Win 7 64 on Bootcamp... Mac/Win Display Woes

Hi all,
I'm running Win 7 64-bit using current Bootcamp drivers on a Mac Pro with dual 2.93 quad-cores and 16 GB RAM. Bootcamp/Win 7 seems to run fine except that frequently when I boot to the desktop the displays aren't correct - I only get 2 of the 3 I have or they're out of order. Going back to Mac, however, the displays are usually OK.
I'm running the stock 120 video card with the NVidia 4870 as well.
When I ran two monitors off the 4870 (my initial setup), I had display problems on Windows. So I pulled the second display off the 4870 and put it on the 120. This seemed to solve my Windows display issues, but now my Mac displays aren't working correctly - OSX 10.6.2 sees only 2 and refuses to show the third. I'm pretty sure switching the video cables back will solve the problem but obviously that's a hassle for someone bouncing back and forth between the OSes.
Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this???
Thanks in advance!
Kevin

I've never known of a mixed ATI + Nvidia to work!
Not sure what options there are either. There are PC ATI 5xxx with 2GB and ability to drive 3 monitors off MiniDisplay ports... Apple left us with just two power connectors so two highend cards are out....
I assume you have the latest Catalyst and Nvidia drivers which you need... and using Ultimate or Pro for your dual processor.

  • Installing Win in Mac retina display

    Is is possible to install Win 2007 in MacPro (retina display) with USB (2.0 or 3.0) as new Mac retina display lacks DVD.

    Yes. Install Windows the same way you would in a Macbook Air. Put the Windows and the downloaded support software onto a usb thumb drive. Make the thumb drive bootable and follow the installation guide. http://support.apple.com/manuals/#bootcamp, or use an external DVD for the Windows DVD.
    You should visit the Boot Camp forum. https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp

    Funny. I see these stupid threads by the same few folks who can't help but push their macs. And the one or two who tote Windows.
    Both systems have their set of problems. But really, who cares what market shares are PC vs Mac with regards to Adobe. Big deal.
    Windows has so many more vendors and software programmers to deal with they finally had to coral it in with Vista, their first attempt. Signed drivers. Macs failed with clones. Life happens.
    The Mac in not superior and saying it is doesn't make you any more superior either but damn y'all sure seem to think so.
    What a joke.
    b You keep up the we versus them - mac vs ps all you want. It does not get anyone anywhere. Solving common issues that effect both side is much more valuable.
    Maybe it makes you feel good to spout your love for one or the other. But Adobe has pretty well tried to get their products to run the same no matter which OS you choose. Adobe seems to understand Macs aren't the only OS choice to run their products. They realize PCs make a huge part of the market. Quibble over 50 percent or 60 percent or what ever you want... the Macs just don't have to support the thousands of titles that PCs do.
    At least PCs know how to display web images with sRGB much better. In fact, amazing how a designer still needs to design for PCs ever more so than macs. Because of the sheer numbers of PCs versus Macs. I still read and hear all the time, you design for PCs first and foremost and then try to cross over to macs. Cross browser ring a bell guys. But I guess those here would find that as the PCs are trying to have a superior attitude. NO. They just realize the number of end users. But I guess the same 4-5 mac people here will still have something to say about that statement. How PC users feel their systems are the best or run Adobe products better and were ready for 64 bit first. Whooppiieeeeeee. God, what you guys stoop to for something to write about.

    I just wanted to walk all over this thread. Say my rants and raves. Call people out on their superior attitude of crap. Go kneel to your John Nack and by all means, keep reading his blog and keep us posted. I doubt John want to really hear all of this either.

    I stayed up too late tonight and have sleep deprivation. I doubt I will remember typing this. I will remember listing the same 4 names we can list all too often and the same people that opinionate the loudest here.

  • Mac/Win upgrade?

    Can someone please tell me how the Mac/Win upgrade works?  Can I install one copy on a Mac and one on Windows with the same $299 license? If so, would one get one serial number that works on both platforms? I heard that you get two seats.  If I install one on a Mac and the other on the same Mac with bootcamp for WIndows, does that use up my twp seats or does that just count as one since its on the same computer and can not be used by two people?

    Cheers
    My Mac arrived yesterday, so I put the DVD in (it's a download only version, rather than a shipped box) and there didn't seem to be a Mac installer. In sheer naiveity even tried running setup.exe (!) but no joy.
    Other info I've read since does seem to imply that this rep was wrong. Does anyone else know more about the process, or, if the rep was right, how I go about installing from that DVD?

    If you have the Media you can use it to create a bootable USB key via boot camp assistant.
    It will create the usb and has the option of pre-downlading the drivers and bootcamp utilities for windows.
    It is pretty much all automated and quite simple.

