[SOLVED] Console screen garbled installing to HP Proliant ML10 server
Hi,
We have bought a new HP proliant ML10 for replacing the machine that is being used as the main server of our school and running debian-edu / skolelinux.
Considering the cutting edge software and etc benefits of arch, I'm planning to setup dual boot the main server with skolelinux for current use and arch alongside. I can experiment with arch in the time when no one uses the server/clients (night time). My plan is to setup arch to server diskless clients and do a migration from debian-edu / skolelinux. This seems ok to me from security standpoint as we used to have all MS win machines with no firewall at all before we migrated everything to linux a few months back.
Now to the problem,
While using the latest dual USB arch install media, I do get an initial root console but it is looking diagonal and totally garbled, hard to read.
here is the lspci output obtained by booting the HP server as diskless from our old debian server

How to remove win 8 and install win 7 in bootcamp
I want to completely remove win 8 and install win 7 in bootcamp. I followed the steps in bootcamp assistant and it appears to remove the win 8 partition. However when starting a new win 7 bootcamp partition and installation setup still thinks win 8 is being used. how do I get it to recognize the win 7 now being installed from the usb drive? This is on an iMac 27 late 2012 with OS x 10.10.1
Hi Janesdf,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are looking for Windows downgrade on your Ideapad N580.
Before doing any changes in the system HDD partition or with Windows OS, I suggest you to create the system recovery media and then you can downgrade the OS. But you require Windows 7 recovery media.
Hope this helps.

Satellite Pro P100 (PSPA4E) - No Sound Following Win 7 Clean Install
Hello, A European friend really struggling and looking for help.
I have just clean installed Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit) on a Satellite Pro P100 (PSPA4E) which was purchased in November 2006. It was previously running XP and I never installed Vista though the laptop is badged Vista Capable) I followed the Win 7 bios/driver/software install order but I now have no sound at all. Everything that I have tried so far has failed to fix it.
The laptop has a Conexant based audio solution with harman kardon speakers. Win 7 has installed the following driver which reports the following info.
High Definition Audio Device (Microsoft Driver version 6.1.7601.17514 dated 11/19/2010) and Device status: This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Hardware IDs:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5047&SUBSYS_1179FF31&REV_1000 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5047&SUBSYS_1179FF31
There is a second exclamation mark in Device Manager for a further unknown device / uninstalled driver (showing code 28) for a device with a Hardware ID of ACPI\SMCB000 but I do not know what this device is!
Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix for my sound issue?
Thanks!
MartynAny one have any thoughts on this issue?
I have failed to locate a working / compatible Windows 7 x64 driver for Conexant HD Audio!
Perhaps there isn't one?
Perhaps I need to try harder?!?
Perhaps the on board sound solution featuring Conexant HD Audio is simply ****** as on www.conexant.com they say manufacturers have TOLD them NOT to make drivers available (... to poor unfortunate users)!!!
I think that manufacturers need to step up to the plate and support / help their customers. I own 4 Satellite Pro laptops running Vista x32 and Windows 7 x64. This one cost me well over £1,200 so I don't want to hear or conclude that it is simply scrap! That would represent truly poor value for money - the kind of business case that would undermine my belief that Toshiba laptops are the best in the business.
Ditto Microsoft - the Windows 7 x64 Upgrade Advisor tool gave me the all clear to upgrade this system. All generally appears fine EXCEPT the lack of sound.
Having now been exposed to the experience of many other laptop owners set out in various forums etc, covering both Toshiba laptops and some other major brands, I have to conclude that the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor is flawed and that a successful upgrade is somewhat hit and miss affair. Beware!
That said, still hopeful that someone out there will be able to help me fix this issue?

Martyn

Trying to get Win 7 64 installed, not working
I am trying to get Win 7 64 installed. I have my dvd (downloaded a authorized version from Microsoft partners group, legal copy, we use it for other installs all the time). I imaged it to a dvd, should be all set.
Both Mac and Win side see the DVD. I go to my bootcamp utility, and go through that process. I am setting it up on my solid state drive that I just put into my CD slot. The DVD drive is now in an external housing hooked up VIA USB.
I then tell it to continue to format my new HD, and start the instal. It restarts, my DVD drive spins up and starts running. Then a gray screen comes up with the Apple in the middle. It then flashes, every now and then.
Can any of you give me some ideas? I have spent hours on this so far.
Thanks,
JohnIf you use Apple Disk Utility to burn the ISO, it won't work properly unless burned at reduced slowest speed 2x. Common and what I would consider "well known" but not documented, not put in the PDF guide in writing.
Sometimes it even boots and installs but bad install and fails. So in a way you were lucky it wouldn't start. -
Compaq Proliant 1600 Server Install
Hi!
I'm working on setting up a Compaq Proliant 1600 server. . .I've made a bit of progress thanks to a few posts on the forum.
I've bugged everyone on the irc channel so now its time to ask here
Basically, I can't get the Arch install to recognize the scsi drives (2) I've got...
What I've done:
1. Loaded all the modules (cpqarray etc...)
2. In '/dev' I did 'mkdir ida'
3. Next I 'mknod /dev/ida/c0d0p1 b 72 1' <---this should be my swap
4. Then I 'mknod /dev/ida/c0d0p2 b 72 2' <-----this is my /
Now I'm not sure what to do...
Since I've been able to partition the drives the next step seems to be to
set filesystem mountpoints, right? The Arch install doesn't recognize the drives at all - It simply says "NONE".
So, if anyone has any tips or advice I'd appreciate it
I'm setting this server up for my school's website - and thought I'd go with Arch. . .
Thanks!
nedsonIt's all about loading the right modules. With < 0.7 ISO's you can modprobe cpqarray. Later ISO's don't have cpqarray anymore, they use cciss.

