Win 8.1 recovery failed

Tested Win 8.1 recovery USB drive with 2T Seagate Hybrid HD in K450e with same 2T Seagate Hybrid HD purchased from Lenovo.
Recovery failed. No OS error appeared on reboot.
Used software to see all partitions in place, but OS partition not active.
Set OS partition active.
Same no OS error.
Restarted Win 8.1 recovery USB drive.
Attempted repair.
Same OS error.
Did not find OneKey recovery DVD option for Win 8.1 system.
Forum comment is Windows took this function over.
How to make Win 8.1 recovery work?
thanks

  • System recovery fails after upgrade to Win 8.1 on Satellite L75D-A7283

My elderly uncle forgot the password to his Win 8 user account sometime after upgrading to Win 8.1. He was the administrator, we haven't been able to get Microsoft to reset the account, so I thought to roll back the computer to its factory installation of Win 8.
However, when I try to do that, I get as far as the Reset your PC screen and find that the only target OS is Win 8.1, not the original Win 8. Ok, I accept that. But after choosing to restore Win 8.1, it says "Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing."
I have examined the disk by removing it and attaching it to another computer and find that both the original Win 8 recovery partition and the new Win 8.1 GPT recovery partition are both there. They just don't seem to be accessible.
It seems that the Win 8.1 upgrade has made the original factory recovery partition inaccessible, which is not particularly helpful. We have no recovery disks to work from, so I think my only recourse is to try to get a Win 8 factory recovery disk from Toshiba, but I wondered if anyone else has a suggestion? Thanks.

    Satellite L75D-A7283
It's my understanding the upgrade does not modify any other partitions while upgrading Windows itself. Seems likely something else is wrong.
If you did not create recovery media before and cannot do so now, then obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.
All the information in the section Recovering the Internal Storage Drive, which begins on p. 53 of the User's Guide, should still be applicable.

  • HP 2000 notebook Recovery fails after complete install

I purchased the recovery disks for 64 bit Win 8 From HP and after loading the three recovery disks (100%) it asks for the forth disk then says recovery has failed. I have teh .CAB file saved but dont know how to submit this to HP support. The error log saves to the window file structure. The details:Detect some error during PININST_BBV.Check c:\system.sav\logs\burnbootwarn.logor, check c:\system.sav\logs\burnbootmerge.log  How can I get HP support to help me resolve this?

I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with HP tech support last .  Starting with changing the Bios date to 6/1/2006 and then started the recovery (3rd) time.  All look great unitl midnight when i went to bed .  It had loaded and ejected all 4 disks.  THE software installation was running.  This mornig I had a Recovery failed message.  Waiting fo rTech support to call me back (They are late). I can't do a refresh of windows 8 because the recovery has formatted the hard drive and you cannot get to an options screen. We havent reloaded any BIOS settings yet.  I am still waiting for tech support to call Case # 3017584806

  • G6 win 8.1 recovery

    I have a g6-2231tu laptop with Intel i5 and 4gb ram which I purchased January 2013 with Windows 8.0.
Forgive the Iong spiel as this has been quite a saga as I have just spent the last 4 days (50+ hours) trying to fix/restore my laptop but I am writing this in the hope that someone at HP may realise that they have a serious problem (but chances are they know already!).  Let me add that I have worked in IT for over 30 years, the last 20 as a wintel server/installation engineer so I have a fair idea on this stuff.
For the first 6 months the laptop had problems dropping the wireless network connection (you would always have to reconnect manually). Eventually after about 9 months a new driver fixed this problem (or Win 8.1 ??). Around August, 2013 I started having problems with the Trackpad scrolling. It was like it would loose its sensitivity and (sometimes) would even jump vertically up and down the screen untouched. At the time I was using the Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad driver as the laptop was delivered (2012 driver).  I downloaded the latest Synaptics driver for my model via the HP website but the problem remained unchanged. I read all the post and surfed the web for a resolution as I didn't feel the problem was hardware related as (occasionally) it would work ok for a few minutes. After seeing the number of people suffering similar mouse problems (via these threads) I thought that eventually HP/Synaptics would release an updated driver which resolved the fault so I didn't bother logging a support call. BTW, an external mouse worked ok.
After 6 months of trying different drivers I decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1 thinking that may fix the problem but it didn't. What I did discover was that if you loaded the mouse(Synaptics) utility and clicked the "Reset Devices" button it would resolve the fault, sometimes for 15 minutes or so, sometimes for 15 seconds. This further lead me to believe it wasn't a MOUSE hardware problem.
Anyway after 6 months of problems I decided to try rolling back to the Recovery Partition. I had made a Recovery Disk Set (6 disks) and had System backups. I also had made a HP System Repair disk from when it was Windows 8.
Thinking I was fully armed here it was transpired:
    1) Tried HP Recovery Manager to recover back to Factory defaults - Recovery Script fails toward the end with
BBVLast.cmd : [20x] CTOError.flg is detected at the end of the BBC process...
Suggest to create PIN-log and send to TWN PDC NB-PreinPM for further analysis .....
(as experienced by numerous people on these threads), HP Gurus suggesting it was the 8.1 upgrade which it doesn't like?? (I notice that the wireless nic is not ON (and won't turn ON) which may be the fault??)
    2) I then tried to use the Windows 8.1 recovery disk set I had made only to discover that 2 of the 6 disks had nothing written on them (eventhough it told me the set created ok)
    3) After the Recovery Set failed I tried to restore my Windows 8.1 System Image but this wouldn't launch using the HP System Repair disk made from Windows 8.0 (I now realise you need to make a Repair DRIVE from Windows 8.1 for this). I then tried to Restore my Windows 8.0 System Image but this also failed. Without a valid Recovery Partion or system image and no Windows 8.0 or 8.1 software I was forced to download a Windows 8.1 Evaluation copy from Microsoft, which I then installed.
Anyway, that's it in a nutshell. Along the way I have tried System Image restores within Windows but I still don't have a fully restored laptop.
I expect that a laptop's Recovery Partition is capable of recovering the laptop. The way I see it, the warranty may have expired in January, 2014 but I was sold a faulty product that couldn't fullfil the HP specification.
What have I learned from this experienece - that I will never buy another HP product again! Buyer Beware!

