Win 8.1 temp / enviroment folders permissions

Hello, how are you?
Three days ago, last win update came in to my computer. Everything was great, but Acrobat Reader, stops work.
So I unninstall, e install agian. Its ok. Reboot, and now are problems: Dropbox don't work, Acrobat Reader don't work, winrar works bad.
There are no restore points before this update, (don't know why).
I try to install again Dropbox, setup don't open,
If i try top open a file inside a .rar docment, is extract to the file folder, instead temp folder, and open anything from temp folder.
What i do:
Check Disk, OK
SFC  to check system files, OK
follow this link: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/b9e763a8-e026-4394-bc6d-cf59892571c5/overwritten-temp-folder-drive-permissions?forum=w8itprogeneral
Most of files, was corrected, but don't solve anything.
Manual I go to temp folder, on my user folder, and chang security manual to my user, and permit all.
Dropbox is working.
I still can't run any setup from my computer.
any idea how to solve this? withou make full system restore?
Luis L.

Hi,
I checked my test computer, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, found that recently updates are all Microsoft Endpoint Protection updates and they couldn't found at Installed updates. You can find them at View update history.
If you installed System Center Endpoint Protection, you can try to uninstall it temporarilly for test.
In addition, you can use the command below instead to fix your system for test.
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
It downloads the corrupted files for you from the Internet.

  • Folders permissions are changing. Cannot find the cause.

I am running multiple Windows server 2008 R2. And the clients are running either Windows XP SP3 or Windows 7 SP1.
I have a folder to hold all of the users home folders. D:\Users\Staff In this folder are all of the users folders. Each server has a similar folder structure.
During the day folder User1 will change its permissions and lock out the administrators. After fixing the issue, it will happen again. It may be on User1 again or it may be different users. And it can be multiple users. The users do not have the ability
    to change permissions.
On the local server I turned on "Audit object access". When the policies refresh, the settings are turned off. So I have been unsuccessful in finding the cause. I have checked the Group Policies and nothing is turning off Audit object access. It
seems as if the change in the permissions on the folders happens at the same time as Audit object access gets cleared.
If I create a GPO with Audit object access turned on, the settings are locked and turned off but the winning GPO is the GPO turned on.
We started filtering out the desktop.ini file because it was making the folders all look like My Documents.
We started noticing this issue over the summer. I do not know how long it has been happening.
I have been trying to catch the offending process with Audit object access, AccessEnum, EventViewer, and ProcMon.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
I think we may not able to change that option directly once it is applied the change you make on Folder Redirection policy may not be refreshed to clients even it displayed as changed on server side.
Thus if issue still exists, test to create a new policy to replace the old one. You can create a new policy in a new OU and move users into the new OU, or create a new policy which "direct folders to new location" and folder redirection folders
will be moved to a new place once a user logged on.

  • Overwritten temp folder / drive permissions

    Hello,
I have this annoying issue with windows 8.1, my temp folder permission is changed periodically (like once a month or so) and I have to change it back manually, but I don't know what and why is doing this.
And right now this issue is grown, When I'm trying to copy or save a file to my secondary HDD a Windows allert pops up saying something like this: A required privilege is not held by the client (0X80070522)
Than I looked up the permissions and the Authenticated User was blanked out none of the checkboxes were checked
The funny thing is that Windows put the boot to that drive and haf of my softwares are also there and still something was able to change permissions (and or Ownership),
I would think Windows protects the MBR more.
So, I would like to know how can I resolve this and get my rights back to my HDD and find what is messing with my folder and drive permissions. Oh and is that right that the owner on that drive is TrustedInstaller because on my other drive Administrators
    are the owner?
And please don't say to delete my user account because I use a lots of software which needs configuration (like IIS, MySQL, etc..) and right now I don't have a day or two to reconfigure everything.

