Win 8.1 fails to wake from sleeping probook 4340s

Dear HP forum,
i have hp probook 4340s and i recently installed windows 8.1 on samsung EVO SSD.
Recently i have noticed, that my PC have problem with sleeping, i can hibernte with no problem.
My PC can sleep, but when i try to wake it up i see black screen for few seconds, and then my PC restarts and boot again.
BSOD shows that memory has been dump to c:\windows\memory.dmp which is in my case about 800 MB and contains some binary data.
I have tried installing various versions of drivers for graphics card and other suff, but nth works.
Event log shows nothing but "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
Could you please help me to solve this problem ? Would i ever sleep again ? :}

This error message appears because of some not compatible drivers and tools which are already preinstalled on Windows 8 system.

+What important is to remove the internet connection.+
+Only use to download 8.1 then disconnect (also Lan cable)+
+After starting Win 8.1 for the first time do not connect to the internet.+
+On another pc download first the drivers for 8.1 audio,realtek wlan and bluetooth and display driver.+
+Install and restart after this when de system is stable you can connect to internet and download the windows updates.+

Macbook occasionally fails to wake from sleep

i have a new macbook (purchsed in july) which occasionally (every 1-2 weeks) fails to wake from sleep. it either hangs on the blue screen which first comes up when you switch it on, or on the black screen which normally follows shortly afterwards.
i regularly use it "closed", i.e., with an external screen and keyboard, but the problem seems also to happen occasionally when i switch it on without these peripherals.
any ideas?
i've also had dvd player crash once. it was in full screen mode, and i couldn't switch to any other applications or force quit dvd player, so again i had to cut power.

Having similar issues...not that it happens everyday ...it's very infrequent..but yeah im in the same boat..
As far as the computer being hot...
Go to :
System Preference--->Energy Savings
From there you should have the boxed check both on Battery power and AC Cord to put the Hard drive to sleep when possible..
Once i did this it never happened again(the closing of the lid and still running)

MacPro6,1 - Failing to wake from 'sleep'

I have a MacPro6,1 which keeps failing to wake from 'sleep' is there a solution to stop this or is it a fault? considering I've only had it a few months i'm not impressed!

Open the Console app and see if you can find log errors at the time you try to wake the Mac.

T410 fails to wake from sleep with 2nd Hard drive installed?

Ever since I've installed a second hard drive in my T410, a Hitachi 250GB drive, my machine fails to wake from sleep (sometimes)... Then I have to do a hard reset.
I had the same problem without the 2nd drive when I tried to use the HD Password in the BIOS and found out that it was something to do with the Crucial M4 drive I'm using. But this same problem is now happening ever since using the 2nd drive slot.
Any ideas? I really like the extra storage space and don't want to remove it based on this problem.

Well it seems the problem was caused by the firmware version for the SSD I've installed.
The problem was resolved by updating the Crucial M4 SSD with the latest firmware.....
......and It solved the HD1 password issue too.

Mac Pro Failed to wake from sleep

Hello All,
I've had my Mac Pro since Aug. 2007. Never had any problems of any kind until this morning.
To wake from sleep (as I always do): depressed arrow key (10:43 AM). There was a delay - then the spinning beach ball for about 2 min. I did a hard shutdown, waited a bit, then restarted at 10:52 AM. Boot up was (as always) quick.
I logged into my (usual) non-admin account and observed:
When all start up items were loaded: Finder windows appeared approximately as follows:
1. A window showing the (not sure of proper term) "internal folders" of main boot up volume.
2. A window showing the internal folders stored on my mirrored RAID back up disk(s)
3. A window showing the internal folders of my bootable back up.
4. A window showing all 3 disk icons[ Main boot, Bootable backup and the RAID].
I closed all of these windows. [Didn't think too much about it but it's not normal to have these widows appear] SO -

Then I logged out and logged into my admin account to check the system log with console.
It showed an event from last night which I could not interpret but it did not appear to reveal serious problems (something about not being able to make network connection).
But - the second item on the System Log showed the "wake from sleep" sequence (at 10:43 AM).
I'm going to post the entire wake from sleep log below but first I'll state what was obvious to me:
Startup of CPU #1, #2 and #3 appear first - there is NO #4 CPU!
The log for the manual startup at 10:52 showed some apparent problems as I note below.
Next: Once logged in as admin - I launched Activity Monitor just to assure myself that all four CPUs were at least registering - and they were / are.
Hoping someone here can more thoroughly analyze this log report and give me an idea of the cause of the failure to waken.
Naturally, I won't want to put the Mac Pro to sleep again until I'm sure this isn't a "permanent" problem requiring further action (including service, of course).
Also noticed a statement about some app not having correct permissions (apparently at the System level) and something about removing several orphaned files. There's a warning about CarbonCopyCloner scheduled tasks as well. But there my understanding ends.

