Win 7 SP1 Deployment for OEM kind of product.

HI,
Got a requirement for Deploying of Win 7 SP1 deployment on new product. Currently We planned to sysprep on refrence image and apply the image . On System boot it ask for Licence and user detail. Is this is right way to Deploy OS for product with proper
license or some other better way is available.
Thanks.

Hi,
When you run the sysprep /generalize command, the activation clock will automatically reset. You can bypass resetting the activation clock by using the SkipRearm setting in the
Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP component. This enables you to run the Sysprep command multiple times without resetting the activation clock.
What you need to do is make sure your machine is activated prior to sysprep. Then using Windows SIM add the key
Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP\SkipRearm to the Generalize phase and set the value to 1 for your unattend.xml file.
Once you have this key set, you can use sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:unattend.xml command, and at this time, the SkipRearm key will prevent the activation from being reset.

• Enterprise Deployment for Hosted Devlopment and Production

We are moving from a 11G dev environment to 11g production. We chose Installation scenario#3: Enterprise Deployment for Hosted Development and Production so we could scale out the load to multiple servers. I am at the point now where I need to load my repostory and webcat(dashboard files) and I want to make sure I understand what needs to be done.
Do I load my Repository and Webcat directory on the first node and it deploys it automatically to the 2nd node or are there other steps to do this.
Thanks!

Hi,
I thought about that possibility, but since in the Apple website I read that
"Deploy proprietary, in-house applications to authorized users in your company, the iPhone Developer Enterprise Program is available to companies with 500 or more employees and a Dun & Bradstreet number."
Since I'm freelancer,I don't have 500 employees, neither the Dun & Bradstreet number.
Can I subscribe to the program in the same way?
Also, if I subscribe the Enterprise program, I can also develop and publish "normal" apps for the iTunes, or do I need to have another subscription?
Best regards and thanks for the fast answers

• Process flow Deployment for OEM

I try to define a process module with an OEM deployment location.
It is not possible to create a new one during the creation wizard.
I'm not able to allocate later on an existing OEM location.
How cum?
OWB 9.2.
Oracle 9i

Hi Igor,
Thnx for your response.
I did look already to viewlet but this is the way to schedule jobs to run mappings which are PL/SQL packages.
What i try to do is defining in the OWB tool a process flow and a deployment location for this process flow and there i can't choose to define a location of the OEM type.
I would expect that OWB generates specific code or package for this process flow that i can scheduled using OEM and the oem template.
I will check the things you mentioned maybe they are related but i would be surprised. I would not expect that OWB tool is so depended of the deployment environment.

• MBAM 2.0 SP1 Deployment for Windows 8.1 Non TPM machine

Hi ,
how can I use MBAM (all features of MBAM 2.0 SP1) for Windows 8.1 Non TPM Machines ?
Can anyone share the step by step Deployment guide as i am new to MDOP and i have to use MBAM for Windows 8.1 Non TPM machines...
Shailendra Dev

Are you using the Password protector then or are you putting the keys on a USB stick? None of these scenarios are supported by MBAM but you can use at least BitLocker with the password protector to enable BitLocker and get the BitLocker status reported back
to MBAM. However, the other benefits of using MBAM will not be available, such as recovering the keys from the central location using the help desk or self service portal, if needed.
Is there a reason why you do not use BitLocker with TPM enabled machines? All corporate range of Machines have had TPM chips for many many years.

• VMS for OEM : Production Order

Hi All,
VMS has all the features required for Automobile Importers. In the 'Make to Stock - Scenario ' , we can create vehicle , purhcase order and get vehicle from the Vendor . But implementing VMS for OEM is not that simple.
Could any VMS expert advise the best solution for the given below scenario.
Client : An Automobile manufacturer
Scenario: "Make to stock" : Manufactured in the Production Centre of the same company ( kindly note vehicle it is not purchased from vendor ).
I need to create Production order to manufacture a vehicle .
The solution I found here is
a) Create Vehicle
2) Create Purchase Order
3) Create a resevation Sales Order
4) Run MRP , get planned Order
5) Planned Order converted to Production Order.
Please advise anyone has better approach.
Thanks and Regards
Tom Cruiser

Tom,
it's easy to implement a new ordering system based on SAP VMS . I've seen some customers who did that .... and all had different approaches. Some were complex, some were suprisingly easy.
It depends .... it really depends on the complete scenario at the customer. Is the customer going to run the production process in the same SAP box? Or is production going to be in searate systems and the VMS is used to "just" handle all vehicles as a central instance?
Your described process is one way, esp. if all is in one box.
An other way is to send vehicle details to the (e.g. model-based selected) production system, and manage the purchase (doc flow) when the vehicle is finished and being moved out of production stock.
Other experiences?
Tell us!

