Win 8.1 Pro x2 recovery if HDD fails

Is there any way to create a recovery DVD set in case of catastrophic HDD failure.
In previous versions of Windows 'recovery manager' was used but this doesn't seem to be compatible with Win 8.1

  • May I remove without any risk the two recovery partitions in win 8.1 Pro 64bit and what is the hidden reserved partition?

I have this partition situation on my unic disc C & D for Windows 8.1 Pro at 64bits (see fig. 1)
and this is the same list from diskpart:
My first question is: may I remove partitions 1 and 5 without any risk?
My second question is what is the reserved partition 3 and why is not mentioned in Disc Manager?
Thanks for your help and excuse if the images are in Italian but I'am using an Italian OS.

I am not entirely convinced about your answer.
Yes the first partition of 800 MB may be the OEM original partition, (by ASUS containing Win 8.0) that I upgraded with a disk to Windows 8.0 Pro, and than upgraded to Win 8.1 Pro from Windows Store.
Now I made a full backup image of factory settings (win 8.0) on a USB key and now, after the upgrade to win 8.0 pro and then to win 8.1 this backup copy is useless.
The second partition is a system EFI partition and because the disk is a GPT basic disk and not a MBR, that partition is where (is that correct?) are system and boot info together with the hidden reserved third partition.
About the fourth recovery partition I suppose it was created when I created and installed Win 8.1 Preview on a VHD disk with double booting menu (that I deleted after the release of Windows 8.1).
This is why I asked if the two recovery partitions can be safely removed.
So, with this more info, may you review you answer and confirm or give me more details about all.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Hdd change no product key win 8.1 pro

Hi, because of a faulty sdd which i had implantd myself, i cannot recover the original product key. i know have build in a new sdd, and i have installed win 8,1 pro, but i do not have the product key, it isn't on the bottom either. How do i get the original product key that belongs with my HP Pavilion 13-a030nd x360? Thanks in advance for the replys! Sven

Registration in now done online, If there was an issue then you would get a windows notification telling you to call and register.
Newwe machines did not come with a COA sticker and the Product key is located in the BIOS (do not mess around in there) If you truly need it then I will happily tell you how to get it but resintallation is done almost automatically when you go online.

  • Fresh install Win 8.1 Pro into Pavilion X2 (10", 32GB tablet)

Have a Pavilion X2 (32GB version) with Win 8.1 Bing.
Need to get into domain, therefore wanted to fresh install Win 8.1 Pro, at the same time remove the recovery partition for more space.
F10 to bios to set bootup to USB drive, pops in a Win 8.1 Pro x64 installation disc, but X2 refuses to boot to disc.
Is it the x64 version disc problem or have i missed some setting to make the X2 boot to disc properly??

  • X230 Win 8.1 Pro Fingerprint single swipe power on and login black screen

When i try to log on using the single swipe power on and login feature sometimes the screen will go to the login screen, the finger print scanner will flash, and then i get a black screen. I can see the mouse cursor, but nothing else. If I swipe my finger again, I will see the login screen again briefly, before it returns to a blank screen again. There is no way to get past this, aside from forcing the machine to power down (Hold down power key for 10 seconds).
Does anyone have a solution for this. Powering on the device and logging in with a single swipe is a really great feature, but I need it to not brick logging in.
Thanks for any help or advice.

I apologize I didn't already provide these answers initially.
Questions:1.  Does this happen 100% of the time, or is it intermittent?
I have only noticed this intermittently.
    2.  Does it happen starting from full shutdown (press and hold SHIFT key while you shutdown the computer normally, then swipe to power on and log in).
I have only had this problem when resuming from a state of hibernation.
    3.  Does it happen starting from sleep (swipe to resume the system from sleep and log in)
I rarely sleep the system, but I recall it hanging once or twice when coming back from sleep as well.
    4.  Can you check "View all problem reports" screen in Action Center to see if any crash happens at the same time the problem occurs?
the only problem reports that corresponds with the times this has happened today refer to an problem with the Anti malware Service Executable with the summary being MpTelemetry.
    5.  Can you export registry at these locations:
        a.  [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\Credential Provider Filters]
        b.  [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\Credential Providers]
I have this, but unfortunately do not see how I can attach it this post.
Edit: Here is a link to download it directly. Once you respond I'll disable this.
    Link removed
It should also be noted that I do not have a problem when single swipe is disabled. (So I need to swipe twice. One to power on, and the other to log in.)

