Win 7 home premium restored to win 7 starter edition

hello there, i purchased my hp pavillion laptop in australia sometime jan 27 2010 on a jb-hifi slectronics store.
pavillion product name: pavillion dv6-1327tx
operating system (when bought) : windows 7 home basic 32 bit
two days ago i decided to restore from my image backup (from another partition of the same hard disk).
along the way of restoration,
- recovery reformats the system partiton
- copies files for restoration and at the end of copy, it says next will be software installation, pls. do not interrupt
by closing the lid or switching off the power, etc... with the continue button waiting to be press.
- after pressing the continue button, recovery manager window displays "recovery restoration incomplete, recovery manager
failed to restore the image" right away on the screen.
- waited for 10 minutes but no sign of activity
- decided to put off and on the power
- after that software installation just got started till 85% and again the same "recovery restoration incomplete, recovery manager  failed to restore the image".
- wait for another 10 minutes and no sign of activity, i press ctrl-alt-del, an option displays which i can run task manager .
- from task manager i close the recovery manager window, and the installation continues again until it finished.
- restarted automatically with messages configuring the system for the first time.
- after all the rumble finished, i just got a windows 7 STARTER EDITION. what had just happened..??
it surprised me that i backed up a windows 7 home premium 32 bit, but i got a windows 7 starter edition version after restore...?
anybody who had same experience with their comments are really appreciated

  • Win 7 Home Premium Restore error 0xe0ef0003 - Boot Mgr Missing - on Pavilion s5257c desktop

Hi.  I have a Pavilion s5257c with Windows 7 (64bit) installed.  The computer had been going to blue screen and memory dump randomly for several months.
I decided to do a system restore with previously created recovery disks.  Did not work and received the 0xe0ef0003 error.  Tried several times and always hung-up on the 3rd recovery disk.  Ordered HP recovery disks for desktop (5 disks).  Have tried recovery many times, using the HP Recovery Disks and still hangs on the 3rd disk with the same error.  Ran PC Doctor several times (provided with recover disk options), check HD OK, but has random memory fails (sometimes on high bit test, sometimes low bit test, sometimes checkered pattern, etc).  Tried formatting the HD with Kill Drive (free version) which does a simple 0 write in formatting.  Same error comes up with recovery disks after HD format (tried 2 times).  Tried a Win 7 Install ISO, downloaded from internet (several times).  Still cannot install Win 7 or restore PC.  Same error at same stage (3rd disk) of recovery.
Yesterday I found an ISO fix from the HP download center for the 0xe0ef0003 error, to fix some problems with certain PC video configurations during the system restore process.  From looks of my problem, seems I have the video config problem, but I do not know how to fix.  By the way, I can no longer boot from HD because system gives error (Boot Mgr Missing).
Any help will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!  Thanks in advance!

    HOW TO FIX!
I ordered 3 system restore cd from HP as the system restore was not working on the computer,
I installed the 3 dvd...I got the 0x03f0001 message on the black screen.... Upon bootup I got the boot mgr missing of course because the 3rd (official cd from Hp) could not fully install. I ran HP diagnostic and everything  passed. I removed the memory and installed new memory. After 4 failed installs and 2 calls to HP, I was told that the computer was defective and it needed to be sent back.
I installed a new hard-drive and ran the restore cd from HP and got the message above upon boot up after the 3rd cd installed and the system rebooted. Just a reminder only keyboard and mouse was installed and I disconnected the flash ports which were located on the front of the computer. I also change the cmos battery and reset the bios to factory defaults. Still could not get those bloody windows 7 restore (offical HP) 64 bit home to install.
So after much frustration, I installed an hp windows vista cd from hp from another hp that I own. GUESS WHAT MY NOW DEFECTIVE COMPUTER DIAGNOSED BY HP... AS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE SENT BACK IS WORKING! WITHOUT PROBLEMS.
I DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED OEM WINDOW 7 CD and UPDATED THE SYSTEM. (NO PROBLEMS)
So Its the cd's, and those that think its a cdrom drive issue, I also replaced the cd rom with an official hp cd rom drive and I still could not get those restore cd to work.
THANKS HP, I spent 6 hours to realize that the bloody cd's that I many others have are defective.....

  • Windows Vista Home Premium- Restoring Itunes Library- Not Eonugh Space on C

I have 64 bit version of Vista Home Premium. Experiencing the following error when trying to restore music library. I have a 320 GB Hard Drive and a 250 GB external HD. After about 15 GB it states in the error-"Not enough space on C:/ library could not be saved. Anyone have any solutions?

