Win 7 and distiller 5

Had pagermaker701 with distiller 5 on old  xp machine. Acrobat distiller also showed up  as a printer. On new machine, Acrobat distiller won't show up as a printer. I am now using indesign cs4 (new machine win 7) where I have to place my excel files after I  have "printed" them from excel to a .pdf having used distiller. Distiller won't show up as a printer. Yikes, I'm guessing it's too old, right? or is there a way of making it work?

Check out CutePDF or visit planetpdf.com
There's plenty of low cost alternatives but note that if you want to be able to really work with PDFs you should have Acrobat Pro in your toolbox.

  • Acrobat and Distiller 5.0 on Windows 7. Is it possible to manage it to print on PDF or update it?

I just installed the Acrobat and Distiller 5.0 on Windows 7. Is it possible to manage it to print on PDF? Or is it possible to update it to support Win 7?

    Hi NicoNeto,
Acrobat 5.0 is not compatible with Windows 7. You need to purchase Acrobat XI as it is fully compatible with Windows 7 or later.

  • Unable to print to oversize pages using Adobe FrameMaker 9 \ 7.2 and Distiller 9.0

I am trying to print to PDF a publication that is full of oversize wiring diagrams from Adobe FrameMaker 9 and 7.2 with Distiller 9.0. The pages are all text and images ranging in size from standard A3 and A4 size sheets through to a foldout being 1470 mm W X 297 mm H. We have no problem printing A3, A4 and 630 mm W X 297 H. These are all Portrait images. When we set up our custom print size to accomodate the 1470 mm W X 297 mm H we get the pages without the content, and even some of the oversize pages are not the correct size on print.
The page sizes we are using are:
    A4 (This is all good)
    A3 (This is all good)
630 x 297 mm (This is all good)
840 x 297 mm (Problems from here on)
    1050 x 297 mm
    1260 x 297 mm
    1470 x 297 mm
The procedures we are using to set up the printing are:
    1.      Print to PDF (Also tried save to PDF)
Under Print Setup make sure you select PDF Driver and select the Paper size as largest that is in your book.  Example: If A4 and A3 pages, print to A3
    2.      Select Generate Acrobat Data and select
See attached Screen shots for the settings we are using:
Note: Back in FM Print dialogue; make sure Print to File is turned OFF, before you click Print
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards

Create a specific FM file having a custom page size appropriate to each unique "content set".
    Create a FM Book file.
    Add the FM files.
Work up configuration (Hypertext, Cross-References, autonumbering, variables, etc.) as desired.
    In Print Setup -
Set page size to the page size of the largest FM file in the Book.
(you may have to go into the Adobe Printer and add one or more custom page sizes so the page size needed is available)
Set orientation to landscape if any FM files are such.
Idea is, if needed, FM files for the content in the various page size/orientation that is appropriate to the content.
If that means 1FM file of custom size and appropriate orientation then do it.
Book files can deal with it.
    Back to Page Setup.
Do the Page Size & Orientation.
Access 'Propertires' - is the Distiller job option selected the one you want/need?
Create one if need be so that it is available.
Go into the Print Book dialog.
Configure as needed (remember Acrobat data links, etc.  &, oh yes, back in FM be happy with the configurations under tabs for PDF Setup).
    Print the Book.
Use Distiller to take to output *.ps to *.pdf (may want the use a "watched folder")
Output PDF can/will reflect the the different page sizes and page orientations.
    n.b., FM-Acobat-Distiller releases have a "sync band".
It is discussed somewhere in some kb articles.
I'm not sure if FM7.2 functions quite right with Distiller 9.
FM 8 will (&, of course FM 9)
I've had no problems with FM7.2 or FM8 and Distiller 8.
    Be well...

  • Problems with Acrobat 8 and distiller 8 when printing PDF.

    Hello,
    I got this problem:
I have Acrobat 8 Pro and Distiller 8.
Everytime i want to use Distiller 8 to generate PDF's containing MathType characters, it makes postscripts incomplete.!!..
We have tried updating Acrobat 8 with no results, then we tried installing the previous version (7.0) and we solve the problem.
Obviously this may not be the best solution to my problem, if anyone know what can be wrong, or what can i do.. i'll be really glad to read it.
    Thanx in advance.

