Will XSAN See : Promise Technology VTrak M200F
Hey Guys,
Currently I have 1x Xserve RAID, its about 7TB of storage. I came across a 'Promise Technology VTrak M200F' for pretty cheap and I can throw 1-2TB drives each in it and make around 16TB of storage, for still pretty cheap.
I was wondering if this model is actually compatible with Apple XSAN. I am very new to SAN's. I Just got the xserve raid setup in a SAN this last week, but our storage needs are extraordinary.

It would probably be irresponsible to say "every", but the list of arrays people are successfully with using with Xsan would at a minimum include Promise, Active, and Infortrend. Other similar arrays will work as well. There are some things to keep in mind though:
-Apple only supports and warranties Promise Vtrak. This is important if your company requires the purchase of support for critical infrastructure.
-Don't mix different RAID chassis, at least within in the same Data storage pool. Some installations use a different chassis for Metadata, but staying as consistent as possible is important to minimize compatibility problems and maintain even performance across your arrays.

Promise Technology's Pegasus Storage - will it be ok with Lightroom?
I have Lightroom 3.4 and use a 15" Macbook Pro i7 with 8 Gig of RAM (latest hardware - just purchased) and a Thunderbolt Cinema Display. My questions are:
1) Will this work well with Lightroom?
2) what would be the best RAID configuration to set this up with? (It will do RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10).

There should be no problem at all.
Not usre which raid you want and why. I'll be using the Raid 1 set up for mirrored drives. No need to back up for the Promise which will contain only data/images. I'm backing up my new 17"MBP (750GB) to a separate BU USB drive.
I'm getting the 27" dispaly as well - would have liked a matt screen but thunderbolt on the Apple was the swinger for now. -
I have the ipad retina display version - I have a BIG issue with this when out and about, that only about 50% of the time will it see my HTC mobile WiFi hotspot - rebooting either, or both devices doesn't cure the problem it drives me MAD!!!!
The HTC hotspot works fine with everything else I connect to it.
Also - ipad will not connect to my HTC via bluetooth. Again, I can connect to everything else with my HTC other than my ipad.
I have to say this is my first venture into Apple products and I have always wanted to get away from my windows based laptop to get a MacBook, the problems I have had (flash player etc) & continue to have (as above) are putting me right off swapping over. I HATE technology that doesn't work and my ipad has been hard work!I stated my ipad as being an ipad2, but I now think it is a 3??? It was new Jan this year and is the 64gb retina display version.
I really would like to get to the bottom on this problem wit mobile hotspots as it is sitting on my desk next to me now and I cannot get it to connect to my HTC mobile hotspot!!!! It might be taking a flying lesson soon at this rate!!! Grrrrrrr........... -
Unable to See the Technology Function in The Expression Editor- ODI 11G

I am developing Interface whereas i am unable to see the Technology functions in the Expression Editor where i am trying to do some transformation .
Secondly in the Header it is showing Default language in place of SQL(Oracle)

Below was the step i did which resolved the issue. hope this will help others
Go to ODI Studio
In Topology- Expand Language
Import New Language
import in synonym INSERT_UPDATE mode
The Language definitions from $ODI_HOME/oracledi/xml-reference/LANG_SQL.xml
click OK
close ODI Studio and Open again. that fixed my issue.

Before I buy, will I see the date on photos in sorter?
I'm looking for the right App to make movie / video files from a photoshow. I'm interested in iMovie but am concerned that I won't see the date stamp on my photo files like in the iPad photo albums. I find this very annoying in the Photo app. You can't sort or anything. Will I see the date stamp of when the photo was taken if I download a photo to my iPad? So I can sequence my pictures for a video?
When I say date stamp, I don't mean a the date and time right on the photo. I just want to know when the photo was taken and be able to sort a group of photos based on date taken.Photos are sorted by date and time, but the date and time is not shown in the app.

Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (on my MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?
I don't know first hand if you can use the Remote Disk option with Windows but as of 10.7.2 you can now use BCAssistant to make a bootable USB (thumb drive or external disk) W7 installer with the Boot Camp drivers installed also. Have you tried that yet?

I have an Apple Power Mac G5 Dual 2.3 GHz/6GB RAM/500GB HDD/Superdrive PowerPC Desktop and just bought an Airport Extreme card for it. The card is recognized but will not see the in-house network. This is a pre-intel computer. Do I need an additional antennae? If so, which one because my research is confusing me about what is supposed to work with this computer.

I have 4 Apple TV's. All set up to Home share. One will not see the computer. It is also the only 720 I have. The other three are 1080's. How do I get the 4th one (the720) to recognize my Mac?
Need more information to help you, but I am providing some suggestions. Sorry if you are past these type of basic things. But didnt really have much to start with and understand your technical level to start with.
Have you got into Settings > Computers > Turned on Home Sharing (Note: You must use the some Apple ID used by the iTunes library on your MAC for them to see one another)
How is your MAC connected to the network vs the 720 ATV2? Is one WiFi and the other Ethernet? Have you tried switching the ATV2 to WiFi if Ethernet?
Has the MAC been restarted since this started happening? Same with your Router and any other networking device being used? Sometimes an IP conflict can arise in your networking and most consumer networking equipment does not know how to "self heal" without a reboot.
Make sure you have given those things a whirl and share back your results. Any other information you can provide, such as how you connect to your network from each ATV and MAC. -
In Keynote09, if i set custom presenter display settings (large presenter notes), and i save the file, will i see my notes in the same way on another computer?

I have my G4s connected to one VGA LCD monitor via KVM adapter box. They both have video cards with DVI capabilities. Will I see a difference if I were to use a DVI monitor?

Yes, there will be a difference.
LCD monitors are digital, and so is the graphical data produced by the graphics card.
For VGA (analog) the graphics card converts the digital to analog, and the monitor reprocess that back to digital.
There is a loss of quality, lesser or greater varies with equipment.
If you change to DVI connection, you will need a DVI capable KVM that supports the optimal resolution of the display. I say this, because in the case of 1920 x 1200, not all KVMs can go that high. -

In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

Macbook will not see wireless network
My new Macbook will not see my wireless network. My Windows 2000 PC, my Ipod touch and my Macbook Pro (jaguar) all see it no problem and work well with it.
I have tried entering the network name manually and it does not work. I have WEP password protection.
The macbook sees and connects to all other wireless networks I've encountered (father-in-law's house, Airport departure lounges, hotspots etc.). The macbook also sees my neighbours networks no problem.
I am confused, please help.I am having the same issue, a friend visited with his new Mac Mini, running Leopard, and it would not see the wireless network, that 3 other macs (PowerBook G4, iBooks G4 and G3) running Tiger (10.4.11) and Windows machines recognize without problem.
I'm wondering if the issue is Leopard and 3rd party routers or MY router in particular, as I have a US Robotics 5461, and I remember when a previous roommate replaced her G4 iBook, running Tiger, with a MacBook Intel running Leopard, she also had issues connecting wirelessly.
My friend's Mini had no problem recognizing all the neighbors networks (at least 4 or 5) and I'm pretty sure they are not Mac users with an Airport Base Station.
I was hoping to upgrade my G4 PowerBook (once I get it repaired) to Leopard in the future, but I don't want to lose the ability to connect to my wireless network.
Has anyone running Leopard run into this problem and found a solution?
