WIN 2000 "No Bootable Drive Error" on new K7N2 Delta
Installed new MSI K7N2 MB and AMD Athlon XP 2500+ chip on Saturday and get to WIN 2000 boot and then blue screen error "can not find bootable drive?".
My friend tried booting from his and my WIN 2000 CD to no avail. Both drives show up on startup. Checked cables and tried swopping to no avail.
Any help would be apprreciated. I have tried the stickies to no avail.
Set up:
Maxtor 20 g master (OS System installed)
Maxtor 80 g slave for video editing
HP CD RW
NEC DVD RW
AGP display Video Card
IEEE firewire PCI
FDD
AMD Athlon 2500+ XP (333 FSB)
MSI K7N2 Delta MB
Antec 300 w mini-tower case ( bought off shelf at store) (do not have the specs on AMPS as I am at work)
Could it be the PSU?
I know Wonk or someone can offer me their guidance please. The Mrs. is PO'd.
I got that same error today, when I was trying to add a new boot drive with fresh W2K. I'm going to rant for a while, but you can skip it if you're not using an external drive and you've tested your internal drive ATA (round or ribbon) cables. (note that they can be v-e-r-y bad even if they look OK). I'll explain how these things relate to "No boot drive", but you'll have to bear with me, I'm still venting and trying to get over how stinking aggravating, time-consuming, AND expensive these components can be and still the manufacturers won't take responsibility for problems. Sony orphaned this one while it was still on the shelves at office supply stores.
Anyway, I'm such a fool --I know real well that my SONY CRX2100U USB external CDRW is a pig, but I always forget about that because it works pretty well with my MSI board and W2K *once everything is installed*. But it dies suddenly if I run the W2K setup from it (seems liek the USB20 driver gets stepped on or something. With other machines, like a Toshiba laptop, I have to disconnect it to boot at all. It gets in the way of the boot, somehow. it seems to have some issues with USB 2.0 compliance. So if you're working off an external hard drive, you might want to consider that it can be less than well-behaved at boot time.
What's this got to do with "no bootable drive"? I don't know, really. JUst that Win2K setup blows its brains out and suddenly stops knowing about the USB 2.0 drive, and a Toshiba laptop can't boot with a Sony USB 2.0 drive connected to it.
One other problem it might be: The ATA cable MSI puts in the motherboard boxes is either a good one or a really awful one. The awful ones are truly awful--I suspect that they attract and amplify electromagnetic radiation from sun spots or something...something makes the system go NUTS reporting disk errors and such. My K7N2 Delta ILSR came with the red plastic round cable, it is good as gold. My K7N2 Delta-L came with a wire-mesh wrapped 80-conductor cable, and I never saw anything more evil than it was, when brand new on a new system. It *looked* fine, good as new, but acted like it was shorting out the drives. Fuh, as much as I like to get free cables, I'll never use that one again. I dug up a twisted old ATA 80 c0nductor (blue-terminated) cable out of an old box and put it in, in place of the wire-mesh round cable, and the system came back to life immediately.
You pro'lly otter get a known good-quality 80 conductor cable for the internal drives.
So hope this helps.

My new K7N2-Delta need some help here!