First - thank you very much for taking time to offer thorough and informed advice.
However - as indicated in my last post, I have performed the first (and very basic) "test" - I checked to see if Xgrid was included in my network prefs and found that it was. I unchecked it because I don't have the setup to make use of processor resources on the other Mac I have in my home network. (And that other Mac is an old G4 eMac - not much help anyway!)
More specifically: it's apparent that I was using Xgrid "inappropriately" so I think the System Log really indicates that no connection can be found -because there isn't one!
I too still wonder about the "missing CPU 4" but, overall, I see no other indications that there's a problem. Activity Monitor shows all four CPU cores and they're all showing activity. I have not seen (or noticed) this in prior System Log reports so, if I see this again - I'll renew efforts to find it's significance and take appropriate action.
I then put my Mac Pro to sleep, waited a bit, then depressed an arrow key: the machine woke from sleep normally. This "solves" the immediate problem of abnormal wakening - at least I'm satisfied that it does and will continue monitoring for any similar "misbehaviors."
Power Management: I have purposely avoided doing anything with Power Management once I had it set to my liking. That is, I set the screen to sleep in 1 hour, I set the hard drive to "never" (sleep) and only use the Sleep menu command to put the Mac Pro to sleep. My dictum is to "not fix what isn't proved to be broken." Again - if I continue to have problems or new problems crop up, I will then go ahead and start making changes such as those you mention. (Like deleting com.apple.PowerManagemetn.plist)
Next: I did already run permissions repair and may do so again anytime I see problems which could be connected to permissions. Since I have "taken Xgrid" out of the picture, I don't think this particular permissions issue is going to be a problem under my current set up.
CarbonCopyCloner: Here we have a bit of a conundrum. I need! to keep CCC "available" to run scheduled back up tasks. I was given (a very expensive) 1TB wireless backup drive for Xmas and - through long trial and error - found that CCC is the most appropriate back up application for that drive.
For now: I consider that the problem is a bug in CCC and will contact Mr. Bombich about this.
Again: I do appreciate your pointing out this and the other things. You have helped me think through what could have been a very complex process in trouble shooting.
I think that my issue turned out to be simple: I may have accidentally touched the wrong key or key combination when I moved to wake the Mac Pro from sleep. I think that Xgrid was a problem but that now seems to be eliminated. The Mac Pro is now waking normally - which was my original objective.
Oh, and just to be clear: I forgot to mention above that I did re-examine the System Log and there are now no signs of the items in the log I posted originally here.

Computer won't start & fails to wake from sleep

First post -- I have a 2009 HP Pavilion Elite w/Windows7. Good box & OS, never a problem until now. Started about a month ago w/the box not waking up from "sleep" -- no response (power light turned from amber to blue as usual but nothing else happens). Had to turn it off, but then won't come back on! After 10-15 minutes of repeated power-on button presses, it starts back up. Removing/reinserting the power cord during trys doesn't help. Occasionally it starts right up from sleep, but usually has this problem. Windows7 is up-to-date and no viruses or malware detected. HP or Microsoft diagnostics show no issues.
I opened the box to clean out dust -- also took off the CPU heatsink (really dusty) & cleaned it too. Fans rotate easily & aren't an issue.
So now I have "sleep mode" turned off, but occasionly the box has to be turned off & afraid it won't come back on. I've seen some of the HP videos & will try shorting the two start-up pegs on the MBoard, but the power-switch was hardly ever used & I seriously doubt that's the problem -- it wouldn't have anything to do w/the sleep-wakeup problem. Any suggestions?

I understand that your desktop computer is not able to wake from sleep mode, or power on intermittently. I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To enable your system to successfully wake from sleep mode, I recommend following the steps in this document on Troubleshooting sleep and hibernate issues (Windows 7).
Additionally, I also recommend following the steps below to restore the power settings on your computer:
Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Command Prompt"
Step 3. Right-click Command Prompt
Step 4. Click Run as administrator
Step 5. At the command prompt, type powercfg /restoredefaultschemes and press Enter

IMac occasionally fails to wake from sleep mode

This is a transient problem. Happens every 2-3 days that computer fails to wake up from sleep mode. Space bar doesn't do anything and I finally have to unplug it and reboot. I have a late 2008 iMac and am running Lion. It has started doing this after I installed Lion but doesn't seem to be related.

It's tough to troubleshoot intermittent problems. You can try by restarting in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt.

MacBookPro running 10.8.5 fails to wake from sleep or kp???