Hi, that's not a problem I've spotted before. From what I can find out it seems ubd.exe is part of Windows and responsible for handling .dll files in some fashion. You could try the Microsoft support page Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files just to confirm that your system files are in order. More likely it is a problem with the Apple library being loaded. Unless you have thoroughly uninstalled all Apple components, deleted the recommended folders, then reinstalled it may be the case that you have an outdated file from the last build of iTunes that wasn't replaced, and that the error is generated by incompatible files trying to call each other.
If you didn't do a full tear down already my advice for doing so is in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates

I have tried repairing Album Starter Edition 3.2(through Add/Remove Programs) and uninstalling Album Starter Edition 3.2 and installing a fresh download; however, the same thing continues to occur.
    Any ideas?

  • Upgraded my NB505 mini netbook from win 7 starter to 7 home premium. Then cam & mic stopped working.

I upgraded my NB505 mini netbook from win 7 starter to win 7 home premium. My cam and mic worked fine directly before the upgrade. I tried to reboot, reinstal the drivers, and redownload the app, but nothing worked. When I open the cam app, the blue cam light cuts on, but there is no feed onscreen. It will "take" pics and videos in the sense that it will show a preview of a default pic but not the one taken. These media files are unopenable, because they aren't real. please help!!!

When you upgrade properly, no drivers or utilities are disturbed. And it takes only minutes.
Upgrade to another edition of Windows 7 by using Windows Anytime Upgrade
Always tell which NB505 you have when you post here. There is a label on the bottom.

  • Win 7 Home Premium upgrade to Ultimate

If I upgrade my OS, Win 7 Home Premium to Ultimate edition, will my all previous programs remain installed?
I mean do I need to re-install VS 2010,office 2010,HP Laptop pre install programs which are there in the current Home Premium installation.
I will install it from MSDN(I have the MSDN subscription), how I will get the product key?
Also please help me if I need to keep some pre coutions while upgradation.
    Thanx in advance
    Raj

No, you will not lose any files.
Now, if you have "key problems", there are two different kinds of upgrades:  See this post of mine:
    =============================================
Thanks to a wonderfully smart, fast, and calm woman from Microsoft in Cebu for a VERY quick 5-minute and no-cost solution: I also made sure her supervisor got a compliment noted for her. She saved me tons of time and money as well as the angst from the day
    before looking for the answer.
I also had purchased a Windows 7 Ultimate Academic Upgrade CD which I applied to a Windows 7 Home Premium box so that it became an Ultimate O/S - and got a "invalid key" message. I could not find a blog post to fix this and the computer manufacturer told
me to reinstall back to Home Premium. Fat chance...
    Do the following:
    1. Call Microsoft Tech Support at 1-800-936-5700 (or local equivalent), and press 1 for Customer Support. Hours are 5am-9pm Mon-Fri, 6-3pm Sat & Sunday, Pacific Time USA.
    2. Run msdt.exe (Start, search, msdt).
    3. The support person will generate a pass key for you. Type that in the box as indicated.
    4. Download - next - Product Activation - Change product activation - Next
5 Choose "Apply this fix". Next. This will say "Resetting licensing software".
    6. You will then be asked to restart (reboot).
    7. Upon reboot, a window will pop up asking for you to put in the license key (e.g., here, from the Academic Upgrade disk). Enter it.
    8. It will accept it, register it as a valid license key, and your problem will be solved.
    ==========
Otherwise, BEFORE you buy an upgrade, know this:
    1. Academic Upgrade: Normally is to be used to upgrade a DIFFERENT operating system, such as XP or Vista to Windows 7. That is why the upgrade key will not show as valid. The folks at the university
bookstores won't know this, nor will the folks on the academic software websites online. Caveat emptor. Follow above steps from me to call MS support if you do buy this and can't get the key to work. MS was very helpful and understanding, and the "fix" above
    cost me no extra.
    2. Anytime Upgrade ($80-$130 USD online for purchase) - This is the proper item to upgrade one type of Windows 7 (such as Home Premium) to another type of Windows 7 (such as ultimate). This
is for the SAME operating system (Windows 7 variants). Save yourself the time and buy this instead. You cannot get this at a university or online academic store, and it is a retail purchase.
    ==========
Finally, here is another tool to get your licensing info (besides the already-present msdt tool:
Download and run the Microsoft "MGADIAG.exe" tool here:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/F/3/9F3DED28-A521-4352-B8A4-20368D0CC1AA/MGADiag.exe
It wouldn't hurt to email / print yourself a copy of this screenshot for future reference.