Acrobat 8 is not certified for Win7, particularly the x64 version. If you got the installation to go, the first step is to update AA8 to at least AA8.2. The x64 with XP required at least AA8.2 and I suspect that has not changed. I would suggest updating to the latest, either from the help menu (until no more updates are available) or by downloading the updates from the adobe.com>downloads page. For the latter, download ALL updates after your current version and install them in ORDER. They are not cummulative in most cases. You only need to reboot after the final update. The updates may get you going. If not, you may simply have to upgrade to AA9 or search for what others have been able to do in your situation.

  • PDF writer and distiller do not appear as available in windows 7 using Acrobat 5

Trying to install my Acrobat 5 with Windows 7. The pdf writer and distiller appear to instal after satisfying the syetm requirement for a postscript driver.  The software then installs fully but the pdf writer and distiller do not show up under printers.  There is a warning that a compatibility issue exists, how can this be fixed please?

Acrobat 5 is not supported on Windows 7. You need to upgrade. Sorry about that.

  • Wine and xrandr

I'm trying to run some games with wine, but everyone shows the same problem when I try to run it in fullscreen.
For instance if I run Starcraft or Fallout 2, terminal says:
    fixme:advapi:SetSecurityInfo stub
    fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32f420,0x00000000), stub!
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 640x480x8 @0! (XRandR)
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 1680x1050x8 @0! (XRandR)
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 1680x1050x32 @0! (XRandR)
So I've found out that xrandr only has one mode:
    Screen 0: minimum 2960 x 1050, current 2960 x 1050, maximum 2960 x 1050
    default connected 2960x1050+0+0 0mm x 0mm
    2960x1050 50.0*
As you see, I have a dual monitor setup on nvidia card, and I configured everything with nvidia-settings.
So my question - how do I add more 'modes' to xrandr.

Since this is a problem which many have even today, im posting this GREAT solution

and mods, i hope this is not considered 'necroposting the ONLY solution', im sorry if it is.

  • Wine and directsound 3d

I have a problem with wine, I have enabled hardware sound with winecfg but I have errors anyway when I start games with wine, errors say that hardware acceleration is not enabled and wine will use HEL instead. I can't post the errors cause now i'm in an other computer, anyway someone could advice me? I'm playing starcraft 2 with wine and it has very low fps, with windows 7 is better.
    thank you

  • Wine and resolution issue

    hello!
i have used archlinux for a year or so. everything went quite perfectly, but because archlinux is not multilib (i need it for my 32-bit blitzmax application) i installed gentoo last week. and because gentoo did not get me "that feeling" of arch, i went back and reinstalled arch...completely new. now i have got problems with 32bit-wine. i am using arch64 and never had such a problem. we are discussing that in the german forums without any solutions yet so i hope you could help me. i guess nobody else has this problem (because i did not read of it) so i must be an idiot and do sth. wrong .
ok, first, this issue does not appear when running native 64bit applications, like frozen-bubble iin fullscreen. so i guess it has sth to do with the lib32 packages...dont know. when i am running windows games iin wine (bin32-wine 1.1.17 or bin32-wine-suse 1.1.18 from aur) in fullscreen, wine changes the resolution as it has to be (640x480, 800x600 or whatever), but i can still use my mouse and move it to the right or bottom edge and can so navigate through the whole screen ( so i can see the rest of my gnome desktop for example). because of that my games are unplayable. it happens to morrowind, half-life (the old one, not the source-based) & half-life 2, so it not depends on one game. i tried running wine using xrandr resolution changer (changed in wine config) but the i cannot change the resolution from my native one (1680x1050), also not perfectly, because i want to play my games in 800x600 ^^.
but remember, it did work quite well two weeks ago :-\ (i will never change my distro again, i will never change my distro again... )
here is maybe stuff you will need:

  • [SOLVED] WINE and Eve Online

First off, I am not using 64bit.
Lately, running Wine and Eve-Online is fine.
However, when I Quit from the game menu...it freezes.
I actually have to x-it-out (the wine window), and a window pops up with
"A simulated logout was in the process and is not responding".. or some such thing
and then I can terminate it and get my desktop back.
I've seen several posts about this, but no resolve.

    aur/wine-d3dstream-git
I compiled this again two-three days ago, and am seeing good effect in EVE in particular, with an nVidia 660, both with and without bumblebee.
I use PlayOnLinux to manage my WINE prefixes. It turns out the 1.7.18-CS-0.8-f1cf438 build is a build of the HEAD of that repository. So I switched to that WINE version, and yes, the problem is solved.
I also created a CSMT-enabling registry key. To do so, launch regedit, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/Direct3D, right click and select New > String Value “CSMT”. Then, double click and set the string to “enabled”.
    Thank you!
    Neat!
Then the million isk question is, "Why does the CSMT build not display this issue?"
I just might have to put on my scuba gear and go diving into this some more when the schedule permits.

