Win 7, .flv file association to Flash player

I lost the association for my .flv files, it should be a simple matter to indicate that they should open with adobe flash player, but I can't find the application!
I have the pathway "C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash" which contains the following files: "Flash10d.ocx" ,"FlashUtil10d", "FlashUtil10e_ActiveX.dll", "install.txt" and the uninstaller, none of which are suitable to open the .flv files. The .ocx file isn't an application and Win 7 can't open these files with that association and the "Util" files are adobe flash helpers.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled repeatedly that's all I get in that folder. I can open some Internet files which require Flash and the adobe page indicates that the Flash play7er is successfully installed. . . it's just the link to the .flv files.

To be clear, the Flash Player does NOT open a .flv file directly. You can create or get a Flash Application that can load and playback .flv file.

  • Opening FLV files using Adobe Flash Player 10.3.181.23

    Hello
I have with me a few FLV files from YouTube - so i had searched that Flash Players could open such files.
I'd like to enquire if this version of Flash Player 10.3.181.23 does work? Are there other steps i have to undertake before opening these FLV files?
My computer has Windows XP; and meets the system requirements for using Flash Players.
Looking forward to your further guidance in this forum.
    Kind Regards.

    You mean local FLV files?
No, Flash Player cannot play them, even the standalone player.  You need Adobe Media Player to play these.
Unfortunately AMP is no longer available for download from the Adobe site; you will have to download it from some 3rd-party download site.

  • Play flv file in Adobe Flash Player

I am new to flash. Can the Adobe Flash player play an
external flv file directly? I tried and it can't play. It looks
like the flash player can only play swf file. How does the flv file
get played by the Adobe Flash Player?
    Thanks.

No it can't, you need SWF to load the file within.

  • SWF File in Adobe Flash Player

I've created a flash animation (the backgroung is moving horizontally and vertically according to the movement of the mouse), the problem is that when I open my SWF file in Adobe Flash Player 10.0 the whole animation is shaking. (In Adobe Flash in preview mode it looks fine)
Any ideas how to fix this ?

    Hi,
When you mean by shaking does it mean that the animation does not run smooth or it actually cuts frames? You might want to check if the same thing happens to the animation if you export it as an html(File--> Preview--> HTML). If that is happening it can be three things:
Video Card Driver problem: maybe update your video card drivers or something might be going on with the video rendering software
    Computer Speed(which I really don't think)
Flash Driver problems: try uninstalling the flash player program and installing the latest version(I also don't think you will have problems there)
    Hope this helps you,

If the files are already there, they'll never be overwritten when you visit a
new site, would they ? That's how the cache works :-)

  • File associations in Flash PPC

Attempting to associate a .swf file to Flash but
    unsuccessful.
I installed Flash Player 7.0 for Pocket PC on my IPAQ 3955. I
then placed the .swf file into my storage card. It is a small flash
app that was created for Pocket PCs.
Anyways, I get the error Header XXXXX.swf "There is no
application associated with "xxxxxxxx". Run the application first,
then open this file from within the application.
My question is where do I find the file to open the
application or is there something else I can do to associate the
    file to Flash.

Or else, you could try this:

I am not the developer of this tool and don't get royalties
    from it, but
this question comes so often, that I think this might be the
    easiest way for
people to play SWFs on their device.
That is actually an idea for Adobe.
Create a player that also work as a standalone application
    for SWFs. This
    might make it more popular.

  • I can't open PDF files with adobe flash player

I have installed it and whenever I try to open pdf files it says I need to agree with your liscens and you do that automatically when you download it. I have followed all your instructions on your website and uninstalled it and installed again, but I can't open pdf files with it. I don't know what the problem is exactly, but it's really frustrating..

Flash Player CANNOT open PDFs because they AREN'T Flash Documents.
    Adobe Reader opens PDFs.
To accept the license agreement (NOT the one you accepted to download or install - the one for USE)
    Windows:
Go to: C/Program Files(x86)/Adobe/Reader 11.0/Reader and double click the eula.exe file. The license agreement will open for you to accept.
    Mac:
Go to: Mac HD/Applications and double click the Reader app. The license agreement will open THE FIRST TIME you open it.

