Will Windows 8 eventually fix itself?

Windows 8 and Photoshop aren't exactly best friends... a ton of people have been having problems with Photoshop, including me -- none of my blending modes have been working. Will Windows 8 fix the problem, and then suddenly everything will work again? If so, how long will this take, if you had to guess?
I've already tried to install some Intel pack, which didn't change anything, because my problem is not with the canvas or whatever everybody else has been struggling with -- it's the blending modes.
Thanks!

Generally speaking, Photoshop works fine with Windows 8 but the display drivers aren't all up to the task yet, and Photoshop uses the GPU for a lot of stuff.
What video card do you have?
You might find you can go into Edit - Preferences - Performance in Photoshop and disable the usage of GPU (the setting is called [  ] Use Graphics Processor in Photoshop CS6, and [  ] Enable OpenGL Drawing in earlier versions).  It's also possible that you might find things to work better if you leve the GPU enabled but change the advanced mode for it to a lower setting, such as Basic.
In a general answer to your question, yes, I imagine there will be updates through Windows Update and from Adobe that will correct the problems.  You may be able to accelerate the fix by visiting the web site of the maker of your video card and downloading their recent driver release (though I caution against this with ATI drivers right now - their latest aren't really too good).

  • Hi, my mac has recently been acting strange. First started about a week or so ago, where it was acting like it would get hung up; but would eventually fix itself. Now, I am having to restart it constantly just to entere a web address. Help please?

Can someone please help me to see if I can figure out what is wrong? I looked to see if there was any updates that I overlooked, however, it stated that all updates had been made. I am completely lost. Thank You.

You are in a situation where it may not be a big deal, or your hard drive could be failing and everything on your computer could be at risk. That means everything gets erased if you don't have a copy of it. You may want to make your first priority getting an external hard drive and making a copy of all your music, pics, movies, ect. while you still can, if you still can. It may turn out to not be a big deal, a directory issue or your'e out of space or something, but better to have a back up and not need it, than to lose everything that's important to you.
If you value your stuff, stop trying to use the computer and back it up, before you do anything else.
It sounds like you should then take it to an Apple Service Provider like an Apple Store.

  • Browser ocassionally opens as pictured below. After a few weeks it will fix itself, but in the meantime, I'm stuck with Chrome, Help!

    Windows 7, Firefox v22.0
Can't find the browse button referred to in "how to post a screenshot"????
So I'll try to describe it in a thousand words. It opens stretched vertically so that each section is about 3 times its normal height. Ergo, the bottom is off the page. Uninstalling worked once, but failed a dozen times after that. It will fix itself after a few weeks. Can't find a cause or cure.
Wish I could paste the screenshot.

You can't attach a screenshot to the first post that starts a thread, but you can do that in subsequent replies.
You can try basic steps like these in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

    JoBautista,
you still have the option (before your warranty expires) of purchasing an AppleCare Protection Plan, which will provide an additional two years of coverage. Once your warranty expires, you will no longer have the option of purchasing AppleCare.

  • ITunes 7 fixed itself!

I was having the static issue at first, like so many other people. Then I used the "volume slider all the way to the right" trick to fix it. Then I restarted, and it no longer worked, the static was back no matter where the slider was. I fiddled with the volume controls for both windows and itunes, played with the "safeout mode", but to no avail. I even uninstalled itunes and when I restarted my sound card disappeared from my listed components. I restarted and my sound card (Audigy 2 ZS) came back. I reinstalled itunes, and still was having the static issue. I started using media player for a while instead, and after a few days of shutting down and starting back up my computer, I retried iTunes this morning. Now it magically works! So I guess the overall answer to how to fix these itunes problems is dumb luck. Maybe just keep using it and it will fix itself for you guys too. Doesn't matter though anyway, I have a new Mac Pro on the way, hopefully I won't have issues with upgrading itunes on that (or it will just come upgraded and working).

    Very strange.
Ok you might want to clean out your temp folder before running the install. Then reboot and try to clean the rest in there.
Here is a more detail instruction for cleaning the temp:
Clean out your temp folders, Delete as much as you can in these folders except for the folders Cookies, History, Temporary Internet Files.
    a. C:\windows\temp (if one exists)
    b. C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp
Sometimes installers will pick up old files or won’t delete their temporary files.
Make sure you have the latest MSI engine.