  • How to remove win 8 and install win 7 in bootcamp

    I want to completely remove win 8 and install win 7 in bootcamp. I followed the steps in bootcamp assistant and it appears to remove the win 8 partition. However when starting a new win 7 bootcamp partition and installation setup still thinks win 8 is being used. how do I get it to recognize the win 7 now being installed from the usb drive? This is on an iMac 27 late 2012 with OS x 10.10.1

    Hi Janesdf,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
    As per the query we understood that you are looking for Windows downgrade on your Ideapad N580.
    Before doing any changes in the system HDD partition or with Windows OS, I suggest you to create the system recovery media and then you can downgrade the OS. But you require Windows 7 recovery media.
    Hope this helps.

  • URGENT HELP: Need to reformat an external hard drive for Mac/Win!

    We got a Desk Hammer external hard drive and my hubby chose to format it as Mac Only when it first initialized. We needed it to be formatted for Mac/Win usage. Now we cannot figure otu how to reinitialize and reformat it. It's been years since I messed with his Mac. Help--right now we just have a big old doorstop instead of a hard drive! BTW Desk Hammer is no help with support (I guess that's why they were on sale); their website isn't even complete!

    Use the Disk Utility application found in /Applications/Utilities to format the Drive as MS-DOS File System. This will be readable by both Mac and Windows platforms.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • [Mac, Win] Fullscreen Bug?

    Hello!
    Sorry for the lenghty post but maybe someone can confirm the problems I am seeing:
    There seems to be a bug in both Windows and Mac versions of Photoshop CS6. The problem manifests itself MUCH clearer on a Windows machine, but is present to some degree on a Mac, too. The last version without it seems to be CS3 (OpenSth problem?).
    Steps to reproduce: Any image open, full screen mode, all pannels UNDOCKED:
    Correct behoviour: The image should not move while pressing Tab (ideally it shouldn't even redraw).
    On Windows:
    With every press of a Tab key to show/hide the panels the image jumps up several pixels (sometimes also towards the center of the screen if the image is smaller than the screen area). Also (and MUCH more annoyingly) when the image is moved off center and is at certain magnification (the most reproducible seems to be 33%) after pressing Tab it jumps ALL THE WAY to the center of the screen.
    On Mac:
    Similar things happen, but more rarely, and the image jumps by only ~1 pixel. (Easier to observe if you first zoom the image smoothly a bit by dragging with a zoom tool).
    Also as it currently is (after CS3?) pressing F produces the same outcome as pressing Shift+F - there is no way of just showing the menu in Fullscreen mode and then quickly hiding it after use - one have to go through the whole screen mode cycle. Also on Windows there is no way to access the menu when hidden with Alt + Letter speedkey (Alt + F for file menu etc.). Both these functions worked perfectly well in CS3.
    Both machines have latest Photoshop, OS updates and drivers (but old graphics cards: Win - Nvidia 9800GT, Mac Nvidia 880GT). I suspect these changes for the worse has been introduced while switching to OpenGL. Hopefully it is not necessary for it to be that way or maybe even it works as expected on newer graphics hardware - anyone care to check?
    Last time similar problems occured was, if I remember correctly, in Photoshop 7 when Status Bar has been moved into an image window :-)
    I know it may sound as if it's not important, but it certainly is annoying. It has nothing to do with not embracing change - I do find OpenWhatever to be a huge leap for Photoshop - even if I have to put up with a slower image redraw most of the time...
    So, I hope, my rumblings aren't comparable to:
    http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/workflow.png
    Regards
    m.

    Thank you.
    Unfortunately, I don't have Navigator open (opening it doesn't make any difference). The image jumps in fullscreen mode without the menu, because when I press Tab, the menu shows anyway and the image (incorrectly) moves down to accommodate it and then up again, after another Tab press.
    The wholly unreasonable behaviour of image being centred with Tab pressing has no such explanation and is not happening on a Mac at all.
    Your suggestion to use Shift F and then F works, but since Tab shows the menu anyway - it kind of doubles that functionality.
    I just think that the old behaviour of being able to show just the menu, separately from the panels or access it with Alt + Letter keys was more convenient than current behaviour. The image always stayed exactly where it was - no need to redraw. And it NEVER jumped whole way to the center - which makes dealing with image corners extremely difficult.
    I can understand that some of that may be the a requirement of using OpenGL on Windows, but I kind of doubt it.
    Regards
    m.