I will appreciate the help and tips in this matter more over because my first attempt resulted on a non responsive system :P no post to be more clear.
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
Need some help (even after reading and re-reading all the Bootcamp posts and Manual):
i) Created partition its in FAT format.
ii) I know i need NTFS format for Wondows 7. As i understand it when the Windows Instaler runs, there is an Advanced button to choose and select NTFS?
iii) However, when i select Install from Boot Camp and insert my DVD disk with Win 7 .ISO file, it runs, the Mac Book Pro screen then returns a Black Screen with 'No Bootable Drive available - press any key to select' where-by nothing happens.
Can someone help me out please?
Thanks
Paulhi mate,
thanks for getting back.
I managed to figure it out and now i can get passed this error.
however, i now get another error "select boot type. 1 or 2"....
so after doing some more reading, i think i need a 32bit version of windows as
my macbook is a '07 model.
Ill try that next.
if that fails then there seems to be another thing to check and thats how the .ISO
has been created (sonething like normally the file gets a '1' added to the start code, which needs to
be removed apparently??).
thanks again -
Mysterious "Drive Error" on new Y2P
Hi
I got a Yogo 2 Pro yesterday. I'm new to Windows 8. I have been steadily getting it ready for use.
This is where I come for tech support, right ?
I installed all the new MS updates; some new browsers; got rid of mcafee and installed avast, mbam and adaware. Somewhere towards the end of that, the MS Action Centre started throwing up this warning :
"restart to repair drive errors (important) We found errors on a drive. to repair these errors and prevent
data loss, restart your PC now. The repair could take a while to complete."
when I restart it, it does (and completes) a 'scan and repair' on these three:
drive (\\?\Volume{1f3387fe-0a41-4864-886e-5ad46ba2481d})
drive (D
drive (\\?\Volume{914f3a37-9905-47da-b77b-c565f45fce2f})
Afterwards, nothing has changed - the action centre shows the same condition and any subsequent restarts goes through the same scan-and-repair on those drives again.
A manual checkdisc on D: shows no errors on it.
It's an out-of-the-box 256GB SSD. The D: partition is for the "Lenovo onekey recovery" files. Everything else is onthe C: partition. The machine has a core-i7 & 8GB RAM, if that makes a difference.
Does this mean my 'restore to factory settings' option is dead? I haven't tried using it yet (and would rather not if I can avoid it). Otherwise, the machine is running fine.
What to do ?
btw, I have never edited a registry in my life
thanks in advance for any help
Solved!
Go to Solution.Alright, everybody calm down. Panic over.
Restore to factory settings (1) did work and (2) seems to have fixed the problem.
'sweird. I made several "onetouch recovery" images along the way and restoring to any of them had no effect (i.e. still saw the same problem). Then after I had taken it back to factory settings, I could go back to those restore points and they were all fine. Ho hum! -
Recently i had a motherboard that decided to stop reading the entire eide port 1. SO with the help of a friend i got a K7N2 Delta-ILSR. WHen i got it i had to reinstall 2000. When i did so i noticed a serious decrease in speed of the hard drive. it took hours to format a 20 gig partition. When i finally got 2000 installed i noticed a slow choppyness about the computer. I had never seen this before. after a while of getting very agrivated at the machine i thought looke dthought the book again thingking that i might have did something wrong. this was not the case. I recently returned from a 4 day trip to vegas and when i turned my computer on it read my entire harddrive as damaged or unformatted. i want to believe that it is just the harddrive but it is a newer harddrive and i just had motherboard problems.
i have never had any problems with the harddrive before i only had error when i installed this motherboard.
my specs are
K7N2 Delta-ILSR
120gb wd 7200
512 of kingston 2100
gforce 3
2100+ amdim running what ever drivers came with the board.... I m unsure what the versions are... I was thinking it must be the cable but i traded it out for a known good cable and it still had the same problems ... i have a feeling its the hard drive but i wanted to see if there have been any problems with the K7N2 Delta-ILSR that i didnt know about.... i guess im gonna have to low level the harddrive or some thing....
im on vacation again so when i get back ill try to replace the harddrive with one that i know works then ill see what the problem is....
i tried setting default motherboard settings... i just thought it was weird when i had been gone and the computer was off. that when i got back and turned it on everything was gone... -
Just bought K7N2 Delta and built my system in the normal way with an Athlon 2000 and 512mb of infinion 3200 ram but the d-bracket shows two red and two green which the book says is the Athlon not working but i know it works coz its just come out of my other machine . Can anyone help please? X(
Hi,
This could be one of many problems.
The first to questions you're gonna get asked here are:
1 Is your memory Nforce2 approved? - MSI boards are a little picky about certain makes of RAM - If it isn't it may not work - see sticky at top of forum OR go here:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/nForceMemoryCompatability/lstnForceMemoryCompatibility.asp
2. Is your PSU up to the task of powering your board?
The general consensus of opinion regarding the powering of MSI nForce2 boards -
Does your PSU conform to the following:
+3.3V - 28A+
+5V - 35A+
+12V - 16A+
Compare the above with your PSU's label.
Many people get boot errors (of varying kinds) when the Mobo's underpowered.
Have you tried resetting the CMOS (BIOS) instructions in your manual. Also set all BIOS settings to default (if you haven't already done so.)