    Hi,
For this issue, please reset the  security settings on your system from the following article.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222
Note:This article is for windows vista and let us test if it works Windows 8.1.
Just run in a evalated prompt the following command.
    secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose
If the issue persists, please reset all permissions, run this command:
    icacls * /reset /t /c /q

  • Public Folders Permissions Tab Missing on one pc but not another

this has to be pc related but i just can't find any info anywhere. when i log into a pc and startup outlook and go to public folders, i cannot see the permissions tab on the folders at all. but if i go to another pc, same OS and office version, i CAN see
and edit the permissions on public folders! has anyone else run across this problem?
    Exchange Server 2007
    Desktops Win7
    Outlook 2013

    Hi,
Since the issue only happens to specific client, the issue should be related to client side. I suggest we can do the following method to narrow down the issue:
    1. Start Outlook in safe mode(Start > Run >type “Outlook /safe”> Enter) to check whether the issue persists.
    2. Perform a clean boot for Windows to have a try.
If the issue doesn’t happen in safe mode, the issue may be caused by any third-party add-ins. We can disable third-party add-ins one by one to find out the root cause.
If the issue persists in Outlook safe mode but not occurs after performing a clean boot, please disable the related third-party program in Windows to resolve the issue. For more information about clean boot, please refer to:

  • Multiple temp user folders on sbs2011 new migration

Migrated very well from sbs2008 on failing hardware to sbs2011 on new Dell PowerEdge 320. 40 users. Well very well with only minor issues like losing companyweb page data, not a lot so we just added data back. Now today I see that on the sbs2011 server 1000
c:\user\temp.domain.local folders with one created every second.
Almost looks like a virus. Folders are created faster that I can delete them. All so 0 size.
need suggestions on how to stop this. Thanks

  • Trying to use automator to change a folders permissions rights when something is put in it

I'm trying to use automator so that when ever a folder or file is dropped into a shared folder on my desktop the permissions are updated to that new file/folder. Anyone know how to do this? Struggling at the moment. It would basically automate the following actions:
    - Select folder on desktop
    - Command + i to bring up folder info
    - Click lock and input password to allow finder to make changes
    - Click on cog icon to select 'apply to enclosed items...'
    - Close folder info panel
The folder is a shared folder but when a new directory is put into the folder by myself the other person doesn't have access rights so I need to go through the above to rectify this. Or likewise if she puts an item into the folder I have to do the same so I have access rights. Basically we're too poor right now to set up a proper home network! Any other tips to solve this issue, even if they do need small financial backing would be greatly appreciated

Yes, you can use the Clone Stamp tool on a precomposition layer, just like any other layer.
If I understand your problem correctly, you're just having trouble opening the precomposition layer in the Layer panel.
Here are instructions for After Effects CS4, from the
"Opening and navigating nested compositions" section of After Effects CS4 Help on the Web:
"Double-click a precomposition layer in the Timeline panel. Alt-double-click (Windows) or Option-double-click (Mac OS) to open the precomposition layer as a layer in the Layer panel."
The behavior is reversed for earlier versions.

  • Public Folders Permissions

    Hi,
is there a way to set Public Folder permissions in ECP not for user but for group(distribution or security)? COnsole only shows me users, doesnt matter if its mail enabled or not. Thank you.

    Hi,
If we create an universal security group in AD, and at the same time, another universal sercurity group is created via EAC. We will find that the group created in AD doesn't show in EAC, this group doesn't have an email address when we check it from AD.
After we use the Enable-DistributionGroup cmdlet to enable this group, this security group will display in EAC and we can also grant public folder permissions to this group.

  • T530 2359CTO, Win 7 Pro 64 - explorer folders appear as red "spheres" when minimized to Taskbar

Instead of the yellow file folders icon, when I minimize an Explorer folder window, I get an icon showing three red spheres of differing size.  I think this is the same icon as for Lenovo ThinkVantage tools.
How do I restore the proper icon?
    Thanks.

If you right click on the drive in the Finder, what is the Format of the drive?
Further down under Sharing & Permissions what does it say the Privilege is for (Me)?

  • Help!! Photos have been deleted!! Any temp 'trash' folders hiding anywhere?

Hi. Just attached my iphone to my computer and its deleted all my photos (over 1000!) and my telephone contacts/texts. Is there any way I can get these back? Not so worried about the contacts but am devastated over the photos. Is there a type of temporary 'trash' folder anywhere? The reason i attached the iphone was to save the photos to my hard drive and USB pen. Have tried to restore a back up but has given me nothing. I'd be extremely grateful for any help anyone can give me - even if its to confirm that I can't do anything about it - at least then I can grab a beer to drown my sorrows! Many thanks in anticipation...

