Will X1650XT 512MB AGP Video Card work with 865PE MS-6728?

Hi,
My video card is fried, so I'm thinking of upgrading to a HIS X1650XT AGP 512MB video card. I read somewhere that some motherboards have issues with 512MB video cards. Is this true? I can't find anymore info on whether this motherboard will support this video card.
http://www.hisdigital.com/html/product_ov.php?id=276&view=yes
Anyone have any input?
Thanks!

No need to get hostile, I didn't say you were an idiot.  Though continuing to make uninformed statements might get you there....

The video cards need at least 30A to make the card run properly.  That's pretty damn easy to understand how the last PSU was the problem.
Actually, it doesn't.  The 30A figure cited by the manufacturer is a worse case scenario for +12V needs of the entire system + the graphics card.  The X1650XT doesn't even need an auxillary PCI Express power connector and can be powered entirely through the PCI Express slot, which supports a maximum of 75W.
If you need further proof of this, for CrossFire setups the manufacturer cites a figure of 38A on the +12V rail.  If one card requires 30A, how could two cards require only 8A (96W) more than one?  The same requirements are stated for X1950XT (30A single and 38A Crossfire), so its a highly generic target that attempts to account for an entire range of power supply rating methods and total system power demands.
Here are total power consumption measurements of whole systems used in various X1650XT tests:
Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800 @ 2.93 GHz
Corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C4
Western Digital 150GB 10K Raptor
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value
AMD ATI Radeon X1650 XT
Total system power under 3D load = 206 Watts MAX
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
2GB Crucial PC-4000
Western Digital 74GB 10K Raptor
AMD ATI Radeon X1650 XT
Total system power under 3D load = 192 Watts MAX (only 66W higher for 2 x X1650XT in CrossFire)
Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800 (2.93GHz/4MB)
Seagate 7200.7 160GB SATA
Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 (1GB x 2)
AMD ATI Radeon X1650 XT
Total system power under 3D load = 182 Watts MAX
Those are figures for TOTAL system power needs, not the graphics card itself.  Here are figures just for the X1650XT from X-bit Labs:
55.2 Watts @ full load
That's not more than 5A MAX from the +12V rail.  Even assuming a 20% VRM loss, gets us to around 6A MAX.
As anyone can plainly see, the manufacturer's stated requirement of 30A is a hugely overinflated number to help people avoid purchasing a power supply like this because they are looking only at hugely inflated total power.
Given that your X1650XT could not possibly require more than 6A of 12V+ power, and high-end systems using overclocked Dual Core Extreme don't even consume more than around 250W TOTAL (all components combined, factoring VRM loss), the evidence is now overwhelming and beyond dispute that your previous power supply was more than adequate and that inadequate power was never the cause of your problem.  It could have been defective, but that isn't the same as having inadequate power.

  • What AGP video cards work with the MEGA PC

    Hi,
I am a newbie to this forum and a new owner of a Mega PC651.  I will be configuing it with the following:
    512 MB DDR 2100 RAM
    Celeron 2.4Ghz CPU
    Digital Research Technologies DVD+-RW/+-R
I want to play 3D games like C&C Generals with the system but am afraid that the SIS651 will not support them.
I have a ATI 9700 All-in-wonder Card in my son's computer but am concerned about heat generation in the Mega PC after reading several reviews. Also, I think that he will be very angry if I steal his card.
Can anyone recommend a moderately priced Video card MSI or other that will fit and will not cause any heating problems?
    Thanks,
    Charlie G

Windows XP supports up to AGP 8x.
I have a 9600 pro at the moment. I don't think that VGA silencer will work - if it takes up the PCI slot, then there will be nowhere for the cooler to draw air from because it will be pressed up against the case.
I am currently running my 9600 pro without any additional cooling and it seems to be doing ok. I did have a unit somewhat like this:
    http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/slf-01.html
It definately helped the cooling but the noise began to get to me. I recently sorted out my CPU cooling problems and so the main source of noise was my system exhaust above. I have taken it out and have been playing several high graphics games with no problems yet.
As for only supporting up to 4x, the 9600 pro will not be dragged back much. When it gets to the point that games require more than 4x speed to pass full detail for a decent framerate, the 9600 pro will start to struggle anyway. You will have a slight performance decrease, but nothing that will turn a game from being playable to un-playable. I would have bought a better card but the 4x speed would limit the cards actual power so there wouldn't have been any point.

  • Will other non-supported video cards work with premiere pro?

