  • K8N Diamond - Bluescreen after Win XP (SP1) Install

Hi.  After building my system today I installed Win XP (SP1).  The pre-install and graphical install went fine with no errors.  On the first boot after the install, the Win XP logo appears for 5 seconds, there is then a quick flash of bluescreen then the system resets.  The system is booting off of an Adaptec 29160 SCSI Controller with SCSI HDs.  IDE is enabled in the bios for DVD & DVD Writer and the SATA controller is disabled in the bios.  I did not use the Nvidia or Silicom SATA drivers during the initial OS install since I had disabled the onboard SATA/RAID controllers.
If I boot the system and boot into safe mode rather than normal I can get into Windows but there isn't any decent logs so far to go on without some additional work.
Is there something I've missed out ?  I've done a quick search but couldn't find any related posts on the forum.  I've listed my spec below.
    Thanks for any help.

Hi.  I'm just going to start removing/moving hardware and carry out more testing, but I've booted into safe mode and justed the error settings so that I can actually read the error.   The Windows stop error is 0x0000009C MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION.  I've just completed a MEM86 test and had no errors on the 2 x 512 Sticks.
I'll adjust some of the hardware and if that doesn't make any different the only bits it leaves are the CPU and motherboard.
    Thanks again.

  • Re: Satellite A200-1ZF Win XP & Toshiba Control buttons don't work

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A200-1ZF with Vista installed originally.
I removed Vista and install XP. And then installed all drivers and almost everything is working but those keys (power, www, mediaplayer, play, stop, back, next) on the upside of notebook don't work. :/
Only power work properly ...sometimes www and mediaplayer, but rest of it doesn,t work at all.
I have Windows Media Player 9 series. I don't know if it is problem with my drivers or windows media version or something else..
    please help..

    Hi
Satellite A200-1ZF belongs to the PSAE6E series.
Choose this series in the Toshiba European driver download form.
There you will find a XP BIOS. If you are using Win XP on this notebook then you have to update the BIOS to the XP version!
Furthermore you have to install the Toshiba Controls v. 2.48.2.2C.
This tool is needed to get the Toshiba Media buttons working!

ı delete mac os x lion on my hard disk and ı format it ntfs.ı install windows xp.now ı have a mac os x snow leopard install dvd but it isn't working. ı think it's not working because of my harddisk format is ntfs.what can ı do for install mac os x ?thanks

The HD must be partitioned with GUID partition map and Mac OS extended (journalled) file system. Do not partition the drive into two. When you have a working OS X system, use Boot Camp to create the Windows partition and install Windows.
If you're trying to install Snow Leopard on a Mac that was delivered with Lion installed =
    1. It may not be possible at all depending on the Mac.
    2. If it is possible, it cannot be done with the retail SL disc which is 10.6.3
    3. The only way it can be done is to obtain the original grey discs which would have come with the Mac if it hadn't had Lion installed in the supply chain. They will be at least 10.6.6 and more likely 10.6.7 or .8. You can try to obtain those from Apple Customer Services.

  • Downgrade using Snow Leopard install DVD does not work on iMac 27"

I have an iMac 27" (SMC version 1.54f36) that I wish to downgrade. I bought a 5-user Snow Leopard license. Now I'm trying to re-install from the DVD, but the computer won't boot on the DVD.
If I run the installer from the desktop, the installation starts, but when the computer reboots, it gets stuck. No alterations is done on the system disk, so I can hold down the Alt key and choose to boot from the system disk and I'm still on 10.6.5. For the moment I cannot find the discs supplied with the iMac, but surely the SL install DVD should work?? I've used it once before to do a clean SL install (I believe the iMac I have came with Leopard).
The version on the SL install DVD is 10.6 (2Z691-6558-A)
The reason for downgrading is that my Pro Apps (DVDSP and FCP) got a bit shaky when I updated to 10.6.5.

If you have a 27" iMac, it had to ship with Snow Leopard installed. See Mac OS X versions (builds) included with Intel-based Macs to confirm this, & Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac for why you should not try to downgrade to an earlier version.
If the version on your SL install DVD is 10.6, then it is an early version & will not work with your iMac. The current retail product version installs 10.6.4 & should work if your iMac is the "Late 2009" model. It probably will not work if your iMac is the "Mid 2010" model.
You need your grey system discs. They should be kept accessible wherever you use your iMac. If you have lost them, contact Apple about getting a replacement set.

  • Password reset from Install DVD does not work

    PowerBook G4 17"
    Mac OSX 10.4.10
After a system failure, I got the gray screen with the question mark. I restarted from an external drive, and, from "Disk Utility" I ran both "disk repair" and "permissions repair" to the internal drive. There were several errors, but all were repaired. When I restarted from the internal drive I was asked for a user id and a password. I entered them, but were refused. Then, I followed the steps indicated in "Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password" in this forum: I started from the install DVD, changed the password, and restarted, but the system refuses my user and password, (the window shakes and blanks out the password field). I have repeated all the steps several times, but the system keeps refusing my login. When I start from the external drive I can see all my documents, files, folders, image, etc, in the internal disk.
I will appreciate any sugestions in order to solve this problem. Thanks a lot.

