One further point, please no offense intended.
I lost access to my blogger account with Google several years ago, automated spam clearing bot of Google just deleted everything. Months passed before I managed to actually get my data restored. My point here is I now simply do not trust the "cloud" with my data. They make no substantive guarantees as to privacy, nor availability on a day to day basis or in the longer term. So I am wed to a local copy as well as a cloud copy. I think they cover different loss scenarios. My local copy might get wet or burned, the cloud might get hacked or the company just loose the data.
Some suggestions I can make that might help long term is create an exception for the Thunderbird profile folders in your anti virus program. They do not need to be scanned every time you move or delete a mail.
Turn off incoming mail scanning. Especially if your are using Nortons. Most Thunderbird users are using SSL or TLS. Most ISP's and free mail providers now require it. Nortons does not scan email over encrypted connections. So the functionality can only have a downside.

Quota arrangement - winning contract is not auto assign in SC

My Problem: Winning contract is not auto assign to Shopping cart
I created a Quota Arrangement (QA). It contains 2
contracts, for example in line item 1, contain Contract with Supplier
'A', with target percentage of 60%. In line item 2, contain Contract with
Supplier 'B', with target percentage of 40%. I did not specify any quotabase quantity.
For your info, the contract for Supplier 'A" is a Purchasing Contract,
with target value of 80 (currency Malaysian Ringgit). Contract for
Supplier 'B' has target value of 20 (currency Malaysian Ringgit). When Icreate a Shopping Cart, with quantity 5 (each-EA) and price per unit is
2
(Malaysian Ringgit), total is MYR10. When I go to Source of Supply tab,
the system showed 2 suppliers from the 2 contracts. It did not
automatically assigned to the winning contract. We still have to choose
which contract to be assigned. I created another SC after that until theContract exceeded quantity, but the system does not proposed winning
contract automatically. Please help.

You're not very clear in stating your problem. Maybe it's terminology: "takes" in recording lingo (and in GB lingo) are different version of exactly the same part in a song, so you only want one of them in the end. Please tell us exactly what you did and what it is that you don't like.

How do I use a stylus to take notes in PDFs?

Hey everyone,
I recieved a Samsung Windows 8 tablet (includes a stylus pen) and I'm trying to use it for notes. Many of my professors post notes online that you then take to class and then fill in the blanks with example equations or details. These are all posted as PDFs. I downloaded Adobe Reader yesterday and I could very easily take notes in the PDF file and then save it. I went to do the same today and it would not accept any kind of pen input. How do I enable this?

Try to see see if the latest pdfs have commenting enabled. Look at their document properties (control-D).

Can you use iPad Pages to take notes in class?

I was wondering if iPad Pages could be used to mix typing and handwritten notes? So here is what I want, to be able to take notes in class by typing, and when the teacher starts drawing a graph/table/picture on the board, I can switch over to note mode and use a stylus or my finger to make the drawing and then switch back to typing mode. All this in the same document of course.
Can iPad Pages do it?

If your using outlines for notes, which I would argue most people don't. (I work in a large corporation and don't see almost anyone doing this) there are other companies that make outlined notes programs that are excellent I think the omnigroup does, and I hear they are porting many of their apps to iPad.. Write ot them and see if they are releasing theirs for ioad.
Apple does have an interest in letting others make money off the applications from third parties. It wouldn't be a very good platform for developers if the out of the box did everything.
The way outlining works is the arrows in the information button when selecting an item that can be outlined. So it's one more tap on the screen to advance it.

It seems like we were doing these same types of things with Palm Pilots years ago, one would think this would work with iPads?

I don't believe it will open a Word document, but Writepad allows for handwritten conversion of notes to text and then to email. Might help you some of the way...

I'm using the note taking view of Word 2011 for Mac so I can record a meeting as well as take notes. The audio of the internal microphone is so low - can I attach an external mic and have it work with note taking view?

Can I attach an external mic to my Macbook Air to enhance sound input for the note taking view of Word 2011 for Mac? I've tried preferences to up the volume of my sound, but I still cannot hear the recording. Any suggestions? I need to record a meeting as well as take notes so I'd like to use this tool, but the audio is not good enough.

A USB microphone can work with the Air, and I've used them before with my 11" Air. Griffin also made a product (the iMic) that will add a standard computer microphone port, connecting to your USB port. It's heyday was the time of the old iBook laptops (which also lacked a microphone in jack) but I think it's still around.
The single sound port on the 2011 models, as I recall, supports iPhone style headphone/microphone but I don't believe it will support a standard microphone input.
The built in microphone sits on the left side of the computer and I suspect wouldn't work well for picking up a lecture unless you were sitting just right in position vs. the speaker (preferably having the speaker positioned to the left and sitting really close). By design most laptop microphones presume they are going to be mainly used to record a sound coming from the person sitting at the keyboard, while for a lecture you normally would prefer it concentrate on sound coming from behind the screen.

I do not think there is an app for that..... Yet. Part of the difficulty is the 'sandbox' nature of apps. One app cannot open another app. ( with a few controlled exceptions)

Possible to take notes direct in the pdf (with pen)

i use this program in my work, as i am building a electrial cabinets
but i miss the function of taking notes directly in the pdf, and being able to "check" (make a mark) with my touch pen where i am and what i have done.
but this program is not able to take notes like that it seems?
i use adobe reader in an android tablet also, and the funktions in that program are excellent. i want those funktions in my windows tablet
is it possible?

Assuming that you are running Windows 8/8.1/RT/RT 8.1, Microsoft Reader is already preinstalled on your system.
Here's how to find Microsoft Reader and launch it.
1. Open the Search Charm.
Touch: Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and tap the Search button.
Mouse: Point to the upper-right or the lower-right corner of the screen and click the Search button.
Keyboard: Press the Windows key + S.
2. Enter "Reader".
3. Select Reader (with the white logo on the orange background).

The only apps I have installed since purchasing are Mac Keeper and the most recent version of Caffeine.
Also, wine is running by itself, and it is there going when I first turn the computer on. I can shut it down through activity monitor, though.
When I look at the process heirarchically, though, it shows up.
The process heirarchy looks like this: launchd -> AntiVirus -> wine and nothing is running under wine.

Camera shows up in MAX on Win 7, but not on Win XP (x-post machine vision)

I'm using a Point Grey Blackfly USB3 camera for an application. I wrote an application on Windows 7, and deployed the executable to Windows XP.
On Windows 7 I can use the point grey frame grabber, or view the camera in MAX or my LabVIEW application without changing drivers.
On Windows XP I can use the point grey frame grabber. I installed MAX as well as my application with the IMAQdx 14.5 runtime and Vision Acquisition software, but cannot see the camera in MAX. The camera originally showed up in Device Manager as a Point Grey USB3 camera, but I can change the driver to NI-IMAQdx USB3 Vision Device, and it still does not show up in MAX.
Please let me know if you have any experience or ideas on the issue. Thank you

The camera is now talking to MAX!
Before I had just deployed the application and it installed the IMAQdx runtime, and the camera did not work. After popping in the Vision Acquisition CD I ran a full installation, and the camera is now working!
In LabVIEW 2013 deploying a vision application would include the IMAQdx drivers, but now in LabVIEW 2014 it deploys the IMAQdx "runtime". I am not sure what the difference is, but I never had a problem deploying applications written in 2013. I think this is the second time I tried to deploy an application in 2014 and both times resulted in complications. Last time it completely wiped out compatibility with older applications. Please take note!