  • I cannot print pdf files with Adobe flash player installed

    Hello,
I have just encountered an issue with printing PDF files on my computer. I am running windows 7 64 bit. I just upgraded to the latest Flash player with firefox addon. After I completed the upgrade, I soon realized that I could no longer print pdf files. Whenever I opened a pdf file and attempted to print it, through several different supported pdf programs, the print screen would up becoming unresponsive and I would have to close the pdf program through the task manager. I unistalled the adobe flash player and it's accompanied addon, and I was then able to print pdf files again without any issues. Can you please help me resolve this issue? Is anyone else having similar problems? Thank you in advance.

Very strange!  What is your installed Reader version?
Try disabling Protected Mode in Adobe Reader [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Exporting to swf file targeted to Flash Player version 9

I am trying to create a swf file targetted to version 9 of Flash Player, but when I export to the swf format from InDesign CS5, there doesn't seem to be an option to change the targeted version, and I get files targetted to version 10 instead.
I need to be able to target to version 9 to run in the zmags environment.
Does amyone know if there is there any way to do this from InDesign?
    Thanks!

Thank you kindly for your answer. I knew it was possible to do in Flash and I'm finishing it this time around using Flash Professional, but my client owns only InDesign at this point. I was hoping to discover how to do it with software she already has.
If it's the case that there's no way to do from InDesign alone, then that would be the answer. Before I share that unhappy news with her, though, I wanted to be certain there was no way to do it from within InDesign.
Do you know - is that definitely the case, then?
(um.... I just noticed you're a 'community professional' so I guess that would be the case then?
A 'yes' will suffice and I'll go away quietly)

  • Help for PowerPoint 2007 crash when running embedded SWF file with latest Flash Player?

I have developed in Xcelsius 2008 SP4 a dashboard with only Excel as the source. I output to PowerPoint and then save it as a PowerPoint 2003 PPS file. On more than a few machines that have PowerPoint 2007, PowerPoint crashes when I attempt to run the presentation. This happens only with later versions of Flash Player. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the latest Flash Player but it still crashes. However, when I revert back to Flash Player 10.1.159..., in PP 2007 the presentation runs perfectly.
With regard to the error I receive in PowerPoint 2007, it is as follows:
    Error Signature:
    AppName: powerpnt.exe AppVer: 12.0.6500.5000 AppStamp:49a68f9d
    ModName: flash10u.ocx ModVer: 10.3.181.34 ModStamp:4e011a1d
    fDebug: 0 Offset: 003a893c
Of note is that this behavior does not happen in PowerPoint 2003 nor does it happen when the file is saved as a SWF and launched directly in the browser on the problem machines.
I have to assume that this has happened to others so any help you could provide would be VERY appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hello,
on the first glance I see these: data="file:///Macintosh HD/Users/user/Documents/Website/Working.swf", what means the path to your swf file is pointing to your local hard drive which nobody can see except you. Please replace all thes pathes with the correct ones and load up your file(s) again.
If the problem remains, please send a link to your website in question, no matter how it looks like..

  • Playing large video files in the flash player

    Hi,
At the moment I'm trying to play large video files (1GB+) in the JW Player, but after a certain amount of time, around 67 to 70 minutes, the video just stops playing. Does the Flash Player have a limit on the size of video files?

I'd need to debug it to figure out what's going on.
The best way to get traction on this is to file a bug.  If you can provide a link that demonstrates the problem, that would be ideal.

Post the bug number here, and I'll forward it over to the video team.

  • Win 7 64bit hangs on latest Flash Player Update

Win 7 64bit hangs on the latest Flash Player Update. It happened twice yesterday, after I installed the latest (automatic) Flash Player Update. After I uninstalled that Update, my system was stable again. Now I lack Flash Player, but at least I have a stable system.

    Hi Chris,
Thanks very much for the fast response. I have tried installing the 11.3 beta update onto a local PC, and this does seem to resolve the issue.
    And now the inevitable question...
When is 11.3 likely to get rolled out?
No doubt this is a tricky question for you to answer - but roughly, is this days/weeks/months away. I just could do with a vague idea, as we can cope with it for a day or two, but otherwise I'm going to need to come up with an alternative. My whole business is based around online video in one form or another - and everyone with the latest update can no longer use it - hence big problem for us.
    Many Thanks