  • No Win 8.1 Pro Option at 1K Pricepoint & Yoga3 Performance

Post is basically feedback.  I've purchased several Yoga 2's for customer deplyoments.  All have been satisfied.  Now I'm looking at one for myself and I can't buy one with Win 8.1 Pro version OS for under $1400 Yoga2  or $1500 Yoga3.
This was previously possible at a sub $1400 pricepoint.  While purchasing from MS is an option for $89, its just silly that the product can't be purchased in this configuration from the manufacturer.  This makes recovery more complicated, since a recovery partition or media won't be for the OS you ultimately wanted or purchased.  I guess I could use a 3rd party application, but simple is always nice.
I looked at a Yoga3 this week and am having problems justifyig the additional expense for an extra USB port, AC witreless, slightly better graphics and a CoreM570 processor which only has a lower TDP than the i7 in a Yoga2. it's base clock is full Ghz lower than a comperable i7 and max turbo is 600 Mhz less.  While this is often relative based on the applications you run, you do need to be giving people more if you are going to charge a premium.  Both sport 4MB L2 cache, so what inspires the price increase?  The watchband like hinge?
Battery life is another example of the 3's failure.  7.2 hrs (Y3) vs 9 (Y2) Respectable yes, but once again the Y3 comes up short, regardless if this is theoretical run time.
Everyone has an opinion and this is mine.  Not asking for anyone to to agree.  I remain undecided on a Y2 or 3 purchase at this point for nothing more than the OS offering which I need for work.  If the performance and value warranted the steep price increase, this would be an easy decision, but it's just not there.  Come on Lenovo...   You want to be taken seriously, right?
    Thanks,

is coming a new version optimized for low-end video card?
Not likely, since the trend is to move to higher performance cards and not the toher way around.
As to the inability to access settings, that's in your browser, most likely ActiveX controls blocking it. There are two options:

  • VM created on Win 8.1 Pro Laptop cannot find win 7 iso file on USB

VM cannot find USB to load Win 7
I have a Windows laptop with Win 8.1 Pro installed. I turned on Hyper-V and created a VM. Everything worked up to that point. I also downloaded the Win 7 iso and placed it on a USB thumb drive.  I also downloaded the Win 7 installer.
When I "start" the VM, I get a black screen with a message the VM could not load an OS.
It appears to me that the VM does not know where to look for the OS. I cannot find any way to tell it where to look.
I spent over $300 for upgrades to Win 8.1 Pro and a licensed copy of Win 7 so I could run Win 7 on my laptop as I need it to run UPK (which is not compatible with Win 8).
As a last resort I went to the Micrsoft store in Miami and offered to buy a Surface Pro 3 if they would install the VM and Win 7 on that for me. They said it was very easy to do and I would have no problems, etc., etc., etc. In other words they did not have
a clue about what I was talking about.
I hate to see over $3000 worth of hardware collecting dust on my closet shelf because I cannot use them. I am hopeful someone here can help a non-techie make this thing work.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dennis
PS - Went to the Apple store last night and was shown a MacBook Air with Parallels installed. It was running Apple stuff on the Apple OS and MS Office 365 on Win 7. It was all very seamless so am leaning very much to going with Apple as a solution.

You don't say that you attached the iso to the VM.  The easiest way to do
that is to connect to the VM and then on the console, pull down the
"Media" menu, Select "Insert Disk", then browse to the ISO and select it.
Then under the "Action" menu, select "Reset".
You can also mount an iso in the settings for the VM.

  • Win 8.1 pro 64bit desktop blank screen after logon

    Hi all
I have an ASUS P7H55M/USB 3 MB with i5 CPU 4Gig RAM NVIDEA 210 graphics card with latest drivers.
My OS as above being an upgrade from 7 pro to win 8 pro then downloading win 8.1 from the store in the last three months.
In the last few days I suddenly cant access my start screen/desktop after login. Even the usual custom page before the login is a generic blue background so none of my customized profiles shows its customized look.
    Again, desktop/startscreen black/blank.
Able to access my files via ctrl alt del etc.
Been reading up and doing restore etc as suggested on various sites including malware scans NO JOY.I even tried to just run a repair using my win 8 pro upgrade disc but the system wont allow something like invalid media or something and I don't have media
for win 8.1 pro as mentioned.
Can anyone suggest a solution please? or am I going to have to reinstall with all the internet data bundle costs included?