Were the pics on you computer and you were sending from computer to phone?
Or on the phone and you were sending from phone to computer?
Windows XP opens camera and scanner wizard when phone is plugged in (default)and saves pictures to my pictures>20100919(date of download)
Look in my pictures and see if you have a folder named the date you plugged in the phone, the pics should be in there.
Windows normally leaves the photos in the phone's camera roll unless you open camera and scanner wizard and check the box to delete photos.
But sometimes stuff happens we don't anticipate.

  • Application publishing issues after temp profile usage

We haven't figured out the solusion to this issue but we do know the cause and a workaround for it that works, kind of...
A brief description would be that after permission issues for some users roaming profile storage on the fileserver application publishing and several applications fail in a different way for different users. This is due to the creation of C:\Users\TEMP,
TEMP.DOMAIN etc folders rather than using C:\Users\Username folders. The issue seems to be that App-V 5 client remembers this temporary folder in a way that we havent figured out yet, all references to the temp folders for each users account UID in the
registry has been removed and the roaming profie was deleted locally and on the fileserver YET app-v remembers the path C:\Users\TEMP and tried to create shortcuts etc there without success --> the packag then failes completely and dissapears from the client/powershell
Get-AppvClientPackage view as if its not even published to the user.
The BIG question is how the "#¤/&¤ can you get the App-V client to forget about the C:\Users\TEMP foders and retun to the users correct folder? We have tried to remove all user accounts UID from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\AppV\MAV\Configuration\Packages
etc and also the users profiles so this data must be stored somewhere else. The issue is local to specific XenApp servers, if the temporary profile wasnt created on a server the issue will never appear there.
The workaround is that all users with the issue have full access to the paths C:\Users\TEMP and C:\Users\TEMP.DOMAIN folders, however when app-v generates shortcuts in that folders we'll need to manually move them to the correct path so that they are
    available to the users, smooth!
The environment is based on 4x Windows 2008 R2 server with citrix XenApp 6.5. App-V 5 SP1 RDS client is installed and configured to use a single publishing server "Add-AppvPublishingServer -Name SERVERNAME -URL
    http://FQDN:8080"
    The details:
(we think) Some users had the follow error since they couldn't access the faulty profile path TEMP or TEMP.DOMAIN:
Failed to create file by callback data: \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AppV\Client\VFS\FE7FE758-FDD8-4208-AF3D-E2505AEF6791\AppData\Adobe\Acrobat\
Another user got only one package (the only package without a shortcut):
This user receives 1 out of 8 packages.
We have tried removing the local and centrally stored roaming profile without any change.

We noticed thet the user DOMAIN\user had a TEMP.DOMAIN profile path due to faulty permissions on the profile store and that this path thoug its fixed was stil configured in the AppV part registry according to below.
Since this key is global to the server and not bound to the user account it wasnt removed with the user profile, we tried removing the specific keys manually where the user account UID occured without any change to the problem. The removed keys werent
    regenerated in the registry though.
The specific user account SID uses TEMP.DOMAIN paths (\Users\TEMP.DOMAIN\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AppV\Client\VFS) for two String Value names "TargetLongName" and "TargetShortNamefolders" in the following key (and others):
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\AppV\MAV\Configuration\Packages\04ADC3E8-E368-4B95-98AF-F53A625070CD_C248B175-B174-41F5-A4D6-62835CF86519\UserConfig\S-1-5-21-XXXXXXXXXX
As mentioned the UID keys "S-1-5-21-XXXXXXXXXX" did not reappear UNTILL we manually created the folder C:\Users\TEMP.DOMAIN with full permissions for the affected user. Once this folder was created App-V recreated the registry keys "S-1-5-21-XXXXXXXXXX"
with the correct \Users\USERNAME\* values however the icons for the applications was distributed to the C:\TEMP.DOMAIN\Desktop folder and since the users desktop is accually in C:\Users\USERNAME\Desktop none of the icons was visible to the user.
Another user had similar issues but with the java plugin for internet explorer failing without error messages, once that user got access to C:\Users\TEMP.DOMAIN the user was again able to run java.

