Win 7 Drag and Drop stopped working after iTunes update

I really hope that this is the right sub-forum for this.
Here goes:
A few days ago I finally upgraded to 9.1.1.12 and today I was in for a nasty surprise: I can't move MP3s from windows explorer into the iTunes window any more.
I often create playlists and then drag files I get from a few bands I follow directly into those playlists. This is an easy and painless process. My FTP client downloads the files into a prearranged folder whenever they get a new song up, and I then open said folder and drag and drop the file into iTunes.
I just got a new song to listen to today, wanted to drag it in an... Nothing. Just the black, crossed-through circle of "No".
It worked last week. It worked the week before. It worked the years before.
I got Win7 64 in April. It worked on it since then.
It stopped working today.
And no, I won't let iTunes consolidate or organize my media. It only organizes files bought via the iTunes store, nothing I rip from CDs or obtain otherwise, as those files have to be playable by two other players as well. But, again: Until this night it worked without a problem. And after the new update... Stopped.
Is there a new option I'm missing?

I was able to fix it.
I simply stopped running iTunes in Admin mode. For some reason, running it in administrator mode makes it behave "worse" than not doing so.
When I ran it as a normal program, I was able to drag files into it correctly again.
Which is weird, as the last version was also running in admin mode, but worked perfectly.

Just recently upgraded to latest iTunes 10.4, OS X 10.5.8 and Wacom driver 6.1.6-4. Drag and drop a selection to a playlist in iTunes no longer works. All was fine before iTunes/OS upgrade. Only upgraded Wacom to see if it made a difference which it didn't. Dragging and dropping with a USB mouse seems okay. I've noticed several similar problems on this board with no solution. Anyone else having this issue that has found a solution? Thanks.

Your case sounds very similar to mine. I a bit older Mac G5 running OS X 10.5.8. When I upgraded to iTunes 10.4 I found the drag and drop gone and a few other inconsistencies. I reloaded iTunes and now everything works pretty well, but if I go into the iTunes Store my drag and drop feature goes away. If i relaunch iTunes it comes back until I go in the Store again. Hoping someone more familiar with the OS and application details can point me in some direction. Thx

Itunes 11.1.5.5 - Drag and drop stopped working

Using windows 8.1 and I tunes 11.1.5.5.
I am unable to copy songs from music file to itunes library using drag and drop.
Previously this functionality worked to transfer over 8,000 songs.....now with latest I tunes update.....kaput.
Please help me to get back my efficiency.

It sounds like be LaunchServices.
Launch /Utilities/Terminal and copy & paste this at the command line to rebuild LaunchServices:

Drag and drop not working in itunes?

I've recentlt udated to Snow Leopard and my itunes id up to date. First thing I noticed is that many things I used to do via drag and drop won't work anymore. or instance, i create a play list then I want to dag songs to it but it won't do it. I have to right click on the file and then select 'add to play list' and choose which playlist to add to. next, I want to rearrange the order of songs in a playlist and before I wold just click on the song and drag it up or down into the spot I want. Well It won't let me do it. Basically you need to add tracks in the order you want the first time.
What's going on here, is this the way it is now or am I doing something wrong. BTW, I'm a long time mac user (since early 90s) and this is the most non intuitive experience I have ever had on a mac.

well I discovered the problem after some research. It seems that if you have a wacom tablet and mouse, your mac won't allow you to do some drag and drop features. I have a microsoft mouse attached as well and it works fine.

Drag and Drop not working in iTunes (Mountain Lion)

Earlier today the drag and drop function in iTunes stopped working.
It was working yesterday and this morning, but no longer.
I have not updated any software in a few days, but I did install
JAVA 7 right before it stopped working. I have since deleted the Java 7 files
in Library necessary for ridding my computer of it.
Drag and drop is still fully functional in Finder, Mail, etc
It seems to be broken only in iTunes.
I don't have any clue why this has happened.
Any help is much appreciated.

Drag and drop stopped working

I have a windows PC with windows 7
I am using iTunes 10
everything was working fine yesterday and then suddenly, when I try to drag and drop items from iTunes to my iPod classic I am unable to do so
If I select the songs to drag and hover over the playlist I want to drop them into, the cursor shows the no entry sign (circle with diagonal line), and am unable to do so
Everything is set up to manually manage music and videos
No updates have occurred on my PC
Have restarted iTunes and PC to no effect
I have plenty space on my iPod (47.2GB free)
Can anyone help?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Dragging is dependent on the Helvetica font. Check with Font Book to make sure it's there and activated. It it's there and activated try deactivating and then reactivating it.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Drag and Drop not working in iTunes 12.1.0.71

I've been working with iTunes on a PC for years - so I'm embarrassed I can't figure this out. As recently as a few weeks ago, I could drag and drop movies and music from Windows Explorer into iTunes 12.1.0.71- now it's not working. Even using the menus for File - Add File to the Library isn't working. Did something change in this release?

Sorry 1 correction on my earlier post. Install iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16) NOT 12.1.0.71!

- C:\Users\%profile%\AppData\LocalLow
- C:\Users\%profile%\AppData\Roaming
Rebooted

Installed the newest QuickTime 7.7.6

Drag and Drop stops working!