  • [SOLVED] Playing sound simultaniously from wine and other applications

I'm using Pulseaudio with the following packages installed:
    ~> pacman -Q | grep 'alsa\|pulse'
    alsa-lib 1.0.27.2-1
    alsa-plugins 1.0.27-2
    alsa-utils 1.0.27.2-1
    lib32-alsa-lib 1.0.27.2-1
    lib32-libpulse 5.0-1
    libpulse 5.0-1
    pulseaudio 5.0-1
    pulseaudio-alsa 2-2
When running a wine application sound works, unless a linux application is playing sound. If that is the case, no sound is playing from the wine app until sound from the linux application stops (for example by pausing smplayer).
Is there any way to make sound work simultaneously from wine and native applications?

Yes to Postscript export and Distiller, no to PDF Optimizer. You can find the help doc at: http://www.adobe.com/support/acrobat/

  • Can I share color profiles and distiller settings with all user accounts on my imac?

Everyone in our studio is on OSX 10.8.3 with adobe cs6 (not creativecliud version).
I have installed color settings and distiller settings on to the macs under the employees user profile.
All the machines also have a general user profile which anyone can use (setup mainly for use by freelancers).
Is there a space on the macs where i can install the color profiles and distiller settings so that all user accounts have them set up?
At the moment i am having to go into each user account on each machine and do it manually.
Also once i have installed distiller settings in one user account I can't install them on subsequent users.
I have tried placing the files in the

In that case, assuming your wife's XP User Account can access the D: drive as well, you don't have to bother with the To share your music with other accounts on the computer section of that article. That's already taken care of.
Just log into her account and head directly to the To listen to another account's music files section and follow those instructions.
If I had to emphasize one step to keep from stuffing it up, it would be:
    4. Deselect the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library file" option.
("Deselect" being a fancy way of saying "uncheck")

  • Wine and crossover and anyu other vs vmware

    whats better in performance
    vmware or wine and etc
    i am talking about games
on what software it will run faster

To play relatively new games, Cedega is by far the easiest way.  It requires a subscription fee, or you can compile it for yourself, and get a few less features.  It's worth the fee if you consider yourself a gamer, as it just streamlines the whole process.
Games will play underneath apps like Wine still, but it can be difficult for modern games, and can require lots of workarounds.  I only play games occasionally, and when I do they're pretty old (Starcraft, warcraft, doom, etc) so wine is more than capable to suit my needs.

  • Wine and PulseAudio 5.0

Seems since PulseAudio updated to version 5, Wine and PlayOnLinux cannot seem to use the following library even though it exists in the directory.
ALSA lib dlmisc.c:252:(snd1_dlobj_cache_get) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib32/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so
Any ideas how to fix this issue, the library actually exists in that directory.

V1del wrote:@Daerandin I'm pretty sure its a different issue, you get SOME sound from timidity it doesn't not find the alsa lib and crashes a horrible death
Yes it might be unrelated. If I find myself with some extra time during next week I will see if I can figure out what the problem is with Timidity. As I said, Timidity actually works if I select my laptop's internal speakers as default sound output, instead of my USB headset. Munt from AUR behaves in a somewhat similar manner. It works as long as it outputs to internal speakers. Unlike Timidity, Munt stops working if I switch output to my headphones. The sound mixing simply stops immediately if switch output to USB headset. The relevant output in terminal is:
    Scanning audio devices ...
MT-32 emulator ALSA address is: "128:0"
    Scanning audio devices ...
    Using ALSA audio device: default
Using audio latency: 2048 frames, chunk size: 512 frames
    ALSA audio: Processing thread started
    snd_pcm_writei failed: Broken pipe
    ALSA audio: Processing thread stopped
    ALSAMidiDriver: Connected application "129:0 DOSBOX"
When I have the time to sink my teeth into this I might pursue the matter in a seperate topic.
As for the PlayOnLinux issue, the file referred to in the error message is provided by lib32-alsa-plugins. This file is not affected by the Pulseaudio update, so I would assume there is some problem in how Pulseaudio interacts with the application.
Edit: PlayOnLinux devs just confirmed that since Wine does not support Pulse by default, they will not either. Now I happen to quite enjoy Pulseaudio so I will look into possibly workarounds while still having Pulseaudio. If I find a good solution I will make sure to mention it in this topic.
