Will Windows install on an external with Leopard?

Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a firewire external hd to put Mac OS X Leopard on, but I want to know whether the external will be considered the 'internal drive' by Boot Camp. Any ideas?

Shame. I wanted to do the same as the OP and even went as far as installing 10.5 on an external drive only to discover that Boot Camp wouldn't let me partition it. I'm still not convinced that the latest version of 10.5 has ironed out all the Creative Suite issues so I'm still running 10.4 on my internal drive. Is there any particular reason why Boot Camp won't partition an external drive and are there any plans in the pipeline to change this?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. Make a backup of your files in Windows, and install Windows 8.1 as an upgrade. The Windows support software supports it without any issue, so if it is updated, you do not have to worry

Will icloud install on macbook pro with OS 10.6.8?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
iCloud is not an application you can download and install independently. It is part of the OS X 10.7.2 operating system. So in essence no you cannot use iCloud with OS X 10.6.8 on your Mac.

  • Will Windows Outlook clients be happy with Snow Leopard Server Mail Server?

Our network at work has a Windows SBS 2003 server - and 40+ XP PCs running office 2003 (and outlook 2003).
Can I set up Snow Leopard Server so that the Outlook 2003 clients will be able to use contacts, calendars and mail etc from the mac (mini) that we would purchase for this?
I'd love to get everyone on Mac here, but we can't cos our core application is windows only and we would still need the MSSQL server. I know - we could install parallels or virtualbox for the windows apps but that is extra expense, and tbh I don't think our users could cope.
    Thanks

For mail yes. For calendars you will need 'assistance' using 3rd-party applications or helper utilities. The iCal Admin manual has more details of what is available:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iCalServerv10.6.pdf
Page 12. For Addresses/Contacts consult the Address Book Server Admin Manual for more details:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/AddressBkServerv10.6.pdf
Page 12. I don't see anything specifically listed so you may have to search for these yourself unless someone else posts with something more specific that works?
If you're expecting Exchange-like functionality you will be disappointed. If you really must have the functionality you're used but also want to move to the mac platform a better prospect (IMO) would be Kerio Mail Server:
    http://www.kerio.com/connect
Depending on what other services you may or may not want you may not necessarily need OSX Server? Then again you could as easily install KMS on a Windows or Linux box instead. In which case why swop from Exchange?

  • Will Windows XP Home Edition UPGRADE with SP2 install?

Supposedly this disc can do a full install. I just wonder if it might create problems during installation with BC needing a previous Windows disc (does it actually require the disc to be inserted or just the key/sn?). I only ask because it could save $$ having to buy the full version. But I don't want to waste $$ on this if it doesn't install.

    Hi Sakahara,
the XP upgrade disc need indeed a previous Windows disc to be inserted during installation.
Or a previous Windows version to be installed prior to the upgrade.
It is not just entering a SN/key.
Since both is not possible with BootCamp, you can't use a XP upgrade disc.
With the Vista upgrade discs, this can be overcome with a sort of 'double'-installation of it, but this procedure does not work with the XP upgrade discs.

  • Will ML install wipe Apps from Snow Leopard?

Been at OS 10.6.8 too long for compatibility reasons that are now remedied--no longer are any PowerPC apps on my iMac listed in my equipment line below. I'm ready to move on.
However, I need to keep iDVD because I have tech-challenged relatives who cannot deal with online video, or are on very slow internet services that turns big files into poison for them. So we mail DVDs to them. I also need to keep iChat AV to help do remote maintenance on my mother--in-law's Mac that's 1500 miles away.
Is a special install option required to maintian these programs, or will the regular install procedure leave them accessible?
I've already checked that iDVD and iChat AV are compatible with Mtn Lion so it's now a matter of whether they are preserved.
    TIA....

The installer will only remove incompatible applications. There is no need to move it or try to "hide" it from the installer. However, you should always have a functioning backup.
iChat AV doesn't exist on Mountain Lion. It is now Messages. Also, iCal is Calendar and Address Book is Contacts.
Being that it is quite a jump from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, I would suggest creating a bootable Clone on an external drive so that you can boot to it if Mountain Lion doesn't float your boat. If you decide to revert, it is as simple as cloning the external to the internal. See Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper.

  • Install Screen Spanning Doctor with Leopard?

I have an iBook G4 (1.33 GHz PowerPC with 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM) running Leopard. I just bought an external monitor and would like to do screen spanning.
There is one way to install Screen Spanning Doctor that I know will work (boot iBook in Panther off an external Firewire drive, install the hack, then boot it into Leopard off the internal drive), but I don't want to do this if I don't have to.
Has anyone tried to install Screen Spanning Doctor (for the first time) on a machine running Leopard? If so, did it work? Thanks.