Hi, glad to know that your LaCie HD is OK. now if you follow the instructions for Silverkeeper, you will find that it will give you an option to copy your LaCie HD clone to your Mac's internal drive. I don't have Silverkeeper, so any info. I give is from the link I gave to you earlier.
    This part in particular ..
Drag the volume icon for the drive you have started from to the Source field of SilverKeeper.
Drag the volume icon for the drive your wish to clone to, to the Destination field.
    "Save SilverKeeper settings.
Click Go, and wait until completion.
When Backup is complete, quit SilverKeeper.
Restart your Mac; don't press any keys; you should restart to your normal, original startup drive; if >there is a login prompt, login to account that has Admin privileges
Open System Preferences - select Startup Drive control preference.
Select the backup drive as the startup drive.
Restart your Mac; you should then startup just as if you had started up from the original, but it >should be your backup drive. You should not be prompted for any OS X registration.
Please review the release notes for SilverKeeper at the support website:
http://www.silverkeeper.com or http://www.lacie.com/silverkeeper which will reveal the most >current information."
When you have done this you will have an exact copy of your LaCie HD on your computer. Nothing else needs to be done after this - you just use your Mac!
    Best wishes,
    Robert.

The DVD might boot on the Mac Pro but if it does the installer will not let you install on the Mac Pro.
There is a possible workaround that is often used, and at one point in the past was even recommended as a solution by Apple.
Boot the Mac Pro in FireWire Target Disk Mode.
Connect the Mac Pro via FireWire to the Mac mini.
Boot the Mac mini from the DVD
Install on to the Mac Pro hard disk which will show up as a FireWire external drive.
Boot the Mac mini from the Mac Pro drive which will show up as a FireWire external drive. You can do this by holding down the Option/Alt key.
Run the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server Combo update.
    Shutdown the Mac mini.
Power down the Mac Pro by pressing briefly the power button.
Disconnect the Mac Pro from the Mac mini
Boot the Mac Pro as normal.
Hopefully it will boot normally but now with Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server installed on it.

  • After Windows 10 Install - Printer Officejet J4580 and CD/DVD Don't Work

After my install of Windows 10Pro Build 10240, my printer is found (HP Officejet J4580)  in the device manager, but I can't print anything from my Office 2010, or any other program.  Also, my CD/DVD (HP DVD RW AD7251H5) is not even found in device manager.  I have disconnected and reconnected, and still it is not recognized.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • HP Pavilion g4, reinstall Win7 64bit fm a DVD disc, not work

I try to fix a problem for my friend's laptop. It is HP Pavilion G4
running Win 7 64bit OS. The laptop can not start up the windows. I
press ESC to pause the start up, and run system recovery, it shows BIOS
setup, system recovery and others, I then press Fn + 11 key to run
system recovery, but it never runs.
I then remove the HDD, and connect to my computer to run testing. It
seems it has something inside corrupted. It takes so long to recognize
all partitions. I decide to format all partitions and then resize
them. Afterwards, I run test and chkdsk. Everything is fine with the
HDD now. I put the HDD back to Laptop, and insert a DVD disc of Win
7, the laptop does not start from DVD. The screen shows as follows:
    Hard Disk Error
Please run the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics.
    Hard Disk 1 (3F1)
    F2 System Diagnostics
I visit the above link, I could not find relevant materials.
If I press ESC to exit start up. I can hear the DVD ROM is running,
but still not work. The screen shows as follows:
    Startup Menu
    F1 System Information
    F2 System Diagnostics
    F9 Boot Device Options
    F10 BIOS Setup
    F11 System Recovery
    Enter - Continue Start up
Only F1 would respond when I press. Other Fn does not respond at all.
Do you have clue and suggestion for me ?

You do not use Fn + the key indicated. For instance to enter BIOS you simply tap F10. Recovery would have been F11, not Fn + F11.

  • OS 10.5.6 install DVD won't work on my G4  running 10.4.11 - HELP!!

I recently purchased a retail copy of OS 10.5.6 and attempted to install it on my G4. The installer runs fine from the DVD but freezes when it gets to the initial "choose language" screen. Mouse and keyboard are completely unresponsive with mouse pointer stuck in upper left of display.
Note: OS 10.4 DVD boots fine, as well as my original AHT disc. Disk Utility & AHT have been run and both come up clean. Also zapped PRAM, etc.
I've tried everything I could come up with such as switching KB & Mouse to other USB ports, removing add-on cards, etc. with no luck whatsoever. Does any one have any tips, thoughts or workarounds? I'm fairly knowlegdeable but may be totally missing something. Otherwise, I just wasted 129 smackers...
    Setup:
    G4 QuickSilver - 2 x 1 GHZ (2002)
    1.5 GB ram
    Radeon 9600 PRO Mac/PC edition
    <No PCI cards installed>
    Apple 24-inch LCD display
    Apple USB Mighty Mouse
    Apple USB Pro Keyboard