  • Need to re-install missing/corupt dll files on Win 7 Home Premium

Had a power failure from a storm while I was on vacation. When I returned, I noticed I am having problems with long boots and the system is no stable at boot-up. Win Start-up repair no help - can't fix problem. I was not able to restore to a previous good point,
as NOW there are NO restore points on my OS drive. Would like to just restore all or part of the WIN 7 Home Premium as it appears there is no MS disk to repair.  I might even have a problem with the disk hardware or boot sectors. Not sure at
this point. Any help to recover without a complete re-install would be great!

    Steve
If you feel you have ‘dll’ corruption problems, run the System File Checker (SFC) from an elevated Command Prompt, i.e. click the Windows Orb (Start) > All Programs > Accessories and right-click Command Prompt, then ‘Run as Administrator’. Type sfc
/scannow (note the space) and press Enter. This may take some time and, depending upon your installation of Windows and what is corrupted, you may have to put the DVD in the drive.
If SFC finds a problem, it will attempt to replace the file(s) from the Winsxs folder. However, if the file is not in \Winsxs or if \Winsxs is corrupted, you will be prompted to insert the Windows DVD.

  • WIN 7 Home Premium and a HP mini 210-1000!

Have mini 210-1000, refurb, came with a WIN 7 Starter, never did check and record the product key that came with...ERROR!
    1.  Went on line 12 days ago and purchased WIN 7 Home premium.  Have spend HOURS on line with MS techs trying to get it to install.  Came here before I waste any more time.
This machine has 1G RAM - CAN it install WIN 7 Home premium?
    2.  Since the last attempted install (MS using PowerISO Virtual Drive Manager (free download ver.), and which was UNsuccessful, my HP and MS now tell me that my WIN 7 Starter is 'not genuine' and they give me several options to obtain the product key.
The product key in control panel/status is not EVEN in the correct format and starts with 2 (unacceptable) zeros...
IF this machine was refurbed by HP or Contractor, does HP have a usable product key to return me to normal operation?  Am having trouble re-reaching the MS tech, I believe HE's out of ideas...
ANYone know a guru ?  Am not quite ready to invest  $$$ to fix a mess that MS started - and it's a long, long story...which takes me back to the original question:  am I asking my Notebook to install WIN 7 Home Premium when it's not able??
Thank you for any help you can provide!

  • Question on upgrading from win 7 home premium 32bit to 64 bit

So I have a Sattelite L455D.  I upgraded the ram to four gigs however I can't utilize one gig of it well because of the 32bit limitations.  The stock proccesor is capable of running 64bit.  So I want to upgrade to 64 bit.
Now based on my research the retail installation disc would've came with the option to install both versions.  However my specific laptop did not come with any back up dics or anything of that nature.  So If I was to do a factory out of the box reset would I get prompted on which version to install?  IF not is there ANY work around without having to go out and buy a retail win 7 disc?
    Thanks,
    Ed.

    Satellite L455D-S5976
    Downloads here.
You would need to install a retail copy of 64-bit Windows 7 and then install all of the drivers and utilities that make it work properly on your model. It's not a minor undertaking. And there is always the chance that you won't be able for one reason or another to get things working right.
If you install 64-bit Windows Home Premium, you are entitled to activate it for free.
32-bit Windows supports 4 of your 8 GB. Our computers here with several Office 2010 applications running rarely require more than 2 GB and never approach 3 GB.
If you run heavy-duty applications like video editing or CAD, you'll want access to all 8 GB of course.
I can help a bit more if you decide to go ahead with this project.

  • Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit error 433

Our ASA5505 works fine for a handful of VPN users, but ONE client won't work, which happens to be the only Home Premium unit.
I'm sitting at my desk, and I have a W7 Pro x64 machine working right next to a W7 Home Premium x64 machine not working.  Both were installed from the same media, which includes the same pre-configured profile.  They are both running 5.0.07.0440.  I use the same username/password.  I tried another Home Premium x64 machine and it doesn't work either.  I've tried them wired and wireless.
The logs (at level=2) are similar except the failing machines record some "retransmissions".  Ignoring that, they are in lock step until they diverge as shown below.  Maybe the "retransmission" is the actual problem, but that doesn't tell me how to fix it.  We contracted to have our ASA5505 setup, and the vendor is no longer available, so there isn't a lot of expertise around (e.g. just me, an old hardware guy).  Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Please start by deleting the .pcf file on this system or trying to configure the connection-profile again on the client.
If this does not help, try to test with local authentication for testing if possible.
Run "debug crypto condition peer <public_ip_of_VPN_client>"  and then "debug crypto isakmp 200" and "debug crypto ips 200" for working and non working device and post the results.
For your further knowledge , the error that you are getting , it has been discussed here as follows:-
    Verify Idle/Session Timeout
If the idle timeout is set to 30 minutes (default), it means that it drops the tunnel after 30 minutes of no traffic passes through it. The VPN client gets disconnected after 30 minutes regardless of the setting of idle timeout and encounters the PEER_DELETE-IKE_DELETE_UNSPECIFIED error.
Configure idle timeout and session timeout as none in order to make the tunnel always up, and so that the tunnel is never dropped even when using third party devices.