New K7N2 Delta board problems!!
I decided to upgrade my spare PC with a K7N2 Delta board since that is what I am running on my main PC.
I installed the board, installed windows XP, everythign was working great til I upgraded the Bios.
Now the system does this
Sometimes It will boot and say the HD is m issing files
Sometimes it will boot and I go to the Bios and it will hang when the main menu comes up.
Sometimes it will let me go into a sub menu int he bios and it will hang there.
Sometimes when I hit Delete to go to the bios the screen willl go all black.
Any Idea's?
I disconnected all the drives and started the computer and tried to go to bios but it did one of the above.
The bios says its the recent 8/02/04 bios.
I am guessing the bios is fubarred and I am SoL...mglines,
Do you have the CPU to FSB Ratio set to 1:1?
Also what RAM Timings are you using?
What about the Heatsink, what thermal grease did you use when you put it on?
Take Care,

I was forced to resort to wiping and reinstalling OSX after a rather catastrophic series of pranks from my brother. Yet, using the exact same methods, at least, on the software end, I was unable to reinstall the Windows Partition. Thus, I assumed that using the same .ISO file and a slightly larger partition, that it would be no issue reinstalling the Boot Camp Partition.
WRONG. After multiple attempts and several redownloads of the .ISO file(s) I am still getting the error message that "No Bootable Device -- Insert a boot drive and press any button"
I have also tried reformatting my drive again, and repartitioning the drive, to no avail. Could the issue be that I am using a proper thumbdrive, and not the externat HDD that I was using the first time?

Virtualbox Win 2000 network adaptor driver
Hello,
Looking for some advice. I got a new job, and was able to convince them to let me use a Mac versus the typical corporate dell setup. So i got a spiffy new 13" MBP 2.4Ghz.
So everything is working fine, but I need to run a business application that runs on windows only. Since it's an information database, I need to access it via a virtual Windows pane, instead of going with Bootcamp, which I have running with no issues on my personal MBP. So we opted to use Virtualbox since it's a free solution. The IT guy installed VB along with Windows 2000 since they have licenses lying around, but they couldn't get the network card driver working.
My question to the community here, running the same thing, is what network driver should be used for VirtualBox with Windows 2000 as the guest OS?
The IT guy is a part time contractor so he's not doing alot of effort in finding out.
I appreciate any suggestions and pointers.
thanks,
KenOkay, so the oracle boys directed me back to the virtualbox page, since they don't have a real tech support to call. But I was able to locate an answer from one their forum moderators.
For anyone that may come across the same issue, here's what you do.
having the guest OS (windows 2000) shutdown, go into VB Settings, then Network, and Select "NAT" under the 'attached to:' drop down box. And the the Adaptor Type (driver) under Advanced should be kept as PCnet-FAST III.
thanks,

New K7N2 Delta MB shuts down installing Wxp & Wme SOLVED !
OK I'm about to go kick the dog
I have been reading all sorts of stuff on this board and posted a few times in other people threads. Now it is time to start clean with my problem and look for help from the MSI Gods of wisdom
I had a system I built a couple years ago and it was running fine. One day it died. Long story short I ordered a new MSI MB to replace my dead Epox MB.
1) seems the Epox is a Via chip set and new MSI is nvidia. So Wme was looking for the Via chips and couldn't find them so it kept rebooting the machine. No way to remove the old drivers because I can start it. Loopty loop we go.
2) to save my data I ended up buying the new Seagate HD at a killer price. I tried to do a clean install of Wxp. I never got too far into the start up and the system does a hard shutdown like someone pulled the power cord out dead. Most people figured my PS was way to weak and after much more reading I think this was true. So just got the new one in today.
3) new PS is working fine. Still can't load Wxp, still shutting down??
4) tried loading Wme instead. Same thing, shuts off during the install but this time I got to the screen that said it was 7% installed, yippy !
5) went to W98. Guess what, nope, it actually installed and I can run it. !!!! Didn't do anything else as I just wanted to prove out the new stuff is working OK. Now I try to do a Wxp update. CRASH ! Wme update, CRASH. W98 still running OK??
6) Try to load MSI drivers off the CD to see if that would help. Hmmm, I am told I can't install this software with this version of Windows
7) So I can run W98 but can't install MSI drivers, can't upgrade to newer version of Windows. Not much of a machine at this point.
SO:
I have the bare minimum hardware to try and keep it simple. I have the new MSI MB, new PS, new HD, tried from 1 to 3 sticks of Crucial memory cards in every slot and 2 CD drives & floppy. All as shown below in my sig.
Looking for more ideas ?????
One step away from sending the board back. Not sure if I have a bad board or should I just exchange it for a Via chipset version. Strange that it wont let me install Wme or xp ?????????Solved the problem
Might have caused a new one but still.
I F'd up and made a bad azz-umption:nono:
I took the CPU card into work to clean all the Silver Artic off.
Got home and put it all back in.
CRASHED still.
Then I noticed the cooling fins were tilted.
Turns out I made the azzumption that the socket was made the same way as on the old MB.
Well they are except the pegs you clip the heatsink to are on the opposite sides.
This meant I had the heatsink cocked on the socket.
Wxp must use a ton more CPU power than W98 or DOS.
The machine ran for a long time that way??
Then I got Wxp to start loading and crashed again
Forgot the fan plug
But now xp is installed and running as it should. I just have to spend countless hours installing all the software and drivers again.
Wonder how much life is left in the CPU??
Good excuse to buy a faster one !
Thanks so much for all the help.
Just can't help people from themselves sometimes. -
Connecting to Oracle 8i in Win 2000
Hi All,
When i try to connect forms6i with the DB[Oracle 8i] in Win 2000 I get an error stating TNS could not resolve service name. The error number is ORA-12154.
Thanx
nullHi "User", seems you have the same problem
like all that do their first-time install :-)
Forms uses a different Oracle_HOME (required by setup), and hence does not "see" the "settings" of the normal client.
Try the following:
- Set up a connection with NET80-Tools
- Test with SQL*PLUS
- Copy "tnsnames.ora" from the Client-81-Home
to the forms-Home, e.g.
cd ORACLE/FORMS/NET80/ADMIN
copy ORACLE/ORA81/NETWORK/ADMIN/tnsnames.ora
Of course, you'll have to check for YOUR
directory names...this is just a samples, resp. mthe setup of a machiche I configured yesterday. HTH.
/M.