I have been using various versions of Final Cut for the last several years, and other similar video editors for much longer (finally left the world of the PC for video editing a few years ago!).
I am excited by Final Cut Pro X and am learning it quickly. For some reason, very soon (as soon as 5 minutes in) the drag and drop functionality stops working. I can't drag clips from the browser, can't drag effects, etc. I know how to get the same results with keyboard shortcuts, but I'm just much faster with the ol' mouse.
I am in the midst of my first major project using FCPX and having to reboot (edit, restart FCPX, rebooting not necessary!) every 5 to 15 minutes to restore D&D is getting old!
Any suggestions would be very helpful.
The selection tool is selected (no settings are changed from when the program first boots).
The machine is an i3 with 12GB of RAM, so should have plenty of resources. Otherwise it's working like a champ!

Drag and drop stops working in maverick

Hello,
running Maverick and running into this issue twice already.
I can't drag files in finder. I can select them, I can multiple select them by dragging, but clicking on them and draging them does not work at all until I reboot.
Anyone know of this issue?

I just wanted you to know that I'm having the same problem. I just bought a Macbook Pro (maverick os) last week and today the drag and drop function stopped working. VERY frustrating since I use that function no less than 50 times a day. This is my first mac, so I was worried the solution was obvious and I just wasn't seeing it; then I found this thread. Glad to know I'm not crazy!
The restart solution does work, but I hate the idea of constantly restarting the computer. I will let you know if I find another solution.

Embed animate file in Dreamweaver, make the drag and drop stop working

The drag and drop works fine when I open the Animate file, but when I embed it using the "Media > Edge Animate", it does not work. How can I solve this problem?
I'm using an external js file.

Airtunes and Airport not working after Itunes update

Help
I have a new airport and before updating to the new version of iTunes it worked perfectly. Now the green light flashes (an option I ticked to show activity) but no music comes from the device. Same problem here.
My base station, which is newer, is working still, but the latest iTunes update knocked out my older AirPort Express.
I've tried many times to reset the Express with a paperclip but no results. After resetting the Express, AirPort Utility reads it through a scan, but when I try to add Express to my existing network it drops out and fails to reconnect.
I'm stuck with a flashing yellow light. AirPort Utility can't pick it up in another scan unless I go back and reset the Express with a paperclip and the process starts all over again.

My 3rd party 30-pin adapter stopped working after iTunes update

Although I've been getting warning messages ever since my iPhone was updated to iOS7, I was still able to charge my phone with the 3rd party 30-pin to lightning adapter. But suddenly yesterday the adapter stopped working. the only thing I can think of was that I plugged in my iPhone 5 to iTunes to sync my music, and my PC updated my iTunes to v11.1.3.8. Can anybody offer any help as to how I can get my cable to work again?

That's because the adapter was produced illegally using stolen Apple patented technology. It does not have the proper authentication/DAC chip in it. Buy a legal 30-pin to lightning adapter.

Volume control and video stopped working after recent update

I am having two problems that started at the same time. First, I cannot control the volume. When I hit the volume control buttons the volume display comes up but with a circle with a line through it. I checked the sound in Preferences and it showed no outputs, not even the internal speakers. I do still get the tone at startup but nothing else will play sound. Second, I can't seem to play videos from any online source (i.e. YouTube, Hulu, etc). Any attempts to do so lock up my browsers (both Safari and Firefox). I can play iTunes videos, but there is still no sound. I've only had the computer a couple of months and haven't recently installed anything new on it. My computer did download 3 updates earlier today though I don't remember checking what they were. Any help anyone can give me would be most appreciated.

I did what you suggested and after the apple icon, I get the iTunes icon with a plug in cord.
After plugging in, a box pops up in itunes indicating it has detected an ipad in recovery mode and it says it can not connect with itunes until restored. I have attempted to restore via itune but the next pop up box say "this device is not eligible for the requested build."
When I hit "more information" I am told to update my itunes to the latest which results in my having to download iOS 7.0.4 on my macbook pro.
Am I at a stand still because I won't download 7.0.4 on my macbook pro?

Drag n drop not working in iTunes

Hello all, it seems randomly that drag n drop stops working in iTunes for me. The only way to fix it is to quit iTunes and restart it again. Does any one have a suggestion that could help me fix it? Thanks!

I am having the same problem. Even restarting does not work, i am using a jail iphone 3gs, not sure if thats got anything to do with it?
Anyone help, the only way i can get albums etc to add is to sync and that messing all kinds up.

LR5.7, drag and drop not working...suggestions?

Two days ago, drag and drop stopped working within lightroom (dragging a photo/photos from the filmstrip at the bottom to a different folder, or into a collection). The cursor on the screen stays an arrow when you click on a photo and hold the left mouse button down, it will highlight the image in the filmstrip or grid view, but will not do anything with it. I've never had anything like this happen before. iMac, 32gb ram, OSX 10.10.1, LR5.7.

And my question refers to the right click >> Run as administrator option. It was not the question if your login has administrative rights.... sorry for the confusion.