Folks:
I installed ML 10.8.5 a couple weeks ago in a separate partition from SL 10.6.8, and more or less things have been OK. Today, however I'm wondering if 10.8.5 has a "Rip van Winkle" type "glitch" that causes problems with the unit waking from sleep? Or perhaps there is something else causing a "crash"? On two different occasions today when I tried to use the computer after it had been asleep for awhile the unit would not respond. I would then tap on the space bar or click the mouse and nothing would happen. Checking the power light showed the computer was "on." Each time I had to hit the power button, the first time just tapping the power button revived and launched the desktop; the second time I had to hold the power button for perhaps 30 to 45 seconds before the computer light went off, and then launched the desktop . . . showing a faded desktop picture with the row of white dots across the bottom as when re-launching from a battery recalibration . . . . That made me think there had been a "glitch" or kernel episode . . . . I checked the Console log, the 5:30pm times are the second time this issue happened, checking the sleep indicator light before reviving to write this post the sleep/power light was not "breathing" but was steady. Any thoughts appreciated, thanks.

Well, the problem seemed to grow, as it moved over and infected my 10.6.8 partition, which led me to think about possible hardware issue; so I spent the night wondering what the heck I had done to create the problem. There are a number of possible scenarios when setting up "dual boot" situation . . . but, then I remembered that I have been trying to get an rEFInd CD to boot up so that I could test it out . . . and it hasn't been working; holding the C key down just got me to a black screen with a flashing prompt. I considered that that might have "re-set" something, so this morning I booted a known good Linux Mint DVD . . . using the C key . . . and I launched FF and it was fine, and then I "suspended" the system . . . and the "breathing" sleep light came on--so I figured it wasn't a hardware issue. So, I restarted into ML . . . earlier this morning had the same "revive from drained battery line of white lights" . . . but after booting the LM disk held the option key, selected ML . . . seems to boot more slowly than SL, but it gave me a desktop . . . and I put it to sleep . . . a few minutes later, clicked the mouse and I'm posting this now. So, as usual, "pilot error" was involved, it's just for the pilot, when the error happens is the question . . . . I re-traced my steps and tried to find the logical problem . . . seems to have worked.

OS X failing to wake from sleep

This is new behavior for me since upgrading to 10.6.3:
*When I close the lid to my MacBook Pro* it goes to sleep (breathing light and everything), but leaving it in that state, such as overnight, the "breathing" turns to a steady on -- and *when I open the lid*, the light goes out, the keyboard indicators (e.g. Caps Lock) still toggle, but *the machine won't wake*. Closing the lid turns the status light back on, though just not breathing.
The only recourse is to hard reset the device by holding down the power key.
Prior to this update, I've never had this problem.
I've tried Command-Option-P-R and that doesn't seem to help or hurt.
I've tried running Onyx to aggressively clean the cruft out of the system, and that too doesn't seem to help or hurt.
Another interesting data point is that during casual usage of the machine, if I open/close the lid, it does wake. I suspect the problem may happen when the lid is closed for the power management duration (which I have set to 3hrs or so). It's long period of time with the lid closed that I experience the problem.
One other data point is that I have a TimeMachine volume directly mounted by USB to the sleeping machine. I'm trying to convince myself that when I don't do that, I don't have this problem.
When the machine remains in the sleep state after opening the lid, it does not seem to respond to network traffic. I can't SSH into it for a clean shutdown, and I can't Screen Share with it to see what it's doing.
Is anyone else having this problem, or more importantly does anyone know what's causing it or how to fix it.
The only "solutions" that I've found on the Internet are to coerce the machine into not falling asleep in the first place, or to manually shut it down first. I'm wanting to resolve the issue, not work around it.

I'm having the same problem with my MacBook Pro connected to a Microsoft Keyboard and external monitor. I noticed that this problem got much worse after the last security update (but that might have been coincidental). Now every time I leave the computer in sleep mode overnight, when I touch the mouse in the morning, the display wakes up and it freezes. I have to do a hard reboot to get it working again.
The hard drive appears to be OK according to Disk Utility (though I don't know how much longer that will last with hard booting the system after a freeze.
When I open the laptop, the caps lock key will toggle the light, but that's the only response from its keyboard I can get.

My 13" 2009 MBP sometimes fails to wake from sleep. Is this 10.6.8?!

I recently had to do a clean wipe and reinstall of my SL a couple days ago. The updater immediately did the combo update to 10.6.8. Now when I put the computer to sleep it has trouble waking up. The indicator light stays on at full brightness when I open the lid. It goes off when I close the lid. The battery indicator indicates a full charge (this also seems to happen when it is sleeping plugged in, but I can't verify that 100%) When I hold the power key down to do a hard reboot it loads grey screen of deep sleep. Once it successfully restored from deep sleep although why it would need to go to deep sleep if it is plugged in and fully charged I don't know. The second time it happened the deep sleep restored stalled but then the computer booted normally after a hard restart.
This all seems really weird to me. Any thoughts/suggestions? Unfortunately I just moved to an area with no Apple store and I can't afford to be without a computer for the next week until the rest of my stuff, including my Mac mini, gets here. Otherwise I would just backup it up and send it in.