If you still have a functioning Recovery partition or your created Recovery Discs -one of the suggestions here may help:

  • Hp pavilion dv6 recovery fails

hey everyone first post on the forum
i have an hp pavilion dv6 that came with 64 bit windows 7 home premium installed. i tried to dual boot Ubuntu with it and ended up overwriting windows. lots more story but i ended up calling hp and ordering recovery discs for my laptop. i then zeroed my hard drive and ran the 3 recovery discs. it prompted my supplemental disc which I inserted. all went well until the "setting up for first use"screen appeared. hp software began installing stuff the during the drivers part it comes up with recovery failed. i ran without the supplemental disc and it did the same thing. someone please help

    Hi,
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 character Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
Assuming that this is just a problem with the Recovery process, there is a straight forward work around.
Create a retail installation disc yourself - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the exact same as the version you currently have )  from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers you may need can be found starting Here.

  • Pavilion dv6-6c recovery fails well into the process

The computer was reporting smart errors and would no longer boot.  I pulled the hard drive and checked it with the hitachi software wich reported the drive was failing wiht an unspecified error.  I purchased a replacement hitachi 750G travelstart drive like the one pulled from the laptop and ordered a recovery disk set from HP.
The computer is a Paviliion dv6-6c35dx Entertainment PC
The provided recover disk set is 67890-002 System Recovery DVD Windows 7 Recovery Media for Windows 7 Products Service Pack 1.
The recovery fails after about an hour after the final disk finished copying files.
The error message allows me to select Details which are:
    [15:31:01.90] ChkErrBB.CMD : Detect some error during PININST_BBV
    [15:31:01.90] ChkErrBB.CMD : Check c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
    [15:31:01.90] ChkErrBB.CMD : or, check c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootMerge.log
These errors are in a file name CTOERROR.flg which opened in notepad when I selected details.
Using Notepad to navigate to the suggested locations I find that there is no \logs subdirectory under system.sav.
Was I given the wrong set of recovery disks?
I checked the hard drive and both the new and old are hitachi part number  HDD: 5K750-640
Please help, I would really like to get this year old machine recovered.

  • Windows 8.1 recovery fails

I have a 17T-J100 laptop when I ran an image restore it wiped out the recovery drive. When I try to do a system recovery using the HP Recovery disk it loads all the disk, trys to load the software a couple of times, then get an error message.
"Recovery Attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons. Save log, Details, Retry. "
    Details gives the following
ChkErr.cmd: Detected some error during PININST_BBV
    ChkErr.cmd: Check C; system.save\logs\Burn Boot Warn.log
    ChkErr.cmd: or, check:\ system.save\logs\BurnBootMerge.log
If I turn it off and back on goes to this window.
A retry get same thing. It  loads all the disk, reboots even get a welcome administrater screen momentarily  before it reboots and say is installing software.  Does that a couple times before get the recovery failed screen.
The repair option on my recovery boot USB drive says can not repair, reload the recovery media.
I tried skipping the media disk as had that option . Said preparation was 100% complete and went through rebooting etc  Welcome administrator screen  then rebooted and tried again to install the software and ended up again at the Recovery failed screen.

