Will your credit card be charged if you make a purchase with a gift card

will your credit card be charged if you make a purchase with a gift card?

Sandy has it right, when possible gift cards are used before credit cards. For more information about gift crads can be found in iTunes Store: How to redeem an iTunes Gift Card.
When you buy individual songs from the iTunes Store:
Free song credits are redeemed first.
If you have no free song credits, gift certificate, prepaid card, and allowance credits are used next.
If your gift certificate, prepaid card, and/or allowance credit is less than the total cost of the purchase, your credit card is billed for the remaining balance.
If you have no free song credits or gift certificates, prepaid cards, or allowance credits, your credit card is billed for the songs you buy.
When you buy an album on the iTunes Store:
Gift certificate, prepaid card, and allowance credits are used first.
If your gift certificate, prepaid card, and/or allowance credit is less than the total cost of the purchase, your credit card is billed for the remaining balance. Note: Free song credits cannot be used for album purchases.
If you have no gift certificates, prepaid cards, or allowance credits, your credit card is billed for the albums you buy.
It's been a while sense I used a gift card; but from what I remember, when you have credits from a card. There was a little bar that displayed my current balance.  For instance, when I added the gift card, The balance showed as +20.00, i bough a song, the balanced changed to +19.01.
PS question about itunes should be posted in the iTunes community.

  • Why was i charged 1 dollar for creating account when it says you wont be charged until you make a purchase

why was i charged 1 dollar for creating account when it says you wont be charged until you make a purchase

It wasn't a charge, rather a "hold" to verify your account. The hold will be released in a day or so.

  • Can you buy a ipod with itunes gift cards

I found some guift cards on ebay and they have like $75 for $50 so i was wondering if i could buy a ipod with gift cards

Careful of those gift cards on ebay. I know a guy that bought a $100 gift card from ebay for $75 and after he entered the code in his iTunes account, he got a note from Apple saying the purchase of the gift card was reported by the credit card company as a fraudulent purchase, so he lost the credit and was out the $75 + shipping he paid the ebay seller.
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

  • Troubles Purchasing with iTunes Gift Card

I have recently redeemed an iTunes Gift Card, and have a balance listed beside my Apple ID.
Yet, when I visit the iTunes store to make purchases, the gift card is not recognized and I am told I have no payment mode selected.
Can anyone help me? I have been searching around but all I can find is how to redeem the card, which I have definitely done. Is there a step I have missed to make sure the card is recognized as my mode of payment?
    Thanks.

Yet, when I visit the iTunes store to make purchases, the gift card is not recognized
If you have a balance, it was recognized. Simply click on Buy next to a song.
and I am told I have no payment mode selected.
    When/where are you seeing this?
If you do not have any CC info entered and view your account info, you will see *No payment method* selected. This is okay.
iTunes will use your gift card balance. If you do not have a gift card balance and attempt to make a purchase, iTunes wil pop up and tell you to input a CC number.
Is there a step I have missed to make sure the card is recognized as my mode of payment?
If you view your account info, it will not show a gift card as a method of payment method.
If you have a gift card balance and are loggied into the iTunes store, you will see a balance at the top right of iTunes, below the Search box.

  • Can Lion be purchased with a gift card

Can Lion be puchased with a gift card or gift certificate?

Like AppleGeek1990 mentioned, it needs to be an iTunes (iTunes, iBooks, or App Store branded) gard — not the grey ones with the white Apple logo on them; those are Apple (Retail) Store gift cards.

  • How do you reset the security questions when you havent used a credit card to make any purchases, only the gift cards. Apple support will not help me even though i know my account and apple id and password?

Have a new computer and now cannot access itunes without knowing the answers to the security questions. Apple support cannot reset as we have never used a credit card when purchasing prior, have only used gift cards. Can provide apple id and password and all other account details but still no help. Have we to open a new3 account and start again, this means losing a lot of credit on the existing account?!

I have the same problem. I didn't set a rescue email for some reason. To find out weather you hav a rescue password: Go to appleid.apple.com, sign in, go to manage account and then password and security if you do there will be a link below telling you that you can send an email to it. If not the link won't be there. Hope this helps.