Even though you shouldn't have to the VB script installer is here.

  • Hard drive has 'fixed' itself... can this last?

My iBook (G3, just over four years old) suddenly started making clanking and clicking noises, and 'hanging' while this was going on. It would do this for short periods, then longer periods, then finally it would turn itself off. I took it to a Genius Bar, where they said it was the hard drive dying. That evening it totally failed to reboot.
However, the next morning it booted fine. For the next day or so I got occasional clunking and clicking, but it seemed to work well for longer and longer periods. Now it's as if nothing ever happened.
    Can anyone suggest an explanation?
Should I assume that the hard drive (assuming that's where the problem was) is on its way out, or might it really have fixed itself?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for this. Everything is backed up. Unfortunately, a new hard drive will cost £220 sterling (around $400 US at the moment I think) to buy and intall - I've had two quotes, both around this price (including labour). Given that, I was thinking of buying a new machine - the cheapest MacBook, on the student deal Apple are offering until October.
So I guess my question is: should I hang on and see how much longer my HD lasts (could it be a year or more? or is that extremely unlikely? I've had no problems now for two days) or should I get the new machine while the deal lasts, on the assumption that the HD may have calmed down for now but will definitely act up again soon?
    Opinions welcome!

  • I'm having trouble upgrading to ITunes v12.0.1 with Win 7. Download progress bar stalls and eventually cancels itself. Have tried Tools -- Download Only, but same result. Have been using iTunes for 3  years without difficulty

I'm having trouble upgrading to ITunes v12.0.1 with
Win 7. Download progress bar stalls and eventually cancels itself. Have tried
Tools --> Download Only, but same result. Have been using iTunes for 3+
years without difficulty; I have lots of ram, hard drive and speed.
    Thanks for your input

One step listed in the link to "helpful" info, was (when Iooked 30 seconds ago), to search for and download the newest version of iTunes. I'm running iTunes on Win 7 machine and was prompted to update today, 10.22.2014, and did so without a problem. Having said that, however, it looks as though the latest iTunes (12.0.1.26) is finally doing what the last version refused to do, which is to actually fully populate all my playlists on my 6, but there is a hitch: 12.0.1.26 will NOT allow you to show the sidebar unless you click on "playlists," that is, you cannot keep it open all the time.
And, when plugging the 6 into the computer, the phone icon shows up but clicking on it does nada. What does work, for some strange reason, is clicking on the tiny icon (just under the "Store" menu link at top screen) which looks much like a tiny barrel, someone's idea of external drives, I suppose. The phone then comes up, with the list of stuff on the phone just under it where the sidebar used to be. Sync is now restricted to the lower right of the screen.
Apparently, you will also need to update your iPhone's software as well; some friends with the 4 and 4s, however, had troubles with them after upgrading. The message from Silicon Valley (I can see Apple from my backyard, ha ha) is apparently, "keep upgrading," folks, get rid of those old phones.

  • Msvcr80.dll error is this a bug.  Will Apple provide a fix?

I recieved a message for an updated version of itunes.  However, after installing the newer version, itunes stopped working and began sending a MSVCR80.dll error.   Is this a bug?   Is Apple aware of how many users this is impacting?   Will Apple provide a fix?  This is unacceptable.

  • When will Windows 7 and IE 8 compatability roll out?

If you look at this thread 'Xcelsius 2008 Fix Pack 3.1 (FP3.1) is now available'  there is a "upcoming major Xcelsius release" mentioned but no dates or timelines.  When is this going to happen and will Windows 7 compatability be part of that release?  I have customers right now that want to know, if they integrate some Xelcius dashboards into our web application, will this work in Windows 7 and IE 8.
I also noticed the expiration notice on 2008 Engage Server going away.  I have Xcelsius 2008 Engage (not the server version).  What is the estimated life cycle on it in light of the Server version going away next year.
P.S. I am aware of the XP compatability mode in Windows 7 but I have a hard time believing SAP would consider that a permanent solution.

