All-in-One" display cable which is a permanent cable mounted to the display (i.e. not replaceable by user) and which has two cable connector that connect to your computer (one for computer power and one for a Thunderbolt computer port). Either the cable or some electronics in the TD leading to the cable failed. My symptom was that video was just fine (fooling you to think all is well), but I lost external control to anything plugged into the ports on the display (USB, Ethernet, Firewire, etc). It was as if the hub inside the display wasn't being powered up or something, and it also did not show up on the System Information under USB. The work around was to unplug the Display Thunderbolt cable from the Computer and bypass it with a regular Thunderbolt cable between the computer and the empty display Thunderbolt port.
I love the setup now that my display works fine. One recommendation is to be sure and have an extra Thunderbolt cable on hand.
    Regards,
    Barry