  • Flash CS3 Mac/Win Projector Publishing - Using older version of Flash

    Hi,
    How can I use an older version of Flash player when publishing to Man/Win Projector? The Properties says 'Player: 7' but when I publish to Mac/Win (.app/.exe) the file says it uses Flash player 9 (9.0.115.0)!
    One of our clients are having issues with a project published this way - on autoplay they get a white screen instead of the program screen and after they update Flash on their computer, the application (Projector) works. What's the issue?
    This is what I have on my first frame (using AS2), is any of this suspect to older versions of Flash? :
    <code as2>
    fscommand("fullscreen", true);
    fscommand("allowscale", false);
            trace("This is a " + System.capabilities.os + " system.");
    var os:String = System.capabilities.os.substr(0, 3);
            if (os == "Win") {
              trace("Windows-specific code goes here");
            } else if (os == "Mac") {
              trace("Mac-specific code goes here");
            } else {
              trace("Must be Unix or Linux");
    var videoStartNumber:Number =0;
    var originalMenu:Number = 1;
    _root.menu1_1.onRelease = function() {videoStartNumber = 1; gotoAndPlay(5);}
    _root.menu1_2.onRelease = function() {originalMenu = 3; gotoAndPlay(3);}
    _root.menu1_3.onRelease = function() {originalMenu = 4; gotoAndPlay(4);}
    _root.menu1_4.onRelease = function() {gotoAndPlay(2);}
    _root.exitButton.onRelease = function() {fscommand("quit");}
    stop();
    </code as2>
    But even if something on this project wouldn't work on an older version than 9.0.115.0 then it shouldn't matter as the Projector will always use the embedded Flash player, not the player installed on the computer, right?
    Really would appreciate any help.
    Thanks!
    PJ

    Please, can someone help me?
    Our client is getting frustrated and I'm out of ideas as to what's wrong with the Projector executable! Why would it give white screen on launch on some systems and not on others?
    Sincerely,
    PJ Palomaki

  • Win 8.1 & W520 Intel wifi woes

    Is anyone else having issues with win 8.1 and their W520's Intel wireless? In my case I have the Centrino N 6205, and the latest drivers from Intel (the Intel driver installer is version 16.6, but curiously the driver shown in the device manager is 15.10.4.2).
    The issue I have is that the connection drops several times daily, and can only be reestablished by turning the wireless router on and off. There is no other way to reestablish it! Rebooting the W520 doesn't even work. By contrast, wireless when this same W520 is running Ubuntu is rock solid.
    It's really quite frustrating. I certainly get tired of having to reenter the WPA2 password every time using the anemic win 8.1 network GUI. It has me contemplating the time consuming step of wiping win 8.1 & reinstalling win 7.
    Thoughts?

    Use another computer.  Download the full feature software and drivers here.

  • What is the difference between Wine, Wineskin, Winery and Wine Bottler, and how do I get Wine to *ACTUALLY* work in Mountain Lion?

    Ok, so this is my first post here and I am admittedly terrible at forums. Someone might say, "This was addressed in the ___________ thread by __________! Go read it!" --- that may be so but I've spent enough hours trying to google this problem into submission to no avail based on what is apparently working for others, so I would like a chance to get specific answers to specific questions that aren't from Mar 2011, etc.
    So first of all, I'm confused by all the various Wine programs/apps/whatevers. I've seen Wine, Wineskin, Winery, Wine Bottler, and at this point I wouldn't be surprised if there are even more than that. What's the difference between all of these and how do they work with one another? What do I actually need to get windows programs working?
    All of my google searches have led me to people giving out fish, but no one giving out fishing lessons. I'm not a pro at mac and windows and all that, but I'm a fairly bright individual who gets VERY frustrated, very quickly, when I don't understand the why and how of something I'm attempting.
    I've also found "answers" where the person attempting to help starts off helpful enough, but degrades into the most archaic of techno-babble after about 5-6 sentences. On the other hand, I've watched tutorials on youtube where the poster decides to skip (apparently crucial) sections of the tutorial, and mutters such gems as: "... you might wanna have to run Wine first before you can do anything, cuz I think it has to configure it and set up a bunch of stuff"
    O.o
    A happy medium between techno-babble and the most basic of explanations would be ideal for me, and I'd imagine for others as well.
    Here is a summarized history of my relationship with Wine:
    Diablo II - I downloaded this awesome thing which ended up being... uh... I guess Diablo II in a Wineskin "wrapper". I'm not sure, all I know is that it's a D2 icon, and if I go to 'show package contents', it's got C drive, Program Files, et cetera inside of it. I double click it, it launches D2, and it works like a dream. <3
    'Vanilla Install' - That's what I heard someone call it. It was the command/terminal style install using xquartz and xcode found at http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/. I followed every instruction to the letter, and got all the way to '$ sudo port install wine', at which point it started going smoothly, free from the possible error he described regarding the installation of xcode, and then just failed after I left the room to use the restroom and came back. Please don't ask me to repeat what the error was, because honestly, after reading more things on the interwebs, I'm confused as to why it's even necessary to go through all of that, so I'd rather not try that route again anyways, rendering the error message quite possibly irrelevant.
    Wine + Wine Bottler - So I decided to try to seek out an easier method, as I know that one must exist that doesn't involve command lines. I found a video tutorial at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0BBkISOcEA, and oh man would it be great if that method had actually worked. Again, I followed all instructions provided to procure my free fish, and at the point in the video where he declares that "xquarts or x11 will open" - it doesn't open. Nothing opens. I was trying to install Star Sonata, btw.
    So here I am, thoroughly worn out, frustrated at all the random places Wine is installed on my mac now, and just want someone to explain it all, from top down, without getting toooooooo technical on me. I know that might be asking a lot...