For more (not good) news on this video card & Mac model combination, see http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/9600mac_pcedition.html.
I suspect that any video card that shipped as an OEM product with any Mac model that meets the Leopard system requirements (& is supported by the Quicksilver) will work. This is because the Leopard DVD will have the necessary video driver extensions for those cards, but not necessarily ones that support other cards. Searching through my /System/Library/Extensions folder indicates that the following types of OEM ATI Radeon cards should be supported, but there are no guarantees:
    ATI Radeon 8500
    ATI Radeon 9700
    ATI Radeon X1000
    ATI Radeon X2000
There are also a number of driver names associated with various nVidia GeForce cards, the other supplier of OEM video cards for Apple.
The "Catch 22" about this is that if there was a Leopard compatible driver extension for the 9600 available (which there does not seem to be), you could install one of the above cards, do the upgrade to Leopard, & add it to /System/Library/Extensions folder of your startup drive afterwards. Then, the Mac could boot from that startup disk with just that card installed ... but the Leopard DVD disk still wouldn't work for repairs that require booting from it.

  • Problem with XP Pro sp1 install - keyboard doesn't work - MBP

After using bootcamp to repartition the HD and rebooting with an xp pro sp1 cd, the blue windows installer loads and runs fine up to where you need to press the enter button to install windows or F3 to exit. At this point, the keyboard doesn't work at all and I have to push the power button. I also can not load osx or the osx boot disc, but the xp disc still loads fine. Currently working on slipstreaming a w/ sp2 to see if this will fix the problem. Prior to bootcamp, I upgraded osx and my firmware. Anyone else encounter this?

You need to use SP2. There is a reason it's recommended by Apple. If you have a valid XP install disk you can easily slipstream it with SP2, which is perfectly legal and effective, and is a relatively painless process.

  • Panasonic DMR EZ37V, dvd don;t work , DVD are not finalized

We have a Panasonic DMR EZ37V that will no longer play DVDs. We want to get another DVD recorder, but want to know if DVD's not finalized on our machine will work on another company's DVD player-recorder

    Welcome to the forum, charles!!
You're new, so don't sweat it, but this question belongs in the TV and home theater section. Flagged as such.
    To answer your question, however...
I'm inclined to say yes, but I'll admit I'm guessing. Take an un-finalized disc to the store and ask to play it. They won't have a problem doing that for you if it earns your business. Good luck.

  • Burned DVDs don't work in DVD player

Hi, I've burned a couple of DVDs using my MacBook Pro, and although they play OK in the Mac they don't play in my DVD player or on a PC. Has anyone else found this? My latest effort was an iDVD movie that was over an hour long and so I used the 'highest quality' setting and PAL because I thought that's what you use for the UK. It all worked quite slowly as my MacBook Pro doesn't have much free space left.
    Any ideas?

Did you select PAL BEFORE starting your project or after you had started? You should select PAL before starting a project. This could cause problems with your DVD player.
What brand of writable DVD media did you use? Was it DVD-R or DVD+R? What was the rated burn speed?
It all worked quite slowly as my MacBook Pro doesn't have much free space left.
This can cause lots of problems in creating a project. You probably should have over 10 GB free to do any iDVD work.

  • IMac (Intel) Restore DVDs don't work if the drive has been formatted first

    Here's an interesting find...
we have a gob of iMac G5s that were being re-imaged and one iMac Intel was mistakenly re-imaged with a G5 dmg (via Firewire Target Disk Mode).
As expected, the iMac Intel wouldn't boot from a 10.4.4 image built on a G5, but now when I try to restore the Intel back to the out-of-the-box state (booting from its OS dvds), the installer reports "You cannot install Mac OS X on this volume. Mac OS X cannot start up from this volume." The Options button is greyed-out (where normally you could select Options and choose Erase and Install).
Further inspection on another out-of-the-box Intel iMac (in Firewire Target Disk Mode) shows its hard drive is actually partitioned into two volumes: One is a 200MB partition, the other is the remainder and mounts as Macintosh HD. The 200 MB partition will not mount (via Disk Utility).
I'm assuming that since the Intel iMac's drive was erased prior to booting from it's OS DVDs, the necessary partitions are not present.
Anyone have any info? I'm guessing that since I did not initiate the restore from the DVD's "Install Mac OS X and Applications" script the drive did not get partitioned correctly...
    TIA -m.

Yeah, I found that out. Here's one link that describes the issue:
    http://db.tidbits.com/getbits.acgi?tbart=08405
My point was to illustrate the OS Installer/Disk Utility’s inability (while booted from the OS DVD) to provide the option to choose the GUID partitioning scheme for a volume during an “erase and install” on a drive that has been previously formatted under the “traditional” partition scheme – the “options” button does not appear.
To reinstall to factory defaults, I had to boot the target iMac into Firewire disk mode and use another iMac (Intel) and its Disk Util to get the “options” button to select the GUID partition scheme.
Oh well, I’m sure Apple’s working on that…
    -m.