  • Windows Vista not working correctly with Leopard 10.5

I just updated my MacBook Pro 17" by installing Leopard 10.5xx (erased and installed), then used BootCamp to partition disk and install Windows Vista. In Windows, my volume control is on, but no sound. I just got the error, "This problem was caused by a compatibility issue between Intel 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9 and Windows Vista. Intel 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9 was created by Intel Corporation and is distributed by Apple Inc.."
I am having problems with drivers, and as I'm a new user to Mac/Windows, so I don't even know how to identify which drivers (on Leopard installation disk)I need. In Windows Device Manager I have something called "Human Interface" that needs a driver . . . but my computer can't find it on my Mac or on the disk.
I purchased extended AppleCare warranty, but don't know how to use it, and my 90 days is up so I can't call. Is this warranty strictly for hardware? I don't understand how to get the support/how to information I need; I'm a Windows user and find Apple's support confusing and indirect.
    HELP!!!

sorry, can't help, but you're definitely in the wrong forum. this is about mac os SERVER (not client) and your problem is related to either the hwardware you use or bootcamp.

  • Will my duel 800 G4 work with Leopard? Its fast than the 867 G4?

My duel 800 G4 was the top of the line when I purchased it, much faster than the 867 G4, which seems to be the limit on the new Leopard operating system. Will I still be able to upgrade? I have seen on other Apple forums many people asking the same question? I would appreciate any help.

Well, the minimum system requirements that Apple tells us really aren't always totally truthful. For example, they say OS 10.4 needs a minimum 256 MB Ram, and a DVD drive. That isn't true. I have tested this on a few different machines and found that the true minimum requirements are 192 MB for installation, 128 MB for running. On an ibook G3 500 mhz with 128 MB RAM, 10.4 ran surprisingly well. It was a little laggy of course, but it was stable and reliable. Also, you do not need a DVD drive, as you can use target disk mode to install the system from another computer (yes, the other computer needs a dvd drive...but I am speaking in specifics). What they say in their requirements is for the general public, but most of the time they aren't entirely dogmatic on those requirements.
If it were my guess, I would say 10.5 will probably run on your system. If they entirely cutoff installation based on clockspeed, I'm guessing some mac-hacker will figure it out.
Also, as far as your computer being top of the line "when you bought it"-that's the issue. Basically everyone's mac was top of line or near top of the line at it's release. But we all know the computer industry is not a slow moving market. Your computer can be outdated in a few months or a year. I helped a guy buy his first mac a few months ago (imac). 2 days later Apple released the new imac. That's the nature of computers. And you really can't expect Apple to keep supporting machines approaching 7 years old (my ol' Gigabit). They want to be at the head of the market, and pushing the old out is some times the only way to do it.
You always have the option to upgrade your system. Go and look at some cpu upgrade cards. They aren't all that expensive. For $400 I turned my dual 450 to a dual 1.4 Ghz (and don't forget the level 3 cache). Third party upgrades are what keep us old timers goin.

  • After fresh windows install, can't scroll with screen

Before my disk image got corrupted, I was able to scroll by dragging my finger down the screen (X230 Tablet), but now I can't. Does anyone know how I could get this functionality back?

    Hi Chromecarz00,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing an issue with Touchpad scrolling on your ThinkPad X230.
After installing the Windows have you updated all the required drivers for your system?
Because this kind of issue will occures only if you have not installed the driver, so I suggest you to download and install ThinkVantage system utility application and run it, this will scan for all the required application and drivers for your system.
Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please enter the MTM no. select the exact model.

  • Firefox upgrades will not install on my Mac with OSX 10.8.2, I am stuck on Firefox 13

I have a mid 2012 MBP with Retina display. When I try to install Firefox upgrades i Get the message that teh update will not be installed, are you running more than 1 copy of Firefox. This occurs no matter what I try even from a restart. Activity monitor only shows one copy of Firefox running
I reset Firefox to the default and that did not help, I started in safe mode and that did not help.

    Hi mike_bauer
If there is an issue with update or permissions the better, quickest and safest way is to '''download and install''' firefox:
    1. Download a copy of the latest firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    2. '''''Trash''''' the current Firefox application to do a clean install.
    3. Install the version that you have downloaded.
Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.

  • Install isight 1.03 with Leopard (10.5.4) OS ???

I have a NIB iSight camera which came with 1.02 software. The video works fine but the audio does not. It appears that I need to update the firmware in the iSight camera to 1.03 but the updater on the Apple support sight does not work with either 10.5.4 or 10.4.X software (the oldest that I have). Is there an easy work around here or do I have to go on the hunt for a Mac with 10.3 on it to do this update.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Phil

Thanks for the tip I have been searching for hours to fix this problem and installing the firmware has fixed for me but as you found there was no updater for Leopard until I found your post.