I have some older Dell Optiplex 755 and 760's that have limited space for graphics cards.  Most everything that I find that will fit or I can afford are not on the Premiere Pro system requirements list of supported cards.  Will others work?

Initial benchmark results with AMD cards show they are about two times slower than equally priced nVidia cards.
From: Tweakers Page - What video card to use?
To say that one solution is 2X faster across the board on comparably spec'ed cards would be incorrect.
    Based on ...???
AMD and Intel cards used with the perpetual license are at least 10 x slower than nVidia cards when hardware MPE is turned on.

Yes, provided they have at least 1 GB VRAM. See for instance http://ppbm5.com/MPE%20Charts.php or http://ppbm5.com/DB-PPBM5-2.php
Select Video Card / GeForce 600 Series and sort on the column header. There are no 640 cards yet.

  • Will ATI Radeon HD 5800 card work with Premier Pro CS5 Mercury engine?

    Hi There:
I've been using Premeier Elements 7 for the last 2 years and am about to buy Premeier Pro CS5. But having read the video card requirements I'm confused.
Will my video card work with PP CS5 and the Mercury playback engine? My card is the ATI Radeon HD 5800 with 1 gig memory?
The dealer specifically sold me that 18 months ago so I would be able to move to Premiere Pro with no problem. I have an Intel Core 17 with 10 gigs of ram and a great ASUS motherboard.
    Thanks,
    Rudy

    Hi Harm:
Thanks for the reply. I checked my RAM and in fact it is 12 gigs. I got it put in 18 months ago when I bought the system. I had to use Windows XP back then. Anyway, I now need to change to Windows 7 and Premiere Pro.
I had no idea back then that I was buy the wrong video card for Premiere Pro.
I am not familiar with the terms you and the other two respondants have used in your replies, and I have no idea what it means that my system will run 10 times slower than if I had a NVIDIA, whatever it means it sounds bad. Which is really too bad because I spent a small fortune buying one of the fastest card available at the time.
What do you suggest I now do?
    1) Just use my system as is? It sounds like my performance will be terrible, so should I really go this route? I will be editing MPG2 codec from a Canon XF100 shot at 50 mbps.
    2) Should I try to sell off my ATI card and buy one of the recommended cards?
    3) Should I just go to the Sony Vega Pro systems?
Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Rudy

  • Will any Creative MP3/Video Players Work With Vista Ultimate/Yahoo Music Out of the B

i've had a heck of a time getting my zen touch to work with my new vista ultimate dell pc, almost ready to give up. why i'm even thinking of getting another creative device given the above i'm not sure, but if i was, do any of the current devices (20gb or greater, mostly for music but want video capabilities) work with vista and yahoo music correctly and without a huge amount of heartache? and if not, any other devices i should look at? i really like the yahoo music service so don't want to go the apple route. thx!

iTunes is only intended for iPods and iPhones. In recent releases, Apple has instituted changes that prevent it from being used with other devices, e.g. release 8.2.1 deliberately broke the ability to sync with the Palm Pre.
Since you will be using multiple platforms, make sure that all music that your rip or purchase is in MP3 format. Then your music can be used in iTunes, Creative, or any other player or program, without conversion or compatibility problems.
Per the problem with Zen and Vista, you may wish to try the question on a Zen discussion.

    Solved!

I'm not sure- but it would appear that I'd have to buy a new power supply as well, since the factory one I think is only 265??? Which seems pretty low for a system with an Intel Dual Core, DVD burner, 500 gig HD & 4gigs of memory! Seems most PCI express gaming cards need atleast 300 watts-

There are no solutions that are going to give you better graphics performance than the graphics processor built into your iMac. Any external solution for driving a display would have to connect via USB or Firewire, either of which would be significantly slower than the onboard video.
Sorry, but if you want better graphics performance, you'll have to buy a different computer.
Note, though, that adding RAM to your system (your profile says that you only have 1GB) will offer improvements in overall performance and is highly recommended if you intend to run Windows, either via Boot Camp or a virtualization solution (most especially the latter).

Sorry, NO these will not working your computer. Even if you found a compatible MXM HP graphics card, you would still need to replace the CPU heatsink/fan assembly to one designed for use with the additional GPU.