New K7N2/CPU and IRQL_Not_Less_Or Equal promblem rebooting ??
Hi I hope some one can help me here I have just brought a new K7N2 Delta L and XP3200 Barton CPU and im haveing major promblems with it blue screening in games the msg with the blue screen is as follows.
Driver IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal
Then some technical info numders and then this
USBOHCI.sys (Address numbers here that change every time)
I have done some searching on this and didnt get many results back at all, from what I can gather its too do with IRQs I think. I have checked what IRQs are being used under device manager by recource by connection and nothing seems to be shearing a IRQ.
Also I think this may have something to do with USB2, I have set in the bios for the onboard USB devices to be only USB 1.1 as I dont want to install Windows XP SP1 (the only way to get USB 2 support in Windows XP from what I can gather.)
This only happens in games and does not happen when just using Windows XP for browsing/CD/DVD writing and all the other stuff you use windows for, also its very random in the time it takes for it to happen.
BTW I also did a complete clean reinstall od the Windows XP only loading up the sound card drivers and ATI drivers DX9b and a game and it still gave me the blue screen and the same error.
In my bios I have disable all onboard devices like Lan & sound cards LPT & Comm ports too.
Anybody able to help me as im getting ready to take the MB back and get a ASUS in exchange, BTW i really like the MSI its just is really annoying me.Hi thanks for the reply ok I connect to the net via a Zykel Prestige 630 USB modem

HD Led not working with SATA drives on MSI K7N2 Delta
I noticed the HD led does not work with the SATA drives on my MSI K7N2 Delta ISLR
I confirmed that the led is not burnt out by reconnecting a spare IDE HD with XP on it to IDE 1 and the led worked when there was activity, but it does not work when connected to IDE3 or if the SATA drives are connected to Serial 1 & 2.
Could it be because the motherboard doesn't support and hdd led for the Promise SATA controller.
I had Bios v7.3 and flashed to v7.4 with no luck.
Could a new bios update fix this problem?
Anybody seen this before?basically it not wired up so works for no one

I am trying to learn Oracle.
I get the following when logging into SQL*Plus.
ORA-12560 : TNS : Protocol Adapter Error
I have just installed New Install Win 2000 Server and then Oracle 8i for Win2k
nullStep 1 - from a command line on the database machine, enter 'lsnrctl status' and report the output
Step 2 - display the contents of the %ORACLE_HOME%\network\admin\tnsnames.ora file on the machine running sqlplus.
These are the first two stepo, whether on the database machine or in a traditional client-server configuration. -
HP Pavilion A6528 P Error Code: Bio HD - 3 "No bootable drives detected."
Hi,
I initially had a Bio HD - 2 error message, the computer would not boot. So after unplugging and replugging the Sata cables and running the diagnostic test I concluded that the hard drive may be shot and since I do not have another computer with a sata interface to test the hard drive, I purchased a new HD (Western Digital with the exact same specs) and installed it. After the installation the computer still would not boot ,so I ran the diagnostic again and apparently the HD was recognized and passed but now I have a new error message stating that while testing: boot path, the error states Error code: Bio HD - 3 "No bootable drives detected."I searched the board and could not find the definition for this error code.
Please advise.
ThanksTry this procedure:
Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any. Then clear the CMOS. Plug your PC back in a give it a go. You might consider trying to use a different motherboard sata port for your hard drive.