  • Facebook games 'FarmTown' & 'FarmVille' won't run. Flash 10 will not install and displays "incompatibility" with FFox

The games Farm Town and FarmVille partially load on Facebook. The message to update Flash Player is displayed. I clicked to update Flash player, but it would not install. A message displayed saying Flash 10 is incompatible with FireFox and would not install until FireFox was shut down.

    I have Windows XP.
In regards to my blank white page, the flash is now working again (Whether I needed to restart again or if it was a site thing).
And I'm not sure how to go about changing my display resolution with the browser, or know where to find it for that matter. Of course there's the one you can find in the control panel/display for the whole computer in general, but that doesn't do anything except make everything larger (Since I originally had it on the highest: 1024 x 768 pixels) and doesn't change the resize compatability for flash player at all.
Above is a screen shot of the jigsaw site I use (which is not the worst game resizing issue I've run into.) On the left side of the flash window, there are options to choose during game play, and the last option gets cut in half b/c the window won't resize correctly. And I haven't any idea if there are more options below it or not.
Below is one of the worst resizing issues I HAVE run into. I don't play farmville anymore since this problem, among it being boring, makes it literally impossible to play the game. I brought up the marketplace option since it's the most drastic. This is all of the flash game window, which would resize anything normally on my other computers, but the images get cut off along the sides with this one. I have tried playing this game on its home site, hoping that facebook was the problem, but it's the same issue there as well.

  • Do you think that there will be a new mac book with leopard in januarry.

When Mac OS X Leopard comes out in Spring 07 do you think there will be a new macbook. I am now debating over weather to buy my macbook now or later because i am worried that they will do what they did with the core 2 duo and make me able to get like a 2GB macbook for the price i payed for a 512MB macbook.
I know you might say "that you cant put a price on the extra 3 months" but i think that i really would want to wait. What do you recomend?? When Tiger was released was there a new macbook>>>>>?

I think the simple answer is "who knows?".
The Original MBP was launched Jan/Feb 2006 and updated to Core 2 Duo in November 2006. It's unlikely that a further upgrade will come within 6 - 9 months IMHO, but as I said at the very start, "who knows?'
If the computer you are considering will satisfy your computing needs now and into the immediate future (say 2 to 3 years), then make your decision based on that.
When I bought my first powerBook G4, it was updated 3 months later with faster processors etc, did I care? Nope. Why? Because the one I had was more gthan capable for my needs. It only slowed up too much a couple of months ago. I suspected a Core2Duo macBook Pro was due to be announced, so waited until it was and bought one to replace my 867Mhz PowerBook.
Frankly I don't care what Apple do with their new models now. I have a Mac Pro, I have a PowerMac G5 Quad and a MacBook Pro, I have no plans on buying any more computers for a couple of years or until the ones I have just don't hack it any more. Then I will be interested in what Apple are offering.
You have to understand that with Intel inside, as I have mentioned in a few threads previously, changes will take place quicker than they did with the PowerPC platform. They've got to since Apple now use the same insides as PC's do. This now makes them directly comparible. If you look at how fast PC's change, it will give you some indication of how quickly Apple will have to update their offerings to either stay ahead of or in line with other computer manufacturers offerings.
Technology always moves on. I buy when something is available that will more than meet my computing needs currently and for the foreseeable future (2 to 3 years on). I don't really care when an upgrade comes along and supercedes the specs on my machine. There's nothing you can do about it. Technology moves on.
Intel have already announced their Quad core technology, so I would guess somewhere down the line Apple will be offering Quad Core CPU machines. However, as the number of cores per chip increases, the Ghz per core drops, so you have to weigh up whether you want a Core 2 Duo running at 2.33Ghz, or a Quad Core running at say 1.6Ghz or less?
If you are worried about buying and then your system becomes outdated, metaphorically, by being upgraded shortly after, why not wait for the launch of the much rumoured Apple Super-Scooper Turbo Charged, time travelling MacBook UltraPro Extreme 332, a 332 core Intel CPU running at 2.0Ghz per core on a 15,000,000Ghz FSB. It will come with 500GB TDDR9 SDRAM (Turbo charged DDR9) and a 50TTB Hard Drive (Turbo charged seek time of -10ms - it accesses before you think about accessing it), graphics are based on holographic technology and no screen is needed, as the graphics are rendered in 3D above the system for true interactivity, also comes with THX certified Dolby 27.1 DTTS (turbo charged DTS with 27 channels). . .
But then that would be updated too of course. Oh well just accept what's on offer now and accept changes will always be made to further enhance and better current offerings. Alternatively just wait forever, eventually there will be a point where computers don't or can't be upgraded or updated to further enhance them. Not in my lifetime though.