• Questions for the wiseman before production deployment

Hi, I have a number of questions I would like to ask before deploying the webelements into a production environment. who do I contact to answer my questions and concerns? Thanks.

hey Michele, here's the answers to your questions..
1. not sure what you mean by this but pass through html is a supported method and feature in xi & xir2. webelements is a function library that uses this method. rather than having everyone create their own code each time for pass through html components, we've institutionalized the code in a custom function library.
2. there is support via Global Services should you need help with a project / implimentation. contact your sales rep should you wish to go the Global Services route. there is no support via Customer Assurance as this is considered custom code...i.e. same as if you were using the sdk to do some custom work. there is this forum and hopefully it will ramp up so that more people use it.
3. not at this point. most of the samples though have instructions on them, plus the Users Guide is pretty big and there's also the video of David Taylor's presentation at http://diamond.businessobjects.com/node/1575
4. this tool does not add the ability to write to the database...that ability has been around since v9 of crystal. this tool adds the ability to create an easy interface to do this which was lacking with regular prompt methods.
5. pass through html must be activated on the crystal reports web server...see the user guide for more info.
6. these controls simply append text to a report viewer...so you are going to see no more performance lag on a report than you would if you put a bunch of text formulae on a report.
7. see 2. it would be the same if you're building a custom app...global services support, forums, but no customer assurance support.
8. one could really write their own tool to do this as pass through html is the method that makes this possible. clients have been writing their own controls since v9 of crystal. webelements is simply a larger library wherein the controls all act in conjunction with opendocument syntax and the prompting method in crystal.
9. this comes from business objects.

• Can i use Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM for bootcamp?

Someone suggested to use
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM for bootcamp.
Can i use Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM to use in bootcamp to install windows 7 on my mac book pro 13 inch?
thank you.
PS: i bought my macbook pro 3 weeks ago.
Also, is there any other windows 7 installation CD that is cheaper?
thank you.

Yes.
OEM just means that the Windows OS is dedicated to that computer only. If you sell, replace or throw away the computer you use it on, the Windows CD/DVD goes along with it. (According to the Licensing dialog)
Just do a Yahoo/Google search for prices is the only way to find it cheaper. Or keep an eye on your favorite web store for sales.
If you are in college and have an .edu e-mail account thru the college then Microsoft has it for about $30 US. And other deals also.

• Deployment of OEM media on New PCs NO KEY ON PC

All,
We have been for many years now successfully deploying Windows XP, Vista, and 7 using the OEM media supplied by Dell and the Key on the label of each PC. Basically, we accept new PCs from Dell and then use MDT to install to our spec the OS and software
needed for deployment. The OS is always the OS that came native to the PC in question. With Win 7 we found that placing the product key in the script seems to work for installation but does't seem to work for activation. By this I mean we
usually have to re-enter the key at the time of activation and all goes well.
Enter MS license changes. Apparently MS is not providing the Key sticker to OEMs any more and therefore the newest Dell PCs we receive do not have a license key for Windows 7. Without a key we're dead in the water.
There has to be away around this problem without having to by additional Volume or Retail copies of the OS. Anyone have any ideas?

The definitive guide:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/D/4/3D42BDC2-6725-4B29-B75A-A5B04179958B/Reimaging.pdf
Any questions and/or clarifications should be sent to Microsoft, this is not the correct forum for licensing questions.
Rob - Verify if Magic Jelly Bean (or other powershell script) can programmatically extract the OEM Product Key(s).
Keith Garner - Principal Consultant [owner] -
http://DeploymentLive.com
Keith,
The key extracted but Jelly Bean and other tools on downgraded Windows 7 PCs without a sticker on the box can not be used to activate the system after re-installation. It doesn't work unless you use the
same method used by the PC manufacture to install and activate the OS. In other words, you can use the OEM CD to re-install the Windows
7 OS on the PC in question and not need to activate the software because installing directly from the OEM CD uses a self activating method. Copying that OEM media into MDT does not employ the same
self activating method and the key used for self activation can not be used to activate in the normal way.
Thanks,
Rob

How does this system look?
Any Suggestions
This system will be used for Standard Definition editing with the move to HD early next year.
Is the GTX580 w/ 3GB of memory a good choice?
This will be used for commercial production. It is replacing an Avid Mediacomposer/Adobe Premiere 7 system.
Output will primarily be via firewire to Sony DSR decks.