    Hi Matt,
I understand you can't give any detailed timelines yet, as I can only assume you guys are still early in the development cycle for some of the fixes and updates required for Windows 7 and IE 8 compatibility.  My problem is I have customers that want a reporting solution integrated into the web application my company provides as a product.  We want to sell them on the idea of buying Xcelsius licenses and developing their own metrics reports that would seamlessly integrate with our application and we provide an API for them to do that right now.  It becomes a pretty tough sell when they ask about Windows 7 and IE 8 compatibility and I can't really tell them anything definitive other then  "I think SAP is working on that?".  Its not like were talking about an obscure OS and browser, this is Microsoft after all and its my understanding they have a bit of a following    .  I would, at the very least, like to be able to confidently tell my customers that SAP is commited to making sure Xcelsius 2008 Engage (or what ever the next version name is ) will be fully compatible with Windows 7 and IE 8 and that the long term plan is the end of this year? middle of next year? some other non-ridiculous time frame so I can assure them its not a waste of time waiting for this product to be updated?
You mentioned any SWF files we create (at least it was implied) should run as long as Flash Player 9 or later is installed? Is that truly the case? The reason I ask is the Adobe web site says the Flash Player 10 is compatible with both Windows 7 and IE8.  Is the only issue driving this compatability problem the version of the Flash Player installed, or are there still some pieces of Xcelsius that need to be rewritten to accomodate Windows 7 and IE8 regardless of what version of Flash Player is resident?  Bottom line is what can I tell my customers to reassure them this is the correct path forward for their reporting needs?
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Checking email, I get message that my password is invalid.  It is not.  Sometimes this 'fixes' itself.  How to correct?  Verizon says go to Apple.

How get my iPhone 3G to recognize my email password?  This happens occasionally and usually 'fixes' itself somehow.  But this time, I can't get the phone to accept my email password.

I really can't comprehend the logic that leads to believe that password for old apple id will come to e-mail for new id. Buy may be I just misunderstood something. Contact Apple for assist with password retrieval. If you can verify yourself as account owner they may be able to help you.

  • When will we get a fix for the Snow Leopard Compatibility issue??

When will we get a fix for the Snow Leopard Compatibility issue?
I am growing impatient not being able to use cross dissolve or titles.
Its going to be a pain having to back out to OS 10.5. This is beginning to be like Windows Vista.

You don't say what "..Snow Leopard Compatibility issue.." you're having.
My titles and Dissolves - and everything else - work perfectly with iMovie HD 6 and with iMovie '09 in Snow Leopard.
Perhaps you need to revert to QuickTime 7 ..just in case you over-wrote QT 7 with Snow Leopard's own QuickTime X when you upgraded to SL.
QT7 and QT X both sit happily alongside each other in Snow Leopard ..you might want to give that a try.
But I have no problem with any aspect of iMHD6 nor iM09 (..and no trouble with "stills"..) using Snow Leopard on a "late '08" MacBook Pro.
I haven't yet installed SL (Family Pack) on my Mac Mini ..I'll let SL throw away my QT7 on that, and will see if that causes any problems with iMovie. If it does, I'll then download and re-install QT7 and see if that fixes any problems. But don't hold your breath ..I may report back tomorrow, but today I'm pretty busy! I'll do my best, though..

  • Will a new computer fix the problem?

I currently have a Windows XP system from appx 2004 with PSE 3.0 on it. PSE 3.0 is no longer responding when I try to open the browser or editor or anything! the computer seems to be having other issues as well so I think its time to upgrade to a newer computer. When I last backed up my photos (44,000+) to an external drive, the PSE 3.0 was working fine.    If I get a new computer and install PSE 3.0 on the new computer and use my backup to load all my photos to the new computer..   will the PSE 3.0 load with all of the original tags from the photo browser?

I have never performed a backup with video files, as I don't have any.
Nevertheless, based on the way the PSE Organizer works, I am relatively certain that the tags for videos are included in the backup (as well as the tags for photos). I'm also relatively certain that both photos and videos are included in the backup. (Note: I am referring to backups made via the Organizer command File->Backup Catalog)
But the only way to know for sure is to cross your fingers and try it.
Best to start a new thread since your question has nothing to do with the original topic (will a new computer fix the problem)
