Win 7 x64 + iTunes 9  VoiceOver kit won't install

I have iTunes9, upgraded from iTunes8. When installing iTunes8 I have changed default location from Program Files(x86) to Program Files - based on the warnings about iTunes8 and Win7 I found on the internet. This version worked flawlessly. So the upgrade automatically went to the same folder for 64bit applications which iTunes9 claims to be, although it, unfortunately, isn't.
The problem is when installing VoiceOver Kit - it downloads within iTunes, Windows pops up UAC windows asking for permission which is then granted and boom - nothing happens. The tickmark next to do VoiceOver is disabled again. When trying to repeat, installation starts, this time without downloading but the result is the same or eventually iTunes crashes. After restart and selecting VoiceOver iTunes starts downloading VoiceOver kit again.
Is there a workaround? Is it possible to install VoiceOver manually? Why it is not included in the iTunes download package in the first place? (ok, this last one is rather rhetorical). And at last - do you think that uninstalling iTunes and installing it again to the default folder for 32 bit applications would help?
Thank you!

When do I learn to follow instructions properly? I have uninstalled everything from Apple, restarted and then reinstalled iTunes, this time heeding to the last sentence of your post: "This applies even if you're already logged into an administrator account." - and voila - VoiceOver installed smoothly this time. I am syncing/charging my iPod now but I am sure it will work.
Running as administrator has been mentioned in some other issues previously, but I always assumed that since I am logged into administrator account, what difference does it make. Heavens it does! (I originally wrote h-ell it does, but Apple banned that word from its forums. I am not a native speaker and I know it is not a nice place to be in, but I didn't know it is such a bad word either.)
Thanks for the hint! And a lesson
PS: The moment Apple will finally start support my language (Slovak) in its products - and I don't mean full localization, just the ability to write and to transfer such files - I am switching, I swear. They are moving on the track, release after release, but they are just not there yet.

  • Voice over kit won't install

I have tried multiple times to get this thing to download the kit and it won't. I turned off my anti virus and still nothing keeps giving me a message with a unknown error (1618). Anyone know how to fix this?

I got this problem too, no way to install voiceover kit by itunes.
The solution was download manually the ipodvoiceover.dll and put it in root directory of itunes c:/program files/itunes/

  • Voiceover kit will not install 1603 error win8

Voiceoverkit will not install. Error code 1603. Running Win8. iTunes 11.0.5.5

    Hello tzachman,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you are getting an error message when trying to get the Voiceover kit to install.
I found an article that seems to address this error code specifically named iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error1603
    Error 1603
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. Also, discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps under Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user. If the issue remains, Eliminate third-party security software conflicts
Here is the troubleshooting from the 1604 section that it references:
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Voiceover kit refuses to install with an error 1701

Updated recently to Mavericks 10.9 and Itunes 11.1.2. I bought a new iPod Shuffle (4th Gen) and the first sync, the voiceover kit failled. I tried restoring the iPod several times; I tried getting rid of the existing VoiceOver file in the Library. The new Voiceover kit still refuses to install with an error 1701.
It is hard to understand why itunes and mavericks are not comptatible with the ipod shuffle ...

this is what i said to them
okay, so im pretty sure that apple is aware of this issue by now.
The voiceover kit isnt downloading withint itunes on mountain lion or on mavericks it returns a 1701 error like it carnt find the server to download it from.
SERIOUSLY sort it out,and fast, this is just slack.
I purposefully bought this new shuffle over my last purely for this feature and guess what, straight out of the box it doesnt work...

  • ITunes 8.1.1 won't install

Okay I just downloaded iTunes 8.1.1 on my Windows PC and it won't install the update.
Here's what happens I go through the steps of installing the update -- the welcome screen provides info on what iTunes helps you do (work with iPod, iPhone, Apple TV etc and burning and importing audio CDs, plus buying songs from iTunes and video) then asks you to press next, next screen asks if you accept license agreement, select yes and click next. Next screen asks what language you want iTunes installed in (English US) and what location for me its C/Program Files/iTunes
Then press next and on the next screen it will install -- next screen shows up and then jumps directly to the iTunes has installed screen without doing so.
    "Says iTunes Installer Completed"
"The installer encounted errors before iTunes could be configured.
Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time please return to the installer again. Click Finish to exit installer."
I have tried using both Apple Software Update which tells me iTunes + QuickTime could not be verified when the installation error occurs and the manual installation by downloading the file and launching it. Any ideas on
    what's causing this?