    ## I know that the poster has already found a solution, but the following is a possible answer for others that have similar issues.
    For Winebottler, just go to their website and download it. Run the program. Choose .wine as your prefix (best choice) or whatever suits you best. You'll need a functional X11. If you can't use the one that comes with your mac, download the latest one from the website.
    If your issue is one with Winebottler's Wine not running correctly due to X11, then you have a pretty ugly problem, although a simple upgrade is the best solution (Upgrade XQuartz.app).
    http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/#part-1
    The above website is the easiest way to get REAL wine on your computer. First of all, Wineskin WInery, etc. are NOT WINE. They are 3rd party apps that may use Wine or may have originally part of Wine, but they are no longer up to date with Wine. WineBottler is currently up to date with the stable releases of Wine (but not the maintenence releases).
    For the website tutorial and to run Wine on your mac without using a thrid party app, you will need to know a few things.
    First, you will need to know basic control of the command line. That means, sudo (you must know the administrator password to your computer), and the forms of cd (change directory).
    Second, you will need Xcode. Download 4.2 (stable) or whatever other versions you want, but beware: It is over 1 GB, and you will need time for it to work.
    Third, you will need to get MacPorts and configure it. The tutorial should have this data.
    When you download wine (use sudo port install wine-devel for the latest development release of wine), it will first download a lot of dependencies. This will take a while. After that, it will download wine itself.
    After obtaining wine, to run a program, open the terminal.app window.
    cd desktop/XYZ/ZYZ\ WRQ
    The above will first enter the desktop, then folder XYZ, then folder ZYZ WRQ. From here,
    wine th11e.exe
    Or whatever executable you are trying to open. (Using Subterranean Animism as my example).
    It should, in theory, run the program. Watch the terminal for errors. If there is an X11 problem, then it's not wine acting up. If the app crashes or has other issues, check the Wine Application Database to see if your app is compatible with wine.
    If you have any further questions or other things, feel free to reply; I may or may not get back to you, but there's a good chance that someone will come in eventually. Otherwise, the Wine Wiki should have some information.

  • How do I connect a mac cinema display to a dell laptop with VGA output?

    I need to connect my coworkers Mac Cinema display to his Dell Laptop with VGA out, running Windows 7. We have a VGA to DVi adapter, but it doesn't work. Do we need a different adapter or a driver? Thanks.

    DVI-I offered by most computers has support for up to a wider-than-1920 Digital display AND a complete set of VGA signals in it.
    If you have an adapter from DVI [computer] to VGA [display] it has no conversion logic in it and should be called a VGA extractor. It will NOT work the other direction.
    I think what you need is a better computer or a worser (VGA) display.

  • Can i connect my iMac to a mac mini (wirelessly) and control the mac mini display on my TV?

    Can i connect my iMac to a mac mini (wirelessly) and control the mac mini display on my TV?

    Look up "screen sharing" in help
    You can control your mini (which I am assuming you are hooking to your TV) complete from your iMac.
    After you set up screen sharing, you can go to the finder, under the "go" menu choose "Connect to server" and then browse.  Choose your mac mini's name, and look for the "Screen Sharing" button.
    Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Sharing.
    Select the Screen Sharing checkbox.
    To specify who can share your screen, select one of the following:
    All users:
    Select this if you want to allow any user with a user account on your computer to share your screen.
    Only these users:
    Select this if you want to restrict screen sharing to specific users.Click Add at the bottom of the Users list and select a user from Users & Groups (accounts you have set up in Users & Groups preferences), Network Users (users on your network), or your Address Book. Or click New Person and enter a name and password to create a sharing account. Then select that user from the list, and then click Select.
    Click Computer Settings and set the following options:
    Anyone may request permission to control screen:
    Select this to allow anyone on your network to request to share your screen.
    VNC viewers may control screen with password:
    Select this and enter a password that VNC viewer applications can enter in order to control your screen.It’s recommended that you not set a password if you only share this computer’s screen using the built-in screen sharing viewer in Mac OS X.