  • Will this card work? - Nvidia Geforce 6800 ULTRA 256MB VRAM AGP Video Card

I posted a question about getting the maximum resolution from an Apple 30 inch Cinema Display and another card, which didn't work.
The replies were fast here in the forum and quite correct.
My next question is regarding the Nvidia Geforce 6800 ULTRA 256MB VRAM AGP Video Card.
I have an AGP card with an ATi Radeon 9600 Pro card that can't power the 30 inch because it's only 64MB and no DVI output.
I'm wondering whether this card will give me the maximum resolution?
    Thanks again.

    Hi Japamac-
    Thanks for the quick reply.
My System Profiler indicates a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, but it doesn't have the Dual Link since this is an older G5 with only 64MB of VRAM.
The GeForce 6800 is a refurb, but is Mac compatible.
I'm hoping that it will work, but since it won't be returnable, I don't want to spend the money needlessly.
I did order another card that the Apple support suggested should be compatible, but turned out that they sent me the PC version.
I've spoken to Apple as well and get conflicting info.
It boils down to the fact that this is a G5 with a late 2004 date.
It is fast enough for me and my only hang up is that I'm only getting 12980X800 resolution.
I'm not using it for gaming or graphics processing.
    HTH.

  • Can a PC ATI X1600 XT AGP card work with my MDD..

Can a PC ATI X1600 XT AGP card work with my MDD?

I have a friend that made the mistake of buying a (new) non-Mac edition ATI card. Not the card you've specified, this was a few years ago, but everything worked for him, with OSX. His biggest issue was the loss of the ADC connection on the card, getting DVI connectors only instead. That means a trip to Apple to get an ADC-DVI converter, mine was about £100 for my second display. My friend payed slightly less. At the end of the day, it would have been cheaper for him to pay the £30 extra for the Mac edition.

  • Will an onboard garaphic card work with the lates version of photoshop or do I have to have a dedicated graphic card

Will an onboard graphic card work with the lates version of photoshop or do I have to have a dedicated garphic card

Most likely you should be fine.  Some of the early i7s might not support it (did the first i7 core have integrated GPU?), but any of the last couple are fine.  The nice thing is, that you can always add an aftermarket GPU if you need to, so give it a shot.
I have a Haswell i7 (4770k) in my desktop PC, and it's more than enough.  I did a lot of research when I built my PC and my conclusion at the time was that a GPU doesn't offer a sizable performance boost unless you buy a really nice GPU ($400+).  The integrated GPU can run all the functions of CS6.
My laptop is an older i5.  Not sure which, but I think Sandy Bridge.  I can notice the difference in process times between the integrated GPU and discrete (AMD).  But only on certain heavy filters and when working with big composites (~2 gb files).  But that's an i5 and and older one.  That said, the integrated GPU is far more stable, so I usually just put up the lag instead of having the AMD GPU crash my computer.

  • Startup error with AGP video cards

I have a WInME machine that gives me errors on windows start-up that ask me
to hit ctrl-enter to clear and states that the client did not remain
resident. These only occur when I have an AGP video card installed. I do
have a PCI video card but would like to use it in a different machine. Has
anyone run across anything like this?
    Thanks,
    Craig Yager

I had tried that to no avail. I had also tried uninstalling the video
drivers earlier using the always reliable add/remove programs and got a
message that they had already been uninstalled. Just for grins, I tried it
again a few minutes ago (since it showed back up in the list of programs)
and it uninstalled for real that time. So I restarted, got no novell client
error msgs, re-installed video drivers, and got no error messages on
re-start! So I guess there was some sort of corruption in the video driver
that was causing this whole mess. Anyway, all's well now..thanks for your
    help Barry!

  • ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB 8x Dual (DVI/DVI) (AGP) Video Card for PC/Mac

We want to be able to use our 30" cinema display from the G4 and was advised in a previous discussion to buy the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB 8x Dual (DVI/DVI) (AGP) Video Card for PC/Mac. It doesn't seem to be available anywhere. Does anybody know of an alternate video card that's currently available that will get us there? (We had the display running from a G5 that quit / logic board failure).
    Many thanks,
    Philip

The Nvidia 7800GS is a flashed card, runs a 30" with ease.
BruinMacs on Ebay is a great place to get one, you support the guy who wrote the original ROM for these.
He doesn't seem to have any for sale right now, but if you email him, maybe he will list one.
There are also flashed X800s that work on your MDD and can run a 30". They are pricey but will offer dual DVI while the 7800GS is single DVI with VGA for second display.
There are also flashed 6600GT AGP cards which will work, but harder to find.
Any of the above 3 will run circles around a 9600.