Lots of times this is due to QuickTime not installing properly. iTunes depends on QT to play audio & video.
Try installing QT standalone, first. Make sure you pick the option withOUT itunes.http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Choose SAVE, not run. Double-click the saved exe file to start the install.
If QT installs OK, and you can get it to open and run, then try the itunes install again.
Use this link and again, choose SAVE, not run.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you get errors during the QT install, post back.

  • Itunes 8.0.1 won't install to the correct destination folder

After installing Itunes to the hard drive (I've tried this on both my laptop's hard drive as well as an external hard drive), the destination folder points to the CD Rom drive and won't let you change it.
Help?! I've tried installing three different times, both from the upgrade as well as from the direct website.

I've done that, and it still won't save to teh correct file. It disregards where I want the file saved, and saves it to the E drive, which is my cd rom drive. Then, of course, it won't save to the CD rom drive, becuase there's no memory there.

  • ITunes 7.2.0 won't install

What a pain! While trying to set up my new iPod nano, I discovered that BOTH my operating system AND my iTunes needed to be updated.
So I updated to MAC OS 10.3.9 (and also updated all other iPod software).
But ... when I open iTunes 7.0.2 it says "cannot be installed on this computer." What's the problem? Why can't I install iTunes?
    Thank you!!

    Dear Stevenb,
Thanks! I have good news and bad news ....
The good news is that I did what you said and was able to successfully install itunes 7.0.
    Thank you very much!!
But ... most of my iTunes music library seems to have vanished (along with the iTunes icon on the menu bar).
So I have two more questions for you:
    1) Where did the other 90% of my music go? Only 10% seems to have survived the changeover. Can I get it back?
    2) How can I get the iTunes icon back on my desktop? (I do have the iTunes 7.0.2 "device" icon ... but not the CD/Musical Note symbol that gets you into the iTunes store.)
I appreciate your help! Thanks again,
    Patience

    Hello D.Ferrell,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • ITunes 8.0.2 won't install

I haven't been able to install I-Tunes 8.0.1 or 8.0.2. I have Windows XP. I get the message: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the set up did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I had similar problems with certain I-Tunes 7 upgrades, but before, if I waited awhile, the new upgrade finally installed (as if the Apple people fixed some bug or other). This time, no luck. Would appreciate advice.
    Thanks!

    Hello Everyone,
I had the exact same issue and error messages - been trying to update iTunes for a long time (I think one of the XP updates messed up my system). Anyway, Windows uninstall didn't work, but the utility listed here did - and now I have 8.0.2 which was key since my new iPod touch for X-Mass was not working. I spent hours looking through Apple's support pages for this info on the 25th with no luck. To be fair, they did mention the same utility (without clear guidance though), but when you go to the Windows support page it says watch out for this utility. So I held back. Finding this forum today though, and seeing the past thread, and DuffyDave's success, I decided to give it a try. Thanks to everyone on this page for the fastest fix to a computer problem in ages Happy holidays!

  • ITunes 10.6.3 won't install, any help?

I was not able to update iTunes on my computer, running Vista 32 Bit.I followed the instructions to uninstall several programs. But now I can't install iTunes. Any ideas?

    IE and Chrome
I'd try Firefox ... it handles network connections a little differently from Chrome, IE or Safari, so in cases where there's an issue with IE or Chrome, Firefox can sometimes get a working installer (and vice versa, though IE working when Firefox doesn't in this sort of context is a bit rarer overall than Firefox working when IE doesn't).
If still no joy with Firefox, I'd try the download of the installer to a different PC.