  • When using FF 5.0, rollover type ads on Facebook game Lexulous pages are 'enlarged' and block 1/3 of the game board. Using up to date versions of Win 7 Home Premium, Adobe Flash and ActiveX

When using FF 5.0, rollover type ads (i.e. ads for XBOX) on Facebook game Lexulous pages are 'enlarged' and block 1/3 of the game board. Using up to date versions of Win 7 Home Premium, Adobe Flash and ActiveX on an HP Pavillion dv7 laptop. Does NOT happen at all in MS IE 8, but occurs every time in FF 5.0.
Also, Google 'translate this page' links do not work in FF 5.0, but works in MS IE 8. All I get in FF is a blank page, time after time.

    Hi,
I am using a Nvidia 4200M adapter in my Laptop, Driver 266.96, Direct X 11
In my desktop I am using an ATI XFX 6950, latest revision drivers (I am not at home right now so I cant get that info).
The issue I did describe above, but it was a long explanation.
In some flash games the game files load initially and get as far as the "click to start" button. Then the flash area usually goes either all white or all black (usually depending on the falsh game default background color) and then it stays that color. Cant see anything after hitting start (usually most games have an intro video or animation before the game starts, but I cant see any of it.
For the very few games that do start, the flash game or application does not seem to work correctly in that when the rare game starts, it wont save any game files or save files to the pc and so if I exit the game (navigate away to another page or close browser) and then later come back, even though I click the option to save games (and ensure that the flash application slider shows it can save files and lots of space) it does not save and I have to start from the beginning all the time.
    More explanation I gave above.

  • Is Win 7 OS download available for Home Premium 00359-OEM-8992687-00010

I guess I’d need to find a correct version of my Windows 7 Home Premium OS for my HP Pavilion laptop. Is there any link available I could download it ?
I have tried official Windows 7 downloads (link below). They work fine but I am not able to activate them. I have tried both Home premium (English version) and Professional (Finnish version). The same activation problem always persists. A Finnish version would be of couse more convenient for me if available.
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river
Before any recovery attempts I sought the activation code (xxxxx-xxxxx-BC3HD-73CQT-WMF7J-3Q6C9) with this program (the sticker at the bottom of my computer was not readable any more. I really had it on bottom of my computer, not in the battery box like on newer models.
    http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder
The whole problem roots from back and fourth installation of Service pack update. 3 months I hoped the problem would automatically solve itself but it persisted. So, first I used the built in recovery possibility from the hard disk of my machine. Soon the problem (back and forth installation and cancelling of service pack update while start up of my computer) appeared again. I tried this 3 times with out any improvement. So I went to seeking for intact OS. These work but I can not activate them! Now the built in Recovery option is not usable any more.
    What shall I do ?

Yes, this worked ! Recovery worked after I turned it active
Santa Claus found me even though we have no snow in Finland this Christmas
I assume it will appear activated when I connect computer to internet.
I just had problems to find the "disk management" but I found it with the seek tool. May be my net Win 7 was some how different and I could not recognize the buttoms. Now everything is again as it were long time ago.
So far, I didn't connect that compuret to internet to make the recovery disks later. I need to go and buy, besause I lost the last ones burning the windows intallation DVDs from internet.
Next issue will be how I can avoid mistakes in Service pack installation. Yes, that should happen automatically but last attempts failed and ended up as repeated installation and cancellation.
I earlier tried to run the setup.exe files with double clicks but they did not start to run.
With activation the partition I succeeded !
    Thank you

  • System image for Win 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1

Hello, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.  Am reading conflicting information online about being able to produce a system image in Win 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 - plus am not able to find directions for this process online or
on the laptop in question.   The hard drive is failing in this laptop so I need to produce an image so that the transition when the new drive is installed will be a simple one.  If creating a system image is not possible in this version of Windows
are there other alternatives that will accomplish my goal?
    Thanks, Steve.

    Hi Steven,
If you are using a retail edition Windows, kindly follow the instructions as mentioned in the article.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-programs-system-settings-files#1TC=windows-7
For OEM system, system image backup recovery for new hard disk might cause Windows activation failure by OEM product key.
as mentioned by Rick, you might need to contact the manufacturer of your system for assistance.