Hello, sorry if this has been brought up a lot before - how do I do a Win 7 clean install with HDD format with OEM OS? My idea was to create a deployable USB, but I soon found that MS will not really let me download an image of an OEM OS, and will have me turn to the OEM provider for this end. I briefly went through Acer tech support but found no way of obtaining (online) the image. Is there some way I missed, or is there different (simpler) procedure for a clean install? Thank you.
@ terenz: I would be fine with making my own installation media, but the (original OEM) Win7 installation will not allow me to create them; only the "recovery" disc which is not enough to make a clean install. So I went to Microsoft site to download ISO image for my Windows copy and it (obviously) refused to hand it to me, directing me to my OEM SW provider (Acer in this case) instead. I am kind of stuck from here on. @ ACE IronFly: Thanks, will give it a shot when I have a chance. Just to be clear - is there a chance erecovery will work after a HDD format?

How to install two instance on one server
Dear Guru,
I want to install two instance on one server.
I have installed IDES server ( win 2k3 64 bit with SQL 2005 ECC 6.0)
Drive is
c: 20 GB for os
d: 5 gb swap
e: 5 gb swap
f: 450 GB database.
The same server i want to installed SOLMAN 4.0 with sql 2005.
Please suggest me how to installed without affcting IDES server.
AmolHi,
You only have to consider 2 things :
1. SAPTRANSHOST entry in hosts file will be the same for both systems
this mean that both systems will share the same transport directory
Regards,
Wojtek
This is not true. Your SAPTRANSHOST will remain the same, but you can (and should) specify independent trans directories with the DIR_TRANS and and EPS profile parameters to designate where the instance trans files should be located (i.e. /usr/sap/trans_SID). I recommend you make this change in the existing host first, and then clear out the trans directory. Let the 2nd instance install into it and then alter that one too (thereby moving the files to the new /usr/sap/trans_SID2).

Unable to Install WL6.0 on NT4SP5 server
I am attempting to install Weblogic Server 6.0 on an NT 4 SP 5 server. 96MB RAM, 2G free disk space, Pentium II processor. After doubleclicking on the weblogic600_win.exe file, the installer extracts files to c:\temp\ixxxxxxx folder. Then the installer just goes away. Nothing happens. I can install wl6 on every other server I have access to without problems. I've disabled ALL services on the box and disabled virus protection, but I'm running out of ideas. I am an administrator on the server, and I've even tried logging on locally, not on the domain to do the install and it's the same. The extraction completes then the installer just dies. Any ideas??

How to view installed licenses key in terminal server
Hi Everyone,
I am running Terminal win server 2008 standard R2 SP1 in which 10 remote desktop per user CAL's licenses are installed before I joined in the company. Now I am asked that company has purchased only 5 licenses and we have installed 10 licenses in our server,
at the time of server installation some third party vendor did the server built and rest 5 of the random licenses installed by him. Now I have to see the license key's to match them with our purchased key's by our company and rest I will remove from my server
to avoid any audit related problems.
How can I see them?Hi,
There is no documented function to show you the keys/agreement numbers/etc. that were used to install each license pack. What I would suggest is to first gather the original purchase emails/paperwork/authorization numbers/agreement numbers/retail keys/etc.
for the RDS CALs, rebuild the licensing database via RD Licensing Manager Manage Licenses wizard, then finally re-install the purchased RDS CALs.
You may need to contact the Clearinghouse during this process.

That means 8i was never certified on Win 2000. That means there's no guarantee that you can install it, or that it will work after installed.
But if you are determined to go down this totally uncertified, unsupported path, my only suggestion is to go back and read ... and heed ... all the points in the fine installation guide. Particularly the part about installing the loopback. Don't assume "I don't need that". Just do what the install guide says. -

Installing problem on Windows 2003 Server 64 bit
Dear All,
I'am trying to install XE onto a Windows 2003 Server 64 bit.. The installation process ends without any errors but the database itself seems not to start.
I tried several hints that have been mentioned here within the forum. But none of them worked. While experimenting I saw that there is not a single registry entry of Oracle within HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\Software .
Is there a possiblity to set those needed registry entries manually? Is there a script for that purpose?
Thank you very much for your help!
Regards
MatthiasHi,
thank you for your reply. As 32bit programs should run under Windows 64bit I thought the XE should run under 64bit, too.
The installation of XE itself seems to finish without any errors. But within the log files it can be read that the database has not started up due to a out of memory problem. This causes many log entries within all other logfiles as no database could be created.
The out of memory problem might be the same as within Advice on running XE on a small virtual Linux host ("Virtuozzo") because I am using a virtual windows 2003 server with "Virtuozzo", too.
At this time I am on discussing the issue with the provider. Maybe I will get a dedicated server with Windows Server 2003 64bit. Hopefully the XE could be installed on the 64bit Windows Server because 32bit dedicated servers are rare.
Best regards
Matthias
