Will windows os under parallels migrate to new mac using migration assistant

I have been using parallels 7 with windows 7 on a 2008 macbook pro. I have gotten a new 2012 macbook pro and plan to use migration assistant. Will windows install without my having to call Microsoft? I also have Office 2010 and wonder if I need to call Microsoft to allow me to use it on the new MacBook?
I have made a clone of my older computer. I have done Time Machine also

Migration Assistant only migrates - it does not delete anything from the 'other' machine.
Good luck,
Clinton

  • Bootcamp and Windows 7 and 8 on the new Mac Pro (Dec 2013)

I want to install bootcamp on my new Mac Pro (Dec 2013).
Bootcamp says it supports Windows 7 and 8, but there is a bunch of new hardware with the new Mac Pro, so I am concerned about bootcamp support for it.
Are there any issues with Windows 7 Pro install?  How about Windows 8 Pro?

From what I see, only Windows 8 is supported on the new Mac Pro (Late 2013) with Bootcamp.

Will Windows 7 Builder Pac run on my Mac mini?

As long as it's 64-bit it should install OK, but you'd be in breach of the license agreement, a Windows System Builder Pack is licensed for system builders to include/install on a new system; a retailer is not supposed to sell System Builder Packs without the relevant hardware.

  • HT201456 I have tried to install Windows 8.1 64 on my new Mac Book Pro from a full install disc.

I have tried to install Windows 8.1 64 on my new Mac Book Pro from a full install disc. When I get the the choice of partitions to install Windows 8.1 on the Windows installer says that the Bootcamp partition is not valid.
Has anyone encountered the same issue?

BCA creates the partition as FAT, which the installer needs to format.

I have a G5 mac using ver 10.4.11 and a newer mac using ver 10.8.4 these are networked. using the new mac i looked up my my photo on the old mac. It then said you need to upgrade your library which it did. Now the old mac can not open the photos and say that I need to upgrade my I photo to a newer version. The old mac has no more support from apple in software update so I am not sure where I should go from here. can I use new soft ware with the old mac

The other part of the upgrade message was a warning that once you upgraded you would no longer be able to open the library with the old version which is exaclty what you did and what happened when you choose to continue
The iphoto library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library. Cancel or upgrade.
So now your choices are to not use iPhoto with the previous version using it onky with the newer version, restore your backup from before you did this upgrade or purchase iPhoto Library Manager and use it to rebuild the library using the older version of iPhoto (instructions are on their web site) thereby downgrading it (without projects)

I have Photoshop Elements 10 on a new Mac, using Yosemite 10.1.1 - PE locks up every time I try to sign in. This software was restored to this computer from Time Machine after a theft of my old Mac. How can I fix this? It keeps telling me that there are missing files, too. If I upgrade to Elements 12 or beyond, will this fix the problem?

You can't sign in because there is nothing to sign in to. For PSE 10 the only sign in was to photoshop.com, which has been dead and gone for a year and half. Just skip the sign in. Reinstalling will not change this.

  • Can i transfer my iPhoto file from old mac to new mac using iCloud?

I got a new mac and want transfer my Iphotos to my new mac using icloud.  Is this possible?  How?  I registered both computers with Icloud.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately you can't use iCloud for this.
You can do this over a network, using an external HD, USB memory stick or DVD.

  • Windows XP under Parallels

Has anyone had any issues with installing WIN XP under parallels and needing some type of activation code from Microsoft?
I have a copy of WINXP + service pack2 - but the CD I got is not genuine. On my desktop I get a message that I may be a victom of software piracy. Which I am wink wink.
Anyway - I only need it for watching movies with GOM player which is supported only by windows. I don't think $350 is a reasonable price to pay for this software - Gates is already the richest man on earth.

Good Deal etresoft - $135 I can take - still - I really despise Microsoft for charging its customers arm and a legg for a copy of OS that 99% of the world is forced to buy. I do not condone DVD or Music piracy - but I feel I was short handed when I bought my desktop for over $2000 and told by the retailer that my WindowsXP was original - even tho it was on a blank CD-R. Since I bought it in Korea - they're explanation was that they can't get the original here and burned me one with legal CD key - which they purchased from Microsoft. I now know that it was b.ll sh.t - and am stuck with a copy of Windows XP that don't seem legal anymore. I can cry all I want - but won't help. I know I will eventually have to buy an original. So thanks for the advice - I will order it and have it sent to my parents in Canada - who can in turn send it to me - Your help greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

  • How to get rid of Windows files under Parallels

After loading and running Windows XP via Parallels, I've decided the virus risk is not worth it for me. My question is how do I get rid of all the Windows files? I've uninstalled Parallels using the Parallels uninstall function on the Parallels disk. Is that it or are there Windows XP files somewhere on my hard drive?
    Thanks

    Hi Jason!
I believe that should be all you need to do but a better place to ask would be the Parallels forums. Have a look here <http://forums.parallels.com/>.

The new apple machines are built round and Intel processor, therfore there machines can run Windows, either boot into it, or in parallel with Mac OSX. In each case, you have to supply the Windows OS. To boot into Windows you'll need Bootcamp from Apple: http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/, to run it paralleel you'll need Parallels http://www.parallels.com/
So the question is: Will Windows run your DOS programs?

  • Help! Transfering iTunes library from Windows iTunes to iTunes on a new Mac

I am sure others have asked this -- I was not able to find it though:
I have a Windows machine on which my whole iTunes library sits (both ripped CD's and downloaded music and TV from iTunes).
I need to move that to my new Mac.
I read the article about using my iPod to do this, but it doesn't seem to work across Mac/Windows. The computers are on the same home LAN. My old machine doesn't have a DVD writer or CD writer, so I can't use that option.
So, is there an easy way to just transfer it over to my new machine?
Also, what do I need to do (and in what order) about de-authorizing my old computer?
The Apple help and online resources are shockingly unhelpful on this topic. Thanks for any instructions you can provide.
    Thank you!

After you mount the drive, I'd recommend copying the folder over to your Mac desktop. From there, set iTunes to Copy Files on Import (under preferences). Select File -> Add to Library then choose the whole music folder you copied to your desktop. iTunes will load all the songs into your iTunes library and copy them to the appropriate folder in your hard drive.
When that process is complete, you should be able to delete the folder from your desktop and all your songs will be in your iTunes library.
    Hope this helps!

  • Migrating to new Mac using Time Machine

    Hi,
I will be getting a new Mac soon and I want to take all of my apps with me in their current state so I will be using Time Machine to migrate to the new machine.
I was wondering what are the essential files that I need to transfer over so that all the apps stay in the same state as they were on my current Mac. (Without the need for me to re-enter licence codes and go hunting for libraries etc.)
The main applications this is a worry for are:
Photoshop CS4 (and its affiliated apps)
    Aperture 2
    iWork '09
various other applications that have licence codes attached to them

it's more to do with the preferences being saved intact on my new Mac, I need to know what essential files to choose off my Time Machine backup when I Sync it with my new Mac. I don't want the whole drive migrated because it is full of rubbish I want to get rid of.
If you have any idea of what preferences and other library files are essential then that will be a great help.
