Win 7 basic, failed to upgrade from iTunes 10.4 to 10.5

I was previously using iTunes 10.4 with no problem, so I doubt it's not really a Windows problem. However I was trying to update my iTunes to 10.5 because of iOS5, the Apple Software Update stuck on the installation. So I was advised to download the update manually, which I did, and install the update.
To cut the story short, it was a failed attempt. I uninstall iTunes and all its related software (and I think I screwed up everything by not uninstalling the softwares in its order). Anyway I ensured no trace of apple related files in my computer, and when I tried to install iTunes 10.5, it said "Apple mobile device failed to start.
Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
This is really frustrating. Anyone got any similar experience and able to help? I have tried reinstalling, uninstalling for a few hours. This is unnecessary issue to start with.

I recieved the same message. Have you found a fix to this?
If not, read my issue because I belive we have the same

  • Problem upgrading from iTunes 7 to iTunes 8 because of iTunes.msi

When I tried to upgrade from iTunes 7.? to iTunes 8, I was asked to locate iTunes.msi, but was unable to locate that file on my system. I cancelled out of the program install, believing that I would keep using the old version until I figured out the issue. However, doing that apparently uninstalled my previous iTunes version. Now I cannot use iTunes since the version 8 won't install, and the site doesn't seem to offer any older versions that actually work.

This error usually responds to an installer cleanup with the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility. I will give a method for full removal of iTunes and related programs, but you might get away with just doing the iTunes bits.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • How do I upgrade from ITunes 10.6.3 to ITunes 10.6.8?

How do I upgrade from ITunes 10.6.3 to ITunes 10.6.8? Unable to find a download? I need to get to the point of ITunes 10.6.8 so I can then upgrade to ITunes 10.7 so that i can sync with my iphone 5.
Am i on the right path or do i need to upgrade my software which is OS X version 10.5.8?
    Any help is appeciated.

All these programs levels are a little confusing ..... you currently are on OS X 10.5.8 and want to upgrade to OS X 10.6.8, so you can download iTunes 7.
You'll need to call the online Apple store, which in the US is 800-MY-APPLE, and buy OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, from the legacy products list. You'll use the DVD they send to install the new operating system, then run Software Update several times until there are no more updates. At that point, you'll be at 10.6.8 and can download iTunes 7.
PS. Be sure and have a system backup before upgrading your operating system.

  • Is upgrading from iTunes 7.7.1.11 to 8.2.1 safe?

I need to upgrade from iTunes 7.7.1.11 to the newest version of 8.2.1.6, using Windows XP and Internet Explorer 7. As is the case with many posters, the upgrade tool available through iTunes does not work (this is why I've missed a few upgrades in between). But now I own an iTouch and I want to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes.
Since the upgrade tool on iTunes doesn't work, I have gone to the Apple iTunes Download page at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and clicked the download button. When I get the prompt to save the iTunesSetup Installer, I realize that I already have the iTunes Installer on my computer (from back in May of 2007). Thus, I don't know whether I should run the Installer that I already have on my computer (from 2007) or replace it with the new Installer via the download prompt.
I'm trying to be very careful here, because iTunes has already crashed on me twice this year, corrupting my library files and forcing me to do all-day recoveries, so I want to make sure I'm proceeding in the safest way possible. I'm especially worried that iTunes may not work, because I've missed some upgrades between versions 7.7.1.11 and 8.2.1.6.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

FYI: It looks as though I was able to update my iTunes from version 7.7.1.11 to the new 9.0. I did it from the Apple download page and I clicked the Run button instead of the Save button. Now, do I get points for answering my own question?

  • I can't seem to upgrade from iTunes 10.3 to iTunes 10.5 after installing Lion

Does anybody know who to upgrade from iTunes 10.3 to 10.5 after upgrading to Lion.  It's not working for me.  Always stay at 10.3, can't upgrade iPhone to IOS 5.  Help!!

You need to use the combo updater in order to make the jump directly to 10.2.8. If you are using the incremental updater it won't work.
Instead of downloading the updater I suggest you use Software Update to update your computer. In addition to the combo updater you will probably need some additional updates. Software Update will list all the updates you need, download them and install them automatically for you.
Before you do the updates, however, be sure to do the following:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.0.6 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Do not update the computer until you have verified that the hard drive is OK and your permissions have been repaired.