We are seeing this error on a lot of posts. I will give you 2 solutions that have worked for others.
Enter BIOS, reset to Default settings-then change date in BIOS to 1/01/2012. Save & Exit. Boot from Recovery, allow it to finish- but on the first reboot enter BIOS again to be sure date is still 2012. Exit and allow Recovery to finish. Hopefully.
Another solution that has worked for several others is to remove the mSATA cache drive if your model has one. Run Recovery, allow it to finish..hopefully. At least one poster said he got all Windows Updates done also before shutting down to reinstall the mSATA.

  • Hi I installed a new hard drive in my Mac mini osx lion an when I turn it on I get a flashing file with a question mark. I tried holding command and R keys when turning it on but the recovery fails to work. Does any one know how I can get it to recover?

Hi I installed a new hard drive in my Mac mini osx lion an when I turn it on I get a flashing file with a question mark. I tried holding command and R keys when turning it on but the recovery fails to work. I can hold the option key at start up and choose my network, then Internet recovery shows up with an arrow pointing up. When I click on the arrow Internet recovery fails and all I get is a globe with a triangle on it with an exclamation mark on it, and under that it says
    apple.com/support
          -6002F
Does any one know how I can fix this without a recovery disc? Thanks

I just want to add to this, in case someone else searches for this error on Apple Support (google doesnt cover apple support.. how clever is that?)
I had the same error. And i had a Computer that had worked, with a SSD drive and 16GB upgrade done by the owner himself.
I tried swapping with a Mechinal Harddrive, no luck.
Kept the Mechanical drive in, and tried with some other Ram, it worked..
So for me this error and after reading the other responses can be boiled down to a Harddrive problem or Ram issue.
    It was Ram for me..

Recently I erased an iPhone 3 so that it could be passed on and used by someone else, using the erase all content and settings feature. This has killed my iPhone and it is now stuck on the Apple logo. I have tried a restore in iTunes but recovery fails. This is not a jailbroken iPhone. Anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed?

If you haven't already tried, see if you can force it into recovery mode to restore it:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808.  If that doesn't work, the last thing you can try is to put it in DFU mode to restore it: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2648467?threadID=2648467&tstart=0.

  • All my X6250s hang in ESX 3.5 U5 with SCSI "command error recovery failed"

After installing a pair of Virtualized Network Expansion Modules (X4238) in our Blade 6000 chassis, my ESX 3.5 Update 5 hosts will randomly fail with the error "scsi: device might be offline - command error recovery failed: host 5 channel 0 id 0 lun 0." This does not represent LUNS on our Sun/Qlogic FC hbas (PCIe dual 4Gig). The old Dell blades sharing the FC LUNs are not experiencing any SCSI errors whatsoever. It appears to me this is referring to the VNEM's SAS fabric, but we have no SAS drive modules in the chassis. Is the fact that it sees other hosts on this fabric causing issues? I'd like to disable the SAS fabric, but don't see a way to do this via the BIOS or VNEM ILOM. Do you think I'm barking up the wrong tree?
    Thanks,
    Charles

Yes, I had updated the blade firmware to the current provided (though I see reference to a newer version in the docs, but not at the download site). However, it seems related to interrupt sharing with the NXGE card/driver under ESX 3.5. I have an open case with Sun, and while they suspected a known issue with the aacraid driver (ESX350-201003402-BG), that had already been installed. They're now asking to create a case with VMware. In the meantime, I've tested a pair of our X6250s without the NXGE, installing the original quad port GigE NIC (Intel). Those hosts are very stable. It may not be the VNEM at all, but I'll keep you posted.

  • GT70 0ND-204US Windows 7 removed and recovery fails due to drive reformat

    Model Number:GT70 0ND-204US
    Hello,
I was attempting to install Unbuntu from a LiveCD to an external hard drive and I believe during that process I accidentally reformatted the SSD to be an ext4 partition and swap space.  When I rebooted to try to get into windows I got an error that said, "Bootmgr is missing" and when I tried to enter recovery mode I got as far as seeing a Windows 7 like user interface but then I was shown the error (paraphrasing here), "The installation drive must be named OS_install please try again."
I'm typing this using the LiveCD on the undermentioned  computer and can use any tools available in Unbuntu if further diagnostic information is needed.
    Cheers!
Also I would like to thank anyone in advance for their help and even if you're just reading this I appreciate the time you have given.