    Cheers,
Ended up putting in some workarounds.

  • Working folder & template questions (Mac and Win)

I'm using Captivate for Mac (both 5.5 and 6). In the recording preferences (Project Info) there is a field for "Working folder" for FMR in Captivate 5.5 or Video Demo in Captivate 6.
For new blank projects, it appears that the Working folder is automatically generated to have a path name:
    /private/var/folders/.....
Question #1: Where is this location on a Mac? (I can't find it.)
Question #2: Is this location different from the "Adobe Captivate Cached Projects" folder in my Documents folder on a Mac?
On a related topic, a client has provided me with a template that currently has this path for the Working folder:
    C:\Users\JaneSmith\AppData\Local\Temp\CP344026233798Session\ForFMR344026233908
Obviously, this path is valid only on Jane Smith's Win PC and is useless for any other Captivate user, whether on Windows or Mac. In fact, when I modify certain default preferences for this template, I get an error message: "The specified working folder could not be created. Please enter a valid location to continue." So I have to change it to a local Mac path.
Question #3: Which location do I use for the Working folder? Do I use the "/private/var/folders/" location (wherever that is). Do I create any old folder? Or do I use the "Adobe Captivate Cached Projects" folder?
Question #4: I need to share this modified template with several Captivate users working on this project (could be using either Mac or Windows). If a template contains a working folder specific to my computer, must every user re-modify the template and re-set the working folder location for his/her specific computer?
Question #5: If I'm not mistaken, temp/working folders for similar software are usually set at the application level, not the project/document level. Is there a good reason why that convention isn't followed in Captivate?

    Hi,

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the English version of those folders will find the correct folders in the localised versions.
    Quick google gives me:

  • What should default permissions be of the Groups folder be?

While trying to sort out our Group shared folders permissions problems I might have changed the permissions of the Group folder (/Volumes/Server/Groups) in Server Admin.
Can anyone tell me what the default permissions for that folder should be?

    I had a similar problem:
    <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5876784#5876784>
and Gerrit came to the rescue! Wonder if you migrated from Tiger and if so then the above thread might have some answers for you. Seems like the standard Group ID (gid) changed from Tiger to Leopard and has wreaked havoc on file sharing. I was able to remedy my situation (so far - still not thoroughly tested) by changing the gid of all files back to 20...which matches "staff" on the clients. This is still confusing and Apple's documentation is half-baked regarding this as far as I'm concerned.

  • Permissions Problem When Sharing

Hello.  I am after some help with an annoying little issue I have with permissions at the moment.
I have setup a shared folder on a Mac I use as a file server.  This folder is called DOCUMENTS and the file permissions have been set as (this has been applied to the folder and everything under it/enclosed items)
    User1 - Read Only
    User2 - Read Only
    User3 - Read & Write
    Myself - Read & Write
    everyone - No Access
Now, as long as I do not anything further in this folder, everything works as it should.
However, if I then drag something to the shared folder from, say, my desktop then only I can do anything with that file.  Everyone else has no access to it until that is I go to Get Info and apply to enclosed items again.
Surely this is not normal that everytime I add a file to a shared folder I have to go in and change the permissions each time?
I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction as to where I might be going wrong.  I have not used Windows for a long time but I am sure with that as soon as a file was dragged into a shared folder the file was updated with that folders permissions or maybe I am wrong.
Any help would be gratefully received.
    Thanks in advance!
    Stefan

    Back up all data.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Select the text on the line below by dragging across it. Don't include the blank space at the end of the line. Only the text should be highlighted.
    sudo chmod -R +a "staff allow list,add_file,search,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,readextattr,writeextattr,readsecurity,file_inherit,directory_inherit"
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V), then press the space bar.
Now switch to the Finder and and select the folder in question. Drag into the Terminal window. More text will be added to what you entered.
Click in the Terminal window to activate it, then press return.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear. You can then quit Terminal.