  • 'Upgrading' from iTunes 7 to iTunes 6.0.5

For those of you who hate the new iTunes, here's how to 'upgrade' to iTunes 6.0.5...
First, go to <your home folder>/Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries/
and copy the most recent file (i.e. the one with the most recent date on) to your Desktop.
Now, go to <your hard drive>/Library/Recipts/
    and trash iTunesX.pkg
Now you can download and install 6.0.5 again.
Next, rename the previous Library file "iTunes Library" and move it to <your home folder>/Music/iTunes/
And go back to the good interface design we are all used to...
    Hope this helps.
    PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8GHz, Serial CK412J81QVH   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I had so many problems with iTunes 7 that I decided to go back to iTunes 6.0.5. Basically, iTunes 7 crashed when importing cd's and played files as if they where scratched.
But now I'm having trouble installing the 6.0.5 version. First, I trashed everything that I found on the spotlight related to the word "itunes", including application, libraries (new and old ones), documents, folders, playlists...everything. I didn't even care if I deleted my music files (in fact I did it).
Then I downloaded the 6.0.5 but when I run the installation it appears "there's nothing to install" and "a newer version is installed on this computer".
So it seems as though I'm still missing something to trash. Can you help me? It's as if I still have iTunes 7 installed!

  • Apps disappear after upgrade from iTunes 8 to 9.2.1

I had to replace my old iPhone 3G, upgraded to an iPhone 4, and iTunes told me it couldn't sync with my new iPhone until I upgraded to iTunes 9.2. So, I did, and in the process all of my apps disappeared. I can't get them off my old 3G because it's completely dead (went through the washing machine), and I don't particularly feel like having to buy the apps I've already purchased again.
I'm not too concerned with the free apps, but how can I get the apps that I paid money for back?

how can I get the apps that I paid money for back?
Redownload them from the iTunes Store. It's free as long as you can access the original account.

  • Upgrading  from iTunes 7 to iTunes 9.02 problem.

    Hi,
I've upgraded from 7.something to 9.0.2 and it will not start with my personnal itunes Library. My library is located outside the default folder. iTunes seems to start OK only with the "normal", new and empty itunes library from the music/itunes/itunes library.
I can't afford to lose my library since it contains so many lists and the "added date" is important to me.
How can I migrate this old version of iTunes library to the new one?
I've never upgraded iTunes for the past 2 years because I was afraid that it would not be compatible with another software called M-audio Torq which uses the IT library to browse throught my music. After verification, it is compatible with newer versions of iTunes so now I end up with this situation...
    Any clues?!

My library is located outside the default folder.
    try this:
press option and launch iTunes. you will see this
click +choose library+ and navigate to the iTunes library file (wherever that is).
    what happens ?

  • Upgrade from iTunes 7.0.2.16 to iTunes 7.1

I just upgraded to iTunes 7.1 and the upgrade went smoothly and it seems to be working well. One positive is that it got rid of the black diagonal line I've always had on my album covers.

I've just upgraded to version 7.1, apparently all went fine then I got the message:
The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
Version 7.0.2.16 was working fine!! Believe me if it ain't broken then don't fix it!
Is there a way I can download the previous version from apples website?

  • Basic questions? Upgrade from v 1.56??

Can anybody tell me if you can upgrade from 1.56 to aperture 3? And will that convert my old library so that I use it in the new version?
I upgraded to snow leopard and now cannot access my old library.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks
    joe
(Kinda ***** to be forced into upgrading!) Any way to gain access to the contents of my old library without upgrading?

Sorry, "stinks" is what i meant to say.
"Kinda stinks to be forced into upgrading"
(I didn't realize that the word that i used was offensive) Sorry everybody!!
Any suggestions for getting an answer to my question? I would think that any common user of this forum would know the answer. I was trying to avoid making a phone call.
    The info is greatly appreciated!!
Can one upgrade normally from v 1.56 to v 3?
Is the integrity of the old library in tack with the newer version???
    Anybody??
    thanks

  • Upgraded from iTunes 9.2.1 (worked great) to 10.6.1.7 and cannot connect to iTunes store.

I've tried all the troubleshooting documents for iTunes for Windows and nothing works.  The Help files in iTunes do not display - just blank windows.  Ran the diagnostics and they say that a secure connection to iTunes store cannot be established, but the Help button brings up a blank window.
No error is ever displayed.  It just continues to say "Accessing iTunes Store..." forever.  Just got a new iPhone 4s and would love to sync it, register it, etc. but no luck there.