Hi Daniel, I haven't had any significant sleep problems with my own MBP, but in general with other models sleep problems often come down to:
1) third party hardware 'add ons" (USB, FW, BlueTooth or ethernet) that "poll" the computer when it is either going to sleep or waking up. Some USB hubs and USB based ADSL modems were particularly notorious for this a little while back, but other devices, even memory sticks, have been known to produce such issues too. So if you have anything else connected see if the problems persists when it has been removed.
2) Third party "background" software, especially drivers associated with USB and bluetooth devices. Some earlier Logitech keyboard and mouse software could do this, for example.
3) Some specific other software that loads at startup - virus checkers, things like iStat, HD integrity checkers etc.
Remove all externals and then start up in "Safe Mode" (to disable log-in items etc - see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392 for more info), and see if the problem persists.
If it still occurs you may have a problem with a third party 'haxy" of some kind which has actually modified your system files.

IMac fails to wake from sleep

This is an ongoing problem that has been addressed by Apple Care and a Mac Shop. The hard drive, Logic Board, Ram, and Super Drive have all been replaced.
The Console gives a repeating message of:

An update:
The iMac just froze while the screensaver (album in iPhoto) was running. I had to force a shut-down with the power button.

Looking for answers - at wit's end (a "wake from sleep" nightmare)

I've got a 20" 2.1Ghz iMac G5 w/ integrated iSight camera. I bought this computer in January right after the Intel announcement, and got a great deal on it - at least for the first 4 months I owned it. After having the fans rev up for about a day, the unit completely died. I took it in to a local authorized service center, where they worked on it for 3 (THREE) months. I was told they replaced the main power board twice, as well as the logic board, then finally declared it "better".
Since getting the computer back, I've completely wiped it clean, reinstalled the original operating system, and let System Update do its magic. I'm currently running on 10.4.7...
...and without fail, the machine fails to wake from sleep. After about a minute, the fans rev up, but nothing happens. I have to pull the power cable to get it off, then when I restart it, I get the "computer is set to the wrong time and date" message, and the iMac thinks it's 1999.
There is no 3rd-party memory in the machine - it's stock.
There is nothing other than a Mighty Mouse plugged in.
I'm using the BlueTooth keyboard.
NO applications have been installed.
This is my 12th or 13th Mac, and I've never, ever had any problems remotely this bad. If anyone can shed light on this subject, I would appreciate it. At this point, I just want to send the beast back!!

Hi Dave, welcome to discussions. I think it's time for you to call Apple and tell them your problem, then ask them nicely to replace your machine with a new one. You have certainly had enough repairs to warrant it, so I would be polite but firm; "please replace my computer".

Wakes from sleep when lid closed

i usually put my macbook to sleep by closing it. recently, it sleeps then a second later i hear the noise that it's waking. so while the computer is closed, the apple icon is lit as it's turned back on. ideas?

You might try the following procedure. I did it last night and I think it may have corrected the sleeping problem although at this moment I can't say for sure. A word of warning IF you do this procedure. It takes SEVERAL seconds and maybe even a minute to reboot after you do this 4-finger wave before the computer boots back up. A LONG time looking at a blue screen while I held my breath. This NVRAM procedure is buried toward the bottom in the link below. Since I read somewhere to do this procedure, I didn't get a chance to run through all the procedures listed in the link.
Reset NVRAM [Useful for: does not properly go to sleep; wakes from sleep while lid is closed; fails to wake from sleep]
A number of users report that resetting NVRAM resolves wake-from-sleep issues. In order to perform this process, shut down your Mac, then start it back up while immediately holding the following keys: Command, Option, P and R. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time

Compter won't wake from sleep mode

My Pavilion 17 notebook computer, purchased in Oct. '13, won't wake from sleep mode; I must shut down and reboot each time. I know this is not due to Windows 8, as I have another Win 8 computer that works normally.

I've done some more experimentation and found a workaround. I had Sleep and the Screensaver both set to Never, and by activating the Screensaver the wake up issue has gone away. This doesn't change the fact that there is an issue with my ATV sleeping when it shouldn't and failing to wake up, but having the screensaver active stops it sleeping in the first place I guess.
It's slightly annoying because I like to have music playing with the description and album art running, and this disappears when the screensaver comes on, but it is better than unplugging the thing every time I use it. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update, because it only appeared in the last one.