While there are may recommendations that can be done. There is no one "best" solution. It all depends on budget, and needs. I can only tell you why I chose certain components.
I took the Asus Rampage III for several reasons. I had to have sufficient PCIe slots of the appropriate lanes and physical spacing between them to accommodate 4 cards (One x16, one x8, and two x4). You have to account for the fact that the x16 GTX580 graphics card is double wide. In some cases, it's triple wide, but not the PNY GTX580 water cooled I chose. Another reason I chose it was because of it's ability to overclock. While most motherboards these days can overclock, the Rampage series has more options to fine tune. CPU wise, I'm getting a 990x CPU, because of it's unlocked multiplier, along with a closed-loop Anteck Kuhler 920 water cooling system. This CPU along with the Rampage III, will provide me with a wider spectrum of choices to achieve the fastest stable system I can get. In general, Asus brand has a good reputation, and the Rampage III has been around for some time and has proven itself to a stable and a good performer.
Why overclock? I don't plan to break any speed limits. Nor do I plan to push the limits of stability either. But there is a middle ground that can allow me to get faster computing, while keeping stability, in a well cooled environment. For me stability is very important. And I know it's possible to have a stable overclocked system that can last for years. Why overclock at all? Productivity! While a 990x 3.4GHz is very fast; 4.0 or 4.2GHz is faster. Most functionalities of an editing workstation (other then MPE) is CPU cenric. And while most modern apps are multithreaded, not all are optimized to use multicore. So the raw speed of a single core is still advantageous. Imagine 6 cores running faster on optimized applications like CS5.5.
If you intend to run lots of disks, a RAID card is highly recommended. Especially if your using a parity RAID like level 5. LSI makes good controllers. Areca also makes good controlers. The difference with LSI and Areca, and why a lot of people here choose Areca over other brands, is because of RAID3. RAID3 works beautifully in single user mode with very large files. Perfect for video editing. RAID5 will certainly work, but is better geared towards multiple users accessing large quantities of small data. Also, RAID5 from a motherboard's on-board RAID controller has CPU overhead. Having a card will remove that overhead. And RAID cards are more efficient then any on-board controllers. Finally, it helps to get a controller with more cache. While 512MB is good, more is better.

• Adding Dot Net 4 msu to Win 7 deployment

Immediately after win 7 deploys, I have an application I wrote in dot net that needs to run (it will handle installing all the required software for that machine). It requires .Net 4
So I downloaded dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe and expanded the files. Inside there are a bunch of .MSU files so I assume I can add these into the OS deployment by attaching them to the unttend.xml file.
I imported the MSU files into the Workbench Packages folder. The source files are on some random share and now there are .cab files in the deployment share under packages.
From the OS deployment task sequence I chose to edit the xml in the WSIM. I choose insert package and selected the 6.1 64bit .cab file. It shows up under updates in the answer file list. I notice that the action is Install and the Path
is f:\OSDeployment\Packages\Update\.....
When the OS deployment runs, it fails. When I removed this package, it works again. The errors are cryptic at best but I THINK it's saying it can't find the files.
1. Could that be becuase the f:\.... path variable is junk during deployment? f doesn't exist so maybe I need to replace that with a UNC path?
2. The source files I extracted at the beginning of this process don't look like they were all moved to the packages folder... is that right? Should they be in a specific place?
3. ?

It's not really a task sequence line as much as adding an application in the deployment workbench. There is always a "install applications" line in the default task sequence but generally you don't actually have anything to install.
Frankly it's better just to have .Net framework loaded as part of the image (fat image where the 'fat' are MS core components like this rather than something really ugly like MS Office)

• SQL 2012 Enterprise SP1 installation for SCCM 2012 R2

I am just starting to install SQL 2012 with SP1 Enterprise for SCCM 2012 R2.
Does anyone have a step by step guide for this install please
I am planning to install SQL 2012 with SP1 Enterprise as a physical install which I intend to geo cluster later on
Also I am thinking of installing WSUS on a separate server and get my SCCM 2012 servers (1 primary and 3 secondary) to use this server - would appreciate some help on how this can be setup as well

That doesn't make sense to me. Both versions are fully supported on virtual and physical platforms.
Also, I'm with Garth - local SQL all the way.
Here are my thoughts on the subject
http://www.gerryhampsoncm.blogspot.ie/2013/10/configmgr-sql-some-tips.html
ConfigMgr is not a real-time product like Exchange, for example. A certain amount of downtime can be tolerated. I would spend more time implementing a robust backup solution, rather than trying to implement high availability.
You should be able to recover a ConfigMgr site from SQL backup in a couple of hours.

• RAC environment setup for OEM Grid Control

Hi All,
One of my customer is setting up RAC environment for OEM Grid Control, he has following questions.
1) Can I use the DirectNFS client on each RAC node to mount SAN storage created with an OCFS2 filesystem?
2) Can I use the DirectNSF client to mount the shared filesystem loader directory?
3) Should I be using DirectNFS for the shared filesystem loader at all? Or should I just use a normal Linux NFS mount?
4) Is OCFS2 preferred over NFS for the shared filesystem loader?
Any information is highly appriciated.
Thank you,
Bhavin