In the last few days I suddenly cant access my start screen/desktop after login. Even the usual custom page before the login is a generic blue background so none of my customized profiles shows its customized look.
A problem seen mostly be nVidia users seems to be that the screen being viewed is the secondary of an Extended display, e.g. with the primary being either another monitor or a phantom.  Try pressing Win-P, CursorUp, Enter as if you can display and use
the Project dialog to shift from Extend to Duplicate.  There should at least be a screen refresh after the Enter.
Able to access my files via ctrl alt del etc.
Ah.  That sounds like another problem symptom.  Users of third-party system modifications saw this recently when there was an update to some kernel modules.  So, presumably explorer.exe is not running then?  And restarting it fails?
Event Viewer could be started then and it might give you some clues.  Otherwise if you do have system modifications try uninstalling them.
    Good luck

    Hi,
Our one of the customer has recently updated Win 8.1 Pro 32 Bit from Win XP.  They are using MS Office 2003 32 Bit since long.  With XP Office 2003 was working perfectly.  But with Win 8.1 they have found one problem.
When they are typing mail ID in "TO" or "CC" the saved email ID is appear but by pressing ENTER the Auto fill action is not accepted.  Because of this problem, customer have to type email id manually each and every time.
Can you please help me to resolve or clarify this problem.
    Thank You..!!

    Hi Shashank,
Just as Dominic's share, Microsoft Office 2003 suites and applications are not compatible with Windows 8 and later Operating System.
I suggest you upgrade your Office version. Microsoft Office 2013 could work on Windows 8.1 seamlessly.

  • Win 8.1 Pro Key Problem or not ?

Okay so i just brought a new  computer
    with win 8.1 pro
Installed windows when it asked for the key i tried to type the numbers that where on the blue folder thingy i had win8 cd in
an it wouldent let me use the number 0  so i couldent do any thing.......
so i said skip to the key thingy an after a while when the computer was done installing an i finaly was in windows
i had a look an  now it suddenly says its activated ? how can it activate it self with a key i havent given it ?
Also the key in the end says AAOEM what does that mean ?

    Hi Zaris24,
Have you compared the product ID in the machine with the key you owned ?
    To check the product ID:
Right click the start screen and choose "System".
“the key in the end says AAOEM”
It shows us that the product key is a OEM key. OEM activation does not  require  the user`s actions and the key should only be used to activate this specific machine.
Here is a link for reference(Pay attention to this part” Original Equipment Manufacturer”):
    Learn About Product Activation
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793423.aspx
Hardware vendors perform OEM activation by associating the operating system to the firmware (basic input/output system, or BIOS) of the computer. This process occurs before the computer is sent to the customer so that no additional actions are required
    by the user.
If you have any doubts in the genuine of this machine, please run this tool to have a diagnostic:

  • What is the 0x80070570 error when installing Win7 or Win8 or Win 8.1 on a clean SSD/HDD ?!

    Hello,
My computer was working perfectly with Win7 for about 2years until I formatted on monday to clean a little bit my drives ... Since then I'm unable to install windows again. I have the 0x80070570 error.
    The complete error message is:
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure that all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code:0x80070570.
What is the 0x80070570 error when installing Win7 or Win8 or Win 8.1 on a clean SSD/HDD ?! These versions are full from MSDN.
    What I did already:
    check my RAM (16go gskill)
    remove unnecessary hard drives
replace my "old" SSD with a clean new one
    remove my sound cards
remove the mouse and use only keyboard
    reset the BIOS
check every LED on the motherboard (asus sabertooth z77) and there is no problem
    What are the problems?
    Thanks,
    Adrien.

    Hi,
If all images cannot be installed, we have a reason to suspect the hardware cause.
If you use two memory slots to get 16G RAM, I suggest you test with just one (8G) to check the result.

  • Can't Install Win 8.1 Pro 64bit

    Hi Guys,
I just purchase Win 8.1 Pro from the Microsoft Store (AUS). I have created a live usb (selected from the  windows setup options) so that I could do a clean install of the OS on my laptop.
Each time that I have installed the OS (both clean or upgrade) it automatically installs the 32bit version. When I purchased the OS, it did not specify whether it was bit-specific, so I assumed it would include both bit versions, with an option to select
    during the installation process.
I know my laptop is capable of running 64bit environment as my previous OS was Win 7 Ult 64bit.
Does anyone know what to do to either force the setup into installing 64bit, or any other method to get 64bit installed.
    Cheers...

My understanding is that the download from Microsoft will be the same bitness as the OS you were running when you downloaded it.
I don't recall the mechanism, but I do believe with a little elbow grease it's possible to get a 64 bit Windows 8.1 download, as I recall reading another forum thread where someone had the same issue and ultimately solved it.  Do some searching for
forum posts on this same subject; I'll bet you can turn up the information.
I wish I'd been able to help you more directly, but don't lose hope.