  • HT204053 I added  iTunes 15.00 purchase with a gift card 2 days ago.  Though I've not received the credit.

I added $15. from a iTunes gift card, aprrox. 3 days ago. It showed that  had "credit" of 15., though, now it's missing from the credit menu.

Check your purchase history. Open iTunes, click on iTunes Store in the LEFT hand column. When it loads up, select ACCOUNT from under QUICKLINKS. When your account info loads up click on MORE INFO next to PURCHASE HISTORY. Most likely the credit was applied to a past due balance.

  • HT2736 Trouble purchasing with iTunes Gift Card

When I try to purchase a song with my iTunes gift card, it charges to my credit card instead.  I tried hitting the "redeem" button, but because I have already typed my code in, it will not allow me to access it.  How do I get the charge on my gift card instead of my credit card?

If u don't want to use your credit card, delete its info by going to app store, select Apple ID at the bottom of the page, select edit payment method, then check if your payment method is set to none. That way you will be using your iTunes credits from now on...if u run out..then it will ask you your credit card cause it will know u have one...or it will ask u to redeem an iTunes card.

  • Can you pay iTunes purchases with a debit card?

I don't have a credit card to pay for my purchases and it doesn't give a debit card as an option.  Is it possible to use a debit card?

It depends upon what country that you are in, they are no longer accepted as a valid payment method in all countries - from this page :
You may be able to use other payment types in your country, like debit and Maestro cards.
which implies that they are not accepted in all countries, and there have been a number of posts about them being declined. Credit cards are generally considered safer when used on sites that store the card's details.

  • I can't make a payment with itunes gift card

I purchased a $15.00 and redeem it. When I tried to buy a game, it kept taking me to payment information and wont let use the redeem money.

What message(s) do you see on screen when trying to buy the game, and how/when was the account created ?
If this is the first time that you've tried to download something then unless the instructions on this page are followed when creating an account : Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method
then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store. You should be able to remove your card's details after entering them. Asking for card details is a way of checking that you have a valid billing address in that country.
If you are getting a prompt to review the account then you could see if this post by mountaingoatgirl lets you do so without needing to enter credit card details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24303054#24303054

  • Not able to sign up for iTunes Match with iTunes Gift Card

Last night I purchased $30.00 worth of iTunes Gift cards , redeemed the cards against my iTunes account and attempted to sign up for the iTunes Match ($24.99 per year) only to find out that I must provide a credit card on file before they will allow me to sign up.  I never imaged that Apple would require a credit card on file. One of the reasons that I chose Apple products was the ability to purchase with iTunes Gift cards to reduce my risk of fraud when the account become compromised .
Also I have Apple IDs for each of my children and they receive  iTunes Gift cards as presents that they purchase Apps, Music etc that they want.  That way when they grow up and leave home they have their own Apple accounts to take with them.  Apple should want life long Apple customers!!   Just to let you know 14 year olds don’t normally have credit cards and I would never put my Credit Card info attached to their account. So if they own a Laptop, iPhone and iPad they are discriminated from using your iTunes Match because they don’t have a credit card?  Really????
Apple to just let you know that I have a Microsoft XBOX Live membership that I purchase a Live gift card once a year to renew my subscription.  I can’t believe that Microsoft can figure out how to provide customers a better user experience that Apple.
Please fix this quickly as I would like to use your iTunes Match and other iCloud services that you plan on releasing later this year however I will not be using my credit card so I may have to look for other device options.   If you need any help figuring out how to meet your business requirements please let me know as I would be glad to provide suggestions.
    Thank you,
    The Next Steve Jobs
PS  If any one over there knows a way around this please let me know.

I've been through the same ordeal. I wanted to renew my iTunes Match service, had over $100 credit in the iTunes Store, but wasn't able to use that credit to pay for the renewal. Apple requires you have a valid, working credit card on file to renew for some reason. But once you put in a credit card, the charge is actually taken from your store credit, not the credit card. So, it's very odd and doesn't make any sense to me, either. But there's no way around it without a credit card, that's what Apple Support told me when I contacted them about this same issue.
